Douglas Hofstadter is an American cognitive scientist, linguist, and mathematician. He was born in 1945 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA. Hofstadter is best known for his work on the foundations of artificial intelligence, the nature of consciousness, and the limits of language. His book Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid explores the connections between these areas.
