But look, this is another example. The last few weeks have been like this, John, where the giants with a team that's devoid of so much of its star power, so much of its veteran leadership has showed so much fight. And they did so again. Tonight they were down 7-1, and nothing was going right. And this game came all the way down to the very last pitch with the best closer in the game on the mound and the 21-year-old kid battling with him.

So credit to the giants for even getting to that point in the game. Well, we've gotten used to seeing Raffi Devers carry this team on his shoulders here in the last two, three weeks, especially. But the first inning they jumped ahead and Cox got a base head and Stolter base and Eldridge, two of the giants youngest rookies, combining for a run there. And even in the fifth inning when they jumped back into the game, and it was Devers with the grand slam. But the rally started, it kids during, and he's been around a while, hit a double to get it started. But Cox got a walk and then Cox got a walk. And Robbie Raid could not afford to walk either one of those guys, and maybe he was running out of steam. I don't know what was going on with him, but they did not look over anxious. They knew that however they got on base would be just fine.

And they took their walks. So, and again, Eldridge, he just seems to be in the middle of almost everything. And there's Mason middle of the best in the game, one of the best ever in that job. And he was pitching to Bryce Eldridge like it was game seven of the World Series. It was, it was something to see. It was. I mean, I just continue to be so impressed by him. Is it bad? And the first inning was a great example of the kind of bad we've been seeing from him. He's just got an ability for a guy who was pegged coming up as an all-or-nothing power hitter like that. His calling card is he's just going to hit a bunch of home runs. He's got, he's not like that at all. Like he is so much more of a all-around hitter than, then I think I ever realized just watching the stats and reading the reports from him as a big time prospect. It's hard not to be impressed with him. And how about the performance of Junior Marta tonight to keep the giants in the game?

Give him a chance. Junior Marta five innings of shut out pitching against his pottery team. He came in and looked like a blowout in the making. And I'm sure they were ready to feast on him for more. And they got two men on with nobody out of the fifth inning, which is only his second inning in the game. And the two men on were at the bottom of the, it was the top of the order that came up after that. And then he got out of it. So it was just pretty strong all the way through. And that was really the only time that he was even really threatened by the Padres in his five shut out innings. Just a great job by him. And look for the giants. You're not going home going. Wow, isn't that great? We only lost by two runs. You're not feeling like that, but they should be proud of how every single day they're coming out here and putting for these are really the last games this weekend. Because the Dodgers, I don't, I guess it's possible that they could still be playing next weekend to wrap up a buy through the wildcard round.

And that's important for them. But Dodgers don't have a whole lot to play for at this point. And the twins are have fallen out of it and the Cardinals have mostly fallen out of it. So these are kind of the last pennant race games for the giants this year. And I hope the next two are like this, this game here tonight because it's fun to watch the giants play in these spirited games. It really is. Well, truly. And I feel that to see Jonah Cox lay down a bunch. Because you're facing the guy throwing 102 mile an hour, 103 mile an hour fastballs. And, but he, I guess he spied where Machado was playing at third and thought, oh, I think I can easily lay down a bun on that side and get myself a hit. So just a great, heady kind of a play. And, and for a rookie to do that, I think there are a lot of rookies because they don't grow up laying down buns.

When they've got great talent or even laying down a whole lot of buns in the Middle East because he's hitting great. And he was hitting great when they brought him up this year. And, but he dropped down that bun. What a play that was because there's Raffi Devers on deck. And you've just set the table for the one of the hottest bats on the planet right now. And, and you're the possible time run now at first base with Devers coming up. It should be the goal for every giant right now. Get Devers up there with a chance to do some damage. He did it again tonight. Alright, we'll pick players right after this. New haircut? Looks good. Thanks, man. Supercuts. Supercuts? Supercuts. Walked in, had an amazing stylist, affordable, in and out, even got a hot towel from my beard. Huh. Didn't even know they did beards. Oh, yeah. Did a nice job cleaning things up. We're going to pick a couple players and then let John do the highlights. John, who you got? I guess I already kind of tipped my hand on Jonah Cox. But is a pretty good guy. three times. But that wasn't even the right segment for it, John and Hock. So I'm

going to go with the Nate Furman. He coaxed that walk with two down and nobody on. Now, who knows all the stuff that was going through his mind? And we broached the subject of what a moment, what an opportunity for a guy like Nate Furman. And I love the way you put it at the time. It's not just the big leagues, but you want to know what it's like at the very highest level in this game. Well, you're stepping right into the middle of it right now. This is this is what it is like at the very highest level. Truly. And he did his job. I mean, he found one picture away. And I thought, Oh, that's pretty good swing right there. But then he just took his walk and refused to get over anxious. It was kind of a veteran kind of a and, and, Hey, Mason Miller, I'm sure you had a whole different look at it. I couldn't throw that guy a darn strike. So bad on me. But if I'm Nate Furman, I say, and if you had, I want to drill it for a base hit. So

anyway, I'm going Nate Furman. He got that opportunity. And I thought he made good on it. Maybe a tell your grandkids about it kind of moment for him. That's pretty cool. You pick. Well, I mean, we did discuss the gamut of giants who contributed tonight. And there were a lot of them. I'm just going to take the big dog. Ruffy Devers right now is just that giants haven't had anybody like this in a long time. And when he hit the Grand Slam was cool. Even cooler was when Furman drew the walk and Cox put the bun down. And he came up with two outs in the ninth inning. The whole place was buzzing, meeting on the mound, panic on the Padres. And he ends up drawing a walk. But like, that is, that's Aaron Judge, like that's Shoei Otani, like where teams are counting how many spots tell we get to this guy. And how can we maneuver around him and keep him from beating us? That's how hot Ruffy Devers is. And hey, I think, you know, Mason Miller, I'm sure the

Padres and their manager Craig Stamman, their associate manager, Ruben Neabler, at least had it in the back of their minds, do not let that guy beat us tonight. Well, there was his chance to beat him. And he had already propelled the giants right back into the game with the Grand Slam. And it was a pitch that was not a strike that he hit for the Grand Slam. It was amazing. So, and he still headed out of the ballpark. And it would have been out of all 30 parks, according to the, to Statcast. And, but then they finally said, well, we're not even Mason Miller said, I can't let that guy beat me. So he ended up walking him. So, and, and that was pretty great trip to the plate, other by Devers as well. Took his walk because it also moved the possible time running into second. And who's been best? I'm getting that big base hit, especially lately. With runners all over the bases, that's right. The guy who came up next, Bryce Aldridge. So, anyway, Devers, great call. Yeah, he's,

he's something else right now. Okay, what's on deck sponsored by your California four dealers? Well, tomorrow, day game, quick turnaround time, Michael King, he's good. Maybe the most solid guy in the Padres starting rotation says our Paredomo. He's opened a lot of eyes on the giant side and has pitched really well in his first two appearances. So he gets a home start tomorrow. He pitched two games, six innings of shut out ball against the match in their home ballpark with that great lineup. They had just hit what five home runs in a game tonight before. And four shut out innings in Pittsburgh that helped the Giants come back from a seemingly an impossible deficit and the eighth inning of that game. So, that's a pretty good week. What was it? Ten ten innings in his two games and he only allowed one run. That was it. Tomorrow, he's right in the middle of a pentagrace pitching against the Padres. Say's our Paredomo.
