George Stevenson was a Scottish engineer and locomotive builder. He was born in 1780 in Melton Mowbray, England. Stevenson was a skilled engineer and inventor who designed and built several steam locomotives. He is best known for designing the Invicta, the world's first steam-powered passenger locomotive.
