Alaska Special Olympics Winter Games: Joy & Camaraderie

Hunters of athletes from across Alaska gathered in Anchorage this weekend for the Special Olympics Alaska Winter Games. Four delegations from Anchorage, the Madanuska, Susitna Valley, Tanana Valley, and Kodiak took part in Florehockey, snow-shoeing, Alpine skiing, and snowboarding at sites around the city. The events brought together competitors of all ages for a mix of indoor and outdoor action, highlighting skills built over the season. Special Olympics Alaska Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Emily Timmick described the atmosphere as full of joy, competitive spirit, and strong commodity that sparks lasting friendships. Hunters of volunteers stepped up as coaches, chaperones, and support staff, working all season to prepare the athletes and ensure everything ran smoothly. The games wrapped up with a closing ceremony on Sunday, and athletes are already looking ahead to the summer games set for June.
