If they do it after June 1st, it's just $20 million dollars. That's $20 million dollars less. That is a lot of money. So, actually, it makes sense for the egos if they are going to trade AJ Brown, which again, there was momentum to do it various times here. Trading them after June 1st makes sense. What that means is it wouldn't be 2026 draft picks if he was traded. It'd be 2027. I mean, the cap it would be less. It would also mean that we might be talking about AJ Brown into June, which is okay because you don't play games until like September. So, if AJ Brown was traded to let's say the Patriots in June, it would be the same result as now, except, you know, we'd get two more extra months to talk about. Final hour, Jones and Keith here on WEI. We might need to re-listen to that from Rappshade. It's an incredible breakdown. So, 40 million turns into 20, which is the difference of 20 million. He educated us on math and the months. And if you trade for him after this draft, the picks would be for, you guessed it, next draft.
And so, they don't play games until September. So, you have to worry about that. Yeah. And we might be talking about AJ Brown until June, which is two more months away. Yeah. Two and a half more months away. I mean, it's a pretty good breakdown. He left out like actually a massive difference in there, but can I, can I, should we even bother hearing it again? I think I summed it up. I think he did break it down. So, 40 turns into 20, which is the difference of 20. Got it. That's easy enough. And then June first. So is still after June first, which is $20 million. That's $20 million less. Got it. And 40. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think my second grader can do that math, but good job by Rappshade. There. Look, I'm not great at math. No, no, no. I'm impressed. Sometimes you need it because a lot of counting on fingers when we do math. This is true. No, look, I'm not good at it, but I can do that math nailed it. Um, and then yeah, it would be the same in June. No, it wouldn't. If he's here now, he's in the office, he's in program. He's doing everything now. Right. They're, they're brand new state of the art. You see the media blitz on this. They're brand new state of the art. People love the way they do that. They're, they're, they're pairing with new
balance, love new balance. Sure. I, uh, I would not refer to that building in state of the art. That's just me. Compared to some of the other three art, well, architect Jones over here. The, uh, inside, uh, nope, nope. I don't think I need to. I've seen the outside of it. I know what a state of the art facility looks like. Don't judge a book by its cover, Jones. I'm sure on the inside, they pretty much have all the same workout materials, both likely, uh, uh, or machines rather. So, uh, anyway, no, the big difference is if A.J. Brown's here and, and look, Drake May can go work out with the guys on a backfield in North Carolina or Brady used to bring everybody out to Montana. So, you know, even Cam was doing some of this rounding guys up to go throw with them. You can do that. And you could do that regardless of what team A.J. Brown is on. But the big difference is he'd be here. He'd be in your program. You know, there was a big deal made about this. Romeo Dobbs, like talk about trying hard and like I watch Romeo Dobbs showed up with like the, uh, the iPad to go through the playbook when he was signing his contract. That's not because you have to do that. Cause he's so in his playbook and he's so in his iPod.
Yeah. All right. Pad, rather hard. I bought him. He's sweet. I think he's listening to, uh, James, James addiction. Oh, maybe, uh, he's so he's so into his playbook. Keep that he doesn't have time to sign his contract without bringing that and learning his playbook. But like, there is something that A.J. Brown being here and getting in the playbook and getting in the offseason program and getting to know guys and all of that. That to me is a big difference because even though you post dated on paper to, to a June 1st move, I do think in the, in the meantime, that's what you're missing out on. Like you can't officially be in the team facility until after June 1st, based on the way that, that paperwork comes out. So I do think it's a difference. I just think the A.J. Brown thing for as much as we've talked about it, it's been like two years of will he come here? Will he not come here? Could, could he be on the way out with the Eagles, even while they were winning a Super Bowl, we were asking the question and then variable gets hired here and you're connecting dots and then it's been all off season. So I think he's worth talking about and he's worth updating. Yeah. But then it really is no updates really. And I thought the Goddard thing and I, I guess this is going to be my point.
I thought the Goddard signing would shake everything free. And who knows, maybe today at 2.15 because the second we get off the air is when things seem to happen. There's a chance. Maybe today at 2.15 during W.E.I. afternoons, we get off the air and we're driving home. We're listening to Andy and we're listening to Fitsy and they're reacting to an A.J. Brown trade because Goddard is back with the Eagles on a one year deal. I thought that was something that would actually move this forward and listening to rap sheet had done sound like we're any closer or anything happened. Yeah, to your point though, we've waited over two years. I can wait two more months. I'd like him on the team right now. No, me too. But I might start scaling back the breathless coverage of every update because the update really are a lack of updates. No, but we did need something following Goddard because last week, I think when we got off the air on Friday, it was what are they doing with Goddard? They have like the self-imposed deadline, then they push the deadline, then they ended up signing them. It's like a one year deal anyway. So they're all right. They figured that out. So if the balls and Philly's court, maybe that's squashed. It's not. And so do you think this has more to do with Philly saving $20 in cap space?
$20 million. $20 million in cap space or is it more they think they can get a first round pick in the pictures? Don't want to give a first round pick. I think it's more that I think they want. They want A.J. Brown's money. Forget about the dead cap. Everybody's focused on the dead cap and the cap numbers. They don't want to pay them. And they're not going to pay him and Goddard. And I do believe that as much as Lori has spent there in Philly, he's not going to spend on everybody. They didn't just spend on Jalen Phillips. So they're not going to spend on every single player as much as he's spent. And he deserves a lot of credit for spending there. He's helped them get to his Super Bowl and win another one. And just recently, you never mind the one they won with folds. Like he spent. I don't think they want to pay both. They've now chosen. They're going to pay Goddard. So A.J. Brown, I've thought all along as a Goddard. I don't think he'll be back with the Eagles. I think the Patriots as a destination make the most sense. But to your point, I think it's really about the return now. If they're not getting what they want, they're just going to wait it out. But he won't be an eagle next year. I don't does not feel like it. And it doesn't seem like there are any other teams connected. You'd probably have the update earlier. The Rams were reportedly
interested. Now that seems like whether they were or they weren't, they aren't anymore. So that's the Patriots or back with the Eagles. But nobody thinks he's going to be back with the Eagles. Therefore, it looks like it's going to be the Patriots. And the Patriots are also saying, all right, we don't need to make a deal this second for a first round pick and more or whatever whatever it is that Phil is asking for. And then they went out and signed Romeo Dobbs. So they're like, we're at least content to go into the season with this group. Now it wouldn't be the best group in the world. They don't they do need somebody like an AJ Brown. But the Eagles have already gotten to this point where they don't want this guy back. They're going to want to get some form. I thought what would speed it up or what would be sort of another deadline day would be the draft. I would think if you're the Eagles and you went from winning the Super Bowl to losing in the first round of the playoffs and you're about to move on from AJ Brown. Do you really want to wait a full year to get a player or a few players in the draft for that or wouldn't you want to start that turn around sooner and use a first round pick this year or even a second one pick this year is more valuable than that. But I guess not. I think how he rose been is playing the leverage game
for as long as he can. But you're probably right. The draft is probably the drop dead for that. And if you get all the way to the draft and he still has him in delt and now rubber is going to meet the road and the Eagles are going to have to make a move. They're probably going to have to settle for whatever you're offering and the cost is he's not in your off season program. But if that saves you a first round pick, then then maybe that's worth waiting it out on. It is worth waiting it out on six one seven seven nine seven ninety three seven. That's some of the latest on AJ Brown. Florio had a couple items over the weekend. One is that the Rams were shopping Devante Adams to look at bringing in AJ Brown weird though they are now out. So it was really good form this year. I wonder who they were shopping him to like where the Patriots calling on that one. Are they out because of the Josh McDaniels connection like I don't know. I wonder who and where he was getting shop to. But Florio said multiple league sources of characterized to profile talk that it's inevitable. AJ Brown will get dealt. The question is whether the Eagles would do it before or after June 1st, which is someone we were just discussing there. Another source explain the Eagles
will be careening towards a potential cat mess in 2027. If they keep brown through 2026, you just shrugged. I agree. Yeah, I'm not all that word. But I guess the way they've done business, paying attention to how Lori's done business and and Rosemary's done business on his behalf is they tend to get out a year before these potential cat messes get on their books. So this spring is when plans start becoming real trips get booked calendars fill up. How many times has the trade been talked about for in a way, years, but then also really a year, months straight. Then that's where he goes. It's possible.
The variable connection obviously makes it likely that that could be what happens, but it just seems like it's a ton of build-up. We were talking about other stories that were covered over and over and over and over again. It's like flashbacks like Brett Farve, where it was like, is he going to retire? I don't know. Here's Edward or standing in his driveway, like over and over and over and over. I guess that's one where remember he wanted to go to the Vikings and then he had to go to the Jets first and then he eventually went to the Vikings. That was one that eventually the end result was there. It had been talking about it for years, so I don't know. This isn't to that degree, but just here locally. It's a little bit like that. Yeah, I agree. It's dragging on now where it feels like we're just kind of waiting for what I think the inevitable is to happen. Meanwhile, Aaron Schatz, ESPN, wrote about this over the weekend. There are five teams that he thought had the best moves this off season, the most improved teams anyway. He has the Panthers and the Chiefs at one and two. That was even before the Chiefs earlier today got just in
some fields. Yeah. So I imagine they're not going to go. They went down after that. That's a good point. You might now have the behind the Patriots. We had third on the list. The Steelers and 49ers, also on the list. Steelers got Pittman, Niners got Mike Evans, Pat Sinromio Dobbs. They're a big one. Chiefs got Kenneth Walker and then the Panthers is like their headlining signing. Jalen Phillips. So he thinks they're one of the five most improved teams in free agency. Yeah, I think it actually speaks to how bad the free agent class was overall. Honestly, not even taking anything away from what the Patriots added because they did. They spent money. We were both happy that they spent money. But there may have been a few people out there mad that they didn't get Alec Pierce. We weren't in that group. And then if you look at the rest of the premium free agents, Tray Hendrickson and then the whole thing that happened there between Max Crosby and the Ravens and the Raiders and everything else, there weren't a lot of what I would call like five star free agents. So when you end up with Kevin Byard and Vera Tucker and
Dremont Jones and Romeo Dobbs, grab a full back. You grab a blocking tight end. You grab a couple special teamers. You bring in eight players to your team. You even made a couple of trades. They're one of the more active teams. They added a bunch of starters. So yeah, I'm not surprised there in the top five despite not adding a real like all pro. Like Byard probably was years ago. But like, oh yeah, I don't I don't think he's at that level now, but he's probably been. So you added a bunch of good players, but that was the thing. Because even like last week, we were getting some people would be like, I don't really know about this for like free agent class so far and like, yeah, but who did better? Like out of what was available? Who really added to their team? I think on some of these lists, we were looking at the Matt Bowen wanted ESPN and then the PFT one. There's others. I think they pretty consistently signed three of the top 50 free agents, which is not crazy good. And they lost one, right? They digs us out. That's right. I mean, chase on though. Chase on was a free agent that was there. So maybe two. I think digs wound up showing up on some of these lists after we got released. So yeah, it's my it's still a net positive.
I guess. Yeah, I would say so. Um, but again, ESPN has them as a top five most improved team. And that's before even potentially adding a guy like AJ Brown, which I think will make it a no brainer slam dunk of an off season. Now Bydard made this point. We talked about it on Friday. They're spending to bring in AJ Brown. The way craft views their spending is three year rolling basis. They have a number, a cash spending number to the cap. And they've been over certainly last year. So that number had to correct a little bit this year. And Bydard says there within like a million dollars of that number right now. If you look at it over a three year rotating basis. So okay, they're at that number. So how do you acquire AJ Brown? Well, you could do it by sending out cash on when you or bar more. Those guys make a lot of money. You replace that cash with AJ Brown's money. And boom, you're often running one for one. But that does make you a little worse over here to make you better over there. I do that. I'd move both those guys off the team. If it meant the Patriots got AJ Brown, but the best thing would be obviously to keep them all and try to run it back with those guys on the team while adding AJ Brown to it. Um,
and Bydard thinks Raible may be able to talk Robert Kraft into it. I'm sorry, not talking into it. Yeah. Sweet talking to it. Uh, here's Bydard. If you missed this earlier, I think that any big expenditure to me, like an AJ Brown or, you know, whoever you want to mention, um, some people are still talking about Max Crosby, even though I think there's next to zero chance of that. Then I think it's either a situation where you have cash out going out bar more Michael when you and or Mike Raible saying, you know, maybe they do think that they can get AJ Brown at some point. I think that would involve Robert Kraft being very confident that like, look, I can sweet talk Robert. I know exactly what he needs to hear. So I'll say sweet nothings in his ear. And he'll give me the okay to get AJ Brown at that point in time. No, take your time. Get undressed. I, I've said this. I feel like we've consistently said this, Keith. If there's a player of Raible's going to use that chip, that card on, isn't it AJ Brown? Like if there's going to be one guy,
he's going to go to crafts and sweet talk about it's going to be a guy. He'd go to the mat for an AJ Brown. I don't think he do that for Crosby. I don't think he'd do that for some of the other players we talked about this off season. AJ Brown is one I could see him doing that for. So that, that makes sense. The question is, is craft going to listen or is he going to say, yeah, that's nice Mike. If you want him, you can have him. I say, I set you a budget. Yeah. So to be within my budget, you got to peel off bar more over here or on when and over there. That's my guess. That's more what it would be. We always talk about, you know, crafts and how he runs his businesses. And so it's going to be like, hey, that's great. I'd like AJ Brown to, but figure out another way to do it. I'm all happy to have him back and you can reunite. And I don't think craft cares about whether it's a second round pick or a first round pick. If the football guys all feel like it's the best move, but that might mean you got to get a cheaper replacement for Mike on when or a cheaper replacement for a Christian bar more. And I feel like for the money and for what's on the field, you probably have a better chance of finding that with on one new that you would for bar more, but on when you were more reliable guy, yeah, bar more is more reliable. So like that's plays a factor.
Bar was the bigger headache. Yeah, I did. I fact check this as well. I think you did the same. We got a bunch of texts that said, Byrd was first. Seem all pro last year. I expect that. I knew he had a bunch of picks. I didn't realize he was first. Even better. So we stand corrected. You did him and Kyle Hamilton. You did gain an all pro. Okay. You know, I don't I think his best days are behind them, but I didn't realize he was first team all pro last year. Even better. Six, one, seven, seven, seven, nine, seven, ninety, three, seven.
