Hi, my name is Mira Pataston. I'm an author, and I'm an activist. And GoFundMe is my go-to platform for fundraising. The first GoFundMe I did was to raise money for a chat book or a collection of poetry and essays and short stories. So we started to GoFundMe, and our goal was 7,000. What I've learned is so special about GoFundMe is that it's a whole collection of people offering anything from $4 to $400. And each time you get a ping that someone donated, even if it is just $4, it's so exciting. So if you have a goal, and you get there, you can keep making it bigger and bigger and bigger. We did go past our goal. It was amazing! GoFundMe is the world's number one fundraising platform, trusted by over 200 million people. Start your GoFundMe today at GoFundMe.com. That's GoFundMe.com. All the other shows that are produced by the network they live on is podcast as well. And if you haven't been over to the website in a while, what's the problem? Come on, get on over there. www.Mekronu's.com. And there's tons of news there that gets updated 24, 7, 365. And don't forget, um, we're on so many more platforms than we used to be. Facebook live, the Metro news TV app. We're basically everywhere now. YouTube has got us, you know, you can't get away. Frankly, it can't get away from us. Just do a search for, uh, for, for Metro news, uh, Metro news TV or something like that. Heck on YouTube, you can just search for our names or the show and it comes up. That's awesome. It works out pretty well. So there you go. There you go. Um, so check us out. A question of the day. Oh, I want to get into a couple of college basketball things here.
And a couple of other things we've been talking about today. And we really haven't talked to any about the WV Marshall baseball game from last night in Huntington. We'll fix some of that in a sec. Here's the other question of the day. It's opening day for Major League Baseball sort of Major League Baseball has a game tonight where the Yankees are playing the Giants in San Francisco. MLB is using more standalone games like this. I like the game tonight between the bombers and the Giants by the bait open the season. Here's the question of the day and it is sponsored by Solango Law. Does the real opening day happen the moment the first pitch is thrown or when all 30 teams are finally in action? And who were some of your favorite baseball players growing up? That's a good question, right? Does the real opening day happen the moment the first pitch is thrown or when all 30 teams are finally in action? And who were some of your favorite players growing up? We want some names here. 304 Talk 304 304 8255 304.
You can find me on exit weekly W E E K L E Y 1 word 3 E's W E E K L E Y. Let me get a couple of quick responses here. Let's see. Jody Dave. When all 30 teams play, that's the first day. Big Reds fan here. I was Joe Morgan in neighborhood baseball. My dad loved Pete Rose. Great question. Here is bananas for W V Dave. Love to look at George Brett. Later I found out he also played baseball. LOL. How about that? How about that? Well, you know, it was his day job. He was pretty good. There you go. Let's see. Yes, I believe green on X Dave. It's opening day when all 30 teams play. Does that mean week zero in college football doesn't really even go. Don't even get me started on week zero. Week zero. Week zero is week 100. Yeah, it's very weak. Yes, very weak W E A K.
Warm weather appreciator Dave. It's not officially opening day until my team plays. Well, I think that's a fair. I think that's a fair. I also had this thought walking down the hallway last hour. And forgot to share it. So I'll do it now. So tonight is the opening game. Right. And then tomorrow is opening day. Oh, that's fair. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, so that's the kind of how my hallway head. It's the word of things. Yeah, so there will be people who will completely over react to game one of 162 for the Yankees. Of course. Of course. Because that's what we do. That's what we do in sports. Yeah. You know, fan is short for fanatic. What do you mean? Absolutely. We have a bunch of text messages about this as well. Including a couple of them that I thought were pretty good. Here's somebody. And this is right that didn't appreciate our conversation about fantasy baseball in three o'clock hour. A 304 261. Hey, day fantasy baseball talk is like listening to paint dry. Yeah. We, you know, a little of it goes a long way.
A little of it goes a long way. But you know, we, we just had our listener drafts last night. So you got to indulge us a little bit. And we do one fantasy sports segment a week every Wednesday at 345. So I appreciate what you're saying there, though. I hear you. Let's see. Favorite baseball players. I knew John from Martinsburg would get in on this 304886. Dave, my favorite players, Brooks Robinson, Dave McNally, Mike Quair. Mike Quair. What an unbelievable trade that was for the Orioles. That's John and Martinsburg. Coop. I'm reading a book right now that is so fantastic. It's one of those books I can just pick up. And I don't care where I, I open it up. It's fantastic. It's the oral history of baseball in the 70s. It is so good. It is so, so good. There's so much stuff that's in that book I'd completely forgot about. Favorite baseball players of all time, 681981.
Dave, no longer in the 240. Lynn, Sakata, Jim Dwyer and Rick Dempsey. Oh, man. I guess we're really getting a lot of listeners over in the Eastern Panhandle now getting some of these O's names from the past. That is all good stuff. 304685. Dave, opening day is when your team takes the field. Well, that's fair. That's fair. A couple of things I did want to get into also. And let's see here. If you missed our conversation with Tony Cariti in the 3 o'clock hour, we're going to replay that at 533 and normally Tony comes on with us at 533. So when he's got something to do or there's a sports conflict, we normally take him live at 333 and then we play it back because 533 is when we normally have him on. And one of the things we were talking about today was the news that Hubert Davis is out
as the basketball coach at North Carolina. That North Carolina thing could have gone either way. They were really doing very well this season until their best player Caleb Wilson got hurt. But when you when you below 19 point lead to VCU in the NCAA tournament, heads are going to roll boosters basically run sports now. So Hubert Davis is out and there are a lot of really interesting candidates who might be next at North Carolina, including some outstanding coaches from the big 12. So we were talking about that a little bit. And I just I thought this was pretty interesting reading about the North Carolina situation last night. Talking about a lot of schools don't really want to go through the pain of replacing a coach because they don't want to lose for a while while that new coach builds things up. Now with the transfer portal in NIL, there's more pressure on coaches to be immediately successful than they've ever experienced in the past.
But I thought these stats are pretty interesting. This past season, well, the season we're in right now, the sweet 16 kicks back up in the men's field tomorrow. 62 new head coaches in division one this year of those 62 coaches in division one, 11 went to the NCAA tournament. So when people want to take a look at at Ross Hodge at WV and say, hey, man, the minimum should be a program that's been to the sweet 16 in Morgan town three times in the last decade. They should at least qualify for the tournament. 62 coaches, 62 coaches in division one, only 11 of them went to the NCAA tournament. Here's the list. Here's the list. Three came from the ACC Ryan Odom did a great job at Virginia. Jay Lucas at Miami will wait at NC State. Now looks like will wait's going to be going back to LSU. That's the worst kept secret in the sport. Ben McCollum from Iowa, his name was involved in the the coaching search that eventually ended
up with Ross Hodge at West Virginia. Kevin Willard of Villanova, Bucky McMillan at Texas A&M, Sean Miller at Texas. Those were the other high major coaches that made it to the NCAA tournament in their first season. There were some other new ones that made it as well. Nolan Smith, the Tennessee State Flynn, Clayman at high point. What a story they were in the tournament. Bill Armstrong at McNeese and Phil Martelli Jr. at VCU. They all made it to the to the big dance respectively. Those seven high major rosters made it to the tournament. They were comprised of exactly 100 players. Over half, 56 to be exact or first year players who came through the transfer portal. So it's a little bit more difficult than you think when it comes to trying to win immediately in college basketball, even with some of the advantages you have now with the transfer portal and NIL. One other quick thing, Coop.
Did you remember the story I was talking about Salem College and Salem University? Getting into the men's soccer competition in the Mount East Conference. That was announced today that's going to take place next season. It'll be beginning in 2026, 2027. Did you know that I used to be the voice of Salem College football? What? No, I didn't know that. Didn't you do not know that? How did I not know that? No, I didn't know that. Okay. We're going into way back machine. I haven't talked about this in a long time. I was a voice to Salem College in 83 and 84. In fact, I was just thinking about it the other day. The first year at Salem when I was the voice there in 1983, Salem with Terry Bowden as the coach lost the first seven games. They were 0 and 7. And I had to miss a game because I was helping a friend when my high school pals moved to Miami. So I helped him move to Miami.
Salem won their first game of the season when I was not there. A little surprise. Terry Bowden got divorced and they won. All these things happened while I was away. I missed the game. Salem won. Bowden got divorced and they won a game. And they won the last three games of the 1983 season. Then in 1984, they went to the NAI playoffs. That was a good run. They did this crazy quarterback that was at Clarksburg Liberty and tried to play baseball at Clemson and then came home after it didn't work out Jimbo Fisher. I was going to say did you do some coaching? At some point. It ended up being a pretty good coach. Pretty good coach. The thing that I wonder about that during that time is we get so much random media of pictures of you that cut out of different programs and pictures from different TV stations. I haven't seen anything from Salem College. That was a long time ago. There's tons of stuff that people just open up my mail like once a week.
There'll be some random picture of you and that somebody's sending us that. Generally we've seen before. You have a lot of that stuff and we've commiserated over it a little bit. But Salem College isn't one I've seen. I have a really soft spot for Salem. I can see that. I have a soft spot for Salem. My dad and I used to go to Salem all the time when I was a kid. I saw Archie Talley play constantly. We went to virtually every game that Talley played in those years at Salem. And then for me to get a chance to do their games was a really a big thing. I really enjoyed doing that. So we really haven't talked too much about Salem. But I saw that story today that they're there. They're also an associate member of the mountain east for a couple of other sports. But they are joining for men's soccer beginning next year. And I think that's really kind of an interesting story. That's pretty cool. You saw Archie Talley score a bunch of points there. Oh man, I remember one night we went in that we went up. I think I saw him and my dad and I were together.
I think I saw it with no three point shot. Right. He scored 42 points and a half. Wow. He scored 42 points in a first half of a game. He ended up scoring like 60 points in a game. And it was against it was against concord I believe. But the guy was just insane. It was just incredible. It was crazy when I used to work at his basketball camp and part of what I think it was one of the first days he would do like foul shots. And so he was just staying at the foul line. And like literally he would do 100 in a row. I mean, he didn't miss. It was incredible. It was just incredible. Here's a guy that that can do what. And this was bad in like the late 80s and early 90s. So it wasn't as bad then. But literally that skill set is almost lost today. He had the most unbelievable release of the ball. You know, when most people would shoot either left or right handed, there would be the you would have your wrist under the ball. And the other hand would guide the ball. Archie had this shot where he would grab it like a beach ball on each side of the ball.
Hold it behind his head and fire it. And I'm thinking at some point, some of those long shots, it was almost like the ball had been going forward and seemed to find the rim. Even since it's insane, insanely good shooter. Yeah. Oh, enough about Salem. Yeah, that was fun. That was fun. That was fun. Let's take a break and around his next. At the office, we let call it in or out. The setup is simple. We got three categories, food of beverage, gut reaction, and finally, this one's about a celebrity. The topics of which change daily. Let's get started with food of beverage. Cooper, you ready to go? Yeah, I'm ready. All right, let's talk a little bit about a KFC deal. A month's a March madness. KFC is offering a deal where you can get either 10 hot and spicy wings for $10 or 20 wings for $20
through the mobile app or the website for a limited time. Hot and spicy wings are marinated and double breaded with the extra crispy breading. Price is very 10 spicy hot wings from KFC 10 for 10 or 20 for 20 through the mobile app or the website in or out. And I remember when the standard you were looking for on wings was a quarter. Yeah, I know. I mean, it wasn't that long ago. The standard was a quarter. You know, the place was that quarter wing night. That was that was fairly standard. I don't know that I've had KFC's wings before. I'm imagining they're probably not bad. I kind of like their chicken nuggets to be honest with. So I thought that their wings were okay. Not my place, but this sounds fun. You know, in this day and age, a dollar wing is pretty standard. So yeah, I'm okay with that. I think it's a great promotion to run during the NCAA tournament. For sure it is. You know, man. You've lost a lot of weight, but you could probably do 20 for 20 bucks, right? Yeah, I mean, I don't know if I can sit and eat 20 in one sitting right now.
You know, I don't. Well, it depends on what kind of how big they are. You know, the wings varies significantly in size. Solid points. An average wing. I might be able to, but the bigger ones, I don't think I could. I'm a KFC mark. I'm in. I'm in. I'm in. Um, next is got reaction. Netflix is developing a reboot of the 2004 romantic comedy 13 going on 30. And it's going to be starring Emily Bader and Logan Lerman. Original star Jennifer Garner. We love Jennifer Garner. She'll be the executive producer of the project. Rebooting 13 going on 30 in a row. These types of movies have been done so often. I'm not sure why you need to reboot that film. Was it that popular? It was pretty popular. Uh, you know, and the performances in it. You had really big time future stars. Oh, sure. Yeah. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo and Judy Kraer. Yeah, I just mean, I don't know, like, like that concept is so common. I'm not sure why you have to reboot an old movie to do it. Because I mean, that concept is, is as common as sand.
Anyway, I'll generally be in. Yeah. You know, I'm going to slightly be in on this, but just slightly because I think if you like the movie, the, the originals really not that old, right? And there's tons of movies that are just like it. I mean, that's really weird. Yeah. And finally, this one's about a celebrity. Steven Colbert. Well, he needs a job, right? Oh, yes. Oh, he is. He is coming to the end of his run on CBS Warner Brothers announced yesterday that Steven Colbert and his son, Peter McGee, are developing a new Lord of the Rings movie titled Shadows of the Past. The Late Show host, a devoted token fan will adapt chapters of the fellowship of the ring that weren't included in Peter Jackson's 2001 film. Steven Colbert. Inner out. Steven Colbert. Oddly, he's one of these guys that's been in the public zeitgeist that I've never really consumed much of his content. I wasn't a daily show guy. I never really watched his late night show all that much. I don't dislike him or anything. So I'm going to be in just broadly because he seems like an okay guy. But also, this is a terrible, terrible idea.
There hasn't been anything good from that realm since the original trilogy that Peter Jackson did. And everything from token has been garbage since then. This is not going to be any better. Stay away from this. You know what? I like Steven Colbert. The Colbert Report was inspired. That was a really good show. Um, I'm just kind of sorry to see the late night TV just kind of go off the, uh, go off the edge. I mean, it used to be such a great place for a variety, uh, for a variety of comedy and music and stuff. I know it's a shame. Not so much. I'm in on that. We'll take a break. This is going to join us next. This is Metro news. The voice of West Virginia. This is hotline presented by Salango law on Metro news. The voice of West Virginia. Good evening. sports. I'm Joe Bercado on 5-A-B-W-U-C-H-S. I welcome back to the show, 26 minutes till the hour. We will hear from Tony Carey in just a couple of moments Tony joined us live at 333 today, but we wanted to play back that conversation for many of you because we know our 5 o'clock hour is our most listened to hour and you may be in the car and you may want to hear what Tony has to say about WV women's basketball and the the landscape of coaches in college basketball right now, especially in relation to the North Carolina situation where Hubert Davis has been fired in Chapel Hill and they're a handful of coaches in the big 12 that might be interested in that Carolina situation.
We'll get to that in just a moment. Well let me just do our reset on our question the day one more time, but Coupon will talk I got one NFL thing I want to get to with you and just a sack. Question of the day. It's opening day for Major League Baseball sort of sort of today. Major League Baseball is using more stand-alone games like the Yankees and the the Giants tonight in San Francisco to open the season. So the question today and it's sponsored by Salango Law is this does the real opening day happen the moment the first pitches thrown or when all 30 teams are finally in action and secondarily who were some of your favorite baseball players growing up does the real opening day happen the moment the first pitches thrown or when all 30 teams are finally back in action and who were some of your favorite baseball players growing up. We want your players. We want your take on that question 304 talk 304 304 8255 304 you can find me on next to it weekly W E K L E Y one or three E W E K L E Y.
We have not talked about this Joe Flacco thing. So did you see where Joe Flacco is back with the Bengals no, I think I missed it. So he assigned a one year deal with the Bengals and there's a story today about how he's upset that no team wanted to sign him to be their starting quarterback. So with the Bengals obviously he will he'll be the backup. But Flacco is 41 years old he said today quote believe me I wish I was the guy somewhere I think teams are dumb for not having me be that guy now I got to tell you when Joe Flacco broke in he did not seem to me to be the kind of guy who would be playing quarterback into his 40s you know isn't that it's so crazy and we we mentioned Joe Flacco a couple weeks ago remember we had Brad how on the show for a friend or out a couple of Fridays ago and Joe Flacco was the the celebrity for whatever reason and he meant it was so funny
because Brad mentioned that Flacco had played it pit. I completely forgot about that that was such a long time ago we're talking about like more than 20 years ago he played it right but I mean media guys like us and I guess local fans we have long memories but I mean when you think about Joe Flacco at 41 playing for the Browns and the Ravens and the Bengals I mean he's basically played for every team in our division except for the Steelers do you think about him as a pit panther no not at all I don't either I don't either but I think that that is kind of crazy do you think he's got a point that somebody should have stepped up and hired Joe Flacco to be their starting quarterback this year in the NFL at 41 I mean he was good last year wherever whenever he played he was good he was fine I mean yeah he was fine I mean I don't know that any team was out there looking at him being your number one but I think a bunch of people are
like we maybe son Flacco to be on your team just in case we need a number one right I don't think that's a bad move how about this so the Bengals now of course they have Joe borough who's coming back from yet another injury and they've got Flacco as the backup there also they've also got Josh Johnson Josh Johnson has played for virtually every team he's going to be 40 in May so think about that has any team in the history of the NFL had the majority of their quarterbacks on the roster be over 40 seems like something the Raiders would have pulled off like like back when did they have land done didn't they have like like they have like Kramer and Vince Evans or something they had some pretty old quarterbacks at one time but yeah that's a very odd thing to see what was Vince Evans over 40 when he was playing for the Raiders maybe not I mean I always thought he was super old but I mean that was when I was younger so super old was a completely really old dude he's 35 years old so maybe he wasn't I have no idea I can find out if you keep talking so so Flacco's unhappy what how unhappy is he he's 41
years old he's making a lot of money he's still in the NFL he's Joe Flacco's living his best life right now oh I mean how could he not be you know but so let's see Vince Evans was 40 years old his last year in the league okay he played for the Raiders and he was 40 years old in 1995 okay well you know at that point we were probably looking at that situation when he was 40 years old how many other 40 year old quarterbacks that there had there been in the history of the NFL probably not that many I think Warren Moon maybe got up to well who knows the seat ages objective because at one point in time like 37 was ancient for a quarterback now we've seen a couple God well Brady and and Flacco now get into their for it well Aaron Rodgers on Aaron Rodgers you know so we see some guys breaking into their 40s yeah and they kind of change the rules a little bit right so it's a little easier to play the NFL now as opposed although I got to tell you was there quarterback during Evans's last couple years he was yeah hostile yeah well here's the other thing listen for people who say they'll put dresses on those guys you know man have you seen these dudes who are on defense
in the NFL I mean those guys have bad intentions man how many teams in the NFL now that the regular season is so long how many teams really have quarterbacks that can survive the entire season without getting hurt yeah that's true but I just I just I had that comment that he made about Flacco be and associated with pit I completely forgot about that I don't even at what point does something like that fall off a person I mean when you've been in the league like 20 years does anybody really care what college you played for it and see the thing is is like having pit fall off a person is only something that amount in your fan most other places like where do you go to college like they'll forget for the most one unless he unless you're a pit fan only a West Virginia fan and a pit fan cares I suppose that's true I suppose that's true all right let's get the let's get Tony Coreedy out here so Tony and I talked a little bit about WV women's basketball and a college basketball the coaching carousel earlier today on the show Tony Coreedy joins me now to talk
about the mountaineers and more Tony how you doing today I'm great Dave how are you well I want to start with the the the impact of the the WV women's basketball run in the NCAA tournament was this a one off in terms of fan interest and fans storming into the hope coliseum to see these games or is this really the start of something big what what's your take on that I think it's a little bit of both I don't think realistically you're going to put 13 14,000 people in there for a regular season game in November however I do think that it has opened up a whole new world for WV women's basketball and the test of time I think Mark Kellogg has passed it he now has three seasons at West Virginia he has won 25 games 25 games and 28 games and brought West Virginia's first sweet 16 since 1992 and I think that the emotion and the excitement that that all brought has to Dave
bring a bunch of new fans in and say to themselves I'm coming back now how many times do they come back in the course of a season remains to be seen but I just think you just built your base even larger and then again through the test of time if West Virginia can have this continued success where do they get to the point where they're hosting more and more than I do think that what you saw this past weekend and into Monday isn't isn't the exception as much as it is the rule well it was interesting to watch that game against Kentucky because Kentucky physically had bigger players but West Virginia's players were quicker it was a really really good game if West Virginia had won that game who's to say that they wouldn't have gone on a more serious and deeper run into the NCAA tournament and maybe to the final four for the women. Yeah it would have been hard I mean Texas is sitting there next and so they are absolutely you know among the very best teams in the nation it
would have been hard but Dave to your point you would have loved just to get the win so you can get the sweet 16 banner and have one to hang right and you just build off of that but I think that as you know when you build these things there are steps and there are there they're things and so he comes in and he puts West Virginia back into the NCAA tournament I know Dom Plitzer White did it her one season but he went out there and he puts themselves in position they get that game against Iowa at Iowa and Caitlin Clark and we all know how how that went and then last year North Carolina and Mark really just wanted to get this to the point where he's hosting he got to that point and I think the next point is to host and to not only win your first game but to win your second game and so sometimes there's painful steps along the road and I think we took a painful step on Monday by not getting the W but I think there are so many pluses and positives that have come out of his three years and then particularly this season Dave to win the big 12 tournament championship and
the way they did it and you know what also isn't being talked about a ton this team will forever be remembered by the Green Briar 5 that finished that game against Duke so I think that this group is going to have two iconic memories maybe more than that but you have your Green Briar 5 you have your big 12 tournament championship you have the largest a crowd in school history right there and and those two games on Saturday and on Monday and you're a whisker away from going to sweet 16 so this will be one of those forever teams that I think Mountaineer fans will remember talking about Tony Karidi about basketball let's talk about the sweet 16 for the men that gets going tomorrow there are three big 12 teams left Arizona will take on Arkansas Illinois will play Houston and then Iowa State is going to be playing on Friday night against Tennessee so last night we got the official word that Hubert Davis is out at North Carolina and so some of the names that are being
tossed about as possible next coaches in Chapel Hill are Tommy Lloyd from Arizona, Ozzelberger from Iowa State. What impact do you think the North Carolina coaching situation will have on those teams involved going forward? What do you think? Very minimal I think that we can sit here and say oh it's going to be a big deal I don't I don't see Tommy Lloyd moving Tommy Lloyd is a West Coast guy Tommy Lloyd has everything that he needs at Arizona he can be Arizona for a long time and be the one seed conversely if TJ Ozzelberger if they go outside of the North Carolina family he has a decision to make in the sense that how long can you do what he has done at Iowa State now he may say I can do it forever and as a result of that he'll stay put but realistically Iowa State over the long haul isn't going to do what North Carolina does it's just really super hard financially and for a bunch of different reasons so it may down the road that
may become viable for him he may consider that if they go toward him however Dave I think like right now it has zero to do with the bodies in their room and the team that they are they'll just going to continue to play these games it'll have no impact so it's going to be an interesting time in the in the triangle with North Carolina open and one of the worst kept secrets in the game right now is that will Wade's going to be leaving NC State to go back to LSU so the pack and the heels are those jobs are going to be open at the same time I wanted to ask you about Jared Calhoun so about two hours ago he was officially introduced as the new coach at Cincinnati since an ad he's a great basketball brand but they haven't been to the NCAA since a micron and left how much pressure do you think we'll be on Calhoun to get immediate results and get back to the tournament oh I think instantly I think that as you know they were sniffing around it this year and they just did not get it done I think that the immediate thing is in this day and age that you
go to the NCAA tournament because they will you know they'll they'll pay enough to get enough players to go to the tournament and in your in the league now that you know you're going to get seven eight teams in your conference which basically says you have to finish in your top half of your league so I think it's day the way players come in and out the days of building a team with freshmen and waiting to finish sophomores and then you hope done this is win right now and I think that's going to be the requirement you know what I was looking at some data about the North Carolina situation last night I didn't realize this you think it's easy there were 62 brand new head coaches in division one college basketball last year of the 62 new coaches only 11 went to the NCAA tournament hey Tony thanks for your time today I do appreciate it okay buddy always good talking with thanks guys all right Tony Karate joining us earlier today normally joins us every Wednesday at the bottom of the five o'clock hour we need to take a quick break we're coming back with more
in just a moment stay tuned this is hotline presented by Salango Law on Metro news the voice of West Virginia I'm Christine Lee C all 30 NBA owners voted in favor of exploring expansion in Las Vegas and Seattle a bidding process is expected to generate offers in the seven to 10 billion dollar range for each team the NBA is targeting the 2028 2029 season for the two expansion franchises to start playing the 2026 major league baseball season begins tonight in San Francisco where the Giants will host the Yankees Logan Webb and Max Fried New York's got the second best odds to win its first world series since 2009 trailing only the two-time defending champion Dodgers but one concern for the Yankees is that boomer bus lineup especially outside of Aaron Judge says ESPN MLB analyst Jessica Mendoza this lineup needs to be able to exist needs to be able to be a threat without their star and yes they have Cody Belinger and John Carlos Stanton and so many other
pieces around him but it's a lot of swing and miss and you need guys I mean it doesn't have to be your top four guys but when we talk six seven eight nine in that Yankees lineup they need to be able to manufacture runs to be able to put the ball and play get on base hits all the things that make you a complete team and right now the Yankees it's a lot of home runs. Jessica Mendoza on ESPN radios on sportsmen like Yankees A's Garrett Cole coming back from Tommy John surgery will start the season on the 15 day injured list rather than the 60 day IL he could make his season debut in late May or early June. Good evening everyone Dale Cooper with a check of traffic one this your favorite radio station we don't have any accidents to pass along right now it is a quiet evening as you're making your way home or wherever you're going right now 64-77-77 on term pipe report to avenue all reporting clear of accidents things are looking okay you just need to be careful headed wherever you're going. It's Dave Allen coming up on the next show it's opening day for the Reds we'll get into that plus Joe Stevens from the city of Nitro's here in Don Miller of Redaline West Virginia all right here boys the Charleston WCHS. All right just a relatively short segment here as we get ready to wrap this puppy up. Cooper's in my imagination or was this a quick one today seem like this one went by pretty quick. This is another one of those that yeah we're very fast. You know we had we we have the best listeners and we get so many interesting text messages and so we were talking a little bit earlier in the hour about my history was Salem College now Salem University and the fact that Salem is going to be joining the Mount East for men's
soccer next next year 2627 and I just briefly mentioned Archie Talley I got this text message 304-43 hey Dave in 1973 and 74 I had a work study job as the statistician for Salem's basketball team if you got some time someday and get bored I've got some great Archie Talley stories I would love to hear those I would love to hear those that 1974 season I think that for Salem that may have been their first year in the old in the T Edward Davis gymnasium and when I was in high school and we would watch a cable television from the company in Clarksburg video tape in that era was still pretty new okay they had a black and white video of the the game where Salem beat Fairmont at home that they used to just run over and over and over and that was an unbelievable era for Salem to up for for Fairmont as well Lerman battle was a multiple all-American player for the Falcons
and Salem won they beat Fairmont at the in the new gymnasium that's in new and at that time 50 years ago more than 50 years ago now and I remember watching that game and I would like to hear some of those stories about that but those would be good stories oh did you see where Naji Harris is visiting the Seahawks oh is he okay yeah so you know he had those thousand yard seasons for the Steelers and then he went to the Chargers and had that fireworks accident remember and that really didn't work out he's he's looking for a job would you like to see Naji play for Seattle you know um all they need is somebody to take some load off of Shabanae every once in a while not I thought Naji as a featureback you know he's one of these guys that that seemed like he you expected him to do more but he always got you like three and three in the third yards in a cloud of dust it seemed like you know like it was never he never really could hit the hold the way that you're expecting him to but maybe if he wasn't a featureback and he was a guy that was a change of pace that came in there that he would be useful for see in his defense those Steelers
offensive lines not great yeah Seattle's lines a lot better so who knows the other thing about you know our question the day had to do with the fact that today is sort of baseball opening day where the Yankees are playing the Giants in San Francisco tonight at eight o'clock on Netflix the NFL um announced the date and the time of their first game this fall earlier today the Seahawks the defending Super Bowl champs will host the opener that's tradition in the NFL it will be Wednesday a Wednesday September the ninth so Seattle will play on Wednesday September the ninth against a opponent to be named and then the very next day will be the game in Australia between the Rams and the Niners this was pretty interesting it was a pretty good fact from Profitball talk this is going to be the first time this the the NFL has opened the season on a Wednesday night since 2012 they they pushed the the opener between the Giants and the Cowboys back because they didn't want to have a conflict with the the end of the Democratic National Convention
that year oh that sounds weird right Wednesday night opener I don't know what Wednesday I guess there's a monetary point to it but I'm not sure what the point is we'll talk more about it tomorrow let's say quick break and we'll be back to wrap people sometimes may wonder why they need a big law firm after their injury imagine you're on your way to work and then bam your whole life changes life can be shattered in a moment when that happens know that America's largest injury law firm is here for you when it comes to law size matters Morgan and Morgan for the people dot com office 222 capital street Charleston pieces will be handled by West Virginia licensed attorneys the attorney in the sad is not licensed in West Virginia meet Morgan Jones Morgan is about to step into a world unknown to most thanks to progressives renters insurance a place of fresh linens and turn down service you see Morgan temporarily vacated her apartment and has gone to a hotel because a pipe burst in her apartment a pipe that made her sense of reality and apartment ceiling all come crashing down luckily Morgan checked into progressives protection zone
