Imagine coming across a two-year-old little boy wandering completely alone outside an apartment complex.

He's wearing only a shirt and a diaper.

He can't tell anyone where his mother is.

Nobody seems to know where he's come from.

And then, as police begin trying to identify this little boy, they discover something even more disturbing.

His mother, 21-year-old Leila Cavett, is missing.

Self-proclaimed ‘witch’ Shannon Ryan has been arrested and charged with Leila’s murder.  Social media messages between Shannon and Leila indicate that Leila may have been working as a witchcraft apprentice.  Court documents currently indicate that the jury trial may begin this month, September 2026.

Welcome back to the episode of the True Crime Society podcast. Stephanie Analyvia is September 6th, 2026. We were just saying on Patreon, like, oh my god, how's it September? It's crazy. I feel like it was just January. I feel like I just had a baby and now it's one. It's as far as weather here. It's been, I don't know, still pretty disgusting, hot and humid.

I guess it was a little cooler today. Believes are starting to fall, but I predict it'll be still hot through October. So this maybe is like a taste of a falsefall, but we're getting there, hopefully. It's funny because we're now one waking to spring and I went out and flinched with some friends on Friday and the weather has just been absolutely phenomenal, like hot summer weather, beautiful blue skies and my friends, it's always like this. Our next week watch, it's going to go back to being cold, so we've had our false spring and it is. This week it's going to be colder and rainy. It's still quite nice today, but maybe it's coming in the week. It's very interesting though. It always seems to turn right on time and then it's like, hey, here's a taste to it, but it's so good that you can wait a little bit longer. There's always that one week that throws everyone off. We did also hit 10 million downloads, which I guess is worth noting. It's kind of crazy. It's a number where it doesn't seem real to me because I can't really imagine what 10 million is, you know what I mean? But then I try to be like, okay, like how many seats are in this stadium?

And I'm like, wow, so that's how many downloads there are. Like if MetLife Stadium was this many people, each seat counts as a download and then you start to be like, well, that's crazy. Even they broke it down a little bit more in our podcast and I like Dashboard. And there was something going on in the lines of it. It's like five and a half, on average, five and a half thousand downloads per day, which is a lot because I wouldn't get like, you follow your downloads and you know, you know, because that's obviously a measure of how well a podcast is doing. But like that seems like a crazy amount of that. Five thousand people are looking for our podcast every day. That's pretty crazy. Yeah, I guess daily it's like makes a little more sense because like 10 million downloads overall, obviously like some are duplicate people like who listen weekly, but like five thousand a day, it's probably like five thousand different people. It's like, doubt there's a lot of people listening to like the same episode twice, you know? Yeah. Yeah. And also I guess like, bingeing and all that, but still. But yeah, definitely an imposter syndrome moment as usual because I'm still just like

little of me who has cried in the last two episodes and is barely scraping by and it's recording in the dark on my bed because I still don't have a proper podcast set up trying to be quiet and not wake my baby. Me, I said, me and my co-host have 10 million downloads. Crazy. It's so funny too because you know, we obviously get, we always talk about the messages to the people send us and I would say 90 percent probably even more of our messages are nice and kind and just, you know, they're discussing the topic. But every now and then we'll still get the occasional main one to bring us back down to earth which is quite funny. Yeah. They are always trying to humble me out there. We got one we were laughing about and it was like the counting to make a tennis sense. I was like, the host. I was so sure. As the first time listener, I will never listen again. That host is better than right off and sneaky to her co-host, Holy Annoying. So which one of us, which one of us, which one of us, which one of us, which one of us is the most weird? That's mean to the other one. It has to be me.

I have to be the sneaky one. I feel like as you start every episode, maybe you're the host and I'm the co-host. It may not be. What was I being snitty to you about? It's funny. I'm going to be. I've got another friend who does a podcast and she sent me an email, she got yesterday. I'll just read it out because I thought it was quite funny. It says, hi, I enjoy the stories on you podcast, but we really don't need to hear your personal views. Can you just stick to the facts? There's no thanks. I just love how people dictate like what? I like crime podcasts. I listen to a bunch of different ones. Most of the ones I listen to aren't chatty. It's just a story. I like that. That's fine. But then if I listen to one, I'm like, okay, maybe this isn't for me. I'll just stop listening. I know. I'm not going to rate them a personal email. I'm going to pay. Can you cater this to specifically me? Oh my gosh. Anyway, very funny. Oh, I'm sorry if I was ever snitty to you. Funny here. I don't know. Maybe she means snippy. I don't know. Snitty. Yes, notty. It could be snitty maybe, but it's funny because here, it's snitty. Obviously, a giant's abbreviate everything.

So here, a snitty is another word for like, crumb chicken. Because the chicken is snitty. It's always what we call it. And people will say, like, do you want to go out for a snitty? And I'm like, what is it? Obviously, I know she doesn't mean that, but I just thought that was funny. That's funny. Yeah, I don't think. I'm assuming she's trying to write snitty or shitty. Yeah. It could be either of those would fit with her narrative. Yeah, just call me snitty, Stephanie. Yeah. Yeah. All right. So our new Patron subscribers for this week, we have Erica, Sarah, Laura, Kara, Sarah, Amy, and Amanda. And Peep is here to say thank you for joining. And we did also have Lydia who joined this morning. I'm just saying the email popping about Lydia. So welcome to it. Oh, and Lydia, thank you for joining. And then let's know of the week. We've got a comment from E on Spotify. And they wrote, I love your life stories before the episode begins. I work from home and this is the perfect podcast to listen to. So that's why it's funny. Because I know that we've had a lot of new listeners with Alan Z. Clancy,

original episode. People, and that was an older episode from three years ago, because we did it when the case first happened, but they're so interesting, because people write comments. And they're like, I understand, maybe you could move the chat to the end. And have a phone call. Yeah, someone said, why do you have a phone call and talk before you do your podcast? Like get all your chat out of the way. And I'm like, but anyway, we talk every day. Yeah. Yeah. Some people like it. Some people don't. That's why we include the time stamps. Just use the time stamps and get out of the chat if you don't want it. Yeah, we literally had to change the title on that episode and be like, please see episode note because we re-did the whole episode. Yeah. Stop yelling at us. Don't you need to talk about Ed Sheeran? Oh my gosh, I want to throw it back. Yeah. Okay, Pete. So let's get into our talk match today. We're going to do talking about Lila Cabot. Yeah, we have, there's a bunch of different videos.

Her name is spelled L-E-I-L-A. So some call her Lila. Most of the ones call her Lila where we are going with that, because I've watched a video with her sisters, and that's how the news anchor pronounced isn't in that one. So we're hoping that is correct. But yeah, there's a few different ways you may have heard her name pronounced. Yeah. So this was a huge case. I remember when it was happening. I remember a lot of people were following it live, basically. I know it was big on our Facebook group. And it's just, it's crazy story that really has just like, kind of a resolution, but like not really at the same time. So let's get into it. Before we get into the episode, we've got a word from our sponsor, the Instant Hydration, where they are working out, spending time outdoors, traveling, or just trying to feel your best hydration matters. I know I personally find it so hard sometimes to drink enough water during the day. Like, I'll get half way through the day and think, oh my gosh, I feel really, really thirsty. I need to drink some more. And I feel like hydration affects almost everything for me. Energy, focus, workouts, how I feel throughout the day,

how I function. I just feel so much better when I'm properly hydrated. I have absolutely loved working with Instant Hydration. At the moment, my favorite flavor is strawberry lemon. I feel like my big water bottle with it. The flavor is delicious. I look forward to drinking it, and I take it everywhere with me. I took it away the other way, and we'll play in tennis. I was like a pro athlete. But the flavors are just delicious, and I have found it makes it so much easy for me to stay hydrated and drink enough water during the day. Instant Hydration is a premium electrolyte drink mix designed to support hydration, energy, recovery, focus, and overall performance without sugar or unnecessary additives. Insideration is known for their refreshing flavors, not overly salty, smooth taste, and it's an easy daily habit. I know I have the peach pineapple one, and I love it so much. It's a great flavor. It doesn't taste chalky or salty. When they don't mix great, you don't get any of that with Instant Hydration, which I love. Most hydration products don't really talk about their salt source or use table salt, but it's actually one of the most important ingredients

in an electrolyte. So I love that they use this high quality at French Grace sea salt. For better way to stay hydrated, go to instanthydration.com, and use our promo code TCS for 40% off your first subscription order. It's instant hydrations best offer available. That's instanthydration.com slash TCS. And the promo code is TCS. New video, new clues into the disappearance of 21 year old missing mom, Lila Cavad, whose two year old son was found wandering in Miramar, July 26th. The day before Saturday, July 25th, 220 in the afternoon, her white Chevy pickup is seen at the racetrack gas station, Hollywood Boulevard in 441. 45 minutes later, she's seen getting out of a Lexus and then buying something in the store. Seven hours later, 1016 at night, Lila Cavad, is seen in the racetrack holding her son. After that, she vanishes. I'm hoping that she will be found.

And I'm glad the FBI is involved and doing the search. Robert Ferdinand is Lila's grandfather. He and the rest of the family do not believe this man's claims. Why is it you have a missing girl or missing woman? And the last person to see her, which is me, who talked to the police, you ain't heard nothing about me. That's Shannon Ryan, a self described witch, who says he met Lila Cavad last year in Alabama, and that she came to Florida to sell him her truck. These are pictures of that truck front and back. And now they try to make a connection with me to her, but you got my phone. Ryan is in jail charged with kidnapping, Lila's son, and lying to federal agents. The FBI says his Lexus with front and damage was seen in front of the Miramar apartment complex where Lila's son was found. Magic coming across a two year old little boy watering completely alone outside an apartment complex. He's only wearing a shirt and a diaper. He can't tell anyone where his mother is.

Nobody seems to know where he's come from. And then as police begin trying to identify this little boy, they discover something even more disturbing. His mother, 21 year old Lila Cavad is missing. She had driven hundreds of miles from Georgia to South Florida with her little boy. And the last person investigators would ultimately focus on was a man who claimed that he had been helping Lila, a self described witch, spiritual teacher, and a tarot reader named Shannon Ryan. Shannon would tell police that Lila had voluntarily left with other men. But surveillance cameras would tell a very different story. When investigators would uncover in the days and months that followed, return a missing person's investigation into a murder case, despite the fact that Lila's body has never been found. So the trial for Lila's case is scheduled to start this month. So we thought it would be a good time to cover it again. We did briefly cover the case back in 2020 if you've been listening for that long. And it sounds familiar. That's why we did it on like a call on CCTV case.

Episode that we did. So let's look at a little bit more in depth about it. And plus there's been some updates since then anyways. Yeah, it's crazy when I went back. Because I thought I'm sure we've done this case, but like I searched for a file and said. I know we both were like, we've done that. Where is it? And then I like, I will keep all the notes I've ever written. I found it back then. And I was like, oh, when I went to the notes, oh my gosh, it was so basic. I'm so glad people would have stuck around. Because even I said to you, I feel that we can do this one a lot better. That was right when we were starting the podcast. It was very, very small snippet of the case that we confidentially. As of 2020, Lila Kavett was 21 years old. She'd been living in Dawsonville, Georgia and was a single mother to Camden who was two years old. She'd been working at Dunkin Donuts to support herself and her son. Camden's father is Daniel Lee West. And their relationship was described as complicated, but not necessarily hostile. Daniel told Miami Herald that he was in contact with Lila at the time and sent money to help support their son.

Just three sisters, one named Gina, her father, Curtis Kavett, told CBS that Camden was Lila's whole world. Lila asked spoke to one of her sisters on a video call on July 17th, 2020. They spoke for about an hour. And this sister said that nothing seemed to miss and that there was no mention of this big trip to Florida that Lila had apparently planned. On Friday, July 24th, 2020, at Lila and Camden left Georgia around 7 pm that day, they were seen on CCTV at a cracker barrel in Vero Beach, Florida. This is an eight to nine hour drive from their home, which is around 583 miles or 938 kilometers. She was seen driving a white Chevy 3500 mid to late 90s model with a maroon or red tailgate and a baby on board sign on the passenger window. Lila was seen on CCTV again on Saturday, July 25th, 2020 from around 2.20 pm. Her truck was seen at a racetrack gas station.

There was a silver Lexus parked there and Lila was seen interacting with the occupant of the Lexus. Investors believe that Lila got into the Lexus with Camden. At 3 pm, she got out of the Lexus and went inside the gas station. At 4.51 pm, Lila and Camden were seen at a family dollar store. At 8.35 pm, they were seen at a cheesecake factory. Last confirm sighting of Lila was between 10, 15, 10, 19 pm that day and she was last seen at a racetrack gas station with Camden. Lila was seen with a man at the gas station and she filled up a drink while the man paid. The three left together in the Lexus that we had mentioned previously. The following day was Sunday, July 26th, 2020. A passerby named Ebony Williams discovered a small child wandering alone near the edge of apartments in Miramar. He was only wearing a t-shirt and a diaper and he couldn't communicate where his mother was. Ebony said, I asked him where his mommy was and he just kind of pointed everywhere.

Miramar police appealed for help in identifying the child and finding his parents. So you can still see screenshots of the social media posts. We'll put it in our blog, but it's just cute little him looking a little disgruntled. He looks mad and cranky like, well, you know, what are you, what are you doing? Yeah, very cute. By Monday, July 27th, the photographs had reached members of Lila's family. Her sister, Gina said that someone sent her the police post and she said 100% that's Camden. Lila's family began traveling to our Camden was found and it was around 800 miles of driving. They arrived on Tuesday, July 28th and they met with detectives. Gina said, is starting to become a lot more real now and I definitely just want to know my sister is okay. Her family said that Lila didn't have any ties that part of Florida where Camden was found and they were growing concerned. Her sister said, that's the main question that we're trying to figure out now. We don't know of her having any friends or family out there to be out here in the first place. They also appealed for her to come forward.

She said, my sister's watching this, just please reach out to any of us. And if you don't want to reach out, reach out to your friends. Everyone's just so concerned we just want you home. So while Camden's identity was confirmed, he remained in state custody and due COVID restrictions at the time, he could only see his aunts and other family members via Zoom. Please review the CCTV and quickly found that Lila and Camden had been repeatedly seen with the man in the Lexus. Vehicle was distinctive as it was missing the front bumper and it was captured on CCTV near the apartment complex where Camden was found. Please identify the owner of Lexus as Shannon Ryan. And just for clarity sake, Shannon is a male. I know that's generally a more of a female name, but they are a male in this case. Yeah. Lila's vehicle was found to be parked in the lot of a Walmart in Hollywood, Florida. On July 28th, Shannon went to Lila's vehicle and he was then approached by police. He told authorities that he last saw Lila and Camden on July 26th. His story was that the mother and son

had left the racetrack gas station in a car with several black men that he didn't know at the time. He said that he purchased the truck from Lila for $3,000. Authorities reviewed the CCTV from the gas station and saw no such car or people in the area at the time. Shocking. Footage from 9.42 a.m. on July 26th showed Shannon purchasing 39 gallon trash bags in two boxes of carpet deodorizer at Walmart at 9.57 a.m. He returned to the Walmart and bought duct tape. I feel like if you're buying carpet, carpet deodorizer and duct tape and garage bag cup, like hello. And also like 15 minutes apart, like he's clearly this shows to me that this isn't really a plan. This is a sloppy plan. He's going by and things going back 15 minutes later to buy more things on a Walmart. It's clearly going to be CCTV. None of this was thought out very well. Yeah. They found footage from July 27th of Shannon's exposing of items in the racetrack dumpster, including a large object in a black bag,

as well as what appeared to be bloody towels. Like, do they not have any of the gas stations around there? No, no, they just seem to always be at this racetrack. Yeah, I always wanted it. I wonder if that would be the same or central focal point for all of this. It was also determined that Shannon's cell phone was in the area at the time that Camden was abandoned and found by Ebony. Authorities as Shannon on July 28th, he was able to meet with them. He said he wasn't able to write them in there, but that he would be at the Walmart parking lot again on July 29th at 9am, which is just like hilarious. He's like, well, I can't write now, but if you want to find me, I'll be back in this parking lot. Yeah. But when July 29th came around, detectives went to the Walmart parking lot, and surprisingly, he didn't show up. Not surprisingly, he didn't show up. Authorities ran checks on his license plate and they discovered that he was actually heading north to Texas. The FBI joined the investigation August 3rd, 2020. Lilo was officially classified at that point as a missing and endangered person. FALL is here and classes back in session, and with an all-new school year comes an all-new season

of our podcast, Campus Killings. I'm Dr. Megan Sachs, and I'm Dr. Amy Slashberg, and wear the hosts of Campus Killings. Over the first four seasons of Campus Killings, we've explored more than 70 of the most sinister crimes to take place on or around school campuses, or the cases we discussed had a school-connected theme. From recent high-profile cases, like the 2022 Moscow Idaho murder of four students to older cases, like the 1966 murder of Sherry Joe Bates, a case that has a possible connection to the infamous Zodiac Killer. We also touch on cases that have played a role in changing laws or campus policies in order to better protect campus students and staff. In season five of Campus Killings, which is out now, we are diving into a new set of campus cases, many of which haven't suggested to us by our listeners. And as usual, we'll include our analysis of each case as both educators and criminologists. We hope that you'll give Campus Killings a listen. All of our episodes are available to binge right now. So this all happened kind of the end of July 2020 on Sunday, August 9th of 2020.

Shannon posted a video on Facebook. His Facebook is still up. I've linked all the posts in the blog. We'll put a clip in here. But basically, he started talking about Leela and he said that her truck window was smashed and then he had covered it with a trash bag, which I guess was his explanation for purchasing these trash bags. I don't know. It's all up on line still, which I'm surprised because I feel like often they take down the pages of these people or whatever, but these are still up. Green is family. It's a beautiful day outside and during the day after lying, getting nice or unborn, birthing to existence. Today, I want to talk about Leela Cabin or Quebec, who she is and what my connection is to her. Leela's missing right now. And I just want to say this. Why is it the only connection that you made between me and Leela Cabin is the one that I posted?

You know, I think some people show up on my posts and says, real, ignorant, ass shit. Real ignorant, ass shit. Yeah. Some of the same individuals, some of the same individuals that I've been helping for the last five or six years. Why is it you have a missing girl or a missing woman? And the last person that's seen her, which is me, who talked to the police. You ain't heard nothing about me. The police, they flashed my name across the newspaper. They haven't put me on TV. They haven't put out a warrant for my arrest. But some of you motherfuckers want to show up on my posts and say some of the most ignorant things. Why, I just said, why, I just said. Cause you ain't no making yourself look even more foolish toward the end. Hmm.

We have a missing woman. And I gave the police everything that I know, everything. But here it is. And this y'all first time hearing of this or hearing of my connection to it. Why did I post that? Cause I posted the pictures. I put the material up. Cause I wanted to draw attention to the fact of what is actually going on. Hmm. You know. People have begun to say, he's guilty. I'm guilty. Why am I guilty? And let me remind you, I put the information up there. You ain't heard shit about me. I posted it. He's guilty. Why? He has a felony. He did things in the past. Yeah, there's some burglary when I was younger. And, oh, I sold drugs when I was younger. And, oh, I went to prison too. I went to prison too.

See, that was the dirt that I grew up out of. That made me the God that I am today. So now, individuals love to try to hold you to a past frequency. You mean, I can't change? I can't be transformed? I can't be renewed? Oh, yeah, you can do all those things. Yeah, but then the minute something goes wrong, then you go back and say, this is who the fuck he is. Look at what he used to do. He's a criminal. So he had to have something to do with it. Thank you. So, I remember two at the time. Everyone was online kind of conducting this witch hunt towards Shun, which was probably rightfully so, but everyone was questioning him online, posting about it. And he became increasingly vocal on Facebook before he was arrested of like straight after Lila disappeared. In one point, he talked about people who believed he had something to do with Lila's disappearance. And he said that he would quote demonstrate his powers by making people

disappear from his timeline. He then referred to carry out a mass hexing at the next full moon. So this kind of gives you an idea of where this is going. Shun is basically self-proclaimed witch into witchcrafts. Witchcraft, he had a large online presence under the name Magnetic Kundalini. His Facebook page describes his interests as including witchcraft, knowledge of self-cometic Kundalini, which I hope I'm saying that right. Shark remediation, comedic science, health and wellness, fitness and mentorship. He described himself as a witch in a spiritual teacher and claimed to teach people about occult and spiritual practices. Shun an appetizer witchcraft lessons for $100 online and said that he could teach his spiritual practices to others. He initially first told authorities that he had met Lila in Alabama in 2019, after she went to his home with Camden. He said that she'd become interested in his spiritual teachings and that the two had remained connected when she moved back to Georgia.

So the FBI did look into kind of electronics and records between the two and they found Facebook messages indicating that Lila had traveled to Florida to become his apprentice. I have picked out two posts from Shun and that we put on the blog as well, but where he writes about Lila. The first one is the one I mentioned earlier where he speaks about the mass hexing. This is after Lila won't miss him. He said, anyone who thinks I have something to do with Lila missine, can you please comment on this post? I want to demonstrate my powers and make all of you disappear off all my timeline at once. Don't get scared now. This is your five minutes of fame. I won't delete your comments, which is honor. Instead, next full moon, I am practice my first mass hexing. Put your name in the pot since you so brave and big and bad and I don't have any real powers. Make me out a lie. May Jesus, Constantine, receive your prayers and the blood of Christ, Great one, protect you. See they are just words anyone can say that shit. And this other post I've picked out is where he speaks about Lila being his apprentice.

He says, I'd like to give a special thanks to the teachers pet Mimi Lene. She knows how to treat a god like a god to sit in her aura is to be in the presence of healing. Every time we connect magic happens. I'd like to give special thanks to my intern, I think it means intern Indigo Weaver. They're one place I know I can go cry if I need to cry. She's just started her journey under my guidance, but already has a place in my heart. So he goes and a thank you for other people. Then he goes on to say I'd like to give a special thanks to my apprentice's Lila Cavett for being the catalyst of a major upgrade to self ever grateful. These witches keep a god in check. I appreciate the nurturing frequencies. As I pour into my students I find myself being poured back to into. There are other witches of mine that I haven't mentioned, but you know the loves there I would be writing all day. So they were obviously acquainted for a few years or at least a year before this 2020 incident happened. And it seems like they had bonded over this interest in which craft based on all the evidence.

I like how his statement there started out being like fuck you, I'm doing mass hexing and then turned into like a thank you speech. I'm going to make you all disappear from my timeline, which is on it. I won't delete your comments. Yeah, just such a flashback when I went and looked at his Facebook page because I remember all this. I remember when he released the video and everyone's like, oh my god, he's done a video he's talking. And obviously this was your encover to where people were home and had more time to follow this. So I remember all of this very vividly. According to crime timelines.com, a friend said Shannon tried slain lilies truck for $1,000, but they found shovels with red spots and the broken truck window. Glass was inside the door and on the ground. Race track employees identified Shannon as being in the area at the time and said that women's clothes and children's toys were seen in the dumpster outside the gas station. One of the workers recognized floral pants, which matched what Lila was last wearing, or last known to be wearing anyway.

Oh yeah, so there is actually I think a photo of Lila in the gas station in these floral pants. They're kind of black with what looks like big white flowers on them. So that is apparently what was dumped in one of the dumpsters at the gas station. So on Saturday, August 15, 2020, the FBI searched the Lexus. They found half empty bleach cleaner and trash bags. We also know that Shannon made Google searches, including what day does commercial garbage pick up for Hollywood, Florida, and another one. Does bleach an alcohol make chloroform, which is very ominous. Why would you need to be searching for those things? But anyway. So the search for Lila included extensive searching of landfill in Broward County, Florida. So obviously I feel like the main theory in this case is that she was probably the large object he was seen dumping into the racetrack dumpster. Because as we mentioned now six years later, she's still missing. So they assumed that she was probably or at least evidence with placed in the dumpster and taken to the landfill in that area.

So Shannon was arrested in August of 2020. He was initially facing two counts of lying to a law enforcement officer. And he was then charged with one kind of kidnapping and he was accused of taking and then abandoning Camden. On August 22, 2021, federal prosecutors dropped the kidnapping related charge against Shannon. They haven't really ever said why, but I feel like it's probably so they could pursue kind of more serious charges. And by May of 2021, he was charged with second degree murder, tampering with evidence and also child neglect related charges. So I'm assuming those are in relation to Camden. He obviously left this two year old to wander around and you know hope that he would be found by someone. It was just pure luck that someone kind and helpful found him. So that is in relation to that. No, poor little kid. He was just being so confused. So after May 2021, the case became prosecuted by the state. The court record shows a succession of continuances with the case repeatedly being pushed back.

Among the dates that are documented in the case history, there was a continuance in December 2021. There was a reset in September 2022. Another reset in December of 2022 and another reset in March in 2023. So this is just something that has dragged on now for over six years. It kind of was so big, like such big news at the time and then it just died off. Like everyone I was going through and trying to find new updates and articles. There really hasn't been a whole lot in the last few years. Yeah, that's right. In 2022, those Shannon did speak from jail and this is a quote from local 10. It says, Shannon, a self-proclaimed witch told local 10's crime specialist Bridget Matter from the jail that he did not kill Lila. He said, I cannot go into the particulars of the case like that because this has been record. Because this has been recorded, but me and her had previous acquaintances together. Detectives, as we mentioned, said that they found Facebook messages that said Lila wanted to be Shannon's apprentice. And Shannon said he taught her how to read tarot cards. He went on to say, I teach witchcraft, things of that nature. Yeah, I do tarot card readings.

So by March of 2023, there did seem to be some movement in the case. The trial was originally scheduled for May of 2023, but Shannon's defense obtained another continuance. The trial was then moved to August in 2023. Spoiler alert, that trial did also not happen. It did also not happen. The case remained active throughout 2024. There was additional hearings, defense activity and depositions that were filed in court. Another continuance happened in June of 2024 and that pushed Matter's further with a calendar call scheduled for later that year. So we now kind of up to date, 2025, there were court records that referenced hearings concerning inspection of physical evidence in the case. And two hearings were listed for June 13th and June 30th of 2025. And that's about the inspection of evidence. So there is a court record for Shannon online. I'll link it on the blog, but according to that document, Shannon is scheduled for a jury trial this month, which is September 2026.

The case numbers linked on the blog. I went through all the court documents on there just to see what I could find. Basically, the most recent one is from the 4th of September, so literally just a few days ago. And it says, file states not of intent to rely on business records. The website does give you a preview of the case, but basically it talks about obtaining information from Facebook and other technology. So I feel like if they are still filing these documents, I don't think the trial is likely to happen this month. Surely not. If it's already one week into September and they haven't set a proper date for the trial, I know maybe it was meant to start this month. I would just be skeptical that it will actually start this month. There has been a ton of movement in the case this year, like I'm just looking at the court listings now. I would say there's probably at least maybe a hundred court documents on there from this year. Some of them are like one page file a court notice of hearing, a lot of just kind of basic court documents, but it does seem like things are picking up in the case.

I'm curious like what other evidence they have, you know, I feel like there's so much of the story missing. Even though I know he's spoken a little bit about his witchcraft, like I have so many questions. Let's say he did kill her allegedly, but why did he kill her? Was it an accident? Was there a fight? Was it part of some witchcraft ritual? I also am interested to find out. Because we do have the parts of the story about him being the witch. There's a ton of videos online. These videos are long and rambling. As we mentioned that we would have already probably put something by now. But I'm very interested in what else they have also. I agree. Yeah, like how did they connect like why did she convince to go to Florida? I get to be his apprentice. I was not even me. You know, like, yeah. So I'm just going to go this up. So the most recent court document, this is what they're requesting. Court data records from Florida Federal and other State Department corrections.

Certified prior felony convictions for Shannon Facebook slash meta surveillance footage. Vigilant solutions. Nine-mile minute audio sprint and information from waste management. So I don't know. I just I am I would be there's just nothing online about when this is going to start. I feel like it would surely be of public interest when it will start. It was such a big case. And it's just been dragging on and on and on. Maybe that's why I feel it's kind of fallen off the radar of a lot of people. Because it just seemed to have dragged on for so long. Yeah, and like no real new information has come out. Yeah, like for example, they one of the documents was where they want to hire. They're asking for a pre-border hire forensics like colleges that have cost of $5,000. So it does seem like the trial is being set up. I would be skeptical though based on the lack of confirmation, lack of media interest that it will go ahead in September. But according to these court documents, that is when it's meant to stop. Yeah, we'll see.

This is Dr. Laurie Santos from the Happiness Lab. Research on the science of happiness consistently points to the importance of social connection. The quality of the time you spend together matters a lot. We need social experiences that make us feel present and in the moment. That's why I've been thinking about how I can turn more of my shared experiences into rituals. Think setting a beautiful table and making even the little moments feel a bit special. These days I've been using the Barry Serving Platter from Simon Pierce. It's a hand-throwing piece of pottery with a weight and character that tells you that someone made this. It's shape is asymmetrical, a little unexpected. It's the kind of thing that earns a second look when it hits the table. A piece that's unique enough to remind me to be a bit more present, even when I'm just having an everyday dinner. That's what Simon Pierce has been doing for nearly 50 years, making glass and pottery by hand in the United States that bring something genuine to the moments that matter. So the FBI are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Layla's Wearabouts. As we mentioned, she has been missing since July 25th of 2020. The FBI, George Piro, who is a special agent from the FBI Miami, said the FBI is actively seeking information relating to the Wearabouts of Layla Kovet.

We are still relentlessly investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, may be important to finding Layla. We think those who have already provided information and urge other members of our community to come forward. And that's got a link for information where you can send it via tips or via phones. I'll pop that on the blog. And they go on to say the FBI, along with the Miramar Police Department and the Hollywood Police Department, continue their investigation. So in terms of updates, that's really it. As of the trial is meant to start. In terms of media articles, there was one in February where the FBI asked again for information about the case. In other than that, it's like 2020. Suspecting missing mum's case appears in 2021. Manfaces, motor charge in Layla's case. So every now and then over the years, there's been kind of an update. And are they often the media agencies who are rehash kind of cammed and being found wandering on a loan. And where Layla is, I personally think that's something I think is most likely that Shannon did something to Layla.

Whether or not it was accidental, maybe it was drug-related for example. Maybe they got into a fight, could be which craft related. Either way, I think he caused her death most likely. And I feel like he did put it in the landfill. I just tried to find someone, you know, remains when their days behind in a situation like that would be like absolutely like an Italy and a haystack. Yeah, I just, I agree. I just, I'm glad that he didn't harm Camden at least. Because it would be easy enough. What a Camden witness. What was going on there? I'm just looking up. So the size of the Brown County landfill is 588 acres, which is 238 hectares. So that is a massive area that they would have had to try and search. And I don't obviously want to get too graphic. But in terms of dumpsters, things are compacted just to try and find any remains with all the household garbage would be crazy. Yeah, especially at like a gas station.

Yeah. Yeah. Sadly, I don't really think there's much chance that Leila is alive. I guess the slight chance is that maybe she left Camden with Shannon and went off to study life. I just feel like it's very, very hunt highly unlikely. All the evidence seems to point to her body being dumped in dumpster and the landfill, which is very sad for her family. Horrible land, very undignified end. And hopefully this trial will commence this month and there will be some type of justice enclosure for her family. But yeah, so just make sure if you want to watch, like I just had a look Shannon's one video about Leila is 51 minutes long. Obviously, we will just include it as snippet in this episode. If you want to watch the whole thing, his Facebook and everything is linked on the blog if you want to check it out. It is a very interesting case. Even in terms of which. That's not no more. Yeah. When you talk about things like COVID, you know, she was probably a little bit vulnerable at the time too. He maybe promised her, I don't know, some type of new life. She was a struggling single mom with maybe there's any romantic relationship between the metal.

Yeah. In that post where he does thank the kind of inter-interrants and apprentices and all that. She's quite low down at least, but I guess it could have developed into something romantic. Very cult. Yeah, absolutely. I feel like she was looking up to him for guidance and maybe not assistance. But I feel like it was absolutely like a mentor type scenario that it started off as. Whenever she was interested in the witchcraft side of an spiritual type of things, he kind of prayed on her and groomed her and took advantage of her. So that's it for this episode.
