Valerie Byrd Fort is a librarian at the University of South Carolina. She has been a vocal advocate for intellectual freedom and has fought against book bans in her community. Her efforts have helped establish the state's first-ever book challenge policy. Valerie holds an MLIS degree from the University of Tennessee and is a past president of the SC Library Association.
