I'm Katrina Stangline, and this is Daily Life. Okay, so I need to confess something. I am so afraid of the dark. And it makes me feel like a kid, honestly, just to even say that out loud, but I really do just freak out when I have to do anything without a whole bunch of light around me. And I actually look this up and apparently only 30% of adults share this fear with me. But what I'm saying is when you are walking through your house in the middle of the night and it's pitch dark, there is no way that number's not 100%. There's no way people aren't afraid of that. It is scary. And honestly, in moments like that, you don't even need all the lights on in your house. You just need something, a little bit of light, a phone, a flashlight, just something that will help you move forward. That's the picture that I think of when I read Psalm 271, it says this. The Lord is my light and my salvation. So why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress protecting me from danger. Why should I tremble? You know, so often when we talk about God being our light, this image comes up all the time in the Bible and we think about it as comfort. Light is warmth, light is safety, and that's true. But think about this, light isn't just for comfort, it's for clarity. Light shows us where to go. And so when David says, the Lord is my light, he's not just saying God shows me everything. He's saying God shows me enough. God shows me enough for the next step, enough not to just freeze in fear. God shows me enough to move forward with trust in his light. Because honestly, when we think about this, a lot of us want from God, it's like stadium lighting, right? We want this full vision, the full plan, the guaranteed outcome for the path ahead. But I think so much more often, God works like that little flashlight in our house.
When you're walking through the dark at night, it doesn't show you your whole house. You don't see the layout of every room, but it gives you just enough light to take the next step without tripping. I mean, that's exactly how God leads us. And so you might be feeling uncertain or in the dark right now. Maybe it's a job decision, like, do I stay? Do I leave? Do I wait? Maybe it's something with your kids. How do you support them without controlling them? Maybe finances or health of relationship or that's just a decision you've been praying about for a long time here, this. You don't need the whole path today. You just need the next faithful step and God has already lit the way for you. The Lord is your light and you're not walking in the dark. Let me pray for you. God, you are our light.
