Hello and welcome to AGPHD Daily. I'm Brian Hefty, Along with Zach Hefty. We are broadcasting today from the Terraplex Studios. And today in the show we're going to talk a little about what's new for 2027. I get it. You're probably still pretty focused on 2026. But it's always good to think about, well, what could I do different next year? What's coming down the pike? So we're going to talk about that a little bit today. All right, so what's new for 2027? Zach, anything you're excited about, anything you've seen that's new that's coming out? Honestly, there's a lot of new, well, they're mainly probably getting to be out in 2028, but you will see them a lot more next year as the new traits for soybeans, like,

like, like, iconic, and nemesphere. So those two traits will be coming out. That would be kind of cool. But for next year, I'm really excited to try out a new water hemp product from Bayer. That one is interesting because everyone's been dealing with water hemp issues and it's specifically targeting water humps. I'm wondering if that's how that's how well that's going to do and adding that in. I'm excited for that. And then just overall, yeah, conventional. And so and then just overall just I'm always excited trying new stuff. There's going to be new drones that are going to be coming out to there's just new every thing. There's just a lot of new stuff and not that it's all like, oh, I'm going to switch everything that we're doing and just do these new things. But it is interesting to at least see them and learn about them because in the next couple of years is probably when a lot of people are going to be using whatever said new thing it is next year. And so learning about it, seeing where it works and where it doesn't work, it just feels really important for me to learn those types of things because there's going to be a lot

more questions about them as we go along the next couple of years. What are you excited for? Well, I'll switch things up because you talked about products. I want to talk about economics because that's all I've heard about for like the last two or three years, got a cut costs, got a cut costs. All right, you got your wish. Herbicide prices going down and in some cases way down. On top of that, you could pay zero interest this next year at least for crop protection products because there are a whole bunch of 0% APR finance programs and some are available today. So one of the biggest things I've been telling people is why are you not locking in your inputs for next year right now on 0% APR when it's price protected? You can't lose. So there are a lot of companies that are coming out with prices in September and even more in October. So buy your products by October. That's what I'm advising people to do. The other thing is I am really excited about soil fertility and just learning more about

fertility. Well, we've been comparing soil tests to yield, but this may be new to your farm. If you have not been comparing soil tests to yield, you got to do it. It's awesome. You pull soil tests based on GPS points. You compare that to your yields, which have GPS points if you have a yield monitor. It's fantastic because then you figure out on your own farm with your data, which fertility products are making you money with what fertility levels you need to get to. Rather than guessing at fertility, when you have thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars at stake, that's a pretty good thing to do. So anyway, yeah, there's a lot of new stuff. We're going to talk about that throughout the show today, but right now let's get to the YIGP HD Mailbag. It's a Mailbag. All right. Up first in the Mailbag, we got this question in from Chris. He's wondering about micronutrient tie-up. So he's been really diving into a lot of YIGP HD episodes on soil microbes and trying to establish a direction for his farm up in northern North Dakota.

I only have an air drill or sprayer with streamers to apply fertility products. That limits me to zinc sulfate and copper sulfate as zinc and copper sources. What's that? I love them. They're both great. But go ahead. The question is, am I wasting money on these dry products with soil tie-up or do I have to keep applying to compensate for the tie-up? What tie, I don't know what tie-up we're really getting, but maybe in high pH and lots of calcium, but I mean, I'm really not all that worried about the zinc or the copper out there. So, I mean, this is what I recommend to people. Just get your zinc sulfate and your copper sulfate out there. Let's build up the soil profile overall. So we don't really know if we're getting tie-up or we aren't unless we do some tissue analysis and just see what's happening that way. But no, I'm not exceptionally worried about tie-up with either zinc sulfate or copper sulfate. Those are both pretty good products. And the pH is 7.4 to 8.2 for this scenario.

And then the next one. Yes. So when it's 8.2, sure, we could be a little concerned about that. But I mean, let's get those levels up. So this is also why I was just talking about comparing soil test to yield. If you do that, then you're going to find out, well, what level do I really need to hit on my farm? For a lot of guys, it's 10 parts per million, like on a male, like three zinc test. And for copper, I've been surprised. Some of the guys, it's four, five parts per million, something like that. Traditionally, a lot of people are less than one part per million on both zinc and copper. So I guess I would just say it's hard to tell for sure, but I want your levels most likely to be higher. If you send us some soil tests, then we can give you a little better answer maybe. Yeah, because this next one is about phosphorus. For the last 20 years, I've been applying build rates and can't get the parts per million to climb. Although I've been pulling out bigger yields than I was back then. Where are you applying build rates? I was just talking to a farmer.

It was a dad and his son just a couple of days ago. And they said, yeah, we're building all the time. We're putting on more than we're using. And I go, okay, what are you actually putting on? Well, this is what we put on. And I go, wait a second. I'm looking at the egg PhD fertilizer removal app. That's not even as much as your crop is taking. You're putting that on every year. Well, we put it on when we plant corn. I go, wait a second. You're doing corn and beans. And that's all you're putting on. There's no wonder your levels are terrible. So let's look at what are we actually removing? So here's the other thing. Don't forget about the best areas of your field. I'm not talking the average. Let's look at the best areas. In the best areas, you probably need to put on 20, 30, 40% more fertility because that's what you're getting for yield in those spots. So I'm just guessing that's what's going on. So John, what is different about these because agro liquid has a full of products. So what's different about these other ones and what are they going to help with or bring to the table? Sure. Sure. So the Monty's product line up, both the humic and folic acids are quite different than a lot of other carbons that are in the market. There is a proprietary way that we what we call activate them and that makes them more reactive in the soil, makes them soluble in water and it allows them to interact with the soil and the nutrients and the plant roots much better than a lot of other other carbon

sources from other companies do. And so Monty's liquid carbon, for example, it's a 2% humic acid and it functions primarily as a soil conditioner. It is going to help make the soil less compacted. It helps with balancing the soil so that the microorganisms and the plant roots in such have a better environment in which to grow. And so we're using that type of technology in the whole, the soil amendment component of the crop nutrition planning process and that allows us to have a lot more flexibility in the product lines that we use.

Yeah, that's interesting. So you mentioned about the liquid carbon product, getting that kind of worked into the soil or onto the soil, is that something you just apply right onto just bare ground? Can you do that with any herbicides? Is it just need to go out by itself? How does that work? Sure. Yes, Monty's liquid carbon can go out as a broadcast application on the soil. It can also go in furrow or as a 2x2 or as a banded application through side dress. And we can mix it with a variety of crop nutrition products and crop protection such as herbicides in the spring. So again, a lot of flexibility with that. Yeah, absolutely. Is there anything else, John, that's exciting for you going into 2027 that you're looking forward to? The Agress Wheat product.

It's a sugar based product and quite frankly that's something that we haven't dealt with before. So we're looking very positively at what we're going to see with Agress Wheat. Agress Wheat being a combination of Fouque Tos and Glouque Tos. It is primarily going to be a product that's going to help feed the biology in the soil. So that makes for a great partnership product with the Monty's liquid carbon and with the Equal Liquid Nutritional products that we have. Yeah, absolutely. So yeah, those are the main ones that we have right now. We have a couple of experimental fertilizer products that are in our pipeline that we have not made final decisions on yet, but as they come about, we'll be happy to talk to you about those. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, that's all interesting.

And again, we've been talking with John Leif with Agra Liquid and agronomist there. Thanks so much for being on the show. We appreciate it. Well, thank you very much. All right, so next up we got Joe Sheffers with us. He's with Bear Joe. You got a lot to talk about. It's a real orm trade, iconic. Everybody's interested in, but I want to hit the main one that people are discussing in terms of water hem control. It's conventional. So tell us real quick about conventional that could be used in corn and soybeans. Pre. Correct. Yep. Coral conventional just received a federal label here this summer. We have state labels in most states. Few are left to go, but we should have that in place soon. And of course, Conventrose, the first group 12 that we've been able to use in corn and soybeans here in the US. It's an Amaran specialist. So it does really well as a pre-emerge in water hem, palm or Amaran, other fig weeds. So many are really looking forward to that. Now, I just talked to somebody today who said, I want to get Conventrose, but I suppose

it's going to be tight this coming year. I said, I don't really know. Tell us what is supply kind of looking like for next year. Well, clearly there's a lot of demand for it, especially based on what people experience for water hem control here in July. We're still trying to finalize that acreage number. It's of course a molecule we've used in other world areas and other crops. So it's something we know what to make. But as far as a specific number, that one's a bit hard to pin down right now. Clearly a high demand product. Okay. Right on your website, you've got a little video showing that with soybeans, when they come up, there's a little bit of yellowing. Can you talk to us about that? Because I've had a few people that are concerned. Others said, oh, it's no big deal. We see that with some other herbicides. So what do we see using Conventrose? Anything in corn? I know we see something in soybeans. Yep. So Conventrose, the group 12 is a PDF inhibitor.

So it's going to limit some chlorophyll or if they will, it's ability to protect that chlorophyll. So you're going to see some crop response, not only in soybean, but you will in corn. The corn response is a bit of, is a banding on the leaf. You know, at about that V67 window, it'll be a band on that leaf that you'll see throughout the year. And then in soybeans, you can occasionally get the symptomology that we might be used to another crop or other herbicide, I should say. And that crop responses and turn into a yield loss. But it's something there that we'll definitely be talking about with customers just so that they're not surprised what it happens. Okay. We can talk a lot more about Conventrose, but I've only had a couple minutes left. Vyconic, are we just looking at the moment it's stewarded production? That's kind of what I've heard for next year, the Vyconic soybeans. So we're anticipating a stewarded production for next summer. That's we have to get our Chinese and European export approvals.

And it looks like that'll be tough to get in time for deliveries, which we need to get rolling in January of February. Sure. So, and again, for our listeners, Vyconic, that's tolerant to glyphosate, to glyphosinate. So basically round up and liberty besides 240, dicamba and HPPD tolerance. So I'm excited, most Joe, about the HPPD tolerance, because I think we're seeing a lot of HPPD carryover. So basically, Calisto and those types of products carrying over into beans, because we've got some guys using some really high rates of HPPDs. Correct. Yeah. And I think we've seen that in some of our own trials where it gives you that protection. It's specific to mesotryone. So if you're using meso and your corn, then you may see a bump in your bean. All right. So I got about 30 seconds left, rootworm. What's the story with the new rootworm trait you're working on? Yep. So corn rootworm 4 is a new corn rootworm trait, fourth generation.

We should again have approval for that, hopefully, within the next year. We're going to launch some hybrid in the fall. And it replaces the Herkylx piece. It's two new proteins. We have an ad-new protein for a lot of years. And it'll also include our RNAi technology, which has been highly effective. All right. It's exciting stuff coming from Bayer. That's Joe Sheffers. When it comes to making successful crops, there's a lot of ground to cover. It's time for the egg Ph.D. spotlight. All right.

On today's egg Ph.D. spotlight, we're going to go up to a question we got from Austin up in Saskatchewan, Canada. So he's mainly growing lentils, canola, and spring wheat. But they're having some kosher problems in their lentils, particularly on the headlands. So number one, controlling those weeds. But number two, do you think soil compaction on the headlands could be a contributing factor to yield loss and more kosher? Yes. So I'll just say this. We talk a lot about herbicides here on the show. Crop canopies, the very best weed killer there is. So if we can raise an amazing, thick crop that gets tall, that can choke out the weeds, I mean, that's awesome. So that's usually what we see on endros. The crops a little shorter. Why? We got a little more compaction there. And then also, this is one of the things we do in corn, for example. And I don't know if you've ever noticed this when you drive around fields. The outside row or two of any crop is going to be a little shorter than the rest of the

field. It's just the way it is, because it doesn't have that competition for sunlight on the edge of the field. So there, we plant a little thicker all around the ends of our fields to get the corn to grow a little taller. And also when it doesn't have the competition, you can usually have higher yields on those outside coupler rows. So anyway, I'm just saying yes, the compaction thing is a big deal. Let's look at all our soil, nutrients, drainage, everything else too, but we got to try to alleviate the compaction there. Okay, as far as weed control, because I think that's really probably what he's after, and any lentil producer really wants. Yeah, he just really was thinking is the compaction for the weeds, but really he just doesn't want weeds there. So he's just trying to figure out what's going on. Sure. So the challenge is we don't have lots of great options post-emerge when it comes to lentils. There's not a whole lot you can do, and I don't know what's labeled in Canada. I'll just talk about things in the United States, and you can see if it's labeled in your country. But post-emerge, we have tough.

And other than that, we have tough. And tough is not that great on kosher. It's going to help. It's okay, but we've got to do something good pre-emerge. So this is where we go back to, we talk about the three pre-strategy. And so I mean, it's kind of the same thing in lentils. I'm absolutely putting down something like prowl or sonilan. You could use trifluoral and potentially, but prowl or sonilan is usually what we talk about. Get it. So that's the yellow. On top of that, I want to get metribusen out there. And again, you'd have to see if that's labeled in your area. Sharpen. This is another thing. It's not labeled in every area in the United States, but you can use a low rate of sharpen. In addition to that. Let them flex. So we have zijua as a group 15. So if there's any group 15, there would be labeled for use in lentils. And I don't know if there is in Canada, but I would at least check that.

And then finally, Fargo. That's another one that I'm not going to say it's great, but it at least would have a little bit of activity. So the best products are going to be the yellow, either prowl or sonilan, and metribusen. And yeah, if sharpen was labeled, I doubt that it is. But if that was labeled, that would certainly help as well. But you literally have to throw everything at it, throw everything that's labeled. Don't say, well, I got one out there. I got two things. No, we want to throw the kitchen sink at this because again, post-emerge, we just don't have many great options. I mean, there's almost nothing. So that's our suggestion for lentils. We're talking about what's new for 2027 on Egg PhD daily today. But to continue this discussion, we got Ron Geiss calling in with Corteva. He's an agronomist with them. Ron, how are you doing today? Well, doing great, Zach. Thank you for having me on the show. Absolutely. As we're wrapping up this year, we are looking towards next year in what is new? What is exciting for you and Corteva going into 2027? Zach, we've just received registration, federal and most of the states for a new post-emerge soybean herbicide called enclosah. I guess I call it post-emerge. We're going to primarily use it post-emerge in the upper Midwest. But I understand in the mid-south and south, it's primarily going to be positioned and used as a pre-emerge herbicide. So talk about what that is and closer, you said. They're using a pre-we might use a post. Talk about what it's doing and why you'd use it in either scenario. A couple of years ago, we came out with an encapsulated form of a Cetaclor and called it

Inversa. The benefit of that is you get your group 15 with the encapsulation it drives right to the soil and those are all good things. But we wanted to broaden out the spectrum. So we brought in the clopart of enclosah, that's the clolranthlam. Most people would know that as first rate. That is now formulated to be added with the encapsulated acetaclor. You've got the acetaclor for grafts, you've got the acetaclor for small acetaclor for probably fleeds. And you have the clolranthlam, like I said, most people would know that it's first rate. That's going to give us that extra boost on the tough, large-seated, broadly fleeds, like ragweed, like cockleberry, morning glory. And even in the Midwest here, velvet leaf, which is kind of creeped its way back in. I think another thing people are pretty excited about is the chance to maybe have some effect on burqubr, which has been kind of a nuisance weed, working its way in from the Mississippi River into Iowa. So talk a little bit about when you'd be using this post-emerge, because if it's encapsulated

like the encapsulated acetaclor, that's not going to burn down weeds that are out there. So you're going to want to have other things in the tank with that. What is your preferred tank mix as we go into using enclosah post-emerge? Well, what made sense for us is we bring this along with the enlist herbicide system. So use a good, strong, pre-emerge product. I mean, you guys are the best in the industry of preaching that message. And then follow post-emerge within list, typically glyphosinate, sometimes glyphosate. And then in closer, which would drive to the soil to give you residual, but the chloransol in portion will actually give us foliar activity on some of those broadly fleeds and and residual control after rainfall. Think about a half inch of rainfall to move that into the soil, and then that residual kick in and start to work. So Ron, you mentioned enclosah. Is there anything else that's new that you're thinking of? Because there's a lot of different products that you have at Corteva. There's got to be some other stuff you're excited for, too, right?

Well, absolutely. As we talked, I mean, right now, if we're just focused on soybeans, I'm thinking about the relatively new to the market, Kiber Pro, which is reformulated to have good handling, but three active ingredients, all three strong on water, and that's kind of been public enemy number one in the upper Midwest and Amaranth in the south. A year ago, we brought in sonic boom, which is going to combine sulfenter zone along with metribusen. But the interesting thing on this, that it's a little safer metribusen, or what we're used to. And it's a co-crystal salt, which essentially gives it a medium solubility metribusion instead of a typical high solubility. So much less likely to push down into the root systems of the soybeans, and yet still provide excellent weed control. So. And then, of course, the whole in-list system is built on a good pre, a good post, and residuals post. Can you explain that metribusen thing a little bit, Ron?

Because that is very interesting. And I just want to know a little bit more about that, learn a little bit more. So it's formulated as a co-crystal. So the best way to explain that, Zach, is that instead of having a molecule of sulfenter zone and a molecule of metribusen, each with their own characteristics of sulfenter zone being very low water soluble, metribusen being very high water soluble, you essentially bring it as if it's one molecule. So it's sort of like crossing your angus and your herferd, you've got your heteroosis there. By having the two different molecules combined into one, you have a more medium solubility of product. So the way I like to position this is, if we get an an inch, and a half a rain, metribusen would normally be pushed down into the soil real close to where you planted the soybeans, but that same rain in a co-crystal formulation is going to leave it a lot closer to the soil surface. Incidentally, that's where the water, hemp, and where the palm or amaranth tend to germinate.

So we could even see increased weed control while offering better crop safety. Yeah, no, that's very interesting around. It definitely makes sense like how that works, but it's kind of crazy to think about that for sure. Oh, absolutely. I started over 40 years ago. Metribusen was a product that I sold. We called it lexone back in the day. And when they came with this idea, I was kind of a trust and verify. I did put 11 sites out through Northern Iowa a year ago. And on two of those sites, I saw a very definite crop safety benefit from the sonic boom. So I'm excited what it has the potential to bring as some of these other chemistries are maybe a fading. Metribusen is still doing a good job on water, hemp, but we got to get those rates up. This is a way we can do so with more safety confidence. To be able to bring those rates higher on the soybeans. Yeah, that's that's great stuff. Again, we've been talking with Ron guys with Corteva and agronomist. Thanks so much for being on the show.

I always bring a lot of knowledge and I take a lot of notes when you're on. That's great. Exactly. We'll look forward to seeing you again. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, he brings up Metribusen. And I would just say he's 100% right. If you can bump the rate of Metribusen, you get a lot more water, hemp, and palm or control. It's something we did on our farm and granted. We did it last fall. So we like to spray a lot of our herbicides in the fall. So I'm less worried about pushing the rate in the fall. But if you're going to push rate a lot, you have to be careful about what your soil pH is. You can look on the label of sonic boom or any Metribusen product for your soil type. And I mean, it does vary a little bit the use rate and how much we're willing to push that Metribusen. But when it gets used, it's great. And I would say to, we, so where we're at in the country, we're right next to the state of Minnesota. And there are a lot of people in Minnesota that have talked about high pH soils. Oh, I can't use Metribusen because I have a high pH soil.

You can use Metribusen. You just need to cut the rate back. So I like having it out there. Even at a low rate, Metribusen absolutely can make a difference on water, hemp, and just broadleaf control in general. Even some of the products we've talked about today, if you've never used it before, then get yourself comfortable with it first. Make sure that you've experimented a little bit, tried it on a few acres before you go

big time with just about anything that's new. So be a little bit careful. I do want to say, as I bring that up, corn hybrids, soybean varieties. If you're jumping into new stuff, which undoubtedly you are because they eliminate almost half of varieties every year or every couple of years. So you're planting something that's either out this year or it just came out last year. We really don't know. We don't have enough years behind us on those varieties. So when you're planting, our advice is always plant lots of hybrids, plant several different soybean varieties. Spread your maturity, spread your risk because no one knows what's going to happen from year to year. This year, I mean, I didn't realize this was going to be one of the worst droughts in my entire lifetime. This is top five droughts in my entire lifetime and I'm old. Okay. So I would just say, we don't know.

Next year might be a flood year. The following year, we might have some other weird thing that comes up. You just don't know. So plant lots of varieties, you're much better off that way. And speaking of the hybrids, corn hybrids always plant at least two in every single field. The last couple of years, we've had a lot of people we've talked to that have had this tassel wrap issue going on and then they have poor pollination. You shouldn't have poor pollination in corn. I mean, every corn hybrid kicks off so much pollen. It could pollinate many other corn plants. So if you plant multiple varieties in a field, even if one of them, the tassels don't come out very well. Guess what? The other is going to most likely. So plant multiple hybrids in every field and usually you're better off. All right. So you want to get back to the mail back? Yep. Okay. This next question comes in from Bill down in the Mississippi Delta. He said that he's been watching and following AgPHD for a long time. So we really appreciate that. But he says it seems I'm having a hard time keeping high levels of sulfur in my soybeans.

So no visual signs of deficiencies, but the tissue tests always show low or deficient. So the yield is around 85 to 95 bushels. They did put a lot of P&K in the band. They also this year tried to drive more sulfur into the plant by at planting time, 2 by 2, putting 25 pounds of AMS in the 2 by 2 with 10 gallons of water. And then R1 broadcasted 150 pounds of AMS. Also added a little bit of AMS to every single herbicide pass. Yet the sulfur did not spike as much as I thought it would. Could you give me some insight on what's happening? What do you think I should do to help out here? Also, I have attached tissue samples and soil samples. Yep. Zach, I think for our RFD TV audience, we really should have on this iPad, the AgPHD fertilizer removal app. I think we do actually. Yeah, we do. We do. Yeah. We can click it here. We can pull it up. Yep.

We'll see if we can do that. Okay. So here's where I'm going with this. Didn't he say 85 to 90 bushels soybeans? Yeah. Okay. So 85 to 90 bushels beans. That's a lot. So here. Yeah. So I got it now. So the AgPHD fertilizer removal app. Thanks, Zach. So I always get to talk to a young person for technology questions. So anyway, if I plug in 90 bushels beans, do you know what I need for sulfur? I got to have 32 pounds. I get it that that 150 pounds that you applied sounds like a lot, but you know what 150 pounds has? Not much more than your 32 right there. So I mean, sure, it's got 36, but I'm just saying it's not that much. Do you really think that the plant is going to extract that higher percentage of anything you apply? Probably not. So here's the other thing though. A lot of times we get hung up on fertility. Oh, or his soil tests, by the way, Zach, were those the ones on there that I was looking at? Yep. Okay.

So now let's see if I can get that pulled out. I probably. He doesn't know the app. No, I don't. I have no idea how to do this. So you pull out. Very good. But anyway, so where I'm going with this is does it make money? Okay. So I'm looking at your soil tests and I see, all right, on May 18th, I've got 29 parts per million of sulfur. Okay. Then I look at June 14th and July 12th. And in both cases, I'm down to 11 parts per million of sulfur. Well, even if it was 50, here's my point. Is that making you money? Okay. Is that 150 pounds of money himself it making you money? If at some point we get to where your tissue tests show, oh, we're in great shape for sulfur, is that making you money? Is it making you more yield? So I know this is a little frustrating because you're like, can't you just tell me what number I need to hit or how much I need I need to apply? I don't know nor does anyone else in the world know exactly what to tell you. Now there are people that are going to tell you things, but they don't know for sure.

Nobody does. So I'm just saying I'm going to continue experimenting. That's really what what you have to do in my opinion, just keep experimenting with different levels. Let's see. All right. Does this get me more yield or not? Yes, it's nice to see what your tissue test levels are, but what I have learned from experience is just because the tissue test says higher low, it doesn't always correlate to yield. Okay. And also what is high in low? Is it high for 90 bushel beans or is it high for 60 or maybe it's high for 150 bushel beans? I don't really know. And I mean, there's almost no one that can tell you things like that. So you just have to do a little more work on it. But I would say this, yes, you've been putting some sulfur out there, but let's keep in mind. Big time yields for soybeans need a lot of sulfur. And that's what I was trying to show when I pulled up the APHD fertilizer removal app. Plus it does matter where are you taking the tests in the field?

If it's a low area, sulfur moves in the soil and more could move downhill to the low area. If it's a high area, well, you're probably going to have less. Also think about what's the removal in each of these areas because if I'm in a high yield spot, well, that needs just that much more sulfur. So on our own farm, we do ammonium sulfate in advance of planting a lot of times, but we use a lot of manure. Well, over time, that sulfur I can build that up a little bit with manure. So that's one of the ways we get it out there. Maneuveration sulfate and especially manure, they're basically kind of controlled release products. Okay, so there are plenty of other sulfur sources that you can use. Elemental sulfur is really a controlled release product that it could break down over two or three years even in some cases. So try some different sources maybe, try some different levels, but ultimately I don't know if I'm super concerned. Let's just make sure that higher levels that I apply correlate to yield.

So this next question we're going to get into is from Travis. He did send in some soil tests, so we appreciate that down in Oklahoma. So he's growing wheat for grazing and for grain. Plan is currently 100 pounds total of urea, 100 pounds total of potash pre-plant and then it's a little bit more at planting and then more than likely 50 pounds of nitrogen, top dress this spring. Just curious if you had any other suggestions or areas to address on these soil tests. Yeah, I do. So when I take a look at this, I say, all right, well here first of all, pH 7.2, I go over

to the phosphorus level. The Mailbag 3 phosphorus 60. So pretty decent. Potassium 174, that's okay. It's just our base saturation percentage. I don't like it when they round all the way to the nearest full number. It's 3%. Well, there's a big difference between 2.6 and 3.4%. What is it? I really like the decimal point, but anyway, I'm glad he's planning to put some more potassium out through that's good. But here's where I'm going with this. Yeah, there are other things I would look at. For example, zinc 0.8 parts per million, copper 1 part per million, boron 0.8 parts per million. Now this is a 15 CEC soil, so it's not super heavy ground. So like sulfur, boron, nitrogen, I mean, they're not going to hold all season long, possibly, depending on which gear for rainfall. But I guess I'm just looking at some of these microbes. It looks like he's talking or thinking about P and K. So let's maybe take a look at some

of the microbes and maybe that would help a little bit. So that's the biggest thing for me. Okay. Well, thanks for the question. If you have any other ones, feel free to email us back and then we'll try to get those answered. Next question we got in is from William. He sent in this on social media. He's wondering if you're spraying dicamba, liberty and round up together to get the best kill from them all. Would you add AMS to that? I know dicamba by itself, AMS is a no-no together. I was just curious if the three would AMS be helpful to add in or not? And also this is over cotton. Yeah. So first of all, I'm wanting them sulfate. They don't want that added to dicamba. So that's out. They say it increases volatility, whether it does or not, I can't tell you for sure because I haven't seen the data on it, but that's what they say. Now my question is, why are we throwing all these things together? Here's the big thing. When I look at liberty, it requires heat and humidity.

It also requires lots of water, lots of pressure. So you throw anything with it and are we doing any good atting the additional things? If you don't have, so on the show here recently, well, over the last probably a couple of years, we have talked several times about all the rules we have for liberty spraying. I mean, you got to have a hot and humid day. You got to have it sunny. You need to use the full rate. You got to use 20 plus gallons of water, all these things. If you have all that, liberty by itself is usually quite good. So all I'm getting at here is if you have the perfect day and not all that many weeds in the field, do you really need anything beyond the liberty? But if the weather's against you, especially, but if you have other factors that are against you, I can see why adding both dicamba and roundup would be fine. It's just you have to look at the label because spraying dicamba over the top, it's pretty

fussy. Follow the label. I don't know what's labeled in cotton for the tank mix, the rates, everything else. And I doubt that ammonium sulfate is approved, but I would just say those are some of my biggest concerns. Thanks for the question. We got another weed control weed control question here from Joel. He's wondering what would be the best to spray for for cocklebur and north central Kentucky? I mowed them three times already in the worst spots and as suppressed them fairly good, this must be in pasture, ditches or lawns, something like that. Yeah. My guess is we just don't have a high enough rate because usually in those situations, we're talking about 240 or dicamba and 240 and dicamba, both will kill cockleburts. It's just it takes a higher rate. That's one of the things my dad always used to talk about too because I mean, when he was a young farmer, that's about all they had 240. And dicamba came out and he just said, Hey, cocklebur, what we found is over time we had to increase the rate a little bit.

So my guess is bump the rate, but here's the other thing. How much water are we using? And if I go back to the question before I'm cotton, well, like Liberty loves lots of water. Roundup hates lots of water. The reason why is I want to get a very concentrated droplet out there with the 240 or dicamba, and this is why I'm bringing up the water thing. So if let's say that I'm spraying with a four wheeler or whatever or backpack sprayer that some people are doing in certain situations, they douse that weed and they go, Oh, it still won't kill it. If that's the case, if we're already putting on lots of water on a particular weed, then and we're not getting control and we should get control of that species, then we have to say, Hmm, maybe I just need a more concentrated droplet. I've got to get more herbicide into the plant. It's especially a problem with plants that have waxy leaves. So cocklebur, maybe not so much, but I'm just saying it could be you're putting on too

much water. It could be just that you haven't increased the rate on the 240 or the dicamba or whatever it is you're spraying enough, but just send us back, let us know what you are spraying. But I would say that's probably the issue. You don't need to do much else. You probably don't even need to switch products, but that would just be my suggestion. So I'm fine if you want to use free lex. I'm fine if you want to use dicamba and a distinct actually it'd be my favorite in pastures and ditches, but all of them can work if you use the highest labeled rate. Thanks for the question. This next one comes in from Tracy. She sent in a soil test there. I got on the iPad for you. You're interested what your opinion is and what to do with the lawn and right off the bat, the first thing that you're going to look at that you're going to see is that pH is a little bit low. That's what I would that's first. Okay. Yep. So yeah, soil pH 5.5. So that's not not real great. And cat eye and exchange capacity 7.2.

So this is pretty sandy ground. So this is one of the biggest issues. We have to make sure that we are keeping water to this lawn because in a week's time, where did you say she's from? This is in Ohio. I didn't say where it's from, but that's what showed on the test. All right. So yeah, Ohio gets pretty hot in the summer. So I'm just saying if you aren't regularly watering, that's going to be a problem. So here's the other thing. When I look at the potassium, we only have 59 parts per million, the phosphorus, male like three phosphorus, we only have 15. So in some places, you can't add phosphorus to your lawn because they worry about it running off and then it creates algae in the water. So as long as you can keep it on your lawn, I'd put more phosphorus on. I'd absolutely put potassium on and then I'd probably throw a little lime out there. So I know that's a lot of stuff. And here's the thing. We didn't get a test for copper, for boron, for zinc, for sulfur. So I don't know for sure exactly what all to tell you, but I will say as a general statement,

especially in sandy ground, nitrogen and sulfur should probably be applied at a low dose every month. And I know it seems like a lot, but it's not going to stick around very long. So don't use big rates. Otherwise, it might leach away. You just use a little bit every month and your lawn should be looking pretty good, especially if you get a little lime out there to raise the pH into the sixes and you add some more phosphorus and potassium. So speaking of reading soil tests, this next question from all Canadian, he's wondering what's a good article or cheat sheet to learn how to read soil tests and the correlation of the nutrients to each other. Because this is a thing that you talk about a lot and you just rammed off all these different nutrients. Yeah. And do you have a cheat sheet form? Well, here's the problem. There's so much stuff. So no, I don't have a cheat sheet per se, but I would say if you just follow some of the things that we're doing here at AGPHD, we put out so much content talking about how to
