1:02Well listeners, it's the weekend again. That's right. The end of another work week. It's Friday, September 11th, 2026. Thanks for tuning into the nation station, Amsoia Fassler. The Dorks and Geico silence fire and rescue service, TCI FRS, has all the rise construction activities to resume at the end as hotel and condominium project following the successful completion of a fire safety simulation exercise and the implementation of enhanced safety measures. The decision follows close collaboration. Among the TCI FRS, the project's leadership and management team, contractors and safety personnel, together they developed and implemented an approved construction fire safety and prevention program method statement and corrective action plan designed to strengthen emergency preparedness and fire protection throughout the construction

2:02site. The program is intended to serve as a model for future developments as the Torks and Geico silence continue to meet the growing needs. Following several meetings including the fire investigation, the teams conducted a tabletop exercise, site visits and unannounced fire simulation exercises. The TCI Fire and Rescue Service communicated the necessary improvements to the project team and conducted follow-up exercises to ensure compliance and improved readiness. During these follow-up exercises, project personnel carried out their assigned emergency rules effectively. The required fire protection systems were operational and TCI Fire and Rescue Service crews successfully managed a simulated fire on the 4th floor of the hotel development and the 3rd floor of the condominium building. The exercises demonstrated improved coordination, greater awareness of emergency responsibilities and the capability of fire rescue resulting in a

3:04satisfactory outcome. The Torks and Geico silence fire and rescue service will continue to conduct follow-up inspections and exercises to verify compliance and to support a strong culture, a fire prevention and emergency preparedness at all occupancies across the islands. The Fire Service leadership team remains committed to working collaboratively with developers, contractors and other stakeholders to promote safe construction practices and protect lives and property throughout the Torks and Geico silence. Now as cruise tourism continues to grow in the nation's capital Grand Turk, so do concerns about the increasing number of golf cards on the islands roadways. From traffic congestion to safety concerns, residents are calling for action. Ardena Denney spoke with Minister of Tourism, Honorable Shavargo Jalit, take a listen. As Grand Turk continues to welcome thousands of cruise visitors, the island is facing growing concerns over the number of golf carts on its roads. Residents and motorists have raised

4:05concerns about traffic congestion, golf carts being driven on the wrong side of the road and children operating the vehicles. With plans to further expand cruise tourism to Grand Turk, Radio Turks and Keke spoke with Minister of Tourism Honorable Shavargo Jalit about how the government plans to manage a growing number of golf carts while ensuring the island remains safe and welcoming for both residents and visitors. So I'm always a believer of not forcing, not say forcing, but having community engagement before you launch or even if the government has made a decision to launch something for the best interest of the people, is always having community engagement because ultimately they're the ones that are going to have the impact. We would have just recently had a community connect meeting here in Grand Turk. I wanted to say just early parts of the summer and one of the biggest discussions was the the I want to say soon to come because they don't have a established timeline but the incoming second cruise light here at Grand Turk and that was one of the major concerns in terms of congestion. The second concern was ensuring

5:09that locals, the same concern you would have brought up earlier which exists in the entire Texas and K-Tas, in many other tourism destinations. Making sure that locals are ultimately the beneficiaries of this business product. He also spoke to the enforcement issues with the golf carts. One of the things that we've already begun doing is working with the Department of Motor Vehicles in terms of, I think, the compliance because discussions have begun in terms of quotas and kind of ensuring that the industry is properly managed because what we've come to realize is with growth the regulatory body, the enforcement bodies have to grow as well. So Grand Turk saw this overwhelming growth in that particular industry but we didn't bring over or even hire more enforcement officers in Grand Turk. We didn't improve on application process in Grand Turk and where you leave those gaps, people are going to take advantage of it. So it's not even to say that most of these persons that are vendors or even legitimate or licensed. So that's a big part of it. So the

6:17DMV has been working very close with them. In fact, we have a few things that are coming very soon in terms of enforcement. But we want to start implementing these things now. We don't want to wait till this second cruise company gets here and the number is dull and then all of a sudden you want to see that type of enforcement. So there's a few enforcement measures that are going to be coming very, very soon and not just in the form of legislation but in the forms of infrastructure. So there are going to be a few things different in terms of how we interact from a commercial perspective with our cruise visitors now, especially near the cruise terminal. With these prospective enforcement measures on the way, the residents of Grand Turk can now hope that the changes will bring the action they have been calling for. Thank you so much, Denei. The Turk's and Geko's Islands will be celebrating National Youth Week 2026 from September 20th through the 25th. And as activities continue throughout the week, the focus is not only on celebrating youth, but also creating opportunities for young people to have their voices heard and play a meaningful role in their communities. On a recent episode of First Edition with Sheryl Anne Forman, Senior Program Manager for the Department of Youth Affairs, Brianna Wolcott explained more. Ambassador Wolcott, National Youth Day is approaching. Before we get into individual events, what is the department planning for young people this year? To basically describe a lot of what we have planning is meaningful youth engagement. Really trying to get a young person to actively participate in the activities that we have for them. You're going to see volunteerism coming out, skill building, career advancement,

9:28a lot of sports, competitions, really bringing out the talents of our young people throughout the week. I'm glad you said week. My next question is going to be, is it youth day, youth week, or just a season of activities? We're celebrating all of it. So National Youth Week begins on the 20th of September. It's going to start on the Sunday all the way to the Friday. We'll be ending our celebrations on National Youth Day. I know that a lot of persons have marked that holiday on their calendar, but it is definitely one to really celebrate and come and support our youth and really celebrate all of the achievements and all of the talents and hard work of our young people. Youth Week is more than a celebration. It's an opportunity to recognize the contributions. Young people are already making, while encouraging them to become more involved in shaping the future. For young people having spaces where they can express their ideas, develop leadership skills

10:30and connect with their peers can be an important part of building confidence and preparing for the responsibilities ahead. The message is particularly important at a time when young people are being encouraged to take a greater role in their communities. Walt caught went on to explain this year's theme and how it was selected. So the theme for this year was actually submitted by Miss Brittley Evans, a 16-year-old. It is honoring our legacy youth shaping our future. And from that theme, especially with the plans and intentions of the Department of Heath Affairs for this National Youth Week, along with the anniversary since 50 years of ministerial government, this theme was put out in a theme competition to allow all the young people to decide firstly what this National Youth Week would actually look like and then going into understanding what National Youth Week actually means for our young persons. And so with the selection of this theme and what

11:31young people should grasp from it is understanding the rich culture and history of the Turks and Kekas Islands. Really understanding, you know, some of the key elements or key parts of our history that has led us to where we are today. And then when we think about you shaping our future, we think about the role of our young people in shaping what the Turks and Kekas may look like in the next generation and what it is that we're currently doing as active participants of our communities, how we're currently shaping, you know, the landscape, what does Turks and Kekas Islands look and how are we willing to, you know, make the necessary changes as young people. Youth Week can also provide a platform for conversations around education, employment, entrepreneurship, leadership and the challenges facing today's youth. The importance of youth week also lies in ensuring that the ideas and concerns raised by young people continue to receive attention

14:38A total of 184 Haitian nationals were repatriated to Haitian in Haiti following a coordinated immigration enforcement operation in New Providence and in Agua. The Bahamas Immigration Department carried out the operation using a Bahamas air charter flight that moved to Tainese in two separate phases. The first flight phase, the aircraft departed New Providence carrying 29 detainees. It stopped in in Agua to pick up an additional 71 individuals flying a total of 100 detainees directly to K-patient. The second flight phase after the initial drop-off, the plane returned to in Agua to board the remaining 84 Haitian nationals and transported them to K-patient, completing the repatriation exercise. Minister of Immigration, Darren Pickstock, stated that the exercise reflects the government's ongoing mandate to enforce national immigration laws in an organized and accountable manner. And Guyana's tourism industry is continuing its upward trajectory, welcoming more than 271,000

15:43visitors during the first seven months of 2026, as the country pushes toward a year-end target of more than half a million arrivals. Tourism, industry and commerce minister Suzan Rodriguez said the latest numbers reflect sustained growth for destination Guyana, following a strong performance in 2025. July proved to be an especially successful month for the sector, with more than 45,000 visitors entering the country. According to Rodriguez, that marked the highest number of arrivals ever recorded for the month of July. The minister credited the increase in part to Guyana's growing lineup of events, along with continued investment in hotels and other accommodations, infrastructure, workforce training and capacity building. Tourism is also playing an increasingly important role in Guyana's broader economic diversification efforts. As the country's economy expands, the government is working to ensure that tourism growth

An Ipsos poll found that about half of U.S. adults identified the 9-11 attacks when asked without being given a list of choices to name the most important historical events of their lifetimes. The attacks ranked ahead of several major events that followed, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the elections of President Sparako Bama and Donald Trump. The findings illustrate the lasting impact of September 11, even as a growing share of the U.S. population is too young to remember the attacks or was not yet born when they occurred. Among Americans who experienced the events of that day and overwhelming majorities say they remember where they were when they first learned about the attacks. About two-thirds of Americans also say September 11 affected the country a great deal. Despite the lasting significance of

According to the Ipsos poll, only about one in 10 adults plan to mark the anniversary in some way. For younger Americans, September 11 is an event learned about through history lessons rather than personal experience. APU Research Center poll conducted in August found that about six and 10 adults born after the attacks first learned about 9-11 in school or through class assignments.
