Thomas Midgley Jr was a chemical engineer and inventor who worked for General Motors. He is best known for inventing the modern gasoline additive tetraethyl lead. Midgley was a prolific inventor and held over 100 patents. He was also a pioneer in the field of leaded gasoline. Midgley was born in 1889 and died in 1944. He is remembered as one of the most important inventors of the 20th century.
