0:00I'm Ben Thomas with an AP News Minute. The Supreme Court heard arguments Monday in a case about voting by mail-in ballots. Mark Sherman was there. The Court's conservative majority sounded open to ruling out laws in 14 states in the District of Columbia that allow ballots that arrive after election day to be counted. The outcome of the case for Mississippi could affect voting in the 2026 elections. If the Court says these relaxed ballot deadlines are no good, states will have to scramble to change their policies and laws regarding late arriving ballots. In addition, another 15 states allow ballots from military and overseas voters to be counted if they arrive later than election day. It's unclear how this case would affect those states. And potentially early voting and absentee voting in general could be called into question by the Court's ruling. That's the AP's Mark Sherman and I'm Ben Thomas.
