You Are Not Lazy... The Real Reason You Keep Procrastinating
About this episode
Think about a task you need to get done but haven’t completed yet. An important task, maybe even one you're very passionate about.
You know what you need to do, and you know how to do it.
You have the skills.
You have the time.
You have the plan.
And still, the document sits untouched, or the email remains unsent, or the crucial conversation goes unhad.
Every morning, you see that task on your to-do list, and every morning, for some reason you can't quite name, you decide to check your email one more time. Or reorganize your desk. Or watch a short, five-minute video that turns into a 30-minute one.
You do other things, and maybe even a lot of things, but not this.
Most people think that that sort of procrastination is a sign of weakness. But that's not really the case.
It's not a sign of weakness.
It is not a character flaw.
And it is certainly not laziness.
The truth is, those are some of the biggest lies we get told or tell ourselves about this harmful behavior, this inner enemy that is procrastination.
That inexplicable delay is actually a very common human struggle, far more common than we admit. We've all been there, and if we're going to talk about it, we need to start by getting clear about something very important, which is this: Procrastination is not a time management problem. It's an emotional one.
In this talk, we're going to confront procrastination head-on. We'll unpack why it’s so destructive, why we fall for it, and what it truly takes to put a stop to it.
If you have ever struggled with delaying, stalling, or dragging your feet on things you know you want to or must do - and more importantly if you want to learn how to deal with it better - then this one is for you.
Listen to this talk on procrastination to learn more.
