0:00I'm Ben Thomas for the NAP News Minute. As Iran retaliates to Israeli strikes by launching its own missiles, many of them are being intercepted. Nonetheless, Julia Frankel reports they are doing damage. I'm here in the old city of Jerusalem where an Iranian missile attack has left damaged a part of a pathway leading down to some of the holiest sites for Muslims and Jews. The missile wasn't intercepted, Israel's military said, but that left fragments in the air that fell down, blasting open a gate and collapsing a wall on this pathway down to the western wall, which is the holiest site in the world where Jews can pray. Now the western wall is next to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. That's the third holiest site in Islam, and the Esplanade it's on is referred to as the Temple Mount by the Jews, and that's considered the holiest site in Judaism. The old city traditionally was considered somewhat untouchable because of the presence of these historical and holy sites, but in the last week we've seen shrapnel from missile interceptions fall.
