A group of rock music loving students with the help of the Ramones take over their school to combat its newly installed oppressive administration? Wow. Wow. Wow, bar. Okay, Carl. Straight up, one of the highest rated films were done on the podcast. Yeah, we're kind of only doing, uh, I thought we've watched it. We'll go back in time. But, uh, I'm surprised people critics were like, yep, great. So fuck yeah, I love it so much. Uh, Carl, do you go right to Who Last Week before we had seen the film? Oh, when we were trying to predict who we thought would watch it? Yes. Yes. I love to go back. I love to go back. Oh my god. Time.

1:00It's an illusion. Time. Carl, we're doing rock and roll high school. Okay, we're doing rock and roll high school. From 1979. That's the year. That's the year the one before 1980. When was puffing stuff? Have we got older than puffing stuff? I don't. Uh, I thought for one year I wanted to do like citizen game for maybe like like a Christmas special or something. I think this might be still puffing stuff was mid-70s. Yeah. Is that the oldest we've ever done? I feel like, oh, maybe legend. You know what, maybe puffing stuff is the oldest. I feel like what jam was 80s? Yeah, I think it was 80s. Oh, no, who've done older than 70s. I'm a couple of bad. Yeah, I guess we're measuring. We have a 70s podcast. Not for the. Yeah, imagine that. Could we answer that? I mean, it's just B films. And at that point, it's a graphic poem. You know, so it's like, yeah, sure, I guess. You know, the lighting is a bit okay, you know. It's fine. And the skin tone is delicious. Oh, my God. It's bathing in that red. But, Carl, this was an email suggestion from lovely Kate from New Jersey.

My recommendation is rock and roll high school from 1979 starring the Ramones about a punk high school girl who rebelled against her strict principal and eventually brings the Ramones into the chaos. I watched it constantly growing up because my dad was friends with Joey Ramone and worked in the music industry. So the movie had a real special place in my heart. It was completely wild and hilarious and has since become a cult classic. Thank you for all the hard work you guys do and go for some hard times. That's beautiful. Thank you very much, Kate. Absolutely gorgeous. And I couldn't come at a better time. Yeah, honestly, I feel like everybody's having a bit of a tough 2026. Not me. Not me. I want the lottery. Could you believe that? 4:05It's a flick. It's a flick. Yeah. So I don't know anything about it. Maybe at the moment in the phase of my life where I know a lot about film cinema released in like my sphere of what I enjoy. I was like, well, I'm going to go into this. Not knowing anything. It's free. It's on to be guys. And I got to tell you. And again, it's my weekly special guys. I've been pushing it. But oh my God, guys, it's got again. A bunch of good films you might like a bunch of stuff from the 20s, a bunch of 70s porn and then just an array of like the worst reality TV shows you've ever seen. They got them all. Even the ads are porn. Even the ads are like, you ever tried this? Do you like? No, I'm a lot of people on the diet. All right. Try love honey. Just going to get sucked in. Fuck you like, all right. Yeah, that's fair. You know, they're like a little bit like you into older women. It does sort of feel like you're on like a porn hub until a full film place.

5:09Yeah, and then there's a Scientology ad and it kind of wakes you up and go, oh my God, am I, am I, I guess I'm associating it? It's so good. Honestly, if you're into like old cinema, you'll love old ads. Yeah. They're even a bit fricking like, you know, like a German expressionism, all the ads, you know, they've kind of gotten like what we do, a matte painting on the black, you know, we're selling an opiates. You're like, all right, and I'll buy. I feel like we're minutes away from just reviewing ads on TV. I'm not even kidding. Sometimes I'm like, well, this is gorgeous. This is just so beautiful. And honestly, some of them are a little AI. So yeah, no, they're all, they're all AI, it seems like they're all AI from like three years ago. So like we can't really get faces yet, but we'll sell you medicine. A lot of them are like, we've just bought that subscription on chat JPL where we can generate images, but not video. And so we'll do that. We've got stills, a lot stills. Got a lot of stills and that's going to sell you a lot of pills. Stills equals pills that will pay double bills. Oh my god, it's a whole thing. It's really good. That's a snowboard seriously to be sponsored. Yes, God, I would love it.

6:10Isn't it crazy? They got the soup bowl like last year. I couldn't believe that. They were like, we've been selling free garbage from FAA, just bucket we paid for the soup bowl. And they deserve it. They have some of like letterboxes top 250 on there. I'm constantly watching shit on TV. Yeah. So I feel like we're seconds away from trying to get to be just sponsored. I want to be to sponsor us constantly. I think it's a great. Don't even have to pay us. No, exactly. What money? Yeah. I once emailed them because I was watching. It's the one where a woman, sorry, a man who's like a CEO becomes a woman. And that's like the plot is just like, but you used to like be assaulting to women. And now you're a woman. And the frame was half broke. Like it was, the thing was broken. Yeah. I said to them, and he was like, hey, just by the way, this is broken. And they went, yeah, we know. I was like, okay, good for you to me. Was that the Kevin Spacey film nine lives? It was not nine lives. Oh, okay. It's crazy we haven't done nine lives yet. Well, I mean, I just don't want to platform spacey.

7:12How do we feel about that? I agree. But I got to tell you telling him that night. If his legacy is nine lives, I think he's not happy about that. Well, his legacy is I'd love to get to the point where we have enough money to go and fly and go to his like piano show on that random hotel. And be like, how was he? Who would watch Kevin Spacey's piano show? What if we were moved? Like what if he's innocent now? But I just, if we came back and being like, he played piano with all 10 fingers, he couldn't have done it. He couldn't have done everything he said he did. Would you believe swinging jazz was his forte? Yeah. I wouldn't believe it. I was like, have you ever listened to his like Bill Ma in a view? Oh, like his new wish one. Yeah. So I remember him all doing all the Christmas things and I think it stopped. What's the Bill Ma one? It's just Bill Ma basically being like, where does smoke, where does fire? How do you feel about that? And he's like, I did it a handful of things, but not all of it. And I'm like, buddy, you're gross.

8:12I don't like either of you. You're both disgusting. I feel like Bill Ma always has just the most gross levy seats and a big cigar and just like, can we get rid of woke? And it's just like what's going on here? He is somebody so upset at the internet. I'm like, take a chill pill. You are, it is fine. Just go away. Bill Ma is the oldest man in the world. He's like a slug with glasses. I just think he's disgusting. No, but he's actually pretty good. No, but he's insightful. He's very insightful. Carl, rock and roll high school. 9:13So do you know what the, I'm enough. I don't even know. This could be dare I say a horrible flick in the sense that like, it's just good. Yeah. It could be anything again, guys. We don't just just service anything. Well, we've seen some crap on to be. Yeah, we've seen some like, that's the thing. But it's almost normally avant-garde or it's more like so B movie that it's good in a sense, you know? Like it would be like, this is pretty bad. And it's like the rotten tomatoes eating you. It's like, what do I expect? What do I expect? You know? Yeah, I am, I am came to watch something I don't know anything about. Yeah. If you do have a recommendation about a movie, you think we've never heard of. If you recommended, I think I'm happy to keep going into these blinds. Yeah. I'm happy to be challenging myself on this. Who do we think would watch it? Wolf. Man, rock and roll high school. I don't know. A guy with a guitar. That was my one.

10:13I love being like, wow, it feels like we're super old. I guess they're a punk band from the 80s. So I don't really feel like I'm like, I'm trying to connect with the kids, but the kids are 65-year-old dads. And I'm just like, oh, come on, guys, I love those guys with their hair and their pants and whatnot. And I assume they have leather in regarding... Leather, man. Yeah, yeah. I see you going for guys with guitars, I'm going for leather, man. Leather, man. Guys who are just in the leather, but not sexually and just more like it for its sturdy material. I'm talking to cowboy. Women into asless chaps. Many women are. Many women are. How could you not be? Yeah. And I feel like that's where this film lands from title alone. Yeah, I think so. I'm excited to find out if we've got anybody of merit in the film because a part of me's thinking this is just film with no ones. Yeah. I'm sort of thinking it's like, have you ever seen sleep away camp? No, I'm thinking this is more like, what's that? The Spice World one.

11:14I'm thinking it's like a Spice World from the moment. We got the remote. The remote surely didn't have the money for a Spice World. I mean, they had the money, but I mean, I think in the 70s, they'll kind of crap and out anything. So I'm scared this is just a remote heavy flick and I'm like, I am not getting the reference. Were the remote's first or something? They like kind of like invented punk. Okay, great. Yeah. Great. Or they might have been the most popular. I don't know. I for all I know is that... If you're upset at Oscars coming about whether the remote is invented. I live just said like the Beatles really were pretty bad in the 60s. They really came. I don't know. I know they're a punk band. I know they're quite famous of that. The Beatles created pop. Prevals say that. People say that. And then she did. Or jazz, one of the others. I thought the Beatles were rockish. I guess they're popish. Breffa, it's pop rock. You're gonna be... What even is rock? It's like a guitar and shit, you know? Everything's got a guitar now. No, no, no. Nelson Boone uses a guitar. He's not calling him... He's not using a pencil. He's meant to move his guitarless.

12:15There's a beautiful guitar... He's done. I feel like Skrillex popped on the scene. Why don't we go... Don't use the guitars anymore. And they weren't great. Fantastic. What about the shackers that had? What about your music? Who are you? Carl, when do you go? What do you go? It's a bad vibe. But Spotify only really gives me Olivia Dane. That's it. And it's like, oh, there's no other artist in the world that I'm like Spotify would know. Goal. It's rock and roll high school. It's rock and roll high school. How are you feeling? What's your vibe? Wow. Okay, so basically switched on to be. Yeah. Um, wasn't prepared for what I got. Was it the home page of Tooby or the movie where we watched? Well, let's, let's, if we wanted to begin at the beginning of it. I think Tooby has the best intro for any streaming out. It's really addictive. I think there's nothing... I think that's the best. Tooby! Tooby! It's just really good. It's like way better than... Dun dun. Do you remember they were like, we got Hans Imagut that my giver shit?

13:16Yeah, I'm like, I'm going to rap. Who's the artist that did Tooby? Yeah, because that's, that's priceless baby. Um, switched on to be. Turn this on. Was not expecting a spoof film? Yeah. I don't know. I was, I was a bit concerned when watching it. Because immediately the first guy got me. Yeah. I went, oh no, this is bad. Because if it's a comedy film, we're up shit Sally. We have a straight up rule. Don't do comedy. Yeah. Because we can't really talk about them. You can't really talk about a movie that's not trying to be sincere. Yeah. Um, but... It is. It's a fault note. We hate sincerity. I've never said I love you doing another human being. Um, so I think immediately I was taken aback by going, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. The vibe of this movie from 1979, this movie kind of feels influential. I was picking up a lot of what it was putting down. I wasn't expecting that from the movie. I really thought we were being given something bad,

14:18but I think we were actually given something kind of, kind of before it's time. I think so. It starts with pretty much like we open like on a big high school sort of like a big opening shot. And this guy walks in, looks at the map and goes, you are here, looks down. He's always a big ex where he is. And immediately I'm like, fuck, that's immediately really good. I think I was looking at like what was around this time. I feel like I feel like people go animal houses the first comedy movie. Yeah. Which feels crazy to me. Which is when? 75. It's just a SNL. When's error plane? 80s. Is it? It's 80. Wow. No one of this movie feels ahead of its time. Yeah. And then it's like, what's the reason? What's the reason? The reason why it's so crazy to me is because this was a movie that had like the editing of an error plane. I was quite, it's very 70s a sense of like we've got a big camera. And we're kind of doing a wide and comedy can work in a wide quite like well. But it feels a bit sort of, we've got a joke in the foreground, go nuts.

15:22Where is error plane feels very precise in the sense that we've got the setup. It really does use film for a comedy. I feel the movie is like hitting around that like 90 minute mark. And I feel like I'm watching a movie that really should be 80 minutes. Which is just cut 30 seconds out of every scene. Everything seems slightly, there's just a beat too long. But also in 1979, you can't really critique that before comedy's really found its voice. Totally. In this sort of spoofie era. You can jump into it in the sense that I think this movie begins so big. It begins in the sense that I even feel like Greece takes from the level of how this movie wants to start. And straight up I want to say I wish more characters were a name tag like Tom. That helps. That is a great character choice for us as podcasts people. Because constantly I like I go into I can't go I recognize the actor. I write bill and sometimes I don't ever say the bill name bill it in the whole thing.

16:22I'm like, do I have a really cool bill now? This seems crazy. Yeah. It's car gonna pick up that bill. No, but Tom. It's sewn on to him. Here's three characters I know. Tom. Riff Randall. And Clint Howard. I. Yes. We've also got the job who's new to school. We've also got the science freak Kate. Now they're sort of its own sort of story. It's a classic three story structure. We've got Kate and Tom trying to get it on. We've got a riff raff who's doing her own thing. Yeah. And then we got the remote. But we're going to the opening. I do sort of thing. Riff Randall is one of the best names I've ever heard of my fucking life. I think riff Randall is a killer name. It's strong. It's so strong. I immediately pitched to my house. I'm like, how do we feel about this? It was like, but that's what we've been out last night. Yeah. We're going to be riff. I'd be Randall. Yeah.

17:22Yeah. We both changed. I'm like, it's not about kids' names. It's about who we are. And I've dibs to riff. Yeah. You tell me I'm not riff. My job is to riff. I'm so good. You be a marative comedian. It feels very cool on that regard. But yes. So we get introduced to us into the school. It's a classic 70s school. We're getting a lot of just like visual gags. I'm really loving, you know. So many. It's kind of a mile a minute. Yeah. Like it is really quick. You miss it. Yeah. Everything like that. I'm really on board. It feels so much like, um, I guess the modern example is, is it not another teen movie? What's the one with, um, not chanting tape? I'm captured America. Yeah. Chris Evans is not another teen movie. I was getting that vibe as well. Yeah. I think, I think a real issue with this one is that I don't think it has, uh, interesting enough spine to the film. Yes. It sort of feels, it feels like it's bumming around a bit. It's fucking around. And I'm happy with that. But then I guess you get the remones, uh, like we've got the remones thing going on for that. And that's fine.

18:23I feel like you're going for, I guess back then you couldn't see the remones on YouTube. You'd be like, let's go see that movie. So I'm just going to go see them perform. Yeah. But it is just them performing at the, like in the, right, the end of right five songs and then the end. And then this kind of first hour feels odd. Yeah. I'm enjoying it. But it is kind of a pointless feeling. It is sort of the, I would say personally for me could be different for you. I prefer the first half to the second half of the film. Yeah. And I think it's when it turns into more of a concert experience with some gags. And I'm going, I think if these characters had more of a through line, I'd be way more into this because your sight gags are phenomenal. Yeah. They're so funny. They're so visual. It feels like the Simpsons. I think, I think my favorite one, I think the best one, the whole thing is essentially, we get introduced to the principal. Yes. Is it tough or tough? I can't remember what her, it's either way the actress deserves a throw. Oh my gosh. She's phenomenal. She's so good. It's Miss Toga.

19:24Yeah. She is like giving this like Nazi drag. Yeah. I'm not going to explain it. It's really funny. I feel like I love in the 70s. They were just like, let's make fun of those guys. Yeah. It feels like that was such an easy like now it's all dicey. Yeah. Like a caricature of this like a foritative figure. And she's like, yeah, I feel like she's like in drag. I feel like she's in a bunch of other things. She looks familiar as an actress. And I think this level of performance is what I really like where I'm going. You're going broad in the performance. And I think it's something that really works about Sean Penn's performance in one battle after another. Yeah. Is I think I miss actors going broad if they're the broadest in the film. So they're just standing out the whole time. When everybody's broad, it sort of pushes the movie to a whole other thing. And that's like it might even be like, this is a comedy film. Surely everyone else is broad. Everyone's pretty straight back. Like I think everybody else is really laid back in their performance. But she's really uptight about it in such a compelling way where all of her jokes really

20:28land. Yes. Yes. Constantly. She has got a great little like just like, I don't know, like a B here like standard. So really funny little things. I was just like, wow. I love this dynamic. I'm like in the school. I like, you know, we've got riff China like sort of battle against her. It's all working. Yeah. But at one point she's like, okay, I need to go get, go chuck to the science teacher. So she goes, hall monitors, take this piece of paper. The hall monitor then folds a paper airplane and froze it. And the visual gags alone are seen. I want, don't know how they filmed it because it looks. No idea. It looks so good. Yeah. It is flying through classrooms. It's flying through doors. It's like, it's like doing like a roll, a roll, a roobe gold machine. It's so funny. And then the payoff is just like, just hit someone. It's really good. I was just like, yep, I'm in. This is working. Yeah. It's definitely doing its own thing. And I think for 1979, it feels really fresh.

21:28Yeah. And you can tell that it's got a real, the movie exists in its own tone, which I think is really enjoyable, which is it's not telling you that it is of a spoof movie, but just that this world exists in a cartoonish land. Yeah. Because we also get on top of the sight gag that is the aeroplane, which is unreal. I have no idea. I assume it's the plane going through string. Maybe or I have no idea or just they've thrown out. Sometimes it looks superimposed over an image, but then other times it's definitely legit. Yeah. I don't know how they did it. But we've also got this constant gag of the boy's toilet, which I think is so much fun. So essentially Clint Eastwood, sorry, not Clint Eastwood, Clint Houset, bit of a difference. There's a big difference between Clint Eastwood, Ron Howard, and you get whatever this guy is.

22:29But I love him. Clint, yeah, it's so good. He's Kim and Ken the hat. You remember that bit? Yeah. Yeah, nice. He is on his own level where you just go, man, watching a person who looks like this is just interesting. Yeah. He has got such interesting facial features. He's immediately absorbing on the screen. Yeah. I was crazy saying him with hair. It is crazy to hear you hair. And you're just like, man, I feel like in the next day, it's gone pretty much. It's going to dissipate from you immediately, exactly. But essentially he has got the boy's locker room, sorry, the bathroom. They're all kind of smoking and fucking around. But they've also got like a ticket system where he's like, hey, I'm the don, like in the Godfather. Yeah. Essentially he's a fixer. He's a fixer. And he can fix you anything. He can do anything within the realm of the high school. It feels very, those are a scene in the Simpsons where Lisa didn't do her homework and she goes to Nelson in a cubicle who then gives her all the answers. And I'm like, oh, this is probably the inspiration.

23:29Totally. This is how much this film got modernized in other media. So I love seeing, I think Cliff Howard is like to me of like not the principal, Clint Howard's the next best in this film. Love Clint Howard and this. One of those things we go, I wish Clint Howard broke out more. Yeah. His brother wanted to, my God, put him in everything. And everything went time to pop stuff. Everyone goes, huh, him. Yeah. Ron was one of the biggest, biggest people that backed him. Do we think a rest of the development was close to getting Clint if they didn't get Ron though would go and Clint must have just like doubled up with the Grinch. He's in a film, what's it called Clint where he's a murderous ice cream van driver. It's also on two. I've got it on my watch list. I watched it. More Clint Howard on two. But I think that was his big like, can he do it? And he couldn't do it. I mean, I'll need a check out. I need to check it out. But yeah, no, that's Clint. So then our boy Tom goes, hey, I want, I want a bone.

24:32I want women. I want women. I want women. And although that might, for a modern audience, might as if you're like a vapid excuse in this film. Nope. It's pretty much, we're on his side. Yes. Pro pro pro pro pro pro. Absolutely. When Clint Howard's in this, so I also came to the realization that what I want in life is to star in a film like this. I think I would be great in a film like this. I think so. You want to play the fool? You want to play like a hit. What was the fool? Yeah. You always want me playing the fool. I want to be cool. Yeah. I think I'd say like, I'm really good at just the dummy of it all. Yeah. So I just want to be a great word. Right. You don't need more. You're the clever one. Yeah. It's a comedy. It's a comedy. It's a comedy. Because that's really clever. There's also part of the movie where the principal, somebody goes to go, it was by record player. And they're playing rock outside in the school. And I went, wow, Shawshank Redemption stole this. Very clever. Exactly.

25:33It's just been pillaged this rock and roll. It sure has. She's a riff. She's freaking playing the Ramones. I tell you right now, riff is the coolest character I ever seen in my god damn life. Precisely. She doesn't give two shits about anyone. And that's the punk attitude. That is the punk attitude. Yeah. And I will also say this about the Ramones when they started playing the hits. I went, I know the Ramones. Yeah, it was pretty, it was pretty embarrassed out. Yeah, heard that song my entire life. Yep. Blitzkriebop I believe it's called. It was in the Rugrats movie. Yeah. So yeah, so I'm pretty big fan, huh? Yeah. I think it's just a bit before our time, but yeah, hectic. I think it's good on us to know the Ramones as people born in like the late 90s. Yeah. Hey, we could, we could relate to the Ramones from 1979. Exactly. It's pretty good. I also do love, love just seeing what like the rebellious sort of like people were like like teenagers are rebelling in the 70s were doing because like constantly like they're playing the Ramones and they're just like, this is loud music. At one point, someone's like burning a Bob Dylan record.

26:35Yeah. That's crazy. At any point that Bob Dylan was like, I know he literally is like anti like establishment, but I just can't imagine anybody, everyone that talked about Bob Dylan is like 16. He's like, he's the greatest man. So it's crazy. Someone above them be like, he sucks. I'm like, I guess he's not out. But yeah, no. So that pretty crazy. There's a riff. Yeah, absolutely. And there's also been really good music the whole time. When they enter the boys' bathroom, we have this music that's like smoking in the boys' room. That's the remote. I feel like, yeah, I feel like I'm a bit more new wave British. I guess that's we're just missing the 70s because it's all good here. It's all good. I think because I'm probably well versed in more disco. What? Because of what? No fucking way.

27:37Are you more versed disco? Name a disco per band. Earth Wind and Fire. That's crazy. Name other than September. I think because I work in a disco in a roller coaster. I work in a disco then. I work for a brand that's disco forward. And so I'm constantly curating music for them. That's like, well, this is so the 70s and it's disco. And so to me, the 70s is just disco. And nothing else. Well, I think that this is what the parents are about. They're going, there's a no disco ticker. How am I going to get my groove on? Like, my flared pants and a light up floor. Like, get out of here. We're going to crack in the bathroom. Fuck you. I got my fro going. No, punks are live. It is funny that punk is sort of like the youth thing, but I feel like it's still kind of in my mind like, oh, yeah, punks.

I don't know if I can even relate to this about somebody climbing a rope. And this has always been a big fear of mine. Now this is what I, now this is really funny because I was talking to my partner while this was happening. I had to do this in England. And I was really good. Really?

29:38I was really terrified. Yeah. I loved climbing things. I climbed the rope. But I couldn't believe it. And you've lost this about you. So something must have happened. Yeah. I'm going to climb nothing. I got to tell you. I agree. I agree. I'm not trying to call for that or anything. I've lost my climb. But really, I love climbing. I remember love climbing this rope. But I just remember being like, this is very high. And I just can't believe it's surely done now because this is fucked. This can't be safe. Of course not. Before you're done, those mats thin as hell. I think now they've got the big ones. But you're still slapping into a mat. I think they're done with this. It's also a crazy thing to make children do. Just like, how's your upper body strength? If you have a clif if could you hang on? That's what we're testing today. Absolutely. She's like, just don't slide down, climb down. I'd be up there going, I don't know how else to get down. It's also so hard because at least the pole is stationary. So you can kind of use your legs to push off it. A rope's swinging. It's swinging.

30:38And I gotta tell you, I'm on a loose item. I naturally swing. I want some breeze in the hair. Like that's just me. The rope's fucked. I'm glad. The rope's fucked. Yeah, I can't believe this. Not at the bottom. What's that meant to do? I'm not doing it. Either way, it's a stanguous thing. Because yeah, worst comes to worst. You can't climb up the rope. 31:39and telling him not to touch it. Like that's like there's a murder weapon here. Wait, wait, wait, wait. The observatory? Fuck. Fuck. That's a secret passage. We'll be aware of that. Or it's like you're laying in the casket and all they've done is cut off the rope prior to the noose. But you're like, we'll just let this lay around him. That's a bummer.

32:40That's a fucking bummer. It was easier just to cut off the top. It's like an umbilical cord. It's like an Audi, you know, for a noose. Absolutely. Is poison included? Poison is included. Well, can I cut it? It's a little bottle as metal. It's great. That's so good. A lot of sucking on it. Love sucking on it. Love sucking on a little bit of poison, honestly. No, the clue is set. I just love sucking on all this pieces. I go to you right now. Somebody was like, we're doing monopoly but all the pieces are from Pluto. That I'd spend a hundred bucks on that. That's a great one. Because I hate the idea of it in the race car, but I love the idea of being a lead pipe making my way to the blue. You know what's fun about monopoly and Pluto is my fair weapon and my fair weapon. Not only the same one, the thimble. It's an absolute killer. Ask Wendy from Peter Pan. She never got back. Now let's get back on to rock and roll. I back to like sort of, I guess the meat and bones of this. It's funny how much comedy is shifted film wise. Because I feel like in the 70s and 80s, it was just kind of buns and a bit wood play.

33:42I was trying to think what like a comedy is now. I infer a film. I know like the whole thing is that we don't really get many comedy movies, but it feels like it's kind of just like absurd. I'm trying to think like what like a standard joke in a comedy movie is really good. Well, I even feel like comedy is now really peppered into other genres. Because I feel like if I actually looked at movies I'd watch this year. And this is just an absolute bizarre throw out there. But the movie that I feel like is actually trying to do any sort of sense of humor I've seen this year in cinemas is Project Hal Mary. And I think that's Phil Lord and Chris Miller going, we wanted absurd, like absurdism over this sort of film to sort of sell it. Because I don't think I've seen another comedy. They're really sure. I love that comedy. I'm constantly guys. Cloud Channel Meaball slapped. Yeah. Lego movie slapped. It's all real funny. And this absurdist. Yeah. I feel like they've gone, our movies exist in a world we've created. I think they're almost the, almost the exception.

34:44So I feel like they use a lot of filmmaking techniques to tell a joke, which I always. Yes, they're very visual forward. Like I think all of the visual gags in spite of us like really work because they're going, we want to sell the comedy through a visual gag role and through a dialogue. I feel like if you're right, yeah, that's the thing. I feel like in the 2010s of a lot of those SNL comedies, it's still really fun. But like it's a bit of riffing, you know, and we've got a scene like the Jedi. A lot more improv. Yeah. Watching those Adam McKay will feral movies is a lot more improv forward. I've recently been watching, I don't know if you've seen, but like adult season two got like a rave reviews. And so I thought, oh, maybe I'll go and watch adults because I'd feel like I wanted to sitcom. Yeah. And I'm loving it, but it's interesting to see that this is what modern comedy is. Yeah. And it's very heightened. Yeah. It's very, even more so than the other two. Mm-hmm. That's the world that I think it's sitting in. Wow, I love it.

35:44We both love the other two. Yeah. It's them going, we want to do dramatic beats, but I think we want to exist in the world where you could go, this gag almost feels like if somebody, like it's written well and it's given to you well, but it could have been somebody in a room doing a TikTok. That is what the comedy is, somebody doing this. That's our own answer. Yeah. I like TikTok and Instagram comedy. That's like, no, people are turning that into careers. Yeah, totally. Like that's a viable form of. And it is, and it is like its own medium. I mean, it's got its own rules. It's very interesting. It's funny, that's almost been translated to the screen. Well, how you meant to beat that. Yeah. Because TikTok, it's like modern social media comedy exists in going, I saw this thing. I think I can riff on it right now. And I can give it to you right now. And it feels like you're seeing an element of comedy within 24 hours of something happening within that time. You see, in the film, it's out of date. Totally. So quickly, because there's seven, eight on spine. Yeah. As good stuff, you know, it's really funny.

36:45Yeah, absolutely. I'd recommend adults, I'm very much enjoying. There we go. They also re-did their pilot, which is super interesting. That's fun. Like, as in like a sort of like a spoof, like episode or do they just... So I saw the basically, they, so they do their pilot and it begins with the group on a train. Having a casual conversation, I only noticed somebody's jerking off to them. And a woman within their group wants to jerk off back to him to show how gross it is. But that just gets him off more and she just has to deal with that. That's funny. And apparently people were turning off the show. LAUGHTER Hey guys, give us junior notes here. Oh, big cheer coming down with a big fucking notes. What do you want? Man, hey, so the weird jack-in-off scene, opening the pilot? Yeah, some people aren't vibing at 100% immediately. Maybe we could maybe push that to episode three? Like, go kill yourself.

37:45Yeah. And we can't do it our way. We're not doing it right. They've got, like, so they've got, like, there's a character on it that they call like a friend slot, who's somebody that, like, constantly is an overpleaser. And I was like, ah, fuck, it's me. But, like, they've got another character on it that's just like a really enjoyable, lovely, like, vanilla character, super funny, super pleasant. And they've redone, they've done, like, a prequel to the pilot that's, like, a free one on YouTube, and they've also put it on Disney+. But that's Stella as well, as just them being, like, if that's not your vibe, this is probably more indicative of the show that we're actually going to be becoming in season two. Cool. And I just think season two is a fucking river of a show. It feels like they were getting there. They were finding it out as they were doing season one. Because I feel like even, most sitcoms work way better in the second season than they do the first. And unfortunately, a logistical set up. Yeah. And then try and get a joke in there. That's too much.

38:45Where'd you go, great, you guys know what we're doing. We're doing a fun one. Yeah. I really love this a gagging out of the guy that rocks up to a dinner party being like, I just just the level of you I've had ketamine. And he's like, I've had a pony shot. They're like, what's a pony shot? And they're like, well, like enough for like a pony to feel it. And that's to be such a good, like, nice, concise, quick gag. And I think the show's really good at that. And I also think it's really indicative of like, the early 20s that I lived with, we've remade that. You loved it. I've been doing pony shots. I love doing ketamine. Yeah. Yeah. Carl, okay, here's the premise of what the Gory got the moment. So pretty much Riff goes, hey, I'm going to go try and get tickets to the Ramones. Kate covered me by telling the principal, my parents died. It goes, can do, can do. We then get her setting up at, waiting for the ticket booth. Love this montage. Yeah, me too. And this is the Moorgas. This is a colorful movie. It's really energetic film. Yeah. And I can tell that this movie's got, I'd love to know because like, the director didn't go on to do a lot.

39:46No, it's written by Joe Dante, though, to the story, which I thought was great. Did, uh, Gremlins did, uh, small soldiers. Yeah, okay. So somebody with like, big imagination probably does pretty well in the 80s, 90s. Yeah. Which really fun. Yeah, but I feel like the, what the director's bringing here is super energetic. Yeah. Like, I think it's really like if he's going, this needs to be faster. He's fast forwarding the footage. Yeah. If this needs another gagging it, something's happening in the background. And she's camping out for the Ramones. The milkman comes and swaps out of her milk, which I thought was just a good visual. I thought it was a great visual gag. There was a, there was an Indian who have like a scalping tool and then someone goes, oh, scalping. I just don't like that's, that's great. Good, broad quick. Yeah. Like it is going. We want to just fill you with a bunch of jokes. And if they don't land, you haven't noticed. Yes. Um, and that's the issue with the movie is unfortunately, I think it's edited too slowly. That you sit sometimes in a gag that doesn't land and you go, I'm going to sit with this real hard.

40:47I've got to sit with it and hurry it up, cut to the next scene. I imagine that's just our attention spans, you know, a freaking, a freaking goldfish brains. It probably is, but it's also just I think the way I want a quick hit in our own kit for sure. But I think even aeroplanes faster pace than this. So I think people realize comedy needs to go. Yeah. If you want to be like a naked gun or, um, and you like, I'm blanking. The male brook so are ones. Yeah. Any of those ones where you go, we want to be going really fast and hard comedy. It means you can't give people the moment to work out whether or not the joke landed. I think there's also got like a grindy sort of 70s aesthetic of like a B movie. Yeah. I think almost, all those B movies almost every scene kind of last a bit longer. Yeah. You know, constantly. I feel like if you look at like, um, I mean, it's a parody of it, but like Quentin Tarantino's uh, the grind house one. What's that one? I'm trying to get deaf proof. Yeah. I'm going into the into a car park takes 20 seconds. Yeah. We've got the film. Why not fucking why not use it all? Yeah.

41:47I, you know, a spoo who watch recently was like stop that train. Yeah. And you know, I even thought that movie was slightly too slow a paste. And that still had a lot of jokes. Yeah. But I thought, oh, they're still giving too much breathing. It was a bit. I think also that like this like very new aesthetic that like, you know, it's very well lit. Everything sort of like very empty in the shots. I kind of hate that. I think it's like modern day comedies. I think that kind of sucks. Sometimes you go too wide. Yeah. Like what's great about a 70s movie is it just looks great through happenstance of a being on film and people wearing color. Yeah. And so you go, this is good. Yeah. Whereas they're like, hey, we're like a six by nine. You're like, I don't know. Maybe I got square. You know, this really, yeah. Absolutely. It could be a tick-tock. Yeah. As a pose as a pro, you know, for sure. Uh, but yeah, no, she buys the tickets. Uh, and buys a thousand, buys a hundred for her friends, brings it back. They go to the concert. Yeah. We get to see the remones finally. Yeah. I'm shivering. I'm shivering as well.

42:47Yeah. And I've got to tell you as well, just as a live performance. They're very good. They're very good. I did like this. Yes. I think they're great. Yeah. Um, they've given everything that you need them to be giving. I wish we weren't just sort of watching them perform and occasionally cutting to a guy. I feel like that is, I guess, the big problem of the film. Because I feel that we've been giving like a spoof movie. I'm very enjoying that. And then we just do get a concert, not a bad thing. And I guess literally logistically, people couldn't see a concert. No, yeah. So if you want to see it remones, it kind of a fun movie. This is kind of the best. It was like, well, let's give them five good songs. Yeah. And they play them out entirely. Uh, we're a bit of a gag in the middle. But yeah, no, it is. It's fun. I'm enjoying them. They're very good performers. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. And also because now that we're seeing their concert, they're playing hits that I know. Yeah. And I'm just like, this is good context. Yeah. I get why you're into this. Yeah. I get why you want to rally around this. Yeah. Now, is it a movie produced by the remones? Do we know? Or it's just by people that are big fans of that. I think I think I looked it up.

43:48So the, the, the main producer, the main producer, we want a rock and roll sort of high school movie, animal house, but like modern day. Mm. Uh, and then we was looking for bands. I think they were sort of getting like, what about like Jimmy and the Crockets? And they're like, who the fuck are that? Let's go find some kids and know what like kids are actually listening to. And they were like, there's an up and coming band. Scrub them. Yeah. They're working people into it. Yeah. I think we kind of timeless because it's actually like people are into them. You know, another thing I'd say about animal house is the fact that I, I, have you ever seen an animal house? I've seen a lot of it. I can't, I don't think I've seen about 40 minutes. I think this is better than animal house. Oh, animal house, I think I turned off animal house. Yeah. It wasn't, it wasn't landing, you know, it was like landing-ish. Animal house is grosser and broader almost. This is way more punny and visual. Way more gross out, like way less gross out here.

44:49Feels more, I would say this movie even feels more feminine because you've got these two lead females as well. Yeah. And amongst like Tom that I'm like, this feels way more, I feel other than, other than the literal like limitations of like what we're seeing on screen, it feels like it's going to be made like in the 90s, you know? Yes, I do think it's like you can actually watch it and go, I think this is ahead of its time. Yeah. It's ahead of its time by like 10 years. Yeah. Yeah. This is like late 85. Yeah, this is why I thought, oh, I thought aeroplane was done before this. Yeah, crazy. So I'm shocked to find aeroplanes after. Also at the concert, I just want to shout out because I'm over there when I saw this. The radio show host is from deff race 2000. I couldn't believe he's playing. He's been like a desjocke and he's doing the exact same character from that. I just couldn't wait for guys. Deff race 2000 is a podcast. We've done that for the podcast. Yeah. I just couldn't believe it. Wow. Yeah. Good for him. Don steel, huh? Pipes of steel. I'm just chuffed. Anyway. All my mind right now.

45:50Yeah. So there's, concert goes pretty well. I'm enjoying the concert. Yeah. Anything you want to talk about, you know, we vibe in the remote. So you know, you're a lifelong fan. I think I'm going for it. Obviously, I don't have too much to write down about it. Yeah. Other than that, I've been showing what's happening on screen. I am too. I did feel a bit like a 50 year old. I thought that posture could be fixed. Those damn Ramones. There's definitely, and also, and get a haircut and dental. Yeah. A lot of dental. Yeah. I think it's just like taking care of yourselves a little bit more accessible now. Yeah. People were a mess. I don't know what to tell you. Yeah. I told them. I said, I'm in email. It wasn't nice. Yeah. And I think I'd be enjoying the section more if the maybe they'd set up that I care a little bit more about what's happening. Yeah. Our three leads. But I'm pretty ambivalent because it's just sort of gags. I think it's gags. It's not even them including. It's fine. But they're doing it. It's hard to critique because you go, well, they are doing their own thing. They obviously don't want you to care too much right now. So what am I meant to go? Yeah. Well, you guys want intent. I mean, I think the show is they got the fucking Ramones. Yeah, absolutely.

46:51That's what a part of it was kind of shocked. They got them. Yeah. Like I was. And they're not good actors. Oh my god. They are not giving anything. They're bad through and through. It's not their forte. Yeah. I mean, in fairness, they seem like punk people who don't give a fuck. It's crazy. Like, can you guys promote? No. Can you guys already give it? What can you give? Yeah. Yeah. Should we just skip to the end when we're? I think so. Yeah. Yeah. So riff gives them the sheet of music. She's like, Hey, hit my song. If you like it, come to our school. We're going to fuck around. They're like, all right. All right. No, I'm just doing the Aussie. I was born. All right. I'm going to be a bat. Yeah. A bat. I like a bat. A little bat. Give me a little bat. Oh, I learned a bit on that bat. What's his wife's name? Sharon. Sharon. Sharon. Get me a bat. Sharon. Now the school, Miss Toga has had a freaking enough of these really. She's sick of it. And also, if I had to see her through her P.O.V. I got it.

47:52I get why you'd be annoyed. You got it. You know, this authority figure feels pretty good. Scent of power. She doesn't really. You guys don't really. She wants the best for you. Yeah. That means control. Let her have it. I do love it. And maybe this is just an American thing. But this permanent record stuff, I love it. Like, what the heck? I agree. Yeah. Because I know the bit is like, it just falls through her life and doesn't. Yeah. But you tell out to kids because what else they got really? You freak out a 12 year old? Yeah. Because they don't know any better. They don't know any better. They're right now the kids of the power. This is the most example of, hey, if they're a majority, they could kill you. They could eat you alive. Yes. And the teachers know that and they're going, oh, we've got this drill of ass all this. Not your fucked. Yeah. You fucked. If that illusion breaks down, we're all there eating you. Every teacher has to worry about Marie and Twinnett happening to them. Exactly. They know the kids could bounce it anytime. 100%. We let them go into woodwork. They could build a guillotine. Absolutely. It's not good. Luckily, they know every kid's shy as fuck.

48:53Yeah. I talked to another student at all. Are you guys a hormonal and do the worst part of your life? Don't worry. We'll just freak you out. You all think this is the end? Focus on that. Despair. Don't have any hope. Just spare. Don't you'll hit 80 to realize life isn't the be all and end all of high school, but like at the moment. It is. There's burning record. Big. Focus on that. Big on big. So yeah. And then miss. Miss is like, hey, we're burning records. Allah, Hitler, book burning. I couldn't believe I'm going for it. But back then you could back then you could go for it. And honestly, I feel like now they should just do it. They should go like this. Yeah. They should be like America's close to book burning. And you can feel it. You can feel it. You can feel it. So I'm, you know, the movies have a bit of a laugh or that, you know, a little laugh, you know? Absolutely. Sometimes when I get a little bit of my Fahrenheit. 451. 451? I want a gag. And you're the first word.

49:55I know the numbers. The numbers are hard. I wasn't educated. I was listening to rock and roll. Catch 17. I believe it's cold. I don't know. They then storm the school. Okay. I love the capital. I'd expect to. Yeah. Spectacular. And suddenly on their side. Yeah. Storm the school, you know? For sure. And they do. They take over the power. And then, you know, they're going to come in. They rock and roll. It feels like, I feel like I've actually seen what they're doing. Done so many times. It's post. And then I go, wow, the siege of the school rock and roll taking over. Yeah. You can almost do it. You know, I gotta tell you, it almost feels like a bit of a cliche in all 90s and 2000. Yes. I thought this two. Like food fighting. And like, let's overtake the school. But I think this was a genuine sentiment in the 70s and 80s. And I kind of love it seeing it from like the the origin of it being a bit sincere. It's quite nice. Yeah, because in all those newer ones, it is a bit like tongue and cheek, you know? Yeah. In the Brats movie.

50:55In the Brats movie. Yeah. In the Brats movie. For sure. For sure. They blew up. I gotta tell you, I would love to do some reducks. I'd love to redo twilight. I'd love to redo Brad. I'd love to redo all the twilight. So I don't know if you say that my parents brought up every twilight book. Fuck that's great. I feel like it would be a gag to reread the ball. They blow up the school. They fucking. I really mean they blow up the fucking school. I thought this movie, because of how many extras and stuff they have. Bigger budget than I thought they have. Did you think I feel like they were doing well? I thought they're doing really well. I think just back then you were kind of like who wants some food and people just come and beat extras. You know? Well, I think also a movie there are moans. I think you've got, you're probably getting it. Probably. Yeah. Well, I watched my partner and I were watching a League of There Aren't for the first time. And all the baseball stadiums are packed with people. Cool. And I was looking up how they did that. And that was just people had nothing else to do. Great. So they just came. Yeah. And they just hang out and people like.

51:55And it would just be like Rosie O'Donnell who's in the movies like I'm going to give you an hour stand up right now. Yeah, great. Like everybody's just sort of pitching in. Oh, but like here's the thing. I'm about I'm about. I'm about to get us. Yeah. Nothing else to do. Yeah. Fun fact, Madonna refused to perform for free. I thought it was hilarious. A bit about that movie. She was like, she helped get us. I'm not. She was like, she helped get that movie as funded as because it was, but she was I'm not helping with the extra. In fairness, it's beneath her. Not for Rose though. It's really. Absolutely. It's right. It's right on par for her. Right on par for Rosie O'Donnell. Carl, who would watch rock and roll high school? Look, I'm going to tell you right now. This is from the truth in my heart. Yeah. I think this movie would be even better. High. Oh my god. And I think it would really land there. I think it exists in that fantastic space. Yeah. If you are not watching it with a joint, I think the movie still has a lot of really enjoyable qualities about it.

52:56I think it is slightly dated for sure in the way that it's paced. But I think it's got really fun, broad performances in it. I think if you're a fan of comedy movies, I honestly could trace a fair back. A fair bit back. It's to what I'd say. 30% yeah. I was I was really enjoying that. So I just thought this was a really fun time. I definitely I'd never heard of it before. And so this was a really fun educational time when it comes to 1970s comedy. Yeah. So loved it. Great little spoof movie. Would recommend if this is your bag. Yeah. Which doesn't usually happen often on this box. No, it's actually a big win. I mean, a great recommendation. Because yeah, I think it's a really funny one. I think I'm I was over the moon laughing at gag from 50 years ago. Like yeah, constantly, you know, you can be a bit like a carnivore zone thing. And then when it's like a fart gag, where he gets you like that's just clean good. That's just really clean fun. It's just it feels like such a design film. We're just like, yeah, kind of miss fits. If that like like who would watch it? It's miss fits for the 70s. I kind of love that, you know.

53:56And I'm personally I'm not a miss for it from the 70s. But I've got the energy of someone. Yeah, you're a send good. Thank you. You could be for sure. I put a mod hair cover now. I think also both of us entering without any expectations really helps the movie. I wasn't one expecting it to even be a comedy. Yeah, like I just thought we were going to be watching a bad. I thought it'd be a bad rock and roll movie. So I'm very happy. Yeah. And I would have been like a bit like I need to learn about the Ramones stat. Yeah. But for this, I like those songs fun. And I think it's like one of the things where I'm like, oh, well, Kate, unfortunately this movie, your nostalgic for is pretty good. Pretty good. Yeah. It's pretty good. Who knew? And this never happens. I watch movies. I'm nostalgic for all the time and go. This is really bad. I remember we both watched Wally was like, this is dogs. Wally sucks. Watching old good comedies like, man, when I watch like Ace Venturer and that ending happens and you go, oh no, you're so dated. When you do that. It's really powerful.

54:56It's really powerful. What's Chopic Funder though? That goes hard. Still. I think what works with Chopic Funder though is that it's so being like this ain't right. Like it's the fact that the movie itself is going what's happening isn't good. It isn't flow. People are like, you can't make that. It's stupid. You can't make that now. Who gives it like a course, but anyway, but I hope you're like, it's so bad. Yeah. Well, like it's like always sunny where it's like they're never asking you decide with the leads. Yeah. They're always like, this leads are doing bad monsters. They're monsters. And that's why comedy is of going. You could be edgy, but we have to decide with the fact that that's a bad thought. I think that's sometimes I think that's sometimes to be a moral thing of just like look, we made them villains, they can laugh at them. Yeah, absolutely.
