Zappa Sixty-Six: Unheard Freak-Outs from 1966

A new collection called Zappa 66 Volume 1, live at TTG Studios, hits shells on May 15th. It's 17 tracks from 1966, with 16 never heard before, straight from his massive vault. This drops on the alternative records label, the first released there since 2016 Chicago 1978. It captures the mothers of invention right after their debut Freakout album, during a wild session between that and absolutely free. The recordings come from a TV special on the LA Rock scene, filmed at the same Hollywood studio, where Freakout got made. Zappa and the crew laid it down on his own reel-to-real machine, giving us a raw peak into their early freakouts. You'll hear the only known take with guitarist Dale Cashier, plus the earliest recordings of percussionist Billy Mundy, and keyboardist Don Preston, joining the band.
