Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was a Nepalese mountaineer and explorer who, along with Sir Edmund Hillary, became the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. He was born in 1914 in the Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal and died in 1986. Tenzing was a member of the Sherpa people and was known for his bravery and endurance.
