On April 26th, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service just dropped an urgent warning after six wildfires already hit the area this year in 20. 26. That's on top of a huge spike last year, with 38 blazes in 2025, way up from before. They're bracing for summer with drier weather, ramping up the risks on those moors. Earlier this month, eight fires popped off in just 24 hours across Greater Manchester, Derby Shire, and West Yorkshire, Moorlands. Two kicked off on Saddleworth Moors on April 7th, spots notorious for repeat burns from folks tossing cigarettes or firing up barbecues. Roads got shut down between oldem and Huddersfield, smoke blanketed everything, and people were told to steer clear while crews battled the flames. Evacuations happened around Dovstone Reservoir 2, echoing past headaches like the massive 2018 fire that scorched seven square miles and booted out 150 locals. As 2021, 83 wildfires have scorched Greater Manchester, and firefighters are grinding

in tough terrain with special gear. Just to keep up, recent ones stretched them thin for hours in remote spots, protecting communities, wildlife, and infrastructure. Officials are pushing the Be More Aware campaign, hard no barbecues, fires, or fireworks on the moors. Pack out your trash and dial 9999 at. The first sign of smoke. Use the real MVPs here, so step up and keep those moors safe before summer turns of the heat.
