You know, I've been thinking a lot lately about success, about what it really means to win in life, and I've come to a conclusion that might surprise you. You've already won a lot. Yes, you heard that right. You, sitting there right now, have already achieved more than you might realize. Now I know what you're thinking, but I haven't reached my goals yet. I'm not where I want to be, and that's okay. That's more than okay. That's fantastic, because it means you've got dreams, you've got ambition,
but let me tell you something important. The journey you're on right now? That's where the real winning happened. Let me take you back to when I was just starting out. I was a farm boy from Idaho, didn't have much to my name, but I had two eyes to see with, two ears to hear with, two hands to work with. And let me tell you, that was more than enough to start winning. You see, winning isn't just about the big moments, the grand achievements. It's about the small victories you rack up every single day. It's about the challenges you overcome, the lessons you learn, the growth you experience. And by that measure, my friends, you're already a champion many times over. Think about it. You woke up this morning, didn't you? That's a win right there. Millions of people didn't get that chance today. You've got the ability to hear these words, to understand them, to reflect on them. That's another win. You've made it through every single tough day in your life so far, a 100 in success rate.
Now, if that's not winning, I don't know what is, but let's dig a little deeper. Let's talk about the victories you might be overlooking. Have you ever helped someone in need? That's a win. Have you ever learned from a mistake? That's a huge win. Have you ever pushed through when you wanted to give up? My friend, that's the biggest win of all. I remember back in my early days, I was working as a stock clerk, minimum wage, long hours, not exactly glamorous. But you know what? I won every single day. How? By showing up, by doing my best, by learning everything I could about that job, about the products, about the customers. I didn't know it then, but I was laying the foundation for everything that came after. And that's what you're doing right now. Every book you read, every skill you practice, every challenge you face, you're winning. You're building your foundation, brick by brick, victory by victory.
Now, I'm not saying you should rest on your laurels. Far from it, the fact that you've already won so much should be your fuel to win even more. Because here's the secret, winning budgets, winning. Success, breed success. The more you recognize and appreciate your victories, the more victories you'll have to recognize and appreciate. Let me share a little story with you. Years ago, I met a young man who was down on his luck. He'd lost his job, his savings were dwindling, and he was about ready to throw in the towel. I asked him, what have you won lately? He looked at me like I was crazy. One, I haven't won anything, I'm a loser. So I said, let's look at it differently. Did you get up this morning despite feeling like the world was against you, he nodded? That's a win, I told him, did you keep looking for opportunities even when it seemed hopeless? Another nod. That's a big win, I said. Have you learned anything from this experience that will make you stronger in the future?
His eyes lit up. Actually, yes, he said, I've learned a lot. Well then I said, it sounds to me like you're winning all over the place. That young man went on to start his own business, not because I gave him some magic formula, but because he started recognizing his own victories, he started building on his wins instead of dwelling on his losses. And that's what I want for you. I want you to start seeing all the ways you're already winning, because once you do, there's no limit to what you can achieve. Think about your relationships. Have you ever made someone smile? Have you ever offered a kind word to someone who needed it? Have you ever forgiven someone who wronged you? Those are massive wins, my friends. The kind of wins that make life worth living. Or how about your personal growth? Have you ever pushed past your comfort zone? Have you ever learned a new skill? Have you ever faced a fear? Again, these are huge victories.
They're the kinds of wins that shape who you are and who you're becoming. Now I know some of you might be thinking, but what about financial success? What about achieving my big goals? And those are important? No doubt about it. But let me tell you something. Those big wins are built on the foundation of all these smaller wins we're talking about. You see, success isn't something that just happens overnight. It's not a destination. You arrive at one day. Success is a process, a journey. And that journey is made up of all these little wins we're discussing. Let me give you an example from my own life. When I first started out as a speaker, I wasn't addressing huge audiences or making big money. Far from it. My first seminar, there were only two people in the audience. Now I could have seen that as a failure. I could have given up right then and there. But instead, I chose to see it as a win. Why? Because I showed up.
Because I delivered my message with as much passion and conviction as if I were speaking to a crowd of thousands. Because those two people in the audience, they listened. They learned. They left that seminar with something valuable. And you know what? That was the start of everything that came after. Because I recognized that small win. Because I built on it. I was able to keep going. To keep growing. To keep winning. And that's what I want for you. I want you to recognize all the ways you're already winning. So you can win even more. Now, let's talk about mindset for a moment. Because your mindset, my friends, is where your biggest wins and your biggest losses happen. It's not what happens to you that determines your success. It's how you respond to what happens to you. I learned this lesson early on. And it served me well throughout my life. You see, we all face setbacks. We all encounter obstacles. But it's our response to these challenges that defines us.
It's our ability to see the opportunity in every difficulty that sets us apart. Let me tell you about a time when I faced a major setback. I had invested heavily in a business venture, poured my heart and soul into it. And it failed spectacularly. Now, I could have seen that as a devastating loss. I could have given up on my dreams right then and there. But instead, I chose to see it as a win. Why? Because of what I learned from that experience. I learned about resilience. I learned about perseverance. I learned valuable lessons about business that I've carried with me ever since. And you know what? Those lessons paved the way for future successes that far outweighed that initial loss. And that's what I want you to understand. Every setback, every failure, every disappointment. They're all opportunities to win. They're all chances to learn, to grow, to become better than you were before.
So when life knocks you down, and it will, my friends, it knocks us all down sometimes. I want you to remember this. Getting back up as a win, dusting yourself off as a win. Taking another step forward, no matter how small, is a win. Now, let's talk about goals for a moment. Because goals are important. They give us direction. They give us purpose. But here's something crucial to understand. The real win isn't in achieving the goal. The real win is in who you become as you work towards that goal. So your goal is to run a marathon. That's a worthy goal, no doubt about it. But the win isn't just in crossing that finish line. The win is in every training run you complete. It's in every early morning you drag yourself out of bed to practice. It's in every time you choose a healthy meal over junk food because you're committed to your goal. By the time you actually run that marathon, you've already won a thousand times over.
Because you've become a disciplined, committed, healthier person. You've developed habits and skills that will serve you well in every area of your life. And that, my friends, is the real victory? Now, I want to address something important. In today's world, it's easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others. We see people's highlight reels and think we're falling behind. But let me tell you something. The only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday. Your journey is unique. Your wins are unique. And they're no as valuable because they might look different from someone else's wins. I remember time when I was just starting out in my career. I looked around at my peers and felt like I was falling behind. They had better jobs, bigger houses, fancier cars. And for a while, I let that get me down. I felt like I wasn't winning. But then I had a realization. I started looking at my own progress, not in comparison to others, but in comparison to where I had been.
And you know what? I was winning all over the place. I was learning. I was growing. I was becoming a better person every single day. And that's what I want for you. I want you to measure your wins against your own yardstick, not someone else's. Because when you do that, you'll realize just how much you've already won. Now, let's talk about gratitude for a moment. Because gratitude, my friends, is one of the most powerful tools we have for recognizing our wins. When we're grateful, we start to see victories where before we only saw defeats. I make it a practice every single day to write down three things I'm grateful for. And let me tell you, it's changed my life. Because when you're actively looking for things to be grateful for, you start to see just how much you've already won. Maybe you're grateful for your health. That's a win. Maybe you're grateful for a loved one. That's a huge win. Maybe you're grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow.
That's a win that keeps on giving. And here's the beautiful thing about gratitude. The more you practice it, the more wins you'll find to be grateful for. It's a virtuous cycle that just keeps building on itself. Now, I don't want to talk about something that's crucial for recognizing your wins. Self-reflection. In our busy lives, it's easy to rush from one thing to the next without ever taking the time to pause and reflect. But reflection is where we really cement our wins, where we extract the lessons and the growth from... I make it a practice to spend some time at the end of each day reflecting on what went well, what I learned, and how I can do better tomorrow. And let me tell you, it's been transformative. Because when you take the time to reflect, you start to see wins that you might have otherwise overlooked. Maybe you handled a difficult situation with grace. That's a win. Maybe you made progress on a long-term project. That's a win.
Maybe you simply maintained a positive attitude in the face of challenges. That's a big win. And when you recognize these wins, when you really take them in, you're building the foundation for even greater wins in the future. Now, I want to address something that I see all too often. Many people discount their wins because they seem small or insignificant. But let me tell you some, there's no such thing as an insignificant win. Every win, no matter how small it might seem, is moving you forward. It's building your confidence. It's reinforcing positive habits. It's shaping you into the person you're meant to become. I remember when I first started saving money. I was able to put aside just a few dollars each week. It seemed so insignificant at the time. But you know what? Those few dollars were the start of everything. They were the foundation of the financial security I later built. They were a win that led to countless other wins.
So don't discount your small wins. Build on them because those small wins over time add up to big victories. Now, let's talk about the power of consistency. Because consistency, my friends, is where the magic happens. It's in the everyday actions, the habits we form, the choices we make day in and day out, that our biggest wins are created. I often tell people success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day. And failure is simply a few errors in judgment repeated every day. It's the consistency that makes the difference. Think about it. Reading a book for 30 minutes a day might not seem like much. But do it consistently. In over a year, you've read dozens of books. That's a huge win. Making one sales call the day might not seem significant. But do it consistently. And over time, you've built a thriving business. That's an enormous win.
The key is to focus on winning the day. Because when you win the day, consistently, you can't help but win the week, the month, the year, and ultimately your life. Now, I want to address something that holds many people back from recognizing their wins. Perfectionism, we often have this idea that unless something is perfect, it doesn't count as a win. But let me tell you, perfection is the enemy of progress. I've never given a perfect speech. I've never written a perfect book. I've never had a perfect day. But you know what? I've won countless times through my speeches, my books, and my days. Because I showed up. Because I did my best. Because I learned and grew from each experience. Your wins don't have to be perfect to count. They just have to move you forward. Let's talk about the power mindset for a moment. Because your mindset, my friends, is where your biggest wins happen. It's not what happens to you that determines your success.
It's how you respond to what happens to you. I learned this lesson early on, and it served me well throughout my life. You see? We all face setbacks. We all encounter obstacles. But it's our response to these challenges that defines us. It's our ability to see the opportunity in every difficulty that sets us apart. Let me tell you about a time when I faced a major setback. I had invested heavily in a business venture, poured my heart and soul into it, and it failed spectacularly. Those lessons paved the way for future successes that far outweigh that initial loss.
And that's what I want you to understand. Every setback, every failure, every disappointment. They're all opportunities to win. They're all chances to learn, to grow, to become better than you were before. So when life knocks you down. And it will, my friends, it knocks us all down sometimes. I want you to remember this. Getting back up is a win. Dusting yourself off is a win. Taking another step forward, no matter how small is a win. Now, let's talk about the power of your associations. You've heard me say it before. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. And this applies to winning too. When you surround yourself with winners, with people who recognize and celebrate their own wins. You can't help but win more yourself. I remember when I first started attending personal development seminars. I was surrounded by people who were constantly pushing themselves, constantly growing, constantly winning.
And you know what? It rubbed off on me. I started seeing more wins in my own life. I started achieving things I never thought possible. So take a look at your associations. Are you surrounding yourself with people who recognize their wins? With people who celebrate your wins? If not, it might be time to make some changes. Because the right associations can multiply your wins exponentially. Now, I want to talk about something that's crucial for sustained winning. Balance. You see, it's easy to get caught up in winning in one area of life while neglecting others. But true success. True winning comes from achieving balance across all areas of your life. I learned this lesson the hard way. There was a time in my life when I was winning big in my career. But my health was suffering. I was achieving financial success, but my relationships were strained. And you know what? It didn't feel like winning at all. That's when I realized. True winning means achieving balance.
It means winning in your career and your relationships, in your health and your finances, in your personal growth and your contribution to others. So as you recognize your wins, make sure you're winning across all areas of your life. Because that, my friends, is where true fulfillment lies. Let's talk about the power of vision for a moment. Because having a clear vision of what you want to achieve, of who you want to become, is crucial for recognizing your wins. When you have a clear vision, you have a roadmap. You can see how each small win is moving you closer to your ultimate goals. I always encourage people to spend time clarifying their vision, to really get specific about what they want to achieve in life. Because when you do that, you start to see wins everywhere. Every step you take towards that vision, no matter how small, becomes a victory worth celebrating. I remember when I first started clarifying my own vision.
I wrote it down, made it specific, made it vivid. And you know what? My win started multiplying. Because I could see how every small action, every little victory, was moving me closer to where I wanted to be. So take some time to clarify your vision. Write it down. Make it so clear that you can taste it, feel it, see it. And then watch as your wins start multiplying. Now let's talk about the power of taking action. Because you can have all the knowledge in the world, all the plans, all the good intentions. But if you don't take action, you won't win. It's in the doing that the magic happens. I've seen so many people get stuck in planning mode, in learning mode, in preparing mode. And don't get me wrong, those things are important. But at some point, you've got to step out and do something. Because that's where the real wins happen. I remember when I first started my business. I could have spent years planning preparing, getting everything perfect.
But instead, I took action. I started small. I made mistakes. I learned as I went. And you know what? Those actions, imperfect as they were, led to some of my biggest wins. So don't wait for perfect conditions. Don't wait until you feel 100 ready. Take action today, no matter how small. Because in that action, you'll find your wins. Let's talk about the power of persistence. Because winning isn't always easy. There will be times when you face setbacks. When you feel like giving up. But it's in those moments when you choose to persist. That you often find your biggest win. I face my share of setbacks. There were times when I wanted to throw in the tallow. When it seemed like success was just too far out of reach. But I chose to persist. I chose to keep going, keep learning, keep growing. And you know what? Those moments of persistence led to some of my greatest victories. So when you face challenges, when you encounter obstacles,
remember this, persistence is a win in itself. Choosing to keep going when everything in you wants to give up. That's a massive victory. Now I want to talk about something that's often overlooked when it comes to winning, rest and renewal. You see, winning isn't about pushing yourself to the brink of exhaustion. It's not about burning yourself out in pursuit of your goals. True winning includes taking care of yourself, recharging your batteries, renewing your spirit. I learned this lesson the hard way. There was a time when I was pushing myself so hard, working around the clock, never taking a break. And you know what? My win started to dimmage. I was less creative, less productive, less effective. That's when I realized. Rest is part of the winning process, taking time to recharge, to reflect, to renew. That's not wasted time. It's an investment in future wins.
So make sure you're taking time for rest and renewal. It might feel counterintuitive, but trust me, it's a crucial part of sustained winning. Let's talk about the power of continuous learning. Because in today's rapidly changing world, those who win are those who never stop learning, never stop growing, never stop improving. I've made it a practice throughout my life to be a constant learner. I read voraciously, I attend seminars, I seek out new experiences. And you know what? Each new thing I learn opens up new opportunities to win. Each new skill I develop multiplies my potential for success. So never stop learning. See, every day is an opportunity to grow, to improve, to win in new ways. Because the moment you stop learning is the moment you stop winning. Now, I want to address something that holds many people back from recognizing their wins. Comparison. We live in a world where it's all too easy to compare ourselves
to others, to look at someone else's success and feel like we're falling short. But here's the truth. Your only real competition is yourself. Your only real measure of success is how far you've come from where you started. I remember early in my career, I'd look at other speakers, other authors, and feel like I wasn't measuring up. But then I realize, their journey isn't my journey. Their wins aren't my wins. The only comparison that matters is between who I am today and who I was yesterday. So stop comparing yourself to others. Start comparing yourself to who you were yesterday, last month, last year. Because when you do that, you'll start to see just how much you've already won. Let's talk about the power of gratitude. Because gratitude, my friends, is one of the most powerful tools we have for recognizing and multiplying our wins. When we're grateful, we start to see victories where before we only saw defeat, I make it a practice every single day
to write down three things I'm grateful for. And let me tell you, it's changed my life. Because when you're actively looking for things to be grateful for, you start to see just how much you've already won. Maybe you're grateful for your help. Now I want to talk about something that's crucial for recognizing your wins. Celebrating your progress. Too often, we're so focused on the end goal that we forget to celebrate how far we've come. But it's in those celebrations that we find the motivation to keep going, to keep winning. I remember when I first started my business, I was so focused on where I wanted to be
that I forgot to celebrate the small milestones along the way. But when I started acknowledging and celebrating each step forward, no matter how small, my motivation skyrocketed. And you know what, the wins started coming faster and bigger. So take time to celebrate your progress. Acknowledge how far you've come. Because in those celebrations, you'll find the fuel for even bigger wins. Let's talk about the power giving. Because here's a truth I've learned over the years. The more you give, the more you win. It might seem counterintuitive, but I've found it to be true time and time again. When you give of yourself, your time, your knowledge, your resources, you open yourself up to wins in ways you never imagined. You build relationships. You gain new perspectives. You find fulfillment that goes beyond any material success. I've made it a practice throughout my life to always be looking for ways to give, to contribute, to add value to others.
And you know what, those acts of giving have led to some of my biggest wins. They've opened doors. I never knew existed. They've brought opportunities. I never could have imagined. So look for ways to give, to contribute, to add value to others' lives. Because in that giving, you'll find some of your biggest wins. Now let's talk about the power of your words. Because the way you talk to yourself, the way you describe your experiences, has a huge impact on how you perceive your win. You've seen so many people diminish their victories through their words. They'll achieve something significant and then say, oh, it was nothing. Oh, they'll make progress and then say, but I should have done more. But here's the truth. Your words create your reality. When you speak of your experiences in terms of victory, in terms of winning, you start to see more and more wins in your life. So be mindful of your words.
Take of your experiences in terms of wins. Describe your progress in terms of victory. Because when you do that, you're programming your mind to see more and more wins in your life. Let's talk about the power of your environment. Because your environment, the physical space you occupy, the information you consume, the atmosphere you create around yourself, has a huge impact on your ability to recognize and create wins. I've always been a big believer in creating an environment that supports my goals, that reinforces my commitment to winning. I surround myself with books that inspire me with quotes that motivate me, with tools that help me be more productive. And you know what? That environment makes a difference. It reminds me of my goals. It keeps me focused on winning. It supports me in creating more and more victories in my life. So take a look at your environment. Is it supporting your wins? Is it reminding you of your goals?
Is it helping you be your best self? If not, it might be time for some changes. Because the right environment can multiply your wins exponentially. Now, I want to talk about something that's crucial for sustained winning. Integrity, because true winning, lasting success, comes from living in alignment with your values, from being a person of your word. I've seen so many people achieve short-term wins by cutting corners, by compromising their integrity. But those wins are hollow. They don't last. And they often come at a great cost. True winning, lasting success, comes from being a person of integrity. From doing what you say you're going to do, from living in alignment with your values, even when it's difficult, even when no one is watching. I've made it a practice throughout my life to always act with integrity. To always do what I say I'm going to do. And you know what? It hasn't always been easy.
There have been times when it would have been simpler to take a shortcut to compromise my values for a quick win. But I've found that integrity pays off in the long run. It builds trust. It creates opportunities. It leads to wins that are deep and lasting and truly satisfying. So make integrity a cornerstone of your life. Because when you do, you'll find that your wins become more meaningful, more impactful, more lasting. Let's talk about the power of resilience. Because here's a truth about winning. It's not always going to be easy. You're going to face setbacks. You're going to encounter obstacles. You're going to have days when it feels like you're loose. But it's in those moments when you choose to get back up. When you choose to keep going, despite the challenges, that you often find your biggest wins. I face my share of setbacks. There have been times when I felt like giving up when the obstacles seemed insurmountable. But I chose to be resilient.
I chose to keep going. To learn from the setbacks, to grow stronger from the challenges. And you know what? Those moments of resilience led to some of my greatest victories. Because resilience isn't just about bouncing back. It's about bouncing forward. It's about using the challenges as fuel for even greater wins. So when you face setbacks, and you will, we all do. Remember this. Resilience is a win in itself. Choosing to keep going when everything in you wants to give up. That's a massive victory. Now, I wanted to talk about something that's often overlooked when it comes to winning. The power of reflection in our fast-paced world, it's easy to rush from one thing to the next without ever taking the time to pause and reflect. But reflection is where we really cement our wins, where we extract the lessons, and the growth, I make it a practice, to spend some time at the end of each day reflecting on what went well.
What I learned, and how I can do better tomorrow. So make reflection a regular part of your life. Take time to pause, to look back, to recognize your wins. Because in that reflection, you'll find the fuel for even greater victories. Let's talk about the power of your habits. Because here's a truth I've learned over the years. Your habits are the building blocks of your wins. It's not the occasional big effort that leads to lasting success.
It's the small, consistent actions you take day after day. Often tell people success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day. And failure is simply a few errors in judgment repeated every day. It's the consistency that makes the difference. Think about it. Reading for 30 minutes a day might not seem like much, but do it consistently in over a year. You've read dozens of books. That's a huge win. Making one sales call a day might not seem significant. But do it consistently and over time, you've built a thriving business. That's an enormous win. So take a look at your habits. Are they supporting your wins? Are they moving you closer to your goals? If not, it might be time for some changes. Because when you align your daily habits with your long-term goals, you can't help but win. Now, I want to dress something that holds many people back from recognizing their wins.
Perfectionism. We often have this idea that unless something is perfect, it doesn't count as a win. They just have to move you forward, even if it's just by an inch. Remember progress is a win. Improvement is a win. Learning is a win. So let go of the need for perfection. Embrace progress. Celebrate improvement. Because when you do, you'll start to see wins everywhere. Let's talk about the power of your mindset. Because your mindset, my friends, is where your biggest wins happen.
It's not what happens to you that determines your success. It's how you respond to what happens to you. I learned this lesson early on, and it served me well throughout my life. You see, we all face setbacks. We all encounter obstacles. But it's our response to these challenges that defines us. It's our ability to see the opportunity in every difficulty that sets us apart. I remember time when I faced a major setback in my business. I could have seen it as a failure, as a reason to give up. But instead, I chose to see it as an opportunity to learn, to grow, to become better. And you know what? That shift in mindset led to some of my biggest wins. So cultivate a winning mindset. See challenges as opportunities. See setbacks as setups for comebacks. Because when you do, you'll find that you're winning even in the face of adversity. Now, as we near the end of our time together, I want to leave you with this thought.
You have already won a lot. More than you realize, every challenge you've overcome, every lesson you've learned, every step you've taken towards your goals. But here's the exciting parts. Your biggest wins are still ahead of you. Because now you know. Now you understand the power of recognizing your wins, of building on your victories, of seeing every experience as an opportunity to grow and succeed. So go forth from here with your eyes open to the wins all around you. Celebrate your progress. Learn from your setbacks. Keep pushing forward. Keep growing. Keep winning. Because you, my friend, are a winner. You always have been. And now that you know it, there's no limit to what you can achieve. Remember, life's big wins don't come from luck. They come from doing. From learning. From growing. From persisting. They come from recognizing the small wins along the way and building on them. So go out there and win.
Win in your career. Win in your relationships. Win in your personal growth. Win in your contribution to others. Because when you do, you're not just creating a better life for yourself. You're creating a better world for all of us. Close your eyes. Exhale. Feel your body relax. Let go of whatever you're carrying today.
