You're paying a price by sitting there being miserable. You might say, well, the devil I know is better than the one I don't. It's like, don't be so sure of that. The clock is ticking. And if you're miserable in your job now and you change nothing in five years, you'll be much more miserable and you'll be a lot older.
What would amazing look like for you? What would amazing look like if you were amazing? If you know what amazing looks like, then why haven't you gotten here yet? I want you to say the reason I'm not an amazing yet because I hit the snooze button. That's why I'm not amazing right now. The reason why I'm not amazing right now is because I couldn't get up early enough because I told myself, I'm not an early person. You don't have time to waste, so I need you to put in a thousand percent every single day. Whatever you want to do in this life, or whoever you want to be, you must do it before you're ever rewarded for it because if you can't handle that struggle, you don't deserve the comfort. I never met a person who was not successful that didn't have a great amount of self-discipline within their life. Self-discipline and being able to perform and being able to keep your life on schedule
and being able to keep commitments and promises and meet deadlines is essential to success. What you're going to do to change yourself, write down what you're going to do to change yourself and go out and actually change yourself, go out and actually push yourself beyond those limits, go out and actually get up on the first alarm that you set off, get up on that one. We get one opportunity in life, one chance in life to do whatever you're going to do, to lay your foundation, to make whatever more people make, whatever legacy you're going to leave, leave your legacy and it's found to happen. When the loss has come a dime it does, but effort, nobody can judge it because effort is between you and you. It's about knowing that you have to develop yourself, that you don't get in life, that you want to get in life, that you are, you have to develop your mind, you have to develop your skills, you have to have a talent, ability, that you are cultivating so that you can
create value for the world with what it is you have with your gift. There has never been a point any time, there never will be where everything is perfect. No such thing, because life is a possibility, because it's a possibility, it cannot be perfect. It doesn't matter what we do, there's still something more to do. The possibilities when you do this, although are not, are endless, but one thing is for us, if you don't push yourself, nothing in your life will change. At some point everything is going to go south on you, everything is going to go south and you're going to say this is it, this is how I end. Now you can either accept that, or you can get to work, that's all it is, you just begin. From my perspective, when people ask me all the time though, I lack discipline, how can I get discipline in my life, and no one wants to hear this answer. No one wants to hear it.
The first steps you can take to impose discipline in your life is to wake up early in the morning, because let's face it, when the alarm goes off, you got your head on that soft pillow, it's all nice and cozy and warm in there, you do not feel like getting up. And so you haven't even have a snooze alarm, he doesn't ever hit the snooze alarm. And you should not, you should not, that snooze alarm is, I call that snooze alarm, the dream killer, like when you, when you press that snooze button, you're killing your dreams. Yeah, okay, how good you are on anything, you don't have discipline, you ain't nobody. Right. You're nothing of discipline, because you give up on the slightest struggle without discipline. 100%. And that has to be something that you also learn from constantly. I know with discipline, I don't know with discipline, he told me discipline is doing what you hate to do, but do it like you love it. Do what you hate to do, but do it like you love it. That's, that is a great quote. And if you can do that, you could be successful in anything. You know, you normally are, you be the best janitor and the hits of your janitor.
Yeah. And I used to do that for a perspective not to put no janitors down, you know, the best of it. When you're making progress in your life, it doesn't matter where it is, you're going to feel more alive. If you're overweight, but you get yourself today and you say, you know what, I'm stepping into gear. I'm just putting these darn shoes on, I'm not waiting for the perfect, you know, person to come by and coach me. I'll get that too, but right now I'm just going for a walk or I'm going to go for a jog or I'm going to go live some weight. I'm going to do something right now and you get yourself into gear and you do that for a few days in a row. Even if you haven't lost the 10, 20 or 30 pounds yet, you're going to start feeling better immediately because you have the power of momentum and you're making progress. Progress equals growth, growth equals feeling alive. We grow or we die. So what's the worst thing that could ever happen in your life? From survey, ask the people in North America, 10 seconds to come up with the answer, number one answer, to become a quite a plagiarist. That's why I made this show because the idea that I could be in a position where I'd be alive, but I couldn't physically feed myself, take care of myself, that I'd be completely
immobilized. For most people, that's the scariest thought of all. To them, that's the worst possible fear. From my experience, from what I've seen of other people, the only thing that gives the human animal the best feeling, which is to feel good about yourself when you're by yourself, is to do the hard things and to do things that bring fulfillment. And the things that bring fulfillment are often born of momentary suffering, but they allow you to get stronger in order to serve other people. That's it. That's just what I've seen. So I don't think it's better than the alternative that I just described. It's just the only thing that I've seen really lead to that sense of like deep fulfillment. So my thing about the specific part about the good habits are hard to stick with because they're boring. Just you've got to attach habits to things you actually really, and truly care about. No one can tell you what to care about. You can certainly build that into your life. You can take something that's an interest and build it into something you care deeply about, which I've talked endlessly about. So I won't go into it here, but that is very, very possible.
Associate your habits to that thing. Suddenly the habits will be very easy. Don't judge yourself with your life the way you want. But respect the realities of neurochemistry. There are three keys to peak performance in achieving your goals. They are commitment completion and closure. When you make a firm commitment to achieve a particular goal and you put aside all excuses, it is very much like stepping on the accelerator of your subconscious mind. You will be more creative, determined and focused than ever before. Great men and women are those who make clear unequivocal commitments and then refuse to budge from them no matter what happen. Completion is the second ingredient in peak performance. There is an enormous difference between doing 95 of a task and doing 100 of a task. In fact it is very common for people to work very hard up to the 90 or 95 level and then to slack off and delay the final completion of the task. This is a temptation that you must fight against. You must continually force yourself, discipline yourself to resist this natural tendency and
push through to completion. Every time you complete a task of any kind, your brain releases a small quantity of endorphins. This natural morphine gives you a sense of well-being and delation. It makes you feel happy and peaceful. It stimulates your creativity and improves your personality. It is nature's wonder drug. The more important the task that you complete. The greater is the quantity of endorphins that your brain releases very much like a reward for success and achievement. Over time you can develop a positive addition to the feelings of well-being that you receive of this endorphin rush. Even when you complete a small task you feel happier. When you complete a large task you feel happier still. When you finish the various steps on the way to the completion of a large task at every achievement you get an endorphin rush. You feel continuously happy and exhilarated when you are working steadily toward the completion of an important job. Everyone wants to feel like a winner and feeling like a winner requires that you win.
You get the feeling of the winner by completing a task 100. When you do this repeatedly, eventually you develop the habit of completing the tasks that you begin. When this habit of task completion locks in, your life will begin to improve in ways that you cannot today imagine. In psychology the reverse is always true. The incomplete action is a major source of stress and anxiety. In fact much of the unhappiness that people experience is because they have not been able to discipline themselves to follow through and complete an important task or responsibility. If you have ever had a major assignment that you have been putting off, you know what I'm referring to. The longer you wait to get started on an assignment and the closer the deadline approaches, the greater stress you experience, it can start to keep you up at night and affect your personality. But when you finally launch into the task and push it through to completion, you feel a great sense of relief and well-being.
It is almost as if nature rewards you for everything that you do that is positive and life-enhancing. There is nothing that will get you paid more and promoted faster than to develop a reputation for getting your tasks done quickly and well and on schedule. Freight rail does more than move goods.
