Librarians Honored for Community Impact

0:00On April 6, 10 librarians across the country just snagged the I Love My Librarian Award for their standout work and communities. Each gets $5,000 plus a $750 stipend to hit the American Library Association's Convention in Chicago from June 25th to 29th. These winners came out of more than 1,300 nominations from everyday folks who shared stories of how their librarians changed. Lives or stepped up big for the public. ALA President Sam Helmick called them out for powering possibility in neighborhoods, schools, and colleges through leadership and fresh ideas that boost learning, health, and community vibes. Standouts include Valerie Bird, Fort Fighting Book Bands at the University of South Carolina, Chowandow set mentoring bio-meggrads and Massachusetts. And Marianne Russo turning a dingy basement into a family hub in Ohio. Others like Tracy Fitzmarise transformed rural libraries and Debsick a champion diversity out west.
