1:00We hope you're having a good day, beautiful day. Here in Charleston, 55 degrees outside. Hopefully going to be a really nice weekend. We've got a lot of stuff to get into in this particular hour. We'll take a peek at what happened in the financial markets today. What a weird week on Wall Street. We'll reset our question of the day. It's Friday at four o'clock. That means buy or sell. The entertainment report around 425 this afternoon. Beer Friday with Pat Strader at 433. We'll open up the on the state file at 450. The five things to know at five o'clock in sports. About 50, 51 minutes away, five o'clock hour. Brad Howe from SportsLino B here. We'll talk about Mountaineer basketball. WV Big Basketball game tomorrow against BYU. Interided 525 Aristotle Jones at 533 with another episode of Sounds Good West Virginia. Capital report with Jeff Jenkins at 540. And then more of your responses to our question of the day. And we'll hit the door at six o'clock. That sounds like a lot. Then that sounds like a lot, man. It sounds like a lot to the business. That's a volume volume volume. That's what we're in here.

2:00Let's go ahead and start with what happened in the financial markets today. So today tech was down. The Dow was down over 700 points, but came back a bit. Still down 1% today losing 521 points, 48,977. S&P 500 was down 1 1 1 1% lost almost 30 points today, 68,78. NASDAQ was down 1% losing 211 points. NASDAQ closing a 22,668. Among stocks, a local interest to West Virginia that were big percentage gainers or losers today. No regional banks big money center banks. Taking it on the chin today. Fit third bank was down 5.4%. Lost $2.79 $49.18 at the close today. There were a few places to hide. You know, energy is doing well. A lot of the energy stocks are being buffered up with the situation in the Middle East. Nice source was up 1.2% gain 56 cents today.

3:0347.26 at the close north or Grumman defense stocks. Obviously doing well up 2.1% today gaining $14.73,729. 63 at 4 o'clock on Wall Street in the energy space. Oil up 3.3%. Tacked on $2.13 WTI in the 9x. Closed at $67.34. That's the highest level since last October. Nat gas was up 1.2%. It's a snapshot up 4% right now trading at $2.86 per unit. 5:09Wow. Yeah, I got you. I mean, I drive all the time by myself and it works out fine. Yes, just fine. Just fine. All right, our contestants slash victims are all in their places. So what do you say we have another episode of buyer cell? Buyer cell, we were thinking every Thursday, when Amy Smith from Investors Business Daily comes on the show at 506 to talk about buying and selling stocks in the financial markets. Why don't Koop and I do a segment where we use the same idea for sports, music, pop culture and more. So that's what we're doing today. Let's get started with buyer cell. Is it Koop, you have a true Koop that Ryan has clips? I heard that Ryan has clips for the same media for this segment. Well, let's start with you. We'll bring it. All right, Dave, have you heard of concept unification? Concept unification. I don't believe I have. Now, it sounds like a piece of business jargon, but concept unification is actually an event that took place in the early 90s.

6:15It was a, it was in a corporate initiative where all locations of showbiz pizza time incorporated transferred and morphed into what we now know as chucky cheese. Oh, nice. Little history lesson, showbiz pizza time was its own chain of animatronic pizza arcade restaurants that was rivaling chucky cheese. And basically, chucky cheese bought them out as the only competitor and for an employee of showbiz pizza time, what do you think would happen? Well, let's listen to the clip and see like, how an employee is instructed on this, uh, this conversion event. With your prep work now complete, it's time to begin the installation process. First, remove all props such as two-choose tree,

7:16Billy Bob's lamp, Billy Bob's campfire, lever's can, all rocks and flowers, and destroy all of these props as they will not be used again. That last part is the key. Wow, I did not see that one though. Wow, destroy all props as they will never be used again. They must be incinerated. Wow, and the only reason that any animatronics from this franchise still exist is because of dedicated collectors who keep them in their private collections. Chucky cheese made no effort to preserve any trace of evidence that their competitor ever existed. It's, it is an erasure of animatronic pizza place history day. This is like Coke-bime Pepsi and covering up all the labels with Coke. Exactly, it's, it's, and it's not just that.

8:16It's almost as if it's like, oh, Pepsi never existed. Showbiz pizza in place? No, no, what are you talking about? There's only been Chucky cheese. That's so funny. That's like if the, uh, when the ABA merged some teams with the NBA, if they took all the red, white, and blue basketballs and burned them. Yeah, that's so crazy happening. So by yourself, there should be a dedicated foundation to preserving this obscure history. I'll take this first. Go, go, go, go. I will say that there should be a dedicated foundation to preserving this type of history. No, they're okay. Okay, there you go. Nicely done. So I think that there's a place for it. I don't know about specifically for so Tom pizza place extravaganza. Showbiz pizza place ninja star, whatever it's called. I don't know specifically for that one, because that's very niche. I mean, that's super, super niche. But if you take people that like that sort of things and create a niche,

9:19whatever it is, museum or whatever it might be, I could see where that would go with very well. I've been to some very strange museums and big cities. They, they, they, they cover a lot of ground. You know what? I'm going to sell this because, if, yeah, if you took a child to a Chucky cheese and it's like, what's that plaque on the wall? Flowers and rocks from like a previous previous competitor. How would you explain that to like a five-year-old? You would set a party. You would tell them that it's part of history, Dave. And also, it's part of heritage. I know that none of you have been there, but there's a, there is a pinball museum in Detroit where you can go in and play with all this stuff. And it's like three levels of all the, everything from like the 1930s up through modern day. It's an arcade museum. And if you could go in and actually mess around with this stuff, you could take your kids there and be part of it. I'm going to sell this just because I am fighting for the black market. Where's the black market going to get their stuff here, if there is preservation society? Yeah, but there's only a finite amount of it, right? Right. Okay, it's like, oh, the other has been destroyed for repurposed into Chucky cheese and electronics.

10:22It's kind of like Bitcoin, right? I mean, there's only a finite amount of it. All right, Matt, what do you know about this? All right, so I have a friend, female friend who has disclosed to me where I would find her. If at any point in her life, she decided to fake her own death. I cannot tell you where it is, but I know. And it's, it's somewhere. So you do a quick Google search and you will actually find endless links with tips and tricks on how to disappear in your life and have a completely fresh start, including like how to erase your digital footprint, getting rid of your possessions, how to do cash banking, all of that. It's all there. And for whatever reason, as the millennial of this bunch here, it seems to be we're all kind of middle age that might be the problem, but it's, it's notoriously millennials that are talking about this. Guys, buy yourself. Already knowing exactly where you'd go if you ever faked your death.

11:25Well, I thought I was going to fake my death. I think I'd have to know this. I have to, you have to have a plan. So in that sense, I have to buy it. I have to buy it. But man, it is really, it is really, really difficult to, to erase a digital footprint. Yes. It's really, really hard. Yep. But I'm going to buy it. Okay. It's going to start with a so security card, so security number somewhere. If you can get a few and start there, you can get to do a lot of things. This sounds like someone who's done a lot of research. Well, I just want to say that, that I think a lot of this probably started in some mid editions or later editions of the anarchist cookbook, which was a famous document that was circulating from the 70s into the 80s. And if you were into BBSs in the 80s before internet became a thing, that was one of the things, oh, they have a copy of the anarchist cookbook, which taught you to do things like squirt, salt, water, into vending machines and you could get quarters out of it. And stuff like that. I mean, I wouldn't know. I just heard that those things were in it. I just heard about all of these things. But anyway, I mean, look, I'm not so sure that, I mean, most people have had this fantasy at some point,

12:25even if just a mental exercise from it, and hey, what if I could just disappear, start all over somewhere, and nobody knows? And I got to be in a little bit. I mean, not now. I have a family that's like I'm taking with me, but I can see it. You know, in Japan, there are a few firms that do this similar practice, where they say if someone works for like a bad company and they want to get out, they'll hire the firm to not only help them quit, but help them like move to a different town and maybe not set them up with a new identity, but just like, break ties basically. Interesting. And so I think that there is definitely a market for this. As far as like knowing specifically, where you would go after faking your death, personally, I'm a guy that likes to plant roots and not move around much. So like, it might be down the street somewhere, but sure, I'd know. Could be a former church. Just walk around everywhere, talking about your former stuff all the time. You remember that young lad, Ryan,

13:26I just looked around. What ever happened, right? What ever happened to Ryan? He was like a superhero. Yeah, he lived just down the street, didn't he? Oh, that's funny. All right, Cooper, what do you got? All right, you want me to go next? Okay, I'm going to read off some things here. This will only take me for a second here. So let's start with software. Microsoft Office Adobe Creative Suite, like Photoshop and Illustrator, TurboTax, QuickBooks, moving on to some entertainment things, music in general, songs and albums, movies and TV shows, video games, video games as well. If you talk about some things in automotive, I'm talking about maybe heated seats and remote starts, home and lifestyle type things, maybe light bulbs, and in the professional area, stock photos, fonts, video editing software, like a Final Cut Pro and things along those lines, and technology and gaming, gaming consoles, and software updates beyond the initial purchase. What do all of those things have in common? They need computer chips. Anybody else? They can be really annoying sometimes.

14:28I've Microsoft. Impacted by AI. These are all things that now require subscriptions that not too long ago, we could just purchase outright. So, buy or sell today. There are all things that we once had to pay for once and own, or wait a minute, let me try that again. Buy or sell. The most insane thing to happen in consumerism in the last five to 10 years is how we just accept that we now can buy or own so much less and instead pay lifetime subscriptions for products and services we could once own at a fraction of the lifetime cost. I'm going to buy this. I'm going to buy this. The subscription economy is not going back. And I mean, you talked about a doby Photoshop. I mean, how many of those people were spending like $506 a year to get updated stuff? Now you can just pay 10 bucks a month and you're on your way.

15:28I'm going to buy it. Well, with Adobe, you could buy this software and you paid for the updates. Now you have to pay, it's not $10 a month. It's like $49.99 a month forever. You know, back in the day, it used to be free to set up like an online server for multiplayer video games. And then some guy at Xbox was like, why do we charge $5 a month for this? And thus, Xbox Live was born. And now every company has a online subscription model for multiplayer services, which is stupid because it costs a fraction of a dollar to maintain. And they don't even give it to you in your household. Exactly, like you can't even get a household subscription. You have to buy one for everybody in your house. Yeah, so it's predatory. I don't like it. I'll buy, but if metronaut switches to a subscription model, I'll take it all back. Yeah, right, right. I got to buy this too. You know, last night, I was downloading a kind of pirate remake

16:31of Winamp that works on like modern macOS because I'm a mac guy. I'm an Apple guy. So I love Winamp. I love it too. And there was like an old skins library and everything. Oh, yeah. So I'm actually like really trying to get away from all the subscription stuff. I'm even thinking about buying a modded iPod and actually buying digital files again and getting rid of subscription streaming service. Think it about it. There's plenty iPods around. And then I'm going to hop on a plane and if I fake my death, don't be surprised. The iPod might be one of the best single pieces of technology that has ever been invented. I mean, honestly, that thing was amazing. And the phone stuff is terrible now. The online stuff is terrible now. It's up here to how customizable the iPod was. Unless you're streaming and listening to us right now. Yes. It's like, yeah, yeah, that's gross. I also needed to save my job. There you go. Boys, that's it. That's all we've got time for. 18:33even though the US has scheduled more talks with Iran next week about its nuclear program. Satellite imagery shows Iran conducting regular and unexplained activity at bombed out uranium enrichment sites according to the US. And that's complicating those talks. And that's also sending oil prices ahead more than 2%. Crude is hovering just under $67 a barrel. Demand for turbo tax software is decent. As we get into the thick of tax prep season, that's according to turbo tax owner into it. But some of its other products. Notably its email marketing business mail chimp are underperforming. That's led into it to issue a forecast for current quarter earnings below Wall Street's forecasts. And Yogaware maker Lulu Lemon is embroiled in a fight for control of the company. Its founder, Chip Wilson, who already pushed to name three new members to the board is now pushing for more stock and Lulu Lemon lost almost half its value last year amid sales misses and product missteps. I'm Morgan Pemberton inside the 580 WCHS radio newsroom. It's sunny skies over Charleston, who are more on AccuWeather after the news. Govante White, the man accused of killing two Huntington men last week, appeared in front of a magistrate in Stark County, Ohio, where he waved extradition back to West Virginia. He will be brought back to Cowell County to face two counts of first degree murder. A bill moving through the state senate would bring the death penalty back to West Virginia in limited cases. Senate Bill 1037 would allow prosecutors to seek the death penalty in cases where an adult perpetrator is convicted of first degree murder and first degree sexual abuse of a child

24:42under 12th. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday evening. Jackson County Sheriff Ross Melinger testified to the bill's behalf, saying simply certain offenders cannot be rehabilitated. I don't want to minimize other victims of sexual assault. And please don't mistake that for this, but this is different. These types of people do not rehabilitate. Canaw County Senator Kevin Bartlett says he felt compelled to sponsor this bill. I'm saddened, but I feel responsibility to bring this bill to our committee. Marion County Senator Joey Garcia argued against the bill, saying he's proud West Virginia does not allow the death penalty. After passing the committee, the bill was referred to the Senate Finance Committee for further consideration. I'm Daniel Woods, 580 WCHS. The House of Delegates approving a bill this afternoon that will put restrictions on vape shops when it comes to signage and other attractions. Supporters say the bill is aimed at the bad actors in vape shops. Canaw County Delegate Hollis Lewis supports the bill. These signage are to attract children. If that's your intended purpose, then again, we as a body need to do something about that.

25:44These products, any stores, how they're labeled and how they're marketed, is about attracting children. Much of news, acutely the forecast says plenty of sun this afternoon. Marshall enters tonight's play in a four-way tie atop the league standings with Appalachian State, South Alabama, and Troy. Tip time in Huntington is set for 9 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 2. The Marshall women's basketball team will host Georgia's Southern at 6 p.m., seven seniors will be honored, including state natives, Peyton, Elderton, and Meredith Mayer. The herd is 23 and 7 overall and 13 and 4 in Sunbelt play. Marshall was in a three-way tie for third with Arkansas State and James Madison. The Sunbelt tournament will open up on Tuesday. You remember the housey and days with Pat Strader back in the day when our relationship was still fresh, you would pull off the bike trail and call us from the middle of the woods. Take his little bike helmet off and ring us on his satellite phone. Pretty amazing stuff. Yeah. That's good. That's good. All right, Pat. Let's get into it. Yeah. Let's start with box hops. What's American ale? Tell me about that. Really interesting. I'm glad to see this. They call this an American ale, and this is brew, the base of this recipe is corn.

30:03You know, a lot of times, you know, most of the craft breweries are using barley, but the corn is something that you find in most domestic, you know, American beers. And so, for those that are kind of interested in, you know, maybe trying some craft beer, which you're a little maybe intrepid heading in there. This would be a really nice way to experience some craft beer and just trying to compare it and contrast it to like the commercialized versions, but this thing clocks it at 5.6%. They describe it as low bitterness and a clean flavor, and it's the name says, I mean, this is just, you know, straight up American style beer. That sounds pretty good. Fox hop. Yeah. You'll find it at 25 Bo String Lane right there in Elkins. And it'll be a great day to drop in there for one of those American ale and maybe have it with your pizza burger. Yeah. That might be the plan. So Pat, what are you using for bait? I mean, we always talk about you and the smoker. What are you throwing out there on the other day? Well, Dave, I'm a hopeless fly fisherman and so I've got some little grief of snacks

31:07that I'm throwing out there and tomorrow pull out probably something even smaller than that smidge is for the Brookies, but yeah, I, you know, I try to make things hard on myself. So I try to fly for days. All right. Fair enough. Fair enough. Hey, you know, we're always interested in updates on how craft beer places are doing around the state. The ones that are getting fired up, what's going on? You got a little business update for us today. Yeah. You know, a couple of listeners that asked a while back and I'm going to continue to give updates on Earth's brew works as I find them. Right. And they posted, this week, I can't remember exactly which day, there's no date that I have seen at least, but you know, they are being very upfront in the fact that, you know, we're trying really hard to get things taken care of. They've been experiencing weather delays and some installation delays and just things that are just really frankly kind of typical for, you know, getting a brewery up and running. There's so many moving parts, but they are working really hard and man, these pictures

32:07are going to be a fantastic space and if the beer is even half as good as the place looks, I think we're going to have a winner in your day. That sounds good. Sounds good. Hey, let's have a little bit of an update on just the craft beer business in general. Have we sort of peaked here? Is it becoming more of a mature business? What's the latest on that? You know, and this has been a topic that we've discussed a few times, you know, even just recently about, you know, is the bus here. And I saw this article and I'm foreshadowing here just a little bit, but I saw this piece and I saw this really interesting and it is a real testament to the quality of not only the beer that's being made here in West Virginia, but the people that are running the breweries. You know, I think that we need to give them cutos and continue to support them because we're just talking about Fox Tops, which is one of the newest breweries here in the state is not being newest and then we talk about versus and it's going to be opening soon. Well, this is not happening everywhere, Dave. We are very fortunate here in West Virginia.

33:08And in fact, the craft beer industry has experienced a downturn that is, you know, frankly historic since the boom. And in fact, 434 breweries shut their doors in 2025. That is significant. Not only that, Dave, the craft beer volume as a whole being sold is down 5% just year over year. And either, you know, for those that are interested in business and everything, I mean, you understand how this works. I mean, this is a really significant downward pressure once our breweries, but you know what is here in West Virginia, our breweries are thriving. We've got, again, Fox Tops is pretty new and earth is coming along. So kudos to our in-state brewers. You know what though? I mean, this is an interesting topic. Just like in any other business, it's survival of the fittest, right? You send me the stats about craft beer breweries overall in the United States. The numbers are a little bit down since 2023, but this is, this is not unique to just craft

34:13beer breweries. I mean, beer sales in general nationally are down and spirits in general are down as well. A lot of these stocks are not doing well. You're right. Yeah. It is across the board, but again, I guess, you know, I'm just fixing on the fact that, you know, our brewers and, you know, in fact, our dissilvers here are doing really quality. They're putting out quality products and they're thriving, Dave. Yeah, that's great. That's good news. All right. What's, you got a little news on Big Timber. Yeah. This is one of my favorite beers from Big Timber. This is called Tate Smash. Now, this is a big, barely sicker of a beer, clotting 13%, but they described this as everything you love about German chocolate cake, okay? So they brew this based out. They use toasted pecans, a lactose, which they add to the, to the, the brew kettle, which really kind of smoothed out the quote unquote, mouthfeel.

35:14And then they condition this on cocoa nids, vanilla beans, toasted coconut and coffee beans. There's a whole lot going on here, but I can tell you, this is one of my favorite beers. If you haven't tried it yet, you see it, you know, go easy with it, but give it a try. It sounds crazy, but it is fantastic. All right. That's Big Timber. Of course, there also over in Elkinsett at two, a Davis drop. We got one more step. Oh, we got a couple more stops here. What's the latest on abolitionist? Yeah. So, you know, I know we talk about abolitionists every week, but they are just cranking out new beers all the time. And they have a new brown IPA. And I've got to be honest with you, Dave, I'm not sure if I've ever even heard of a brown IPA, but if abolitionists made it, I know it's going to be good. They just, they talk about this being a blend of six different hops, but also with top my attention, Dave, that canard. Uh-huh. Yeah. Yeah, man. Yeah. It's really good. Yeah.

36:15That is really, really good. Hey, well, Pat, I appreciate you coming off the river for a little while. By the way, how cold is the water? So your flyfish and no boat involved, right? Yeah. No, no, no. I mean, it's all maybe a little casty about here, not too bad, it's just a beautiful day to be on the creek. What about the rest of the fam? I mean, do they like, do they like the fish? What about your daughter? She'd like to go out with you? Oh, she used to. You know, she's got more important things to do than hanging out with her old man now, but, uh, yeah, my wife Lisa is here and our little pup, so we're going to make a weekend of it. All right. Uh, what's the plan for dinner? Are you cooking? Are you going out? Oh, I'm just cooking, you know, up here. I'm up in Hacker Valley days. There's not a whole population to go out of here. All right. 47:391959, the Chicago Cardinals trade Olly Mattson to the Rams for nine players. We're real dogs. The Mattson trade was one of several unusual personnel decisions. We dragged the quarterbacks from Ohio State one year, number one. And we said, oh, super boy, we needed a quarterback, badly, and I'd be in a receiver. I wish we'd get somebody to get the ball to me. And lo and behold, the fellas showed up and started throwing a ball. And he couldn't get the ball 15 yards down the field. And we found out the reason they drafted him because they liked his picture in the street and smith. They had nice legs and looked well proportioned. Looks like a real football player. Also on the state 1966 at Daytona, Richard Petty is on the pole. And he comes from two laps down to win the event. Great come back with a bonus. They were barred last year with their heavy heads. And here they are winning the first major race of 1966.
