Here in Charleston, a beautiful day. Temperatures in the mid-50s, lots of sunshine. Great way to start the weekend officially here in the mountain state. The weekend is blowing up while it's all on.

We're moving into March this weekend. Moving into the month of March. Isn't that crazy? Sounds pretty darn good.

2:03I'll take it. You know what I'm most sad to see go? I don't know if you noticed or not, but this month was a perfect grid. It started on a Sunday. It ends on a Sunday when you look at a calendar. It is a perfect four-sevenths. Nice. Yeah, yeah. It's like I've never seen that before. It's for my OCD. It was very nice. Hey, well, here's my problem. February is always short. So it's always like, what? We're moving into the next month already. I know, man. So here we go. One day closer to baseball season. Yeah, I'm speaking to that. Man, there is so much stuff going on today. Stay on top of everything. Let me get, we got Brad Howe coming on in just a sec. From Sportsline to talk about WVU basketball. Big game tomorrow with BYU. At the Hope Coliseum, we'll get into that. I promise. But let me just get you caught up on some of the things that we haven't talked about. First, martial women's softball. They swept a double header today from Yukon. They win the first game, five to four, second game. They win three to one. That game was tied at one in the seventh inning when Hayley Atkins hit a home run to put

3:03the herd in front. Two to one. They win that game. Three to one WVU baseball this afternoon. They are playing at Kennesaw state in Georgia. The Old Golden Blue put up a crooked number to the tune of six runs in the top of the third inning. And now they've moved to the top of the fourth. Virginia's leading six nothing in that game. Marshall's home opener is this afternoon and they are leading Butler four to two in the top of the seventh inning. Butler have a pair of runners on the on the bases right now high school basketball. This afternoon in Wheeling, the number one team in class AA Wheeling Central is hosting the number four team in Quade Washington. This is a game that only tip like 40 minutes ago. It was a game where Washington built a ten point lead at the end of the first quarter. It was 17 to seven Wheeling Central has come storming back there at half time now and Wheeling Central leads that game by two thirty seven thirty five. All right. A question of the day. Question of the day.

4:03What did I respond to this? Backseat driving ranks is the most irritating passenger habit for American drivers. 42% cited as their top annoyance. The study found drivers can tolerate an annoying passenger behavior for 13 minutes on average, leaving trash behind complaining about driving, eating messy food, shouting, watch out unnecessarily round out the top five irritating habits. Oh, but there's more, oh, but there's more changing the music without permission, putting feet on the dashboard, not offering gas money, patience, varies by generation. Only 16% of Gen Z staying quiet about irritating behavior compared to 30% for baby boomers who ignore such conduct entirely. It's free. Just walk on in. All right. So let's talk about the game tomorrow. We're going to about WVU's path to the NCAA tournament yesterday on the show. I want to get you a take. Is it conference tournament championship or bust or can West Virginia still build a case for an at large bit? Yeah, I think your margin for air is really gone. This was a tough week, obviously, the last three games that West Virginia dropped probably put you on the outside of this conversation. But again, I think there's still life. If you're a 10 and 18 in this league, I think it's going to be a great day.

7:04It's going to be hard to keep you out. That's what West Virginia would be if it won its last three games. It would be a great start tomorrow to be able to get BYU, even in their depleted state with no Richie Saunders. That'd be a great win for the mountaineers. But I think at this point, Dave, the NCAA talk is down the road. You've just got to try it. Find your way back into the winning column, as I mentioned, with the three tough losses over the last three games. You know, it was a real, there's a really nice piece at the WVU sports.com website today by John Antonic about a previous number one overall picks that have played in the Hope Coliseum. In fact, the first one he mentions is Austin Carr, Carr from Notre Dame in 1971. I was at that game. My dad took me to that game. I remember that game. Cooper, remember the late Levi Phillips used to talk about this all the time. He guarded Austin Carr in that game. So AJ DeBanza, what a load he is for BYU. This is talking a little bit about the challenge he presents and how West Virginia can try to shut him down. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if he can shut him down.

8:04I think your only hope is to try and slow him down and slow him down. They still be getting 22 to 24 points. Fantastic. And if he's not the, if Darren Peterson isn't number one pick, it's got to be DeBanza here. I think he's just absolutely fantastic because he brings some size with it to six, nine, can handle the ball, can be a distributor. He can step outside and hit the three. They've been going to more picking roles with him now that Richie Saunders is out. So he's been taking the ball to the basket even a little bit more than he was. So there, there's just not enough superlatives to talk about how talented he is. And that's certainly at the top of the Scouter report for West Virginia is you just try and make it difficult on him again. He's going to get his points. He's gotten his points in every game this season leading the nation and scoring. So you just have to make it as difficult as possible. Make him hit some tough shots on you and try and contain everybody else. The best you can, but yeah, he's fantastic. So if you're a college basketball fan, it's a great chance to get a look at what will be the number one or number two pick, I would say. So tempo has been a big topic for WVU this year that tempo was part of the game trying

9:09to limit the opponent possessions in the in the disappointing loss and still water earlier this week. Oklahoma State was able to speed West Virginia up a little bit and they were able to get the ball up and down the floor. What is BYU's offensive tempo like? Do they want to run? Are they happy to play in the half court? What are the Cougars trying to do when they get the ball? Yeah, they're going to push it. They're an offensively based team, top 11 national offensive efficiency. So it's going to be another battle of styles and contrasting styles and I think that's good for West Virginia. That's what you want. If you go back to Oklahoma State, certainly you're right. That's scored and not end up where West Virginia wanted it. It does not want to play games in that range. But in the first half, believe it or not, they were on pace for exactly where they ended, took them over time to get there. There were 46 points in the first half, but it was only 31 possessions. So it was right in the wheelhouse of where West Virginia wants it from a possession standpoint in that low 60s, but Oklahoma State was just so efficient. West Virginia's defense wasn't ready to go out of the gate and that's really what led that score to get out of hand.

10:09Tomorrow, it's kind of the same thing. If that score is being suppressed and you're able to control the pace of that game, that's when West Virginia wins games and we'll go over some numbers later that they dive into that. West Virginia milks the clock and it's normally a thing we talk about in football. When West Virginia wins time of possession day, believe it or not, it is a basketball. It ends up winning games four and one when it does that. So it's important for West Virginia to control the clock and get shots late in the shot clock and then force BYU to have to work for it. Do you think there's any tips that the mountaineers could take from the UCF, the feet at BYU, the other nine? They just dominated BYU on their home floor and UCF really hasn't been that great of a road team. What did you see F due to BYU that West Virginia can maybe use tomorrow afternoon? Well, if West Virginia will start 11 from 16 from 3 like UCF did in the first half, that's probably a good start, isn't it, they were just so blistering hot and got out to that

11:09giant lead led by 36 was 16 to go in the second half. I said last night on Ross go to show that was one of the more stunning stats of the college basketball season. I think that UCF was a very good team but was able to go into that building and be up by that much on a BYU team that was some expected to contend for a big 12 title this year. So I don't know if you can replicate anything exactly. UCF plays a style similar to BYU and can really score it when they get going. I think if you're West Virginia, it's a totally different ballgame. You're going to try and win this with your defense, slow them down, get back on the defensive glass because if there's two areas that have switched over the last three games that have contributed to these losses, it's the free throw rate for the opposing team and it's offensive rebounds for the opposing team. West Virginia coming into the Utah game was leading the big 12 in both of those categories and all three of the last three opponents have found success in getting themselves to the free throw line and getting on the offensive glass. So West Virginia's got to reverse those two categories.

12:10If it does, I think you're in for a game tomorrow. I got about a minute here, but it did want you to address in the lost Oklahoma state. One of the bright spots for West Virginia was the fact that Huff and Eagle staff got back to their scoring ways. Eagle staff especially played much better at the offensive. It was very aggressive, but part of that day, a lot of open shots against that Oklahoma state defense. West Virginia was was basically getting whatever it wanted offensively for the bulk of that game. But yes, it was great to see both of those guys in particular bounce back. It was the first double digit three point made game since the air is on a state game. So I think the mountaineers needed that. They needed a little confidence boost and they're certainly going to have to be making shots tomorrow. So yeah, I was happy to see honor knocks six down and move himself into fourth place all time, single season may freeze and two is within shouting distance this weekend if he has another big day. So we'll certainly be keeping an eye on that. Frank Young still has the record, right? He won't get there. That's hard to get to. I don't know if honor is going to have to get to get hot for the rest of the year and then play some post season games.

13:12Frank is at the top. He played 37 games in that 2007 season and was just unbelievable. So catching him maybe a tall order. All right. Let's take a quick break. We'll come back. He pleads for passengers to dress for the respect, encouraging travelers to wear jeans and a decent shirt instead of slippers and pajamas. Tampa's airport also going after crocs. We've seen enough. We've had enough urging visitors to help Tampa become the first croc free and pajama free airport wearing crocs and pajamas on planes in or out of it. This is this is number one. But if he is in the lineup on opening day, he'll be the first position player in baseball history to start since one soda was a teenager. He'll be the first to play an opening day and he'll be the youngest player to play on opening day. Since Ken Griffey, Jr. in 1989, Connor Griffin, Koop, in a row, Dave, I want to do a huge favor. Other skies over Charleston will have more on acu other after the news transfer of Logan Elementary students to Logan Middle is underway as district officials planned for students to be back in person next week after a fire damaged their school last Saturday.

24:26Logan County Schools communication director Troy Alexander said they are planning to have an open house on Tuesday, March 3 and students will return the following day. He says they anticipate students will finish out the school year in the middle school. After they get everything clean up, you know, there's there's a hole in the roof that they have to deal with and making sure the electrical is all up to standard after being exposed to the heat, water damage. So there's a lot going on Alexander also said they're going to ensure that middle schoolers and elementary school students are kept separate from each other. The Senate is taking steps to regulate the sale of vaping products that you just year a committee passed the bill that would create the vape safety act to ensure there is more oversight over the shops that are primarily targeting kids. Bay County Senator Elliott Pritt who is also a teacher says they confiscate several vape cartridges daily from students. I do bathroom duty in our school and I will tell you what walking into the bathroom after between every class changes like strawberry fields and blueberry haze every single

25:27day. The legislation now heads to the full Senate and health path a mental health clinic in Charleston is set to reopen this weekend.
