Augustine of Hippo was a Christian theologian and philosopher. Born in 354 AD in Thagaste, North Africa, he became a bishop in Hippo Regius and wrote extensively on theology, philosophy, and biblical studies. His Confessions is considered one of the most important works of early Christian literature. Augustine is known for his synthesis of Platonic and Aristotelian thought with Christian theology.
