Meanwhile, Karen Chama's reports Africa's solar energy boom has come with a toxic side effect. Africa's transition to cleaner energy is adding to concerns over lead poisoning from batteries used to store solar power. The problem stems from unsafe battery recycling, much of it handled informally, with an adequate regulation and weak enforcement 12 years after a toxic battery recycling plant shut down in Kenya's coastal city of Mambasa, Benjoum Simbler, familiar by village, told the AP, residents are still living with the scars of lead poisoning.
