Winless Spurs remain goalless after another draw against Everton

Surely they have goals in this team, but to not score in the Premier League into football. I mean, our games are six hours now. Six hours of football is absolutely diabolical wherever way you look at it. They defended better today. I thought the two set the backs were better than what they had been, but just not enough. Salanki up front. I looked at the team. Well, that started to take shape, but no, they have to fight. But I think not scored in six hours of football. That's absolutely incredible. What did you make of them, actually? I thought they were poor, second half. I think the first 20 minutes, they showed signs that they were going to come out and they were going to be on front foot and they were great chances. But to all the end of the first half, I think, ever grew into it. And then the second half you thought, this is the opportunity. They're going to come out now, and they're going to create more and more chances. We spoke about Savio a half time, I didn't seem to go past with Glencoke. He kept coming back on his left foot and

3:12playing it inside. I think it was just taking the easy option. You want to see a midfielder or forward take on a fallback or play a ball into the striker's feet. You're in the box. There was one pass into Tellani. He played it back out the box. It's just too safe. There needs to be more risk being taken. You've been part of teams which have been expectively assembled with big pressure, big expectation. How do they get through this? They need to work on it and keep working on it. You saw the manager after the game they're talking to Tell, I don't know what he was saying about taking it on your back foot. As a professional, you're going to look at that and think, six hours, we've not scored a goal. It's a disgrace. It's not good enough at all. And there needs to be a big conversation amongst players. Players will talk and say, we've got to take this on ourself. We've brought in players and we're just not scoring goals. We're not creating the chances and we're not looking like a team that's going to score. They can't believe it. Can they? Seventeenth twice. And now this, having spent over 300 million pounds, this expensively assembled

4:16team so far has not delivered this time of this season. That sums up. That says it all. Doesn't that. That was two weeks ago. Never mind that. Four weeks ago. It's incredible. You spend 300 million pounds, it's the money and most expensive jigsaw puzzles in Premier League, probably assembling that. But it looks beautiful. We opened it up and there's two or three pieces missing. They've not got the right balance in that team. I know they're probably unfortunate this week. Mudrick picks up an injury. Might have been out of come on that left hand side. But trying to fit people in, that will be driving the manager mad because you can see he's trying different formations. He's trying to throw everything into it. He's bringing Madison into 10. Kudas into the 10. He puts 10 on the left wing and he puts him up front. Takes off Salanke. There's so many different problems that he's trying to solve in a game just to find a goal. But he just couldn't do it. It was nothing they did. I made you think that they was really going to open up or have a bit of quality. Sometimes you've got too many skillful players, too many flare

5:19players that want to try and go past people. But that face sums it up, it's an absolute honest and that one. That's the one. They're just stunned. They're stunned. Emerson fans delighted. Their team is still unbeaten. Picked up another point away from home against a team that beat them twice last season. We did get goals elsewhere today and plenty of them as well. And a first forest win for Oliver Glasner, Villa beating again. Just like last year, it's a really tricky start for them. Igor Jesus with the late winner after Liam Delapod scored for forest, Alesson had got the goal from Villa's perspective as he and Fleming off the mark for Ipswich Town who won away for the first time under Gario Neil this time at Sellhurst Park and why not. Big celebration in front of their fans. They've had a really good start to the season. As have whole city, this extraordinary start for them continues. They had Chelsea frightened today. Two goals from Ballumi had them leading until Shroud Pedro's late equaliser. Really good stuff. The eight points on the board already for whole city. We're only four games in and everyone

6:23had written them off. Four goals shared between Bournemouth and Brentford. Chelsea conceding two again. Ipswich has been seen beating Palace 3-2. It was always going to settle down at some point and once it did we started growing into the game and started to create our own chances. We were aware of the fact that they're not scored but still if you look at their plays in their team and even the substance that they brought on there are top-top sides so obviously not in great form at the minute themselves but they're

I think you and John Brownthweight really complement each other well obviously he's that injuries but if he gets a real run in the team it feels like you two could be formidable you know good in both boxes defend well if one's out of place you always seem to find that time to help each other you just got a really good balance. Yeah we've sort of worked on that at the time and Judd is an amazing partner to have next his strong as an ox rapid bullying on the ball two-footed communicates really well and we sort of grew together last year was difficult for him he didn't play many games and missed a lot of football but he's come back fit and flying I mean you see tonight the quality has got the matter tackles and box makes but also very composed and comfortable on the ball so hopefully that continues for him. I know you've come out spoken to us but what did the Gaffer say after was he was he pleased at that point or did he filled it maybe could have got the three. I mean we always we always want to win a game and obviously we did have an opportunity to score goals and when you've kept a clean sheet you're hoping you can you can get one from somewhere but we're a part of the role he's pleased and he talked about that everton spirit before the

11:37game and I think we showed that today and we know all the noise that was up in the round as over these last couple of weeks the squad's not massive but it's a strong squad there's lads in there that are young but have had a year to grow last season and we're pretty confident ourselves so there's a lot of noise but internally then we were striding to be ambitious and push and not too concerned about that noise on the outside. Yeah like you say James a lot of noise from the outside but as someone who's the elder statesman of this team if you like now what was your reflection looking on those last couple of days of the transfer window when you saw big players exit and perhaps not too much come the other way. Yeah I mean it's obvious what happened we missed out on a striker so we know we're short on that department at the minute but people just got a chip in and do a job when they have to as I just said we had some young players last year who were sort of growing and building and this season they've really kicked on I think Tyreeks the biggest show of that he's come back a different player this year he's exciting strong runs with the ball really well creative

12:41and he's not the only one that's four or five in there just like that so as I said internally we're ambitious we're not too concerned about that right now we've got enough players to go and play as long as I've got 11 to fill it on the pitch we're happy to go and as I said tonight we've got a point on the road and we've got three for the top and my chances. 14:46Barry header you know I think the goalkeeper turns his head and it just literally hits his head and goes out of play but you know I think the way that Everton grew into it you know I think they could have gone and got a free pitch the one with it Jews we all you know whether he sees Barry can slide to the left and then you know just play him in but they were patient here you know you're seeing weight and it goes to the left but then goes right quickly he falls the keypen is you know it's unfortunate but he's very relieved he was there yeah and this is great play here and do you know the pullback you see if you know for me when is Brennan Johnson get wrong here he's a player of course low on confidence but it's everything you know the way you see the side foot you know he's foot's far too open he's got a score for me he's got a score but like he says when players are long-consuming that there without a goal I think that's what it is he's long-on-conference he's it's a bad guy broke it's gone around top them that's what it is they want to so show you some what's a hard score you know I mean he's he's going to be disappointed with that after the game sure it's just a technique he gets it wrong he got to get over the ball cover it and he just

15:47leans back and he obviously then balloons out to the right big opportunity for him but they had a couple of really good chances and I think that's what probably David Moiser we say to the players we've got to be a bit more clinical I think Tyreek George I like I like listening to James Ebb's he was talking about Tyreek George because hasn't always been easy for him when he came in that opportunity is in on of the bench but then he's obviously come back preseason and I thought you saw I've got to come back quicker I got to come back stronger I got to come back and really challenge and as you I go in probably gives him a bit more of an opportunity to play as well so I thought you did well to that times you know he had the beating of the of the right back and actually great times there's a good battle down that side but it's good to see him doing well more everton reaction for you now two more members of the back for mekelingo and Jared Brantwe both with David Craig Jared Vitale another big everton performance Jared would be spoke before the game we talked about this mentality of this small group back against the wall did we see again what that can achieve with the right attitude and mentality yeah 100% I think you know you look at the game from the

16:49start they've came up fast to under pressure for I would say 15 20 minutes of the first half and you know we dug deep to stay in the game you know put our body on the line and we grew into the game I thought in the first half towards the end of it and then I think you see it in the second half we've shown that mentality again but also we've had chances to win the game I think as well so yeah I think like I say that bucks the wall mentality he's going to get as long with what he's getting a long way is the partnership between you four at the back two of you are stood here how close and knit a group are you and how much work has gone into that drilling yeah I think you know if you can keep clean sheets you'll go a long way in the league and I think you'll you pick up lots of points and you know as a back for it's not just not just does it's the whole team you know from the wingers the midfielders and strikers all working hard so yeah to team effort. Vitaly how good is this group and how much are you enjoying playing in your role in contributing what you are at this moment in time this group a group is so good a few of weeks ago I said in interview like this is probably the best group wherever I see in in Everton since I came so

17:56I'm happy to play with them and also I'm happy to see Jared back this season and I enjoy to play with him he's going to be very complimentary about you in a moment but how good is the big man being alongside you he's supporting always he always at the back and like I know he will he will tackle the debacle if I lose the ball or lose my winger so thank you so much for help I know you're a bit frustrating he's going to get another award but come on he deserves it no yeah he was very very good today I think you know the wingers wings of spurs are very tricky one V1 and I think you know me go that would whoever came on his side all game and you know the quality has defensively and going forward as well it's a massive bonus for us as a team and I think you see that today Vitaly obviously we know it's not the biggest group but if you can all keep your fitness how big a surprise could you be in the Premier League this year given that the troubles you're causing one or two teams this year we've spent big money hopefully we'll we'll get your

22:09to keep a hundred clean sheets in the Premier League I'm hoping he's going to give me a pounder back to giving someone him clean sheets anyway but you know when you when you've got a goalkeeper behind you're so confident because he's so loud and seriously he's a goalkeeper at the shirts that everyone on the pitch I can shout out the fans you see what he's like there's a reason why he's England's number one he's been fantastic for years and years and like I say he's a fantastic sum for this club but you know like I say you know he's good for his feet he's good for his hands there's so many question marks that have been about picks and he always stands up to him and again and again I don't think anybody can say anything about him 100 clean sheets is phenomenal what do the Everton players think of him that is crazy but he's crazy but everyone knows when he comes into training he's on it you know he's hard to be in training what's the do the right things every day day in day out and you know that's why I think he's England's number one and he will be for as long as he wants to be good ever to actually surprise people then yeah I do

23:13think so you know I said before David Moise knows that he's got a small squad but he's worked through small squads before and I think you you see wherever now that there's something in the table that if you said that at a start of season or when the window's shut you're going to be seven kept two clean sheets they'd be more than happy with that like I say I think that you know they've got to take the the positives out of today obviously getting a draw but be a bit more clinical in front of the goal yeah and go and get them and have the opportunities to say I don't know what we're coming to win not just staying with men behind the ball but I think you're going to be very happy with with a point here at the club and they got a similar problem so maybe what Tottenham have had I know that's not been at this stadium for a long time now but they still haven't found like a consistent season there being at home and turning that home because I was remembering you know going to good as him's that fortress it was horrible it was always difficult to play it how important is they get their home form going that's going that that feels like could be a make a difference for them as well I think that's going to be massive from you know I've seen teams go to hill dicks and stadium and it's it's tough they want to make

24:17hill dicks and exactly like what good as some was like I say it was the tough place to go I went there as a opposition and I hate going there it was horrible as long as they've got the fans with them the fans will be backing them as they see people running you know working their heart out for the badge and you know it is a brilliant place that speaks to the boys where they've said you know playing at hill dicks and stadium is brilliant when the fans are with you so I think if they they build on their their home form you know I think away from home they're going to play a lot of men behind a born time play countertacking football especially when they're at home I finally get on the front foot they go out teams and you know when they've got the roar that crowd behind them I think it's going to be difficult for everything that goes there let's talk about Spurs now and this this wait for a goal unfortunately goes on for them it's now four games and six hours at the start of this season without scoring but still some way short of the record it's in 2718 by that Crystal Palace side which was under Frank DeBourren then Roy Hodgson came in and managed to have an incredible impact on the team Jamie did you sense I mean James Sarkovsky

25:18spoke about it there how tough that opening was yeah did you sense this was when we watched those opening ten minutes that this was going to be the night for Spurs yeah well I said it before having I still can't really on talking to have hasn't been a goal but I did feel there were they came out really fast which they haven't done in previous games obviously been coached last couple of weeks because not a midweek game so much and there were a lot of positives I thought look at Savino going in behind the good bit of opposite movement but can you play the ball across your right foot now he checks back but then you see these sorts of things he takes a touch did it first time there's your opportunity it's wasted and I think a lot of the top of the hot spot players right now are just second guessing themselves Van Hecker plays the ball into them there brilliant shoot shoot instead two three four touches takes too long and I think that was like indicative of what they were playing like today just second guessing themselves Roberson was playing obviously high this is a this is a good block brilliant bright brand weight there this one here this was the charge you can see Bergfeld gets it into a position opens his body up tries to bend in that corner and that's what pick foot is in goal four keep saving you three points

26:18you sets that out perfectly look you think that's going to drift in great goalkeeping there and he just obviously gets himself a put gets his team a point there but that was really probably there there one moment there's spark but the first 20 minutes I was like yeah that's more like what I want to see but after that they lose a bit of confidence there was a moment I think it was 50 odd minutes when someone had a shot and all the crowds start going it's not great you know that connection with the fans and the players is not there now I don't know when they're going to get their first home win it might even go on for longer this but I do still see some positives I cannot stay this way with the players they have in a disposal there are things that I don't like and it's obvious to see down that left-hand side Andy Robertson was your wide left player he was your left back and your wide left my move wanted to come inside as well and play with Selanki that balance didn't really work so I think you're very lopsided in what you're trying to do obviously if you have a muddrick playing out on the left that might be an option he's going to be out for a while so trying to get the best squad and the best team at the moment is what the problem is has to solve

27:23in midfield I think that the balance isn't right up you know with Benson Cull has sit in and then you've got Fernandez and Tanali three similar sort of players in a way I think somehow you've got a find a way of getting a kudos into the 10 or you've maybe got to get Madison if he gets fit I'm not sure I could have Chesky's going to be but he would be one that I would certainly fit in this team once he gets fit but he's going to be out for a while it seems as well so trying to find the right balance and even as a like we played we know we know we understand football to a large degree but even I'm looking to thinking how would I change it what how can I get the best out of this team there are at the moment more questions and answers and I'm sure he's in there thinking like he tried everything today every he flipping over that coaching manual nonstop trying to find a way a system to open up and get a goal foreverton he couldn't find it the quality wasn't there but they have got quality players they're not just they're not playing anywhere near as well as what they can goal the straw the first ever in the Premier League there but we will hear from deserve it in just a moment on Sky Sports Premier League

39:14to leave now what we don't we're not privy to the club still there he's still that's what I'm saying but we wanted to leave he didn't want to be there and the manager's probably thinking right now any players that want to play want to be around the squad so I don't look at that as a as a as a bad mistake well I think did surprise me actually got 11 goals last year because he didn't feel like he had 11 goals season but he's never going to be prolific they've got other players there I still think they're one or two players short because didn't have spent as much money they have the balance of the squad isn't quite right you know Marmou stood and played a lot of football last year you know it's very difficult for him you're you're playing up against Harlan Harlan's obviously a better player than what he is you know Matthias Fernandes not a lot of goals in him he didn't go to the World Cup imagine a lured into the fact the players go into the World Cup he didn't go to now he didn't go to the World Cup so these players should relatively be fit so now he didn't score for Newcastle last season so if that is midfielders in area that might be a problem as well so I asked the same question now I've been watching another 90 minutes another 90 minutes of evidence who's going to get the goals for spurs this season well you've got a real happy reliant on people like Marmouche you've got to look at him as a goal as a ball

40:15as a nine or playing off the side I mean he played he had one year in Germany as a nine which was obviously prolific at Frankfurt was he I'd track Frankfurt I think it was then he went and had a good season then he goes to Man City and he looked really good in his first season but Pep sort of thought fell out of love with him or whatever whatever reason which is understandable because of the options they've got is he an out and out fox in the box is he like a vanist or was he one of those players are going to be getting scruffy goals no you know it feels like his best goals are always from distance because he's a wonderful striker of a ball so they haven't perhaps really got that side of it right you know I don't really look at Kudas as an out and out goal scorer he's a creator you know he can jink in and out you know Madison maybe but they haven't really got that out and out goal scorer because I look at Salanki you know 15 appearances last year as an injury he's your focal point he's your number nine that is those numbers are not good enough in this day and age and if you're looking at other strikers at smaller clubs getting a lot more goals than that so that is a there they have to fix the only positive one of the positives I will say is clean sheets

41:17because the last few games I did a new castle game when they were really porting the back I thought and I was very critical on a Mickey van de Venne of what he was excellent today and that part the ship at the back looked a lot better than what it has previously so they are the positives and if you can keep clean sheets you know inevitably you will score goals I do believe they've got enough quality to score goals it will have they can't keep not scoring goals you're just not going to happen but next week they go Liverpool midweek then they've got Astin Villa at home we were obviously in transition themselves they've got to find a way with that group hash to get goals let's have a look at those those games that they have got coming up do you think that Liverpool one is it is a big game yeah definitely I think that you know when you you haven't been scoring goals you go into that that competition you're like this this is a chance to to get through into another round that competition but also for players to get confidence to go and you know get them plans go and get them goals get assists to then build on that for the next few fixtures that you got coming up you got Astin Villa at home again you got you know it away a billet desperate for the points given

42:17their star which is which is going to be another tough game I don't see an easy game to be on his four no that will be the deal no no no no that's not gonna give you what it was like when you was obviously united and you know it's great success there and I'll try to think back into my career when there were times when as a team maybe you weren't scoring goals what are you doing coach from a coaching perspective you just think let's do some finishing drills let's maybe just work on crossing shooting getting into areas just to get that confidence the players hitting the back of the net because right now that feels so foreign to them I think that's exactly what they they're gonna be doing I think deservedly you're probably seeing training no less scoring And that's the thing, you see that in training, you think, right, it's going to come out on the weekend. And it's just not happening. But you're going to keep on trying it as much as you can, like Dezurbey will be doing with the players. The players will be doing it in training and then thinking, right, it's going to come, it's going to come. What they need is just a scruffy goal. That's exactly what it is. You get a scruffy goal. Those four games that they've got coming up that they played last season against Manu, Villa, Chelsea and Palace, they lost all four of those last season.

43:19Sorry. A chance to put things right. And just for balance as well, in terms of goal score is getting double figures. I think the Champions Arsenal only had one last year. 45:22How do you assess that today? I thought we were under the course rule enough in the first minute but I thought once again the players stuck it at it. What we knew were going to be under pressure. I thought we were desperate looking for a win. As are we but then being at home put his under pressure right from the start and I thought it made it really difficult in the first 20 minutes especially. Just how well did you cope with that threat particularly in that opening few minutes? I thought we cope brilliantly well we we blocked a couple of really important shots. I don't think the goal we had many saves to make but we had to fill the box and make sure that we didn't allow them in and try to reduce the spaces for them to play in. They played well taught them. It times played really well on the ball made it difficult for us but we stuck to a task. How much did the combination of a clean sheet and some moments of real attacking threat plays you today as well? Well I think we've been playing a lot better than we played today and I thought we turned the ball over a lot with chances to do better with the ball.

46:23When we got the ball it broke down too often for my liking which gave taught them more impetus to keep going. So probably as far as it goes it was probably not the best game with the ball today. That was for sure because we have been doing pretty well. The back four looks very very solid indeed. As someone who's played in that position you know all about it. How impressed are you with the way that unit is operating at this moment in time? Well I think with the boys at the back and the goalkeeper as well. You know there's a real resilience to try and make sure we don't concede any goals. The goalkeepers get a great record for clean sheets and any got another one today. But I have to say the likes of Jared, Miko I thought played really well today and Tarky. And Maitland now needs a mention as well because he came in and he'd done very well for the first game. So really pleased with that. How much does this group excite you with what you've got to work with? Do you know what excites me? It excites me that it's I've got a job but I have to probably try and prove a few wrong and we have to probably come from behind because obviously we don't have all the

47:26all the tools now to to probably challenge all the top teams. So we're going to have to fight for everything in the league and I think I think here and at Bournemouth and recently as well we've had to come from behind in games and we've shown we can do that as well. From a man who's perspective and you're clearly very experienced, you've been there, seen it, done it. How much do you enjoy that test of going up against it when you've got your backs to the wall? Now I think I might have rather had the 300 or 400 million Tottenham had to spend. I think I've felt a bit better with that but I think when you've not got it then you've got to find a way of trying to get a result or winning or obviously trying to take some from all the games. So we've played well and often some games to win. We've played well and off with the ball. Today was a really good defensive organisation which kept us in the game for long periods. You've got players clearly with talent and you've got players with character. We saw Jack Grillish coming into the fray today. Does his ability harness with that talent as well and that character? Does that excite you and is that something that can really add to this team as he

48:29grows? Well, Jack comes in and shows the form he did for the last season he'll be thrilled. Go ahead remember Jack's been out for six and a half months and not played so he's always wanting to game. He loves his football and he's always wanting to be in the team which is great but no we also want to make sure we bring him back and do the right things but he's good for us. He really does. He's good. But Tyree George has started the season well, gotten a goal and in playing well so we've got a little bit of competition which is great. Seventh in the Premier League tonight you're still in the carabell cup as well. Two game week ahead how much are ever to improving people wrong? Well I don't know if it's proven them wrong. I hope that I would like to have said that people were hoping and expecting it. It wouldn't be challenging and then around it. Obviously that's not quite as possible but but you know what I've said there a bit earlier you know we have to try and win some games which may be well unexpected. 49:33That's exactly how he is. He's always been like that and you know I don't think he's ever going to change. You know I'm not really sure that he would have wanted the 300 million to be honest. He likes a tight knit group and you know if they were able to go out and I think that you know of course a number nine is what he would have wanted. He would have wanted to get another body in which they tried to do but it wasn't possible and probably another fallback. I know mate and I's can cover both sides but you know I've had a nut I think that the team and the squad you know they've got players there that can can fill in if Tihanna Barry isn't playing. You know Tariq George can play there Jack Greenish can play on the left you know Brian Johnson on the right can juice me all win the and the number 10 so you know I think he's going to be happy with today. It definitely be happy with a point a way to top them. You made the point Jamie a big spend brings big pressure doesn't it? Yeah more money more problems. You tell me. I think that's right but I think some I've got 300 million over a couple of windows

50:40you know but not necessarily one where you're trying to you know do everything together like what you know you can see it's been hard for top them and the managers now thinking I've got all these players at my disposal how do I fit them all in? I think David's I think Ash is right what David is probably wants is just one or two just to thicken up the squad and a little bit of extra quality when you lose and Jai is a wonderful player I love watching him play he's a big loss for them you need to get Jack Greenish fit and up to speed he's been out for a while as the manager says but there are still some positives because one thing they've always had and he's always had his teams they have spirit and their desire and they run and they chase and they get results when they're back against all a little bit like it did last week. Resilience that was the word he used to David Craig there which has helped them to this unbeaten start which continued tonight at Spurs with that goal of straw and five games in with the Carabao Cup game as well I think they would have absolutely taken that so it becomes already a big week in the season for Everton you know the Everton fans that I would speak to actually would say that that wolves game there championship opposition in the Carabao Cup there is a chance to have a little run in a competition

51:44would you get that same sense? Definitely you know I think that there hasn't been a decent enough cup run in Everton's history for the last few years that you know they've got an opportunity to you know have a walk on wolves to hill digs and stadium and get into that next round and then you know you look at a they're fixed after that it switched at home as well you know two home games that that's what they want to build on they want to build on what they've started this season improve under you know the the performance today go through in the cup and then you know get switched to the hill digs and and try and get three points there they almost got three points tonight there was a very good free kick that we saw in the game but unfortunately for Everton Kinski managed to keep it out they just need someone like our man actually we promised it earlier we've got the goal the last Everton to score a direct free kick that's a great free kick there it is oh somebody I've seen the wall when I and that's why it was definitely the wall what celebration it was the knowledge he's got on re it was there that's what I'm not sure I've
