Juan de Herrera was a Spanish architect and royal architect of Spain. He was born in 1502 in Valladolid, Spain. He studied architecture in Salamanca and later in Italy. He became the royal architect of Spain in 1539 and worked on several projects, including the construction of El Escorial.
