Count Ugolino was an Italian nobleman and poet who is best known for his role in Dante's Divine Comedy. He was a member of the Guelph family and was imprisoned in the tower of Arezzo, where he was forced to eat his own children to survive. Ugolino's story has become a symbol of the cruelty and injustice of the medieval period.
