White House correspondents' dinner shooter identified

Another apparent assassination attempt of US President Donald Trump has been averted - in sight of some of the most influential journalists in the country.

President Trump was rushed from the stage after gunfire broke out at the White House correspondents' dinner at the Washington Hilton.

The President said a Secret Service officer was shot at close-range - but was saved by his bulletproof vest.

The suspect has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen - a 31-year-old from southern California - who remains in custody.
