Here's more Leicester news for March 16th. Moore's homes just got approval to build 441 new homes on a 38-acre site in Leicester's Ashton Green area near Beaumont, Lays. This is part of a huge mixed-use project led by the City Council to deliver up to 3,000 properties and tackle the growing need for housing. The site was first set aside for development back in 2006, but progress has been slow. As of September 2025, only 345 homes were finished with the first 100 coming online in 2020. Local leaders have mixed feelings. A counselor once called the pace embarrassingly slow, saying the home should have been built years ago. Now, City Mayor Sir Peter Solzby praises it as key to meeting housing demands over the next 10 to 15 years and boosting the local economy. Phase 3 should start by late spring, while Phase 2 wraps up this summer with 307 homes. A fourth phase for 570 homes is in the works, pushing the total past 1,400 in the area.
The full 320-acre Greenfield project will include community centers, health facilities, jobs, and shops. Up to 30% of the homes will be affordable for rent or shared ownership, with Moore's homes committing to energy-efficient builds. Quick thanks to today's sponsor. See the description for more.
