ALERT: Florida Thinks It Can Handle Auburn. Really?! | Auburn Podcast

About this episode

Auburn football versus Florida is finally here, and one of the biggest questions heading into this SEC matchup is whether the Gators are underestimating what Byrum Brown can do through the air. Florida may be able to slow Auburn's traditional running game. The Tigers still have questions along the offensive line, and Florida's defensive front will have an opportunity to make Auburn work for every yard. But if the Gators commit themselves to stopping Brown's legs, Auburn may have another answer. Let Byrum Brown throw it. Brown has shown the ability to be accurate with the football, and Auburn has enough weapons on the outside to create explosive plays. If Brown can hit those chunk plays and Auburn converts its opportunities in the red zone, the Tigers could force Florida to completely change how it approaches this matchup. That's what makes Brown such an interesting red zone weapon. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Powered by the wonderful. All aboard the AM departure from platform 334, the Auburn Express. We're running on time and expecting no hiccups. Doing the work, hard work to bring you the best Auburn sports content you'll find anywhere. So you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, with our, you know, our red-headed smurfing on it. Oh my gosh. This is a real thing. Our red-headed smurfed football coach. So, you know, it's gonna be, it's gonna be fun. I'm so happy that this game is back on the schedule, Ali, you know, King and I have a million, like, Florida Auburn stores. Obviously, you know, you had a husband played in the game, you know, and it was, it was more prominent when we were in school in the early 2000s.

But now to have this game back, I think, means something to the history of what the SEC really is. Yes. I agree. I, you know, I love, I don't love going to nine games in conference play. I just think it makes it that much tougher compared to everybody else. I think the SEC's the superior conference. But I love the idea that we get rivalries like this back. We're gonna play two of every four years. And I think that's, that is a huge win. Hmm. I didn't, I meant to ask you this earlier, King. What do you think about the nine game SEC schedule? Is that like, is that, is it as brutal as it seems in our minds? It's not as bad. I think it's fine. I just, my issue, I don't like that they did away with divisions. Like. The division games, you know, being on the same side, like that was to me, like, like, like I said, like it's certain teams, you know, you play every year. Yeah. So you go to the mindset they're already marching to calendar. So I think that's my, the big thing, I don't like, but as far as the nine games, no, the more, I mean,

to me, the more SEC games are better, the better competition I could play, you know, the more the mayor. So I don't think going nine is, is a problem. I just wish they would go back to the East and the West. It made the strength of schedules for every team in the conference, look ridiculous. Ridiculous. Adding a ninth game means nobody in the conference had a strength of schedule rated above 20. Georgia has the easiest schedules, the 20th hardest schedule in the country. What? Every team has 20 or harder. Yeah. Arkansas has the number one schedule in the country on the year. It's crazy. Yeah. I mean, I don't know. Auburn is got the 12th hardest schedule in the conference. It's the 13th hardest schedule in the country. That puts it in perspective for you. So it's, it's, it's, it is a grind, I think, and adding that extra game. Are your ad campaigns lighting up the dashboard, but not the pipeline? That's bullspend and marketers are calling it out in dashboard confessions.

My boss asked for results, so I open my dashboard for the only positive sounding metric I had impressions. Cut the bullspend. See revenue? Not just reach. What I do love for is I love it for the communities, because you get the extra game that means something in those communities where those games happen.

So I think that's a good thing, maybe, especially in a place like Auburn, where those businesses thrive during football season. They need football season. And then you say, it's the money, it's you're making more, you don't actually see games going anymore money coming in too. So it's, you know how that goes. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. And then you got a guaranteed non-conference P14 that you have to schedule, which means you're at best getting two cupcakes a year for us. It's Southern Missing in with Sanford in November. Yeah. Florida took bears up front, which, yeah, I don't get it out the way. I don't know if I love that though. I don't know if I love not having a break somewhere later in the schedule. We scheduled that two years ago. We were supposed to play NC State in a home at home. And then it got canceled when the conference went to nine games. And so that was like a scramble to fill in there. It's going to be a little more fun. All right. I'm going to give the folks in the chat. In case you don't know, we are giving away two tickets

to this game. Hashtag beat Florida in the chat. I'm going to give you all another 60 seconds to enter that drawing before we pull. And I have currently 37 people entered for the drawing here. So we'll see who's going to be able to walk away with those tickets. Make sure you get your stuff in here in the chat. Allie, before we get over to that, I got to put you on the spot here. I don't know if you've done it over on your show yet. Oh, yes. I want to hear a score prediction from you for this game. You all aren't going to love my score prediction. I mean, I'm expecting you to want to have Florida win. But how far is it going to be? Before you give your prediction, I'm plugging this sponsor. We're trading on the Florida game straight up. We're taking Oliver and Colchee as giving us a 48% chance, which has since dropped to 44%. I think it came back up recently. But Colchee saying that Florida has a slight edge in this one

head on over to Colchee.com. Fort slash R, Fort slash report to get your trade in. You'll see this little graphic out to the right when you get that going. All right, Allie, let's hear it. I have Florida 31 17. 31 17. 34 17. Wow. I do. You know, that's a Homer school. Yeah, you don't know this, but we used to have a sponsor, the Rokeshop and they sell these psychedelics. That, you know, they'll make you say things like that. Well, 31 17. That's a bit like this Auburn defense has not under DJ Dirkian given up more than 30 points, I think, but like two or three times in three years. It feels closer than like during the game than the score says. I just think Florida has some kind of special team, something or other that makes it look bigger enough bigger than that it actually is on the road at that. Flowing ad bunched on metrics that look great

We finally excise the demons that live on the planes.

Okay, let's play a different game. If Florida doesn't win this game, what's the reason they don't win this game? If Florida doesn't win this game, they let Byron Brown run all over them. And that is probably due to Florida's defensive front seven, not living up to the hype. You know, Ali, I have a little bit of a different perspective on this because after seeing this offensive line play, I think that teams, after two games, I think teams may be a little more successful at stopping Almond from just running the ball in general. If Almond wins, I think it's going to be because Byron Brown is a lot better passenger than most people. Yeah. I think he's, I think he's going to be accurate. He could be very accurate with the football and then the big plays down the field, right? Can you hit your chunk plays to get into scoring range and take advantage of those reds as his own opportunities? For the last five losing seasons, Auburn has been a piss poor red zone team. Yeah, get into the red zone, blow it.

Get into the red zone, blow it. Most losing teams are chitting the red zone. Yeah, we're just not in the red zone at all, right? Because we can't move the ball. Yeah, so but they have gotten into the red zone and just not been able to run successful plays in the red zone. Yeah. Goal is sold to us that Byron Brown was the ultimate red zone mismatch. Yeah. They felt like they weren't going to lose. Yeah, with his legs. I don't know that we've seen it. Yeah. Yeah. So the red zone trips that Auburn has had so far, they've been successful and some of that, I mean, the game went in drive there. Yeah. Byron Brown was the one punching that in versus Baylor there in the red zone and it was just straight up QB power on the left side with a lead block from your running back like great block by Jeremiah Cull. Yeah, I think that they've got a lot of opportunities to be able to be a really good red zone team because of the personnel that they have in the tall right wide receivers. And then again, you've got the legs of Byron Brown, especially

in the high red zone when you're there, you know, really just like right just outside of it 25 and in more so it's like that's when it's super dangerous because you still have a little bit of a vertical stretch that you can give to the defense and those linebackers have to cover a lot of space, sideline to sideline. If you can get them flowing one way and he's going the other way, it's a long way to try to make that up. King, give us a score prediction. Hopefully a lot to a little. No, I'm going to keep it pretty low. I'm going to say we get it 23 to 20, man, we get a field go to win a close game. I don't see that side with, you know, I don't see you putting a lot of points to be high, too high scoring in the game, but I got 23 to 20. We win by a field go. However, it happens when it happens, but it's going to be, I think it's going to be a pretty close scoring game. I think we're going to pull it out. I'm going 27, 24 Auburn. I think we're sweating in the fourth quarter holding on for your life, but I could see an Alex McPherson game winner in this

one. So yeah, I'm going 27, 24 on this one. I don't even remember what I forgot what score I gave on your show, Ali. Trying to think to feel like you might have done 23, 20, but I need to go back and watch. It's going to be a close game. I think they're going to hit each other in the mouth. I think it's going to be a lot of back and forth. You might see a couple turnovers on both sides. It may come down to which quarterback operates. They're often the most efficiently, which is the question I have for you, Ali. What's a confidence level at quarterback right now? I think it's pretty high right now, but again, real small body of work. So I think we're impressed with what we've had. I think maybe more impressed than people expected to be with Aaron Final, particularly because this quarterback battle went on the entire summer. But I kind of, I mean, maybe I will have a different answer on Sunday, but I kind of feel like they brought him in thinking he was going to be the guy. I think they were pleasantly surprised with what they found at Florida in

Tremel Jones. And they really did kind of let these guys battle it out. But I do think Fylo's ability to be calm is kind of the deciding factor in that he has full control of the offense. He's got a better grasp of the playbook and hope so, you know, he's spent the last two years with Buster Faulkner. But I think Florida fans are pleasantly surprised with what they've seen so far. All right. All right. Let's get to this drawing. Somebody's going to win two tickets here, Auburn versus Florida. We have 55 people who are now entered into the drawing. Luck of the draw. You still got to be here. So if you threw your hashtag in there and you walked away, so sorry for you. But somebody's got to win them. Who is it going to be? Tonight's those tickets go to Aaron Patsky, 8-8-10. Aaron, if you are still here, say what's up to us in the chat. We can make sure that you are able to get your tickets. We appreciate you for being in here with us tonight.

All right. I didn't see any more. I think I have like, well, just a new member joined us. I didn't see any more super chats in here for anything for anybody. I'm going to keep an eye out for Aaron and see if we can get him these tickets tonight. Man, if I'm not going to hold you, Ali, if they score 31 points in this game, I'm going to be very angry. I'm going to be very angry. You want me to ask me on Saturday night. We'll talk about it. I'm going to throw some stuff. I think you've got 31 points at home. I'm really going to break some stuff. Where's Aaron? He should have worked. Yeah. I didn't think he can grass to him, but I didn't see him in the, him say anything yet. So I'm going to keep my keeping eye out here for it. We do a watch along sometimes with our, subscribe with our, Aaron business at the war report. Aaron, email is business at the war for, and we'll get you those, uh, we'll get you those tickets. Shout out to a, a, a, raw. Yes. Indeed.

Aaron, yeah. Make sure you send us that email. Ali, we need to get you out of here. um, but in case people now, listen, you know, we don't need to get you out of here, um, people now listen, you've given your score prediction. I know. You have officially open the floodgates for the hordes to come. You're fine. It's wonderful to me so far. I have talked no smack on social media. I will have you know this game is terrifying because it's so unknown. But you can follow me on exit. Allie underscore peak or over on YouTube. You can check out a peak inside boarder, Gator football. That's what's up. Allie, thank you so much for joining us tonight. We will definitely be talking again soon. Absolutely. One way or another, somebody got to eat some crow. So we're going to see what's up on it. All right. I'll talk to you guys soon. Thanks for having me. Next out. All right. That was Allie peak 30. You know what it said, 31 17. What? Yeah. She said it with her whole chest too. Oh my. She did. Yeah. I'm going to do some more research on DJ Durkin DJ. If you watching this. I think that that's there. That's the confidence that they have right now in the offense. They were floored.

How do you do that? That's the way they are. They have some dynamic playmakers no doubt about it. Like I put the tape on it. I'm like, these guys are you put the ball in their hands and Buster fogger really good offensive coordinator able to scheme them into space. So they have some guys, and then they have the game one of the best running backs in the country. But is guys on the other side of that line, I got going have something to say about it. That's what I'm saying. That's my, I just don't know that that defense is giving up that many points in this. in this. They'll be in it, right? But 24 points seems to be about where the buck stops with a DJ Durkin defense. And if it's going to be a lot of field goals. Yeah. If it's going to be a higher scoring game than that, both teams are going to score. That would be my point. And I said, I don't know if they're giving up 31 points. If they do, then that means that Auburn's probably scoring a score. That's the high scoring game. Yeah. But 31 17. I don't know, Ellie. Yeah. I find it hard to believe that Florida's going to limit Auburn to just 17 while scoring

31 themselves. Now they have gone up against two teams that run tempo offence. I just don't think that they've seen the athletes in that tempo offense in the same way that they're going to see this weekend. So it's going to be interesting because I honestly have questions about both of these teams' ability to stop the pass. Florida's going to try to air it out. But my biggest question mark is, all right. If Florida's not going to be good against the pass, which they've been having against the pass so far this season, can they stop the run too?
