Members of the Las Vegas community gathered Friday morning for events across the valley honoring the lives lost in the September 11 terrorist attacks. A large crowd turned out for the ringing of the bells at Fire Station 5 were a piece of steel removed from the World Trade Center serves as a reminder of that tragic day. Today Las Vegas Fire and Rescue remembers. Fire Station 5 has become a place of sanctuary
for our community as we remember. Firefighters carried out the ringing of a bell to honor a long time tradition of letting others know a firefighter had died and a flag that once stood at top the World Trade Center was raised to half staff. At Palo Verde High School student staff in first responders paid tribute to a teacher who died in the 9-11 attacks. Barbara Edwards was on American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon. She was the only full-time Las Vegas resident who died in the attacks. Palo Verde Jr. ROTC Cadets replaced a tattered American flag with a new one during the ceremony, which took place only a few feet from a memorial dedicated to Edwards. A man who admitted to killing his girlfriend is sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. 42-year-old Brandon Tonorio pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2023 death of Courtney Glover. Chief District Judge Tierra Jones followed a plea agreement in the sentencing Thursday. Metro police previously said Glover was found dead in a home in the
Northwest Valley. According to an arrest report, Tonorio told officers, quote, I did it. I killed her as he walked out of the house with blood on his hands and arms. And court Glover's father described the sentence as cutting Tonorio some slack for his crime. Tonorio apologized and said he accepted full responsibility. This star of the latest sphere residency made the wrong kind of headlines Thursday night. John Katslemi does has the full details. Cudain Leon packed the sphere on Thursday night. Too bad, he didn't perform a show. The Latin superstar left about 17,600 fans in the lurch. After announcing at 8.30 pm, he would not perform a show that was scheduled to start a half hour earlier. Leon was reportedly returning from a quick trip to his home in Erma, Seale, Mexico and says problems with the breaks on one private plane and the navigation on another forced him to miss the show. The day will be made up on September 15th, 2027 as Leon is back again for Mexican Independence Day weekend. Tickets from Thursday will be honored or refunded by October 10th this year. Leon was apologetic about the outcome and all of his current shows are still on the books. Now for Vegas Nation on the lead is on the Raiders.
