Annie Besant was a British suffragette and social reformer who fought for women's rights and workers' rights. She was a key figure in the match girls' strike of 1888 and was known for her passionate speeches and writings. Besant was also a prominent figure in the Theosophical Society and was a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi. She is remembered as a pioneering figure in the fight for social justice.
