Ibn Taymiyya was a 13th-century Islamic scholar and theologian. He was born in Harran, Syria and studied Islamic law and theology at the University of Damascus. Ibn Taymiyya was known for his critiques of Sufism and his advocacy for a more literal interpretation of the Quran.
