John Frederick was the Elector of Saxony from 1547 to 1572. He was a member of the Wettin dynasty and played an important role in the history of Germany. He was a strong supporter of the Protestant Reformation and worked to promote the interests of his state. He was also a skilled military leader and fought against the Catholic Habsburgs.
