Frederik Willem de Klerk

Frederik Willem de Klerk was the last president of apartheid-era South Africa. He served as president from 1989 to 1994 and played a key role in the country's transition to democracy. De Klerk was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his efforts to end apartheid and establish a democratic government in South Africa. He is also known for his role in the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in 1990. De Klerk has written several books on politics and history, including his memoirs. He currently lives in Cape Town, South Africa.
