Katsushika Hokusai

Renowned Japanese ukiyo-e artist

Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist and ukiyo-e printmaker. He is best known for his woodblock prints, particularly 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'. Hokusai was born in 1760 and died in 1849. He was active during the Edo period and was known for his innovative and influential works. Despite being born into a family of artists, Hokusai struggled financially and was forced to rely on the support of his patrons.
