James Francis Edward Stuart, commonly known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, was the grandson of James II of England and VII of Scotland. He was a military leader and royal claimant to the British throne. Born in 1720, Charlie was educated in France and Italy before returning to Scotland to lead the Jacobite rising of 1745.
