William Clayton

Clerk and Confidant of Joseph Smith

William Clayton was a clerk and confidant of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter-day Saint movement. He served as a scribe for Smith's writings, including the Book of Mormon, and was a participant in many of the most controversial events of Mormon history. Clayton was born in 1809 and died in 1893. He is considered one of the most important eyewitnesses to the life and teachings of Joseph Smith.
