1:05youing Award winning songwriter. It's got a brand new album coming out in ten days And we'll ask him how he wrote it. How do you write music? Well, I said Jen, do you want to be a songwriter? I would love to have those skills. Yeah, me too. I don't know. I don't. I have no pitch. If that's what it's even called. Oh, yeah, that's what I'm just a terror like so bad terrible singer and karaoke that I once literally got asked to step off stage. And the guys like I'll buy you a glass of wine. I'm like done. Yeah. In fact, that's that's Jen's whole bit man. Some girls go with something low cut and sit alone at the bar to get some guy to buy him a drink. Jen gets on stage grabs a mic start singing. They're like, please here. Here.

2:10I know it's kind of the opposite of what people set out to do. I go up there and do it badly and get rewarded. I don't believe that. It's true, Jake. It is so true. And people think I over exaggerate it. But I don't. But that gift of songwriting and being able. I mean, what a gift. Right. I mean, you and I, Jennifer, often talked about how you put your story like how do I make a 6,000 word story a 2000. Well, how do I deliver the message in less words? Yeah, less is sometimes more and people who brevity is the soul of weight on and on and on. How do you get a three minute message across? Some songs tell a whole story in three minutes. And some of the masters, you know, one of my favorite songs is Wailing Jennings. Dreaming my dreams without you. Oh, and just like, how do you do that? Do you know that song? No, but I'm listening to it last night. I'm writing it down because Jen is often very. And so usually I write down something goofy. You say I know this will be a first for us. Wait, Wailing.

3:19What's it called? Dreaming my dreams without you. Oh, I think that's what it's called. Maybe it's just dreaming my dreams. Well, we'll find out the internet knows. Okay. I got to check out how this fantastic. Yeah. And so, but you know, I mean, when you're writing a feature straight news story, there's a format you follow it. But when you're doing a feature, you've got to get them in there. You've got to keep them. You've got to just want them to read to the end because that's how we're judged in this business. Yeah. All the similar elements are there. I need, you know, even for a straight news, right? You can't just write, you know, straight news like a robot. I'd like to come get it. Oh, no, I oversimplified it. It's being done right now as we say, you can't just write news like a robot. Yes, you can. It's all over the play. But you know, some, some of it is I want someone to be invested in and stick with this story

4:19and read it. If they read the first paragraph, I want that to cause them to read the second. And on it, you like, that's how you have to build anything and writing. Oh, that's songwriting limitless. Yeah. And just to put it to me, there's so many different elements involved in songwriting. Yeah. Well, you can, I mean, you're a writer. You can do it. Just don't sing the demo. Have somebody else do that. Maybe there. Feel. Um, did you probably heard me say we had, did you help us get Dr. Elizabeth Jagglic? Um, no, but now I want to find her and speak to her. Yeah. I'm continuing this. I mean, there's a couple different threads here that I want to continue following because I believe this is, you know, once I look at a story, one of the reasons I decide to cover it is social value. And I can't, you know, when I saw that two girls were targeted groomed and the men physically showed up in person, I was terrified

5:25by that quite frankly. And so I, I reached out to Terry Markham, who I've interviewed on this topic. She's anti-human trafficking and that, of course, you know, that didn't get to that point here. We don't know what might have happened. But I just said, this is alarming. And, you know, and so she agreed. And I think this is, this doesn't go away. It gets worse. We, we've seen stories in the past where there's some kind of, um, wonky relationship built online through these gaming chat rooms or whatever it is. You can't monitor everything as a parent. I feel for parents like your kid is doing something. But it's so often in the news we hear about the eventual meetup. And she will say it's a she victim is usually compliant to the point where she runs a wet way ever run away. We have an I mean, maybe it's a soft abducks. I don't know how you call. But what we don't hear about is what you

6:29mentioned in what, what happens when it suddenly goes from on screen online to, oh my goodness, he's here outside. Like I wonder how many 14 year old 15 year olds don't think it's coming to that. Like they live in their body, live on their smart screen. And sure enough, there's the dude without a state plates in the driveway. Like, oh my goodness. Yeah. And in this case, this guy had made plans going back to I saw in court documents going back to January. And he actually physically showed up in July. Um, so that, you know, this was something they were discussing. And when you're 15 year old girl, I'm sorry, you do not have the emotional maturity sense, you know, in most cases, yeah, to withstand that. And then, you know, you, you fall into the fantasy life too. You've been groomed. You believe this is a normal relationship. You don't see what everybody else sees that it's darn creepy for a 36 year old man to be pursuing a 15 year old. Yeah. And I think obviously they know what they're doing too. Like,

7:35I don't, um, what, when I talk to, um, Elizabeth later, I'm sure she'll get into the profile of who are these people, but they select victims. They've, oh, they're very good. Yeah. They see the pride, they see the vulnerabilities. And in 15 year old girl, there's a lot. Yeah. In any 15 year old girl, in younger and in speaking to Terry Markham, she said, you know, you're not going to combat against this technology. Parents are going to always be one step behind in terms of trying to shut it down. Yeah. Like the Sundance girl, you know, her, their parents were all over this. And they turned it into police as soon as they figured out what was going on. Not in time, of course, it was under investigation when the guy came and grabbed her. But, um, you know, she said, you really have to teach your kids the skills to protect themselves, to teach them healthy boundaries and to teach them, you know, what's appropriate, what's not from a young age. And Terry said, this age is getting younger. She said that she's looking at these conversations need to start

8:38in elementary school at this point. Wow. And, you know, she said her kids are case, case studies and she hates that for her kids. But at the same time, you know, she's, you know, having conversate, very uncomfortable conversations about sexuality at young ages. And, you know, that's kind of what unfortunately has to happen. Yeah. To have a well-adjusted preteen teen is so difficult in this age. And we're not parents take so we don't even understand at all. And the lot could pretend to understand what parents are up against. But I will say just from somebody outside writing about this, it's, it just seems like these predators have such access to these kids at this point. Yeah. It's so easy to reach them. And it doesn't have to be like a dysfunctional home life or bad absentee parents. Every parent will tell you that you don't,

9:40to be a parent and raise a successful kid, you sometimes, many times have to say no more than you say, yes, while you got some other Yahoo on the interwebs is telling this teen everything they want to hear your parents. And they turn you against the parents. They turn you when you're already questioning like, my mom and dad don't know everything. I know you're already mortified by your parents. I was 18. I was like so embarrassed of everything they did. And then you get somebody out there saying, yeah, you're right to be embarrassed. They're horrible. Not only are they horrible, but they're holding you back. You know, however, however that grooming happens. And then you have a 15 year old or an 18 whose brain isn't developed. And now suddenly they're being treated in a certain way. And for, you know, when the sexuality hits the teenage years, you know how that goes to your insane. Gen cocker story two crook county girls targeted by alleged sex predators in one month could be an indication that maybe the nature of

10:45Wyoming also creates ready made victims. I mean, you know, we're so rural and, you know, often your friend group is probably online because your friend lives five miles down the road. I don't know what, you know, small town nature of Wyoming, there's a feeling, you know, if you're a teenager, you're not seeing the world. So you got to see it through your online. And I don't know. Yeah, that can be. And some towns are better than others and entertaining kids. Like in Gillette, I would say this town has a lot of proteins to do and younger kids to do. And so I think in those cases, two year right, they might be turning to gaming or the web to find entertainment. What I found troubling about this particular, these two girls in this situation, because I asked Sheriff Hodg, I said, these girls friends, because that might make sense, right? You know, you might kind of normalize it among yourselves. If you say, hey, I'm talking to a guy,

11:46hey, I'm talking to a guy, but that wasn't the case. It was two different towns. The girls didn't know each other or they weren't friends. Yeah. So I found that even more troubling. Right. Because if that if there's a randomness to this, if they weren't connected, if just two random in Crock County, just do the math extrapolate that out. That means probably there's more in every county, rock counties, you know, kind of small and sparsely populated. I don't know. It's bad. I wish we had teams listening to this show. I'm not sure it's our demographic, but if we did, maybe not at this hour. Right. They're not up yet. Yeah. Don't. Oh, man. Don't give out stuff. And I know Elizabeth's going to say that. Don't give out your real name, your age, your location, any of that stuff. You know, it's great to meet different people and experience different things

12:47online. It's it's a wonderful invention. The interwebs, but it's got a dark side as well. And you got to protect yourself. Yeah. That's how a lot of it's style. We're not even talking about the, you know, organizations, family, you know, a church, a school, that kind of grooming goes on as well. It's not all online, but that's one way. Yeah. It's definitely not all online. But boy, it's the, it's easy to fall prey to predators. Yeah. Um, Jen coaker's story. Uh, one of the sub heads is this is grooming Terry Markham executive director co founder of Sheridan based anti-humane human trafficking non-profit uprising. And we'll have another expert on in a little bit, uh, I'm the same kind of thing. First thing next hour. Well, Jen, what else are you working on? Anything? I thought I might hit sex torsion next. There was a guy who was recently charged in Douglas. He was

13:51charged federally. And when you read how the sex started, these kids, it's so troubling. So I'm going to look into that. Maybe I'll reach out to your expert. Um, and then I'm also, you know, the Gerald Uden, the barrel search that is far from dead. Yeah. And so I just wrote him a letter in prison. I'm hoping that he might respond to me and I just want to know if he'll tell me are those bodies in there. Um, there's a lot of skepticism that he's still lying. But others believe that they are and they've got the wrong barrel period. Yeah. Well, I hope you and Stacey are able to get something out of them because I, you know, if it were me and I'm in prison after decades of doing something really bad, it's got to be known at him. And you know, look, I'm, I'm going to die here. I'm, um, this is my, this is where I live and die right now behind bars. I could do one thing. Um, yeah. I don't think that's his motivations. I personally don't believe

14:53he cares about whether they're recovered. However, I think he cares about his daughter. Um, and I think she cares about these bodies being recovered. So I think, I mean, I'm not saying he's feeling obviously he, he committed three murders, but we'll see, we'll see. Okay. So working on that, um, and just a couple of other things I've got going, a couple missing people, cold cases, you know, I love those. Yeah. Well, I would, uh, I don't, I don't have the photo hanging and lost it for a moment. But we're trying to get a guest on, um, who was the dude that helped duct tape that, uh, passenger on the flight. Did you see that, Jen? This guy was acting a clown on a flight, saying, saying things and harassing everybody. He's just being a, you know, doofus. And he caused the pilot to have to say, we're going to have to turn

15:53you and you know how people are so bum when you hear they're like, uh, even just the holding pattern. Well, we're in a holding pattern. The whole place like, uh, now you got some guy acting a clown and the pilots that we're going to have to turn around and land where we came from people like, who is it? What's one? And they duct tape them in zip time. And I mean, he's like, that is hilarious. We're going to try to get the dude that duct tape them on. And the reason I even think of this, this is where my mind goes this early in the morning is that's the punishment we should give to, you know, groomers, these online groomers dudes. We're going to duct tape you into a chair and a plane and then just take it off until it runs out of fuel. Oh, man. And those are not anybody who even delays your plane by millisecond. Like even the people are taking their time to put their carry on. We get our patients is tested on anything to do with the flight. Come on you with it. It's not going to fit. I have never acted so irrationally and poorly

16:59as on flights. I'm in barris. Of my behavior. Yes. The flights are like, come on. My internal thoughts and a lack of grace toward people is really embarrassing. People shove it. It brings, it brings out the worst of you. Right. I know what it is. We need to ask here as psychologists. What the heck is happening to us? We get on on flights. Why do we become bad versions of ourselves? I'm horrible. Yeah. We're uh, yeah. That's a good study. Why is the story for you? Seafing right? I'm going to look it to it. Remember we're starting to get away from that but it the beginning it didn't feel right. And especially if you saw it in print you had you almost re-required to say so and so stated on X formerly Twitter and now that even that's dropped pretty now we're to the point where it's okay we get it it's X and we're not calling them tweets anymore they're just statements. Similarly, I see people refer to the Gulf of America as if it's normal you watch a weather forecast now. And they're in Louisiana they'll say yeah blowing it off the ghost. A Gulf of America is hurricane something something hurricane Trump. We're renaming all the hurricanes. And President

24:30Trump's now trying to rename Lake Ontario into Lake Burrica to lesser success Canadians aren't too jazzed about it. That's all in a tear off dispute. If President Trump doesn't like you as a country he's going to erase you is what I'm saying because the latest news out of the Oval Office is President Trump is intent on renaming New Mexico. One of our state think of all the literature think of everything that would have to change if you renamed the state. The gutting you know from the governor on down the governor's office all your stationary would have to change if you're going to rename it what's he going to rename New Mexico to New America all because he doesn't like Mexico. And before the most part I don't

25:30want to put words on the president's mouth. But he didn't like Gulf of Gulf of Mexico on social media President Trump who does not use eggs because I think he got kicked off right. There was there was a time where he was like kicked off a social so he just made his own. But President Trump on social media shared an image of a map of New Mexico with the words Mexico crossed out with a big red X and replace with America America. The White House reshared the image shortly after on its official X account. So it's now official. I mean President Trump does a lot of tweets. I just said you're not supposed to call them that. He does a lot of statements you know two A.M. statements on his own

26:35social media thing. Truth just whatever it's called. And people take note because he's the president of the United States. But those statements are not always followed up by the White House for instance. The one of Trump dressed as the Pope. You know the White House is not going to bump that post. But the official White House X account reshared the image. The President Trump. What is this guy doing to lower the price of diesel again? I just paid 619 a gallon and Trump is just staying up at night. Now we're at all about the price at the pump. He's worried about changing Google maps. Here's the image. This came from Donald Trump. 27:40Trump at real Donald Trump. And I am this is out of the blue for me. Like where did this come from? We haven't we weren't even talking about New Mexico. What about New Mexico is anger the President other than it has the word Mexico in it. You can see I'm showing you if you're following along on the podcast version Santa Fe, New America, Albuquerque, New America. He's just rost out Mexico and put America. I don't know. I don't know if this new idea has legs. We saw regarding the renaming of Lake Ontario. Google played along. Google maps played along right away. Apple is still on the fence. President Trump reached out to Apple and said change your maps software. This is now Lake America. And Map Quest who kind of runs third in the whole mapping

28:45software business industry. Map Quest said, well, you know, Map Quest said no. We're not changing the map. We'll just wait till your out office and change it back maybe. Mr. Trump has no legal authority to rename any state according to this piece in the New York times. Yeah. That is the big news out of Washington while we wait for an end of the Iran conflict, while we wait for inflation to cool down so we can go out and buy something. And while we wait for more affordable and accessible healthcare, President Trump is busy renaming the world and perhaps invading Greenland. I don't know. I don't know, man. I still like an anti-Trumper. I'm not. I really don't care. I mean, he's right up there with anybody else who

29:50sat in that chair. It don't matter who it is in Washington. That's a long way from Wyoming. Other news that I do want to get into later. By the way, the tariff thing with Canada, it's hard to get your arms around what that looks like. The tariff war going on with the US and Canada. Here I like this. I saw a story. I forget where I come from somewhere on the inner webs. The independent. Here's what it'll really mean now with this tariff war. President Trump height tariffs on Canadian imports. Canada responded in kind. So here's what it means. And I met some really nice Canadians last night, by the way. They were at the war. Meet me at the war in Jackson, a whole mess up. There must be something going on. They were all from Alberta. I think

30:50there were from the province of Alberta. And they love it here. They love Wyoming. They were like, Oh, we wish we could find a way to somehow stay here. They loved the United States. They loved Wyoming and talked about how they said, well, they were wishing to become the 51st state. Oh, this small, you know, small sample size. It was like three people. There was a total of a dozen or so Canadians. But they were in unison saying they love the US. They love Wyoming in the West. And they wished that their province could become the 51st state. There's talk of that every now and then it's in the news. I thought that was interesting. But here's what the tariffs will mean. Let's say your kid plays golly on a youth hockey team in Minnesota. Thanks in part to the tariffs. That gold tender helmet that your kid wears and he should wear helmet. Gold 10

31:55exchange or his kids. It used to cost $400 in 2022. And it's it. Hockey's expensive doubt. Fitty kid. That same helmet will now cost $1,000 today. $400 to a thousand. If the kid on the ice breaks is stick, you're looking at a $400. Hockey stick. I'm once joked that this Canada, US tariff war was going to make hockey impossible in the United States. Because I couldn't think of any other thing Canada exports to us other than Shania Twain, Brian Adams and rush. I was on a music thing other than hockey. So the hockey is going to be really expensive now. It was all I can think well, sure enough in Canada. Let's pretend you're a honey producer in say Southern Alberta. And you need wood from the US to build your honey high frames. One farmer, an order of $32,500 in Montana

33:06pine now costs roughly $8,100 more. So lumber imported into Canada now costing them much, much, much more. This this is what the tariff war is doing to Canada other than it also makes folks from Alberta want to become the 51st state. And it also angers anybody who's looking out over Lake Ontario now having to change their idea of what it's named Kyle Ridgeways coming up right after this break. It's like the 100 years old. Yeah. Right. That's how long we've been horse racing. We love horse racing in Wyoming. Man do we love it. Kyle Ridgeway is here and Kyle give us an idea of the rundown as the season is wrapped up in some eye popping numbers millions of dollars, thousands of fans and hundreds of races. How did the season go? The season for both three or seven horse racing in Wyoming down was fantastic this year. Um records in terms of the amount of days that we ran up records in terms of the amount of guests that we had and the persons that we offered this year a really incredible experience for our fans and for uh the equine athletes and our owners, breeders and trainers in Wyoming. Um Evanston particularly man they packed them in a lot of

36:18folks from Utah. Certainly I know many people from Utah. They love to come up, spend a weekend, whatever horse racing. Um Evanston did really well. So where energy downs in Gillette runs it? What the camp flex? That's correct. Yeah. And then Wyoming downs in Evanston. Um we need even more Kyle. How do we we need more places to race? Well I don't know if we need more places to race. I think you know there's only so much season we have in Wyoming where you can run outdoors. This last winter was a really kind of an aberration in terms of thinking you could do something in February or March or even October most of the time. Um you know the weather can get sketchy. But I'll tell you I mean Evanston the economic development for that community that's occurring from that track is awesome. You know you take a look at the parking lot there and you know there's hundreds of cars from Utah there and they're staying in the hotels and they're filling the restaurants. There was a really neat video on TikTok that went viral of a guy who I guess rented a helicopter

37:24and then flew over and took a video of it and it's super great aerial view of the track out there and Evanston. I know you probably do the numbers internally or you find data whatever your COO background but talk a little about what each person means who buys and take it to go to the track there's so much more behind that they had to they had to probably stay overnight somewhere they're going to eat somewhere at a restaurant. I mean every horse racing uh uh customer attendee is is a dollar sign to what degree Kyle? Oh that's a really good question I should have that off the top of my head I just put together a presentation on that the other day. Um I mean I mean what I can tell you is we employ you know so if you think about there's direct labor and then there's indirect labor or indirect jobs that are created so in the time I just filled that I found my statistic okay so uh the the horse racing industry to Wyoming from an

38:29independent study that we had done has a direct contribution to Wyoming's GDP of over a hundred million dollars a year and a direct employment impact of over one thousand jobs. The indirect impact is almost three hundred million dollars to Wyoming's economy indirect impact meaning not the people that are directly employed in the industry but the knock on effects of the other services that are needed the vets the feed lots the hotels the restaurants all the other aspects of it so this is a really really a significant industry the indirect economic impact is is over fifteen hundred jobs in the state of Wyoming that are tied to this industry at this point and those are twenty twenty five numbers so twenty twenty six it's continued to grow obviously. Trickled down rising tide is floating everybody's boat uh hundred and twenty six seasonal workers at Wyoming down the loan and just the the money the job opportunity the whole growth for a

39:29Wyoming plus it's really fun man it's horse racing one of the most exciting two minutes I know we're not Kentucky but Wyoming is getting more and more into the whole horse racing thing. Correct we had several purses that were pushing three hundred thousand dollars this year for a single race yeah uh which is which is significant and you know we spent a lot of money down in Evanston so we spent like six million dollars fixing that facility up for the last few years and it's a really great guest and fan experience there's kind of VIP areas on the both sides and VIP makes it sound like it's really expensive you know it's not that expensive and you can have a table and you've got servers that can bring you food you can hang out there all day we've got TVs all over the place and we bring in the races from all over the rest of the country while you're waiting for the next post um the foods great our staff are wonderful um and so it's it's just a really really nice place to you know it's kind of like go to the rodeo only we feel like we've got a lot more going on at that track with the investments that we've made. Kyle I can be there in about three

40:31hours fifteen minutes if I drive real fast but the season is over a June twenty eight talk about what happened on June twenty-eighth is one of those purses you're you're you mentioned nearly three hundred thousand dollars three oh seven h are open futurity that's a record setting event on that day. Yeah that was huge that was the largest purse um in history of Wyoming two hundred ninety eight thousand dollars single largest purse um in in Wyoming's history now I mean we're doing that every year between us and in Wyoming horse racing I think you know over it's we water downs they may beat that because they get to run seconds so they always get to to one outfit later in the fall but um it's it's a big deal and uh you know we had the the breeders uh award ceremony banquet out at Evanston this year's sets where all the Wyoming horse racing owners and breeders come and they kind of distribute the awards and distribute the uh the the breeders

41:32subsidy basically we had the governor there this year it was over ten million dollars Jake that went to Wyoming based breeders for breeding race horses in the states so if you think about where this industry is going over the next few years with with that kind of money to actually breed horses in Wyoming from zero over a decade ago it's an incredible story. Yeah Wyoming downs three oh seven horse racing Kyle Ridgeway is with us uh Kyle one last thing I mean records heading twenty twenty six but that's over it's time to look forward that's that your job is to look for the next season what's planned for twenty twenty seven bigger better what do you got on the horizon well twenty twenty seven uh you know Evanston's where a really really strong opportunity is to continue to extend that meat uh down there so we ran you know from the middle of May all the way through the first week at the August and um we're gonna you know probably be running even more races the purses are certainly going to grow as you know Jake this is this industry

50:08okay we're back from news break hour two the cowboy state daily show begins with special gas delis the bit jackey clinical psychologist professor of psychology at john j college of criminal justice my brother went there a little bit i want yeah i want to onyonta i think you were in Bingham 10 a little bit so we're yes in the rolling in the same neck of the woods um elisabeth is on to talk about well the launching off point is a story of the cowboy state daily um about two crook county teams both young ladies that were grown um and to the point where you know eventually what you're doing online that creeper shows up without a state license plates and he's in your driveway suddenly it gets very real and it you know before it gets to that point is what we're going to try to address maybe uh

51:13elisabeth co-author the book protecting your child from sexual abuse uh doctor let's first before we do anything let's mention that we're probably going to refer to a lot of uh you know 14 15 year old girls and you know 40 year old men but it doesn't always have to be that scenario there could be uh young boys teams preteen boys whatever but probably we're going to talk a lot about that we'll fall into that stereotype habit i would guess elisabeth first we got to talk about what is grooming you def i hear lots of people take a shot at defining it what is going on when you talk about grooming selection of a victim access and isolating that victim gaining stuff what is it yes so it is the manipulative process that perpetrators use to select vulnerable children as you mentioned they then gain access and isolate them they then do what we call the

52:15trust development and that's like the hallmark part of the grooming process where they use those like strategies like they make the child feel important they make them feel seen they might give them gifts so they they prey on the vulnerabilities of the of the young person then they start desensitizing them to sexual content and touch so they start crossing those boundaries so online they would start asking about you know their sexual experiences using an appropriate language and seeing how the the minor reacts at that point some sort of contact sexual abuse will happen online we see that exchange of images and person that could be contact physical sexual abuse and then afterwards they engage in post abuse maintenance where they kind of gaslight the child and make them culpable like they kind of consented because it's not like that's we have this myth that you know abuse is violent and it's never violent child sexual abuse but the child thinks because they didn't say no that they consented so they feel guilty and that creates the shame and it prevents them from disclosing and it prevents the perpetrator from being detected as well. It's just oh man

53:18and taking advantage of kids that are they're so vulnerable. I mean parents do all they can most parents good parent this doesn't have to be a scenario where the parents are absentee or not good but like they can be very much monitoring everything but you can't watch everything and you know the 15 year old teenage girl she's already pushing back on mom and dad now along come somebody from the outside telling them you know your mom and dad are not so great and it's so easy to open that door. Oh man. Absolutely I mean we all remember back to our teenage days we're trying to figure ourselves out we feel like you know you want to be loved you want to feel special you want to get attention you might be struggling with your parents and so perpetrators know how to pray on that they know how to you know to to access the kids that are feeling that way and they make them feel special and important and as you said they they separate them emotionally and physically from those around them that are protective like they say your parents don't care about you I care about you your friends are not really that great for you you need to be with me and so

54:23that's it creates that separation. It's tough because parents you know to to make a well-adjusted kid you got to be saying no and here comes somebody who's saying yes all the time and they just racks everything you're trying to do as a parent. All right what what is the what have you understood in probably decades of research and doing this who is the perpetrator I think we got a good idea who the victim is is any teen that run line all the time by the way this isn't always online remember I mean it's been going on in in schools there there's inappropriate teacher student relationships churches all kinds of organizations that but online has created a whole new playing field and who are the people doing this are they I Elizabeth are they choosing people they know are most vulnerable would they start up with something with online and say no this isn't the right person I want to try that like do they target. So there's a lot of questions there so sorry

55:28yes they do unlike in person online perpetrators will target multiple kids simultaneously and then they try to cross those boundaries very quickly and they see who responds and if somebody is not it's pushing back and they're they're not interested then they move on to the next child unlike in person where it can take a longer period of time to groom somebody online you know it can happen much more quickly and we saw in our research that they usually introduce sexual topics within the first 30 minutes because they don't want to waste their time if the child is not going to be responsive to the online grooming. The other thing that you should know is recent research found that 80% of kids who are groomed online know the perpetrator offline that means that it's not necessarily the stranger off in Eastern Europe it's somebody you know in their peer community it might be somebody that's like a brother of a friend on Facebook or somebody you know a teacher at school and so what we see is that a lot of the grooming process is taking place both in person and online and so we have to be very very careful because now with the online contact you can use SERP parental guardianship.

56:33Elizabeth what what should if we have any teenagers and I don't know if it's our demographics but maybe parents what should some of the sign what what should we look for early on before we get to the creepy hugs that last too long touching like what what are some red flags early where you know a teenager can say that's not right that's crossing a boundary. Well first of all we shouldn't have our teens communicating with adults online and the minute you know that they they know that it's a stranger you know you and it's an adult you probably shouldn't but the minute that a sexual topic is broached that's a red flag huge red flag disconnect immediately because that's not going in a place that you want it to go and we see that that's happening pretty quickly so I talk about it we did a study with youth that shouted with stranger adult strangers online and we found that of those who that about a third a quarter of them were solicited sexually and those that continued to kind of have those conversations about one third

57:35went on to meet them in person and they thought they were in a consensual relationship with that so they may believe themselves to be in love with this person that this might be their quote-unquote boyfriend but this is not this is harmful it's an appropriate and it's sexual abuse. This is how vulnerable these victims are where so often you hear that they willingly go with the person that's been grooming them online they think this at the next stage of their life it's very it's not often what happened in Wyoming recently were you know two girls were surprised when the person they were talking to online actually came over to their house good reminder of about what to disclose and what not to when you're online Elizabeth your location name may all that stuff right? Yes absolutely you don't want to share that information online and as you said that's not the typical pattern that you know that they don't want the person to come usually it is like they are developing this relationship and often especially with teenagers they believe they're in consensual

58:37relationships it's not it's sexual abuse but at the time they they believe themselves to to be that way and we see that the most perpetrators are men I mean it's about 85 percent men but in about 15 percent of the cases perpetrators of sexual abuse are women and so we have to be mindful that you know those boundary crossing behaviors can can be engaged in by both men and women. Elizabeth let's talk about parents in some of the hard discussions they need to have probably much earlier than they ever would have thought what what should that discussion sound like? So you want to start out as soon as your kids can understand language using correct anatomical body names you don't want it to be shameful you want them to have those open lines of communication with you and talk about things and talk about you know kids these days they they're pretty savvy we've done education with kids as young as grade three four and five about grooming and they can identify it so talking about you know those you know if you feel uncomfortable with somebody if they're crossing those boundaries if they're talking about sexual things find somebody who is safe

59:40and talk to that person and it could be somebody that they trust and that they know we're seeing educator sexual misconduct happening very frequently in our schools in youth serving organizations and so we want to make sure that you know just because it's somebody that you know and you're told that is an trusted adult they still might be doing things that are that are not good or somebody in the home and it could be another youth we're seeing that in 40% of Keith's childhood sexual abuse the perpetrator is another youth including an online sexual abuse so we need to really talk about these things openly and not create shame because it's that shame that keeps kids quiet and prevents them from telling again it's not only online we'll talk about how some of this grooming or inappropriate sexual abuse could take place right in your neighborhood I mean we in the 1970s it was all stranger danger right and then in the suddenly you know Roman Catholic Church we know all the sudden now we found it could be somebody much closer to us than we would have ever thought

1:00:45anyway how what would you suggest parents do as far as building guard rails or doing things to the child's computer or online access I mean there's no I can't imagine you could you know monitor everything the kid is doing they're in chat rooms on video I mean you can try but that's not the point that's a band-aid right yeah absolutely I have teenagers myself and it's a struggle you cannot absolutely monitor what they're doing all the time and that's why I think you have to have these open communications you have to teach them about what to do when they are encounter things because they likely will encounter inappropriate communications online how are they going to handle it you know we obviously you want to put in safety things on their phones like you know if they're sharing images like that's a big red flag but even if your child does share an image then the National Center for Missing and Explained Children have a takedown thing where they you can

1:01:46contact them and they can take down those images if your child has has shared it so but you want to have those conversations and and put protocols in place but the biggest thing is really having these open conversations because we cannot be there 24-7 monitoring what our kids are doing Elizabeth Jekyllic is with us you can learn more I mean just go read the book protecting your child from sexual abuse co-authored by our guest foremost expert on child sexual grooming not always online it could you know it's a it's a scary world everywhere it's not just online but yeah thank thanks for coming out I think one of our writers at Cowboys Day Daily Gen may be reaching out um regarding these stories that are happening in Wyoming where maybe we're seeing more and more online naughtiness uh Elizabeth what could we do to the perpetrator could we duct tape them to their chair on the United Airlines flat I'm trying to think of the punishment that

1:02:47would that's not your area though yeah we're seeing increasingly severe punishments good yeah yeah so um and I think people are taking this very very seriously and a lot of states are now criminalizing um grooming that doesn't that hasn't yet resulted in um contact sexual abuse and so you know really recognizing these red flags of sexual grooming is something that's really important yeah I'm sure so much of you know what we're talking about what you do and study and see results in that end game which is contact but it doesn't have to get there ever is there's there's just verbal there's all kinds of things that involve grooming that are not right and I think kids most of us know in our heart of hearts when somebody has crossed the line with you and you know what doesn't feel right say something yeah um okay thank you so much for being on thank you for having have a great Tuesday thank you you too take care

1:10:12in there because I was way I set up and I'm waiting for the wedding to start and I'm just walking around and I go in this fly shop and it's really nice big it's laid out well there's gizmo flies everywhere and to myself I'm thinking it's not as good as ugly bug and I'm very bendier shop well why did I think that I'm like so uh John I don't know I guard you guys well I really I really appreciate the thinking on it trout hunters awesome shop I think it's it is really funny I was um we so the wedding I was at was in grand junction Colorado oh and um sometimes it's fun to get to travel in fly fish for the purpose of going to other fly shops I think I'm so impartial to a downtown fly shop I I love fly shops in like the historic downtown stretches but I also love those fly shops that are in the middle of absolute nowhere um you know and little more like failing operation you can kind of tell I just think that the coolest way to go

1:11:12fly fishing is to visit visit the fly shops so we were yeah yeah you're doing some shop hopping down in in Colorado as well I mean there's lots to buy you can really burn up a plastic for real fast but a lot of intel to be shared as well everybody in there was I mean the I just while I'm in there like five minutes and the conversation is about that big one where did you fish today well you know everything um so much intel I got orifice right here in Jackson we got trout hunter over there in Idaho we got ugly bug fly shop uh right there in Casper CC joins us CC I saw you were in place that I've been in uh Hell's Half Faker yes yes I was there before they like put up while they had a fence but I I ignored that um I totally snuck down in there and I saw all the remnants of Starship Trooper the moon like they let there's like big

1:12:13bolt anchors and stuff like what a freaky place it's really cool it really does feel like you're on a different planet like obviously it makes a 110% sense that they chose it to be Mars for a movie because it is unreal but yes so by the time I was here they had like the big gate um the half barbed wire on the top of it all all locked up but I I had heard tall tales you know um some some some people I know have said that they've maybe prude down there once or twice um yeah but recently the visit Casper and the Trona County had built a boardwalk so you could at least they took away all the fencing and you can walk out and you know enjoy the view from the top of Hell's Half Faker um and they're about to start offering guided trail walks down at the bottom of Hell's Half Faker so through visit Casper I was able to go um kind of see what it was all about a couple weeks ago and I think it's I think everything in Wyoming kind of ties back to fishing and fishing ties back to everything in Wyoming for me how are you gonna make Hell's Half Faker tie

1:13:18into fishing there's an area drop of water in there what this is true this is true but it is it is right between Casper and Thermopolis which is a really common you know kind of fishing loop and so if you are ever fishing the gray reef and then fishing the big corn or vice versa I do recommend stopping at Hell's Half Faker on the way in between because it is it is quite a beautiful thing but I've never seen anything like it is every time the clouds move down there it looked like a different world it's crazy all the who-dos and what I mean definitely if you're a Hollywood location scabby look at and go this is Mars this is another planet wow um yeah CC brings all things back to trail fishing of course that's just the kind of brain she has all right let's go to trail fishing what's fishing over there so like I said I have been out of town for a couple days oh yeah what I'm being told is um you know the river is still at 500 CFS we are not gonna go any higher than that but we're

1:14:24not gonna go any lower than that so at least you know we can expect those flows to the end of the season we'll see those flows until probably April of next year um we have been lucky with once again some cooler evenings and some more overcast days and a little bit of rain so we still have the closure and effect from lesbian downstream as far as the gray reef is concerned and once again though it is voluntary you know we're treating it as if it's not I think it's always kind of the best general of thumb to just follow it as if it's as if it's bible so we have not done any fishing you know post-noon below lesbian but we're feeling pretty great we're we're feeling we're feeling good I think that as we continue to check the weather and see the precipitation um you know in the in the coming days I think that closure will lift hopefully here within the next few weeks and we'll have those cooler temperatures and and really once things cool down 500 CFS is a great place to be it can offer some cool dry drop fishing um some streamer fishing here and there

1:15:25and and really once it starts to cool down and those weeds clear out I think we're gonna have a pretty phenomenal October November if people are willing to trust us a little bit in fish to soak shoulder season yeah next month is that the kind of fishing where you can really see fish hit the lure I love that when you watch it all happen like yes yes a little bit lower water you kind of feel a little bit more in the mix you can see everything a lot better so ideally you know at low flows and some cleaner water they'll be wanting to come eat off the top so I guess we'll have to come out and fly fish Casper I have to stop bugging you about about carp because the reservoir turned so you're you're smart to stay from carp talk for at least another year wait what do you mean it turned what does that mean when the reservoir at some point when the top gets like way too hot the reservoir flips and um creates a pretty harmful algae bloom you're not supposed to swim in it looks it looks really interesting from the shore it creates very very green water but the algae bloom

1:16:28can be a little bit dicey and and once the reservoir turns in the water um has that bloom it's really hard for us to see carp and and carp to see us so um when that when that flips the carping season is kind of on the tail end at that point so then kind of through the winter time it'll start to level back out that algae dies off we have a phenomenal carp season in July August and then that's some point the reservoir turns again and then and we're back to the waiting game okay so let's make a date for next summer I will I will be grudgingly go carping and I'll have my new boat I'm having a boat made okay in um Minnesota Michigan I'm having a boat made from you but um a stealth craft boat yeah oh it is so cool CC I'm gonna bring it down there reservoir and we go we gonna go carp it Jake that made my day don't don't tell me try so I'll have you by the end of the day I'll be in Buffalo so the the trip will be much shorter for me I'm gonna make it happen

1:23:55bad things he was acting a clown and this the dude sitting next to him along with others on the flight had had enough you know once in a while you get somebody who's you can see they've reached the boiling point usually it involves again the overhead bin and they're trying to stuff something in there and the flight intent is says that's not gonna fit you're gonna have to check that oh my you might as well say you're gonna have to surrender your firstborn to tell somebody you're gonna have to check that oh that's the worst news anybody could ever get and that just makes you double down on the jamming now I'm not checking this little fit and then you done that uh that that altercation escalates to the point where like the whole plane wants to revolt and get that person and duct tape them in their seat which is why I'm so excited about this story and fascinated I'm

1:26:02your uh day good morning now it's a great day it was a early early morning on my way to the airport we're doing Colorado River work for state of Wyoming we're we're trying to figure out what to do with our water and what other people are trying to do with our waters yeah oh that's going to be super important what goes on in Cheyenne what's gonna go on and hopefully get the word all the way up the flagpole to Washington DC but the water fights yeah uh DC's not listening to us when it comes to the beef industry and cattle they're listening to billionaire tycoons from Brazil let's talk about beef uh Senator Driscoll has a beef with the imports beginning there um Senator I didn't even know about this until I heard you uh quote from you in the cowboy state daily and so I not that I would ever think Senator Driscoll would stretch the truth but I did double check

1:27:06sure enough Wall Street draw all the mainstream media has this president Trump meeting with that Brazilian uh meat packer dude sure enough the next day the announcement that seems hanky yeah it's it's really tough and you know that it just keeps unfolding you know the pilgrims pride which is a US company but it's owned by a piece of brothers uh gave five million bucks to Trump's uh ball that he did afterwards and you know they bought access and you know that was my beef is I don't have a problem with imports and exports almost no one gets that is you know the truth is we're we're really overfeeding our cattle now and that produces just mountains of basically towel and that's they grind it with meat from overseas to make good hamburger in the truth is it does make pretty good hamburger the real problem I had was I represent a uh rather large group uh co-op of agricultural producers that was having a sale the day

1:28:11after the announcement came and another one of the major marketers had to sail the very next day after that and those two sails together probably cost 50 million dollars to producers maybe more to and these were my neighbors my friends you know these were off uh what I call and I've got a lot of grief on it online over it knee jerk reaction by Donald Trump he just made a off the hip statement that he was gonna do this uh with no details yet more used to those type announcements they come but this is year two not just this year he did it last year as well and he breaks the market right when we're selling catalyst all these people go to town their entire check imagine this for you and anyone else you get a paycheck for one day a year instead of getting paid monthly you get a check for one day a year and for you get that paycheck for your year somebody comes out and does

1:29:12something that affects your paycheck by 10 or 15 percent it leads to you being pretty angry and that's that's where I got was and then it now he's backtracked it and we're actually getting some action on some things that we've needed to add for a long time but that came because he has knee jerk everybody raised heck trying to the way I did and all of a sudden now we're talking about country of religion labeling we're talking about imports and exports and what they mean and what they don't mean uh we're talking about how inflation affects us all so I you know I think there's going to end up being some reasonable positive out of it packing industry guys like me you know if you followed me at all I've tried for years to try to sell part of our ranch beef into the private markets and you know this system stacked against us on that and so I I'm hopeful some stuff's going to come but I'm also really shocked and heartbroken that you've got that piece of brothers in there messing around and there's another layer to that story turns out that

1:30:17they're one of the major people that are involved in the Venezuelan oil trade with the president as well and so you know this is shades of trust breaking in the old days you know when you had derock fellers the carnigies and all the people that we're doing all the insider trading and I think it's really sad when we don't have transparency in our government we we really don't we're ruling by executive order now instead of Congress and that was my my talk on now was if Congress would have done this it would have took months to do it I get it but we'd all known about it and it been fleshed out in the public instead we get a half baked plan from the president that he has to backtrack on but has real-time impacts on people that that depend on having that market kind of what it was yeah it's not recovered by the way I was still still three to five hundred dollars ahead down from where I sold my cabs app senator agdon driscoe was with us we're talking about that

1:31:19august 20th meeting in the oval office between joesley and wesley betista they're the ones behind jbs the global meat powerhouse the next day president trump makes the announcement about doing away with a 26% import tax on beef from brissel and possibly other south american countries and and and these betistas already like a decade ago we're in trouble for you know graft and and bribes monetary bribes in their own country so you wonder what kind of shadiness is going on in the old bill office and you wonder why the trump administration doesn't if they don't understand the cattle market or the beef industry why don't they ask Wyoming Montana the people who do it thank you yeah I agree fully with what you just said and that was kind of my statement and you know I've been roundly blasted is how can you take on

1:32:21the president be such a traitor you know you're a good Republican and you know the fact is I did vote for trump and I think he's done a lot of great things yeah but anybody that thinks that I'm going to sit on my hands when somebody violates something that is a base principle mine is wrong that matter if it's in the Wyoming legislature or nationally as if Jake makes a statement that I don't like you're probably gonna see me say Jake I think that sucks and I like you generally but I think that sucks and that's kind of the way I do my business senator drisco you mentioned uh the day job and how you saw that announcement effect prices immediately and we know how that's how the market works you know on future days as soon as you get an announcement like that like it was significant cattle were selling for less the next day yeah it was actually two to three hundred dollars ahead I was sitting actually we were in uh ballroom down a little america in Salt Lake City our

1:33:23group had many dozens of thousands of cattle and cheap up for sale and that market literally just opened up and we held our breath and you know the truth is it just flat cost guys out of their pocket the example I used is you know a five hundred cow ranch is kind of average yeah selling your calves you know you lose uh five hundred dollars ahead you lost quarter million dollars you just lost that new tractor or the deal you're gonna do or maybe the ability to buy fertilizer for your fields or fill your decent thanks going into fall and of course in Wyoming the markets aren't near as good as everybody thinks because most of my neighbors and producers are now buying hay and that's gonna take away a huge chunk of their profits in order to keep their cows till next year they're foregoing a big chunk of what would have been their profits on what would be an incredible year if it would have rained away shit over this year normal year we'd all be kind of smiling and be by driving some new outfits and paying some money at the bank and that's just not happening

1:34:27it's going right back into into the markets again I know the forces never work all together to make for that perfect season you know you got cattle selling for record high prices but to get them there it sure cost a lot the freedom with the drought callie uh what it will get it lined up one of these days uh so president trump's uh uh decision the three hundred thousand metric tons of lean beef trimmings coming tariff free for 90 days uh feels I mean it certainly you had the the big JBS uh uh uh meat packing plant from Brazil in president trump's year next day he makes the announcement feels like it's uh designed for midterm elections to make sure in in November people are able to afford hamburger and that'll be four miles down their mind but what about long term senator dress goal if this uh if this is a short term kind of fix a little sugar high for

1:35:32us to go out and be able to grill burgers what about long term because remember these betistas are behind JBS global meat powerhouse there's Tyson there's JBS and there's very little else it's the pinch point of the beef industry is the meat packing and that's still an issue it's a huge issue and it's not just meat packing the really interesting part and that's I applaud trump on it he's gone after the grocery chain style about 70 80 percent of our groceries is controlled by about five firms all the fertilizer market the ag is controlled by three to five firms uh when you really start looking at these markets these big companies have moved in the cargels the con aggers the JBSs and they're making billions and you know basically we're working for them to do it back to your your hamburger grilling I challenge all your people to watch prices and tell me get on my page come after me talk to you and see if anything goes down because I think what you're going to get to see is JBS is taking some

1:36:32incredible losses that's I don't deny it you know they've paid a lot on beef and it's expensive but this move that trump has made what it's really going to do is make it where they move their trim and grind it with lean beef and it's going to increase their profit margins so you're what you're going to see is these packers are going to raise some of their losses but I really don't think it's going to lead to you having a cheaper hamburger to fry on labor day weekend I'm sorry but we wish it would but I don't think it's going to well um JBS by the way one of the four major packers being investigated right now for antitrust concerns uh less in things on a positive note senator dress goal we mentioned there are things at foot a bright future maybe for Wyoming beef to be able to go you know the food freedom act Tyler Lindholm we're seeing there was recently a small medium-sized packing plant in Wyoming family owned so that that

1:37:38dream of going from uh you know ranch to restaurant can all take place in Wyoming I think we can get there Tyler and I partnered years ago and I was co-sponsored on all the food freedom I actually kind of take credit for his refreshment I kind of pushed him to do it Sue Wallace and I had failed at it um it is for real and our beef is the best in the world I will say the inner mountain beef you know the Wyoming's have to go to Montana Utah Idaho that beef is what you eat when you eat a steak in a restaurant it's the best beef in the world and it's absolutely critical we figure out how we capture on that quality because we actually drag along a lot of the less quality beef on our tail and you know we we need to get that extra few bucks out of a steak that's our part of it so I'll continue on that you'll see food freedom stuff you know eggs gonna play a major role in Wyoming going forward hopefully we could use all of us to help leverage into

1:41:46grow a rack like this let me share the photo with you that's an amazing animal is a last scene I think in the bonder ant area mac Watson called it bonderont that's kind of the pinky up version of bonder ant anybody from bondo would just say bonderant bonderont sounds like the influence of Jackson on that poor little community but yeah this that's a good looking mule deer I don't know where hides it sometimes he forgets that he's on a Tuesday he is on a Tuesday right yeah I don't know could be an emergency could maybe he's out deer hunting this mule deer in the Marquein story is if it's this deer gets harvested would probably be a record center um easily surpass state record

1:42:53for the biggest buck ever prominent Wyoming hunter guy Eastman described the buck as a million dollar deer um yeah it is it's something if it's on your property and you allow a hunter to access and get a shot at this deer you can't what guy Eastman is saying is you can charge a million dollars and somebody would want to come and knock on your door and ask if they could get at this mule deer buck uh mule deer in general and I can verify right outside the window like I said I have a mule deer family um they look really good this season and remember mule deer in general statewide were just devastated by that winter of 2022 23 is that right 22 23 which is so all right winter so cold snow so deep and it killed off a lot of ungulates

1:44:01uh elk better able to survive uh that cold deep snow but mule deer man it really and they mule deer are already challenged by other stuff disease and their numbers were down population down but looking much better I mean the mule deer I see and I'm seeing a little bit more and game and fish will tell you there are a little bit more numbers are up the ones I see look fattening sassy they look happy they look good um just uh anecdotal evidence uh is the buck already dead is what mark times also includes in the story we don't know but to qualify is Wyoming's biggest ever the buck would have to meet certain standards by the boon and crocket club the bnc and uh measurements just

1:45:02eyeball in it according to hines and easement it looks like this buck would be easily a record size rack for uh mule deer in Wyoming other uh hunting stuff uh well let's go to thievery two stories of hunters getting ripped off Wyoming outdoorsman baffled by theft of a blind while he was out pronghorn hunting an afton hunter was surprised to return to a spot where he set up a pronghorn blind only to find somebody stolen it uh he said the incident shook him such an egregious violation of a time honored unwritten hunters code of conduct it's also a crime never mind the code of conduct you don't steal things if that doesn't belong to you don't touch it yeah it's got to be kind of freaky if you're the dude you set up your blind

1:46:06your pronghorn blind and then you return to it and it's not there initially you probably think well wait a minute that maybe that's not where I set it up maybe I'm wrong maybe it was in the clearing over here you have to second guess yourself and double that you like mmm and then you come to the realization nope this is where I set it up and it's gone how about that um and then another uh story of fevery hunters as hunters dozed on i80 they took a little nap with a polaris four wheeler in the back and they also had other stuff in the pickup truck as they slapped somebody swiped a suitcase and hand roasted coffee from bullies out of the truck bed but they left expensive hunting gear a chainsaw a camera in a backpack i don't know what kind of thieves

1:47:11these were but they thankfully for the owners they didn't get the best stuff available this happened down in uh Albany County to traveling hunters pulled over to snooze and woke up to find out somebody had grabbed stuff right out of the back of their pickup man oh man um yeah that's uh that's disappointing you don't expect that in Wyoming shouldn't happen in Wyoming finally uh one other markine story of federal judge last week on friday blocked a BLM directive to remove bison from Montana federal grazing a lot since because they're being managed as wildlife not livestock it's a move that a Wyoming bison rancher said as good news across the west this uh issue of bison leaving yellowstone into Montana possibly packing some brussel osu

1:55:38just great and and to hear the number of Wyoming breeders that are now doing well that that's excellent yeah that's really good news um big numbers what what else have you seen in the news i can't find anybody who's seen the dude duct tape to his chair on the plane i want to I saw that i saw that over the weekend and i thought man at some point if he has any rational thought uh that left in his body he is going to be embarrassed the rest of his life and i hope i really truly hope that for the rest of his life every time he goes to an airport if he's allowed in airports anymore someone just at least once a day comes up and says hey aren't you that guy that got duct tape to that seat um uh get TSA agent should just provide him a roll of duct tape here you're going to need this we know about you man yeah i mean just look

1:56:40for the guy that has strips of hair missing from odd parts of his body i actually i thought of that i mean if you do something so egregious that your fellow passengers have thought the duct tape you to your chair um you probably you were not worried about the you know tape rash or whatever when you rip it off at this point but you got a question your life decisions when you find yourself to a chair dude oh man i tell you what that uh every morning and one of my daily affirmations is please lord let me live a day where i am either duct tape to a chair nor do i have to duct tape someone else to a chair right seems like a pretty simple rule to live by i want to get through a day without having to pull the gorilla tape out if you i most of my day at this point 24% of my truck is gorilla tape is duct tape i i have an on both side view mirrors because you know you drive the

2:14:41rod saying that about a democrat he likes you yeah rod and i are pretty good friends we uh we have great conversations about politics together well let's talk about um the run uh for us senate we're getting down to the nitty gritty here uh september october before you know it it's going to be november james bird fifth generation Wyomingite democrat candidate for us senate that puts him in a race against harry at haggamon he brings a decade of direct legislative service uh extensive private sector experience so the campaign he's got a background in energies got a background in it uh also okay what i'm getting uh some of the feedback uh what is that uh uh cell well i'm uh up here uh on i uh 80 at the monument just uh near uh near uh larmy so

2:15:46you might be getting a little bounce off the mountain oh maybe um so uh well let's go to the primary let's talk about the results there the primary you uh one comfortably but i think i heard you say you know the numbers didn't impress you like you thought but now it's down to business but how do you feel the primary went well the primary we worked hard we didn't take anything for granted like uh you know like you should um and it did turn out in our favor i would have liked to see a larger turnout on the democratic side of the ballot that's the uh the part that gives me a little bit of pause but uh we're making up for that this uh this race for the US Senate seat i believe i've heard you say could come down to one simple uh uh campaign platform and if that's

2:16:47the only string on the guitar you wanted a pluck i think you'd do well there and that's public lands while in the house we saw representative harry at haggamon maybe uh showing some support for the selling of public lands you you would have to ask her but boy uh if that's going to be important in the bird campaign i think oh it is one of my uh uh top planks here to run on um you know she uh she went all in with uh that guy from you uh when he decided that that would be a great idea for some reason and uh you know as Wyoming if you look at it top to bottom that is one of the worst things that could actually happen here and one of the worst things we could probably undertake so uh yeah uh it affects everybody ranchers farmers tourist industry there is no upside to it

2:17:47and and you know that's just that's just the beginning of it you know she's uh sponsor that bill on the roadless rule too. 2:19:51a politicking as minority whip minority caucus leader back in uh the state legislative days as a democrat compromise was something that you know you used to be able to do compromises like a dirty word now in congress but would that continue to to be one of your hallmarks so we we have to see some kind of compromise or we're never going to get anything done in congress oh absolutely and and compromises compromises one of those things that you know it's not a dirty word okay uh what i learned in the legislature is you got you bring all the differing opinions to the table and then uh you discuss what you want to do as an end result and it's kind of like making sausage okay you know it gets a little messy probably but the end result should be something good you know i one of the other things i learned in the legislatures when i had an idea and everybody agreed

2:20:53with me it was probably not ready for prime time so you needed to work on those ideas a whole lot at that point so uh you work on you know this is how you hone things to get them to the finer edge so that they do what you would like them to do and you can't do that by siloing yourself off from you and the people who oppose that because uh they'll give you some very good insight as to where the boundaries might be James bird is with us running for us senate uh James a voice of Wyoming in Washington DC has got to be about energy energy energy Wyoming faces a critical point maybe uh where we're looking at some of the legacy of thing legacy industry energy powerhouse Wyoming does that and it has done that but tying all our you know putting all the eggs in that basket fossil fuels uh volatile uh commodity we also have to diversify we also have

2:22:00to expand what what do you want to see in energy well back when i was in the legislature you know it was one of my mantras i worked in the energy business i know the volatility in fact it cost you know cost me my job there for a while so yeah because of the volatility of the industry so we had a beautiful opportunity that we did not take full advantage of when we were just digging coal and pumping oil and gas out of here we still are a prime producer of the nation's energy but not as much as we used to and at that time and i still stand on this we should be taking a substantial portion of that money um from the interest out of the pntf i'm not for diverting any of that money it needs to go in there like it was originally designed but uh some of that money out for the interest of that and starting developing the next generation of energy uh generation and that

2:23:08would be nuclear that would be solar that would be wind geothermal all of those and we run those through our great university down the hill here in Laramie and develop those technologies and here's the catch we develop them we get them to where they are profitable we can license that technology is the state of Wyoming and make more money on the licensing than will ever make getting it out of the ground i like that idea let's uh change subject capital is that hard let's change subjects uh immigration policy in the us where what what do we i mean Wyoming is Wyoming affected by immigration and what do you like where it is today yes no uh work to me we are we are affected by this because everybody who's got an ag operation or everybody who's got a motel or or hotel in the tourist industry hires immigrants to come in there and work because those

2:24:12are low paying jobs that need to be done they're you know they just have to be done by somebody and you really can't get a lot of american people to step up there and do that kind of hard work so we actually do need these immigrants we need a pipeline for legal immigrants to come up here and and do transitional seasonal work and some other jobs that last a little bit longer but we definitely need to figure out how to get them up here legally and keep them here so that they can work we can get the jobs done and they in our economy here in Wyoming doesn't get affected by that now they've just managed to just you know i don't think you can mess this up anywhere on the federal level okay yeah um we've gone to a private police force for the executive and black prisons where we drop people in without the you know any sort of constitutional or legal redress there uh that's not

2:25:16what we do as americans that's not this country um instead of spending 75 billion dollars on a private police force we should take and start putting some of that actually in the immigration court system and the people who actually vet these people at the border you know i think uh at that point it wouldn't be three year wait to get uh in front of an immigration judge just to get your first case heard you know so the system that system is beyond broken it it probably needs to be just tossed out and and started from from scratch again well if immigration is broken uh healthcare is on life support what what needs to be done with healthcare uh the costs are just saying and even access to to healthcare in rural Wyoming is difficult well yeah that's one of my other main things that i look at here you know whamming has always been a

2:26:17healthcare desert we got uh you know small population spread out over a big huge honking state and how do we put a healthcare safety net there it's going to be expensive uh but this whole you the healthcare thing it has to be run by the states it it has to be designed by the state and solutions have to come up at the state level and it shouldn't be we shouldn't be throwing this at the federal level to come up with a plan because when they get up there with this one plan or one size fits all you know it never works and there's all sorts of problems with it they should only be there to backfill where the state has problems doing financial or some sort of physical support for this but we really do need to support our local clinics we need to support our rural hospitals because every one of them is on the verge of going under uh it's just takes two

2:27:18months of bad uh bad accounting and you're gonna see rural hospitals and clinics close all over the place and that's only the the tip of the iceberg there because when those places closed you know the next place to close is the uh diner then the then the grocery store and then six months later you're busing your kids to the next county to go to school because the whole uh you're in this economic desk by road because you're clinic or you're hospital it's closed so the healthcare is really important you know uh we've got to find a way to get more than one the healthcare provider and Wyoming but we have a problem as a as a culture and Wyoming you know i joke about it but it's true uh we're too old we drink too much we eat too much red meat and we're overweight and from you know healthcare standpoint that pushes you into a category that nobody wants to join you in yeah and so we have those problems and those are those are just population problems that we're

2:28:22probably not going to be able to overcome but we got to figure out a way to get us a basic coverage of some healthcare and health insurance in this state because otherwise these people make their first stop the ER and you know as opposed to going to a clinic the uh an ER and a clinic price are night and day you know you're about two thousand bucks uh difference on an ER visit so just from a financial standpoint for these hospitals uh if that two thousand dollar ER visit becomes the uncompensated care where they have to eat that cost you can see where they'll be financially on the bubble of failure again so that's where the state has to come in and actually figure out how to get a safety net here i was up in three month county they're working on coverage for ambulance combined air ambulance and ground ambulance uh system up there uh still in the works uh it's quite an

2:31:39what do you been up to Renee i got to find your stories let's see i'm still up to five foot two uh yeah um oh speaking is skip viewing another uh noteworthy musician Ian Munsick so both these albums i guess coming out skip viewing's new album dragonfly comes out in 10 days Ian Munsick released his fourth album in the first under his own label what does that sound like yeah so you know Ian Munsick has gone independent i think it's kind of an interesting trend to me in the music industry uh more and more people are doing that more and more of these artists are going the independent route and uh you know when i was in north dakota i was covering this uh canifair and these girls named whose band was called tiger lily were singing yeah they weren't known at that

2:32:40time they were just you know a couple girls up on the stage and i mean the sound that they created i was like wow uh you know well they didn't have a traditional path to getting a record deal during the pandemic they released a single that they had done together on spotify and somehow trended to the top of spotify and then trended to the top of like tick tock and that is how they got their record deal and so you know the pathway to bringing music to life in america is changing it's no longer necessarily required to have a big record company backing you to get your music out there the internet has kind of democratized some of that and so we're seeing more and more artists go that route Ian is is trying it you know and his big breakout hit was similar to what tiger lily

2:33:46you know he released a single online and and went on to stream millions of views uh got him a record deal you know he uh found out that uh big these big companies have a lot of writers in their stable they don't necessarily give each individual one a lot of attention and so he's decided to go the independent route he has a record deal now with a smaller outfit that's kind of backing his project so be interesting to see how this plays out you know he already has a huge audience he's got these platforms social media and so forth that he can kind of distribute uh he's got a smaller company that's paying more attention to him and his work it'll be interesting to see how that plays out yeah did you catch his show uh at the cowboy saloon a dance hall and Laramie I did yes I went down there

2:34:48uh really high energy in that room uh people in Wyoming really love Ian uh it was packed there were it like there was a waiting list to get in it was a sold out show yeah yeah Ian Munzick is Wyoming's Garth Brooks who played the grizzly saloon by the way during the border war Wyoming uh Colorado I know people who went to that show to see him and that would be very cool at a smaller venue um yeah way to go in I loved that he's like taking back a little bit of ownership of his career sometimes record labels certainly in the past boy they you're like an endangered indentured servant to them uh to recoup the money they invested in you the whole business model did not favor musicians back on the day so uh good for you Ian Munzick Tiger Lily

2:35:48and all you folks out there making music your own way um Renee have you uh you did a story on this place and I uh the makeover for the snake river lodge and spa you know it was showing age I have DJ there I've done a lot of stuff there and it's it was being outpaced by the hotel terrors and the four seasons all these bigger newer hotels and lost in the dust was poor little snake river lodge but they've had a big make up looks way way different yeah I have mixed feelings about it Jake I stayed at snake river lodge yes you have amen early to Wyoming it was one of the early places I stayed and I really loved it I just loved all the kitschy western uh you know memorabilia that it had the the whole vibe that it had I really liked it yeah I did too uh but you know there's probably the

2:36:50the urge to like you're just pushed to keep pace and to keep you know like it's shiny and new and I don't know what did they do they sunk a lot of money into this I bet they did uh you know and and and I you know I it grew on me as I stayed there but I felt initially my feeling was wow we lost a lot of personality here but they brought in a kind of a new personality they for far away the way they operate they create like a character for each hotel and then the makeovers kind of revolves around this character in their case it's a cowgirl haddie I think her name was haddie Quinn something like that uh in you know so fifth generation Wyoming rancher she's fictional guys but that's kind of the vibe they went for and kind of the narrative that they spun around her for the snake river lodges make

2:37:55over they're also doing the hotel next door oh the out and off and then uh you know the out and the snake river lodge they were two of three of the first hotels in that area so very historic properties uh their feeling is the out and off was more historic than snake river lodge you know snake river it's had a few makeovers and uh maybe wasn't as historic as the out and off they're going to keep more of the out and off the way it is they're looking at it as more of a historic preservation rather than another far away hotel but the two properties are side by side and so they can share amenities there's going to be some sharing of amenities there uh the you know the snake river lodge used to have a wellness uh like citadel yeah cool tower where they had this wellness uh place that is going to transition to out and off the way I understand it and they're

2:39:02going to share so you know guests can walk over to the out and off for their wellness hmm um so the well what was dry I mean what was driving the the makeover and the rebranding the snake river lodges now far away Jackson Holt was it a change in ownership yeah I didn't they didn't say too much about that so I don't know I don't know what happened to the previous owners of snake river lodge if they maybe were just ready to retire and sell out uh that could be far away did tell me they are looking for more properties in America so this westward push isn't going to be their only new hotel you know these guys did Martha's Vineyard far away Martha's Vineyard yeah that was their first hotel and so now they have four hotels in America Jackson far away Jackson is the fourth

2:40:06and they're looking at other properties so this is kind of the birth of a new uh hotel brand yeah and you know they did similar here in downtown Jackson snow king is no longer snow king that's like rebranded trailborn now yeah trailborn I wonder what like in the hotel business what is the value of the of rebrand and you lose a lot of history um but maybe that's the point I'm I'm gonna try I'm trying to stay there at the trailborn and do another story about that so um I might be I'm thinking about going there tomorrow it's my um it's my secret getaway for the to use for the pool um you can do this day stay where you don't really stay overnight but you can use their pool I might go to the pool tomorrow I'm feeling a pool day at the trailborn getting a pool pass yeah getting a pool pass Renee uh hey what what's going on with Stockman's down in Pinedale

2:41:10yeah you know um I I think when I did the first story on the Stockman's stay cast insulin there in Pinedale the owner told me then he really didn't want to run a restaurant he wanted to save the building you know running a restaurant was just kind of uh incidental or you know it was a use for the building that could make a little money um but running a restaurant was really not his heart to desire yeah and this guy has a lot of irons and the fire and so he you know he's selling it he's done renovating it he doesn't want to be in the restaurant business uh he wants to find a new owner for it I think it's really kind of three businesses in one you got the stay house there's a saloon that's off to one side and then you know there's an upper story that has like apartments or they could be offices there's a big party room up there it's a really big space uh it's it's a very interesting space

2:42:17at every place that Renee has written about that we've just talked about I have DJ Snake River lodge uh uh Stockman's which is a great place to eat I hope that gets saved because Pinedale it really anchors Pinedale in a way uh hopefully there's a life after and and snow king um which is now got a new name so it is a very historic property in Pinedale you know it sits at the corner of what used to be the town's edge like the town's uh a little survey marker thing and it's been around for a long time so it is a very historic property and you know by and large the restoration that uh the buck did on it is very I'm told very thorough by people who live there uh so you know it's no longer three windstorms away from falling down it did need a little bit

2:43:20of updating uh the interior uh for sure so yeah the roof collapsed on him while he was you know really been designing his dream kitchen and the roof collapsed on him and he woke up in the emergency room in Jackson oh well that's a sign you need to put some more work into the building when the roof falls in on you yeah uh interesting all right just to make sure make it uh um so I'm not I have a DJ to every place you've written about I have not been to this pizzeria in shayan that's pretty popular uh waiting list at a pizzeria come on yeah the waiting list isn't for the food either what what's it for the waiting list is to work there oh again uh day right yeah I you know I thought that was pretty interesting I was working on a story at the time about how many businesses were saying hey we can't hire people the labor crunch is terrible

2:44:25and you know by and large that was the story from almost everyone I talked to I talked to him about whether he was having trouble hiring and his problem was he has a waiting list of youths who can't wait to have a job there I thought well that's a different narrative altogether it could be its own story uh and so I talked to some of the kids there I talked to him about you know what's different here why are these kids clamoring to work I thought you know the narrative we always hears young kids today they don't want to work they're not responsible they don't show up on time uh he doesn't have that problem and you know I think in large parts because he recognizes where they're at in life and he's willing to make a few concessions to that to help them learn how to handle their first job well that is uh against the trend I guess which makes it news worthy interesting thank you Renee great stuff have a great day

2:47:38by skip with the exception of a cover and we'll find out what what God skip viewing to cover somebody else's song like you're the song guy oh well you know I mean I I have an amazing team in the studio and in one of my co-producers goes we should do a cover just for fun and I was like okay and so so we so we did it was like one of those things where we went all right let's just for fun really we didn't know for sure we would it would go on the record and there it was yeah was uh down on the corner the old ccr yeah um always good always good it was that's never wrong um and that that be a fun song to just jam like somebody's like hey how about this one everybody knows it and then suddenly yeah well he has to do something a little bit different with it and I I invited another fun thing is the the the singers who sing for the grand old opera there are six of them that rotate in and I've every time I play the opera they sing with me and I just love their their blends and I so I yelled at them and I go we're gonna do down on the corner you want to come and sing

2:48:41and they all came in and did the vocals with me and and the whole record uh Jake that it's uh it's kind it's been a labor of love and I'm really really proud of this of this album and I'm not just when I say proud of this album I don't mean like the just the songs I mean what everybody brought to it we had incredible musicians incredible singers and it and everybody just kind of poured their heart into it maybe differently than any record I've ever made let's talk about other records you made and how this won't compare did it take shorter or longer how did the songwriting process come to you like did it just all the sudden you've got nine songs like wow that was fast and or did was it like more or are you with I don't want to say that word but like a longer journey like now no I can yeah there's an old saying that that the writing is hell and to have written is heaven yes so it was so for me for me though I I actually go through a lot of different ideas and songs I may I

2:49:48can't even tell you how many I'll toss aside I'll work on something though that's not really going to flesh out as the way that I would like to and then when I have what I like to work with I spend a good bit of time on it and I all of these things I wrote by myself some co-writing situations that might not be the case but I have found that if I give some of my my ideas some breathing room and offer them some some love maybe even set them down and come back to them and go this really is this is this right then I'll know so I never know how long it takes to write the song I just write until we have what we need and I didn't even cut all the songs that I had written we cut the songs that we felt were good for this particular album and one of the differences about this album is I co-produced it with two other guys I've never had more than one other producer be sent with me so it was Brian Sutton and Brian Sutton is arguably one of the greatest acoustic guitar players of all time and he's in my he's a he's a musical he's amazing in what he gets his arms

2:50:52around and read shipping he's the same engineer who works with you know Kenny Chesney Miranda Lambert those kinds of folks and they all like they all like thankfully my my music and what I do and so that's the kind of team that came together and then we'll go through and listen to the things that I've written and oddly enough I don't do any demos I just if I've written a song I'll turn my iPhone on and I'll record it just me in a guitar if it if it holds up that strap down and we can talk about how to make a record of it then then I'm good with it yeah how can producers and engineers then just from that get with vibe with you on the vision for what it should sound like or do you prefer like all right you you know how you know how this should be record I want to see what you bring it's interesting and you have you work with these two before yeah you know the I took a break from Nashville after writing so many so many hits thankfully I had a really good songwriting

2:51:53career wrote wrote hits for some of the people we've already talked about and and after I did that it came to you know I came to Wyoming I've been coming here for 20 years 20 more than 20 years 25 now and and we moved to Dubois and when I did that I kind of got back into music I had left Nashville only thing I did was work with horses and then or that's that's pretty much the only thing I did it wasn't in the music that much but I came back to it and we cut an album called Wyoming out of the very first thing that I cut when we came back and that that opened the doors for to make these records that we're making it was somehow my good fortune for people to hear it and go that's good you know and so we're on that we're on the course and making records well Brian Sutton played on Wyoming with me you know all right shared a lot of guitar things about that and we really hit it off the second record we weren't able to work together he was touring with Bala Fleck and his his studio schedule was crazy and then Reed Shipen came and mixed after

2:52:58afterwards when we did the second record the road to California album Reed started doing some of the mixes so when it came time for the Dragonfly album which of course wasn't called Dragonfly then I said you two guys are huge influences for me I wonder what it would be like and I reached out to Brian and Brian said we should ask Reed and then it all came together and that's when you've worked together like that people who they already will have a vision when they hear something they'll share it in their own way so Reed has a certain way of talking things through Brian has a certain way of illustrating and of course so do I and and we're not for us it's not a control thing it's not like where what we say this is exactly what's going to happen what we'll do is basically say here's the vision and as we begin inviting other elements like some of the greatest players in the world you know I mean other other musicians they're at Phillips on you know on drums for for instance and he will bring something that we wouldn't have thought of he'll have something he'll go what about

2:54:02this and and you sometimes you'll just feel it Jay you'll go that's the thing that's it yeah so it's a it's a it's a group effort and that's why I say I'm proud of it I'm proud of what everybody I'm proud of what everyone brought I can still listen to this record and go oh I love what he I love what you know what he played there whatever that well we know there's a for instance there's a there's a upright piano ride a solo that that he played on on upright piano and we did that because it's kind of almost a southern rock sort of feel and I was literally able to say David see what it's like if you just play kind of that southern rock opens open you know open octaves and he goes okay I mean I'm just waiting there and slate it man yeah and it's it's those things they happen on the fly and maybe my brain thinks of it but he you know he played it and that happens a zillion times with people who are really talented and I'm I'm just I'm very fortunate and I'm and I'm a fan I'm a fan

2:55:05of the guys who I who work with me yeah we're chatting with skip viewing dragon fly drop September 18th the new record I'm glad you're making music again and sharing it with the world can you compare a little bit doboys versus Nashville not necessarily those two communities but in in the way that the music industry has changed you know country music we see so many artists now finding their way online they don't need a record label deal they're not part of the Nashville machine that whole thing where is the industry right now and can I horse guy from doboys be a be a musician well obviously I can yeah but I I may not be the one I may not be the one to ask what you know what is the now because I'm not in Nashville all the time I work there one thing about Nashville is there's an incredible pool of talent and there's also there's a

2:56:07community a creative community there and those two things are to cultivate that somewhere else or to actually try to cut it out I think is is foolish because there's so and even me I have done this for quite a while and I still want to learn I still want to hear what's being done now the you know approaches sonically like from a studio standpoint how is that how does that how does that work how do we make how do you get that sound it makes someone go oh that's cool you know what's cool now but also for after years of work there are there are people there are artists there are musicians there are producers and writers in Nashville who because of the time they have spent doing it are really perhaps they're really artists in their own right and I think it's important for us to you know have some reverence for that and and the history of it you know I mean to look and say if you don't maybe you don't like what's going on the country right now

2:57:10but if there was ever a point that you liked country all of those things are connected like a river you know Jimmy Rogers inspired inspired you know this which then inspired Haggard which then inspired me which then inspired you know and and all of that is just a really valuable thing even to know it's there so I'll travel to Nashville and I'll work there sometimes right there spend weeks at a time there go play the opera you know and and yet I love not living there okay I'm not a concrete guy I just I know that and I I fly back from Nashville you know usually it's Jackson Old and Jackson Hole and go I'm so glad to be home you know in drive home drive home over the past get you get on our road and it's you know it's very very different than most people recognize what why why I'ming is and and and the people and the culture and the and the speed of it like one of the things I say that I love is what's not here because I'll stand on my deck and I'll just listen

2:58:17and I don't hear cars I don't I don't hear traffic I don't and that's a that's a gift to me so both of those elements I think are something that that nourishes at least my artistic journey being here nourishes me in a number of ways especially in my writing and being in Nashville I'm able to still you know have have relationships and work with people that are so so good that I'm always learned from it and be fortunate too yeah I wonder how many tourists just traveling through have no idea that guy in the corner at cowboy cafe enjoying a pie is a famed singer songwriter myth hey skip how tell me about is the songwriting aspect when you write a song you know your songs have landed with with famous artists so successful huh for you it is it hard to let go of a song not perform it yourself have you ever had a situation where you wrote a song and you had an

2:59:24artist in mind like this should be so and so kind of singing it and then it was there ever an experience where somebody has just done something with a song and you're like oh wow you just took a do another level I think all of those things have happened Jake you know that sometimes if that's it's especially a parent for instance if Kenny Chesney and I write which we've done you know quite a bit and I've written hits for a not a written hits that that I wrote that he didn't write but also hits we've written together right so when we sit and we have an idea for Kenny Kenny writes for Kenny and there is times where I was writing and letting me know having people record my songs but when if we're writing for Kenny he's got a project that's coming up that song is going to it's going to have his voice in other words we're going to write with his where he is artistically the way Kenny speaks and I mean artistically you know there's even certain words that that that some artists would use that others wouldn't and so that's clearly something we're writing

3:00:27for a particular artist there's other times where maybe you know if I if I wrote something that was more Texas kind of swing space there was a time where of course you would maybe say oh this should go to you know this or maybe go we should pitch it to straight George straight or we should pitch it to you know Mark Chestnut or whoever those guys were and then there's other times where you write a song and you have no idea where that's going to go in a case in point I had written two number ones in a row for a guy named Brian White was someone else's star and Rebecca Lynn and they wanted this other song that I had written at the time it was on hold for Bonnie Raite and what that means is that an artist goes I want to record that don't pitch it to anyone else I'm not guaranteeing we're going to record it but I want to record that right so this is Bonnie Raite that that was a place I never you know when I when I wrote it it was very I thought a very powerful song a big ballad it wasn't necessarily country but it never came to my mind that it would be Bonnie Raite you

3:01:30know who wanted to sing it well she didn't end up recording it because the the producers for Brian White said dude we've had two number ones in a row and we just really believe in this song you've got to let us cut it you've got to let we literally had to call Bonnie Raite's press in L.A. and go listen you guys really think you're going to record this and they were like we're too far out to know for sure so we had to make a decision maybe she records it maybe she doesn't but this is that someone who wants to record it and release it as a single on country radio and we got to feed our families that's the way that goes sometimes right so it ended up being a country number one that I didn't expect you know I didn't I never would have thought that Brian would cut it but nor did I think Bonnie Raite would want to cut it so now I say it's the best Bonnie Raite cut I've never had if that if that tells you you you sometimes have to let it go and see whose heart it moves that's

3:02:30so awesome off on what what the case is yeah skip let's talk about the new release dragon fly songs on that anything that that we should be looking for any any what are your favorite they're all your favorite right I mean you they're yours but I'm interested in the in the duet I love when you bring in another voice and and when that occurred about yeah what what are we going to see on this album what it what is it different that maybe we we wouldn't expect from skip viewing or what is just skip viewing and even better well I mean I think skip viewing is a journey too man right told you I you know I'm always learning but I'm also learning from my life so I think some of the when I write when I write and I what I look for are the places where we are often most beautifully and most similarly human so I like to write about things that we in our in our lives go dang

3:03:30that I I get that but I get that because I'm living I'm I'm living that kind of life you know I've I've had that think those things happen with my love relationships or or whatever those are but I didn't sit down and think now this is going to be a certain journey I just let I just let music come and let the thoughts come I go out hiking I mean I literally I'll just leave and and hike I don't have to have my guitar to roll things around in my head all the time okay so it's it's quite diverse and you know the song you're talking about is called stronger where you're broken that's like a where you've had all these things happen to your heart but we we wanted that to be something powerfully strong why because because you've gone through that now you can be what you need to be for the relationship you really want that was may est is a nice thing in that song and I I really wanted there to be a female influence in that there's another song on here called the play on and these these songs are out you can go and listen to these now the whole album is not out

3:04:36play on is a bit about my my upbringing talks about you know I'm art and guitar and a five string banjo and and it talks about the devil and natural I mean it's very very clear what the song is about and what that it's because it's so difficult it is about defying the odds is what play on is there's a song that's going to come out it's it'll be the single release when we release the actual album called whiskey in you and that that is an interesting relationship song because it it is something a lot of people have built with which is he's the the the fact that the person in that relationship drinks is the real difficulty and that is what is very hard you're if you have a situation where alcohol is is ruining your relationship and yeah that's hard but I wrote I wrote a you know I wrote a solid just a solid country song on something that I thought was important

3:05:40and I hope people will you know we'll like that and there's there's some fun stuff like that on the corner is fun me and God and a fishing pole we were able to write that about really just kind of a communing with the you know like like what we have here in Wyoming it's a big it's a big thing for me to just be with myself and and you know I say it's close to it's close to God and this as much in the universe as I can I like to look at the stars and feel small I think it's healthy and so so this you know I I say you can't really describe it so I hope that you will go listen to it me and God and a fishing pole was the radio single that was just out it's been in the top 10 now for what or for I don't know several several weeks yeah that's done very well for us and and yeah so so it's it's like that you can listen to a number of my hope you'll go follow us on socials and and you know check out Spotify or Apple and listen to what's there when the whole album comes out that'll be it that'll be an exciting thing that's what a week from Friday Jake

3:06:43yeah we're getting there right and the day after the album comes out you'll be able we're doing the the Grand Old Opera on Saturday night you can watch that too you can actually it's televised yeah I was just going to ask you you you're going to play out in support I mean I the days of supporting an album with a with a big tour I don't know where we are with everybody are you going to play out and about are we going to see you in Wyoming well we don't have a tour with yes yes the the answer to that is yes but we haven't announced whatever tour is going to happen yeah so here in the next couple of months you know it's not really fair and touring season we'll be doing some shows I've got two different shows that are in Nashville and some special guest shows but next year there will be a quite a few dates and in this year we were all over we didn't really we played a show here in Dubois a veterans benefit show and it was kind of a last minute just something we could do a pop-up concert for to help but I if we're going to play in Wyoming again

3:09:56kid has brought me home a cold it's bad really oh yeah well not the somehow worked through it um I want to talk about this story uh Wyoming is is probably a place where you would expect to find lots of sheets of ice especially in the winter especially in the barking lot when you're getting out of your car but that's not the sheet of ice we're talking about ranks and like regular old ice skating rinks um to be a skater in Wyoming of any kind of notoriety or fame or heading for the lump is like Wyoming doesn't really produce a whole lot of figure skaters till now maybe absolutely this is what's really fun about this story is that I was actually introduced to it because I know one of the ice skaters personally she skis with my son and it always fascinated me

3:11:02here's a little girl from their mobulous who's doing figure skating and so I saw this post about her friend making it up to the nationals and it was like somebody from Wyoming made the nationals for ice figure skating this is amazing and then when you think about the tenacity and how hard it is just for them to find ice and to the driving that they have to do it it really it's one of those things where you have to think outside the box and I had never heard of a virtual coach before for ice skating that's the hook yeah it's pretty neat Daisha is that her name Daisha Thomas Daisha Thomas 15 year old the drive and dedication it takes to get to her level and then you know you get to a level where you're so good you now need coaching that you know Wyoming doesn't supply doesn't have and she is coached virtually um how do how does that even work

3:12:06well it all started because of covid right everything starts because of this and so virtual coaching was never a thing before and Anita Hartchorn has actually taught ice skating since she was 17 years old for over 50 years and when covid hit she decided to go virtual she thought it was going to be temporary but then Daisha kept showing up and became her first permanent student and now she has several and the dedication it takes for this kid she only started ice skating at 11 and even I who I'm not a part of it know that you're supposed to start at two years older five years old if you want to be a high caliber so not only is she in Wyoming doing virtual coaching searching for ice but she also got a late start so her story is just it's one I am tenacity is the only where that keeps coming to mind she's amazing I want to see her at the Olympics I'm going to be

3:13:10following her career um all right it's gonna be fun to watch just listening to what she has to do there's a lot of off ice training that these kids do too I hadn't even realized that was a thing ballet whatever yeah well just exactly they actually do go to the ballet studio and learn how to do their turns and jumps and and I guess one of the biggest things is not getting dizzy so trying to turn in world and world so you're not coming out of it like whoa I know that's I don't know how they do that like as a hockey player I have shared ice with with figures skaters and I but I'm like I will never do that I will never be able to do that I'm not interested in leaving the ice jumping and landing no no I'm not doing that I don't know how they do have that stuff good for them no this is I think and we're gonna see more and more of it because she says now

3:14:13Dacia is leading the way and all these other girls are like it's possible I can do this in the in Montana too we're gonna be seeing a lot more rule ice skaters I'm excited to watch this trend yeah good point this will be inspirational for the next 15 year old but still let's see what Dacia's got the 15 year old maybe is on a Olympic path um there's also other gold metals like you can earn as well so she might go that route but she said it's gonna be definitely a lifetime sport for her Wyoming history story from Jackie Dorothe legend rocked winged monster thunder bird every time I think of petro glyph and what it looks like this is what I um envision is this thunder birdie thing you see these things I this is one of my favorite petroglyphs off of legend rock out here in hot springs county I also like the rabbit I like um we have ones that date back to

3:15:1910,000 years and I have had the privilege of talking to the archaeologists that have worked on this and down the diggings and just the stories out there and so to be able to find this story about an 1890s sighting and these cowboys uh when you really start digging and you find a first person account of someone that knew these cowboys and said they're reputable so the story is in 1890 out in the Arizona desert these two ranchers come across this giant bird and it's featherless so I'm thinking taradactyl you know that's what my mind is going honestly and they find one of the last taradactyls in the world and so you follow this story and all I wanted to present is here are the oral accounts let the readers decide what it is is it a thunder bird or is it a taradactyl or was it a figment of their imagination we even had one person say maybe it was a condor

3:16:25because the first person account said well it wasn't as big as 164 spread but it was 30 to 40 feet so it's still a giant bird or a giant monster and it was found by cowboys that had nothing to lose to make up this tall tale they're like hey we found this thing in the desert so it's just one of those fascinating mysteries who knows it forever know the answer to it or not thunder bird taradactyl or too long in the saloon for these cowboys I don't know what they were seeing good story from Jackie Dorothy finally how about the lander woman who grows 800 pounds of heirloom garlic oh my goodness I want her garlic powder when she described it with the punch that it has yeah I am ready to try it out and then not only does she mean garlic powder but let's start from the beginning so she has a hatchery and so she hatches in lander a thousand chicks and this

3:17:31keeps her busy during the spring when everyone else she said is planning tomatoes lettuce and doing the regular garden so she needed a garden that she could grow a product after she was done with the chickens and that's garlic I had no idea and I now want to do this you plant garlic in October and it who knew oh okay and then you harvest it in July so it was this perfect mix for her and then when she started describing all the different stuff the different type of heirloom garlics from the Georgian fire which is what she makes her garlic powder out of to the big bulbs out of Montana and of course the one that's been in America for 400 years I mean this is just fascinating I had a lot of fun there was so many different directions to go with this story from the history to what she does with it and on top of everything else she makes garlic brownies

3:18:36I saw that what is a garlic brownie I love garlic but I don't know garlic brownie she said she takes one of her garlics and permits it and so it becomes sweet and so the and she said she and Melissa him Ken who is the owner of this ranch she said that what she does is that she takes a sweet black garlic and mixes it with chocolate and she has brownies fudge and I'm just like my mind is blown at that moment impressive from the garlic roared to the figures skating teen to the winged monster cowboy saw a lot of cool stuff from Jackie Dorothy Jack have a great day I will my vote is still tarot actal yeah probably a tarot actal all right we got to get out of here it's the end of the show Cowboys Take Daily Show thanks
