What does it mean to be 'physically educated'? w/ Richard Whall

About this episode

Please find below links to a variety of resources that have helped me and my own natural movement explorations, amongst which I hope you find things of interest and value to you. This is by no means a definitive list, but are all ones that I’ve found useful over time. I’m more than happy for you to reach out if you have any questions and feel free to share all these with anyone who may be interested.

More about MovNat

If you are interested in learning more about MovNat and particularly MovNat in schools, there are three different resources attached; the first is an overview diagram of where to go to learn more about MovNat, the second is more specifically about the MovNat in school course which we hope to bring to the UK soon (or make available online) and the third attachment has a few introductory movements you can play with, including links to video demonstrations.

MovNat has a centre in the UK at the Deenway Montessori School in Reading, you can find out more here: Movnat Fitness Centre

The main MovNat website is also a great resource with plenty of free videos and interesting blogs/articles: Home - MovNat: Natural Movement Fitness so this is a good starting point: Introducing MovNat Adaptive Practice Sessions - MovNat: Natural Movement Fitness as is their YouTube site: MovNat - YouTube look at the Playlist for their Movement Library.

Rope Flow & Spinal Engine/Coiling Core

For further support with your own rope flow journey, I can highly recommend exploring the free videos on Tim Shieff’s Way of the Rope Youtube page:  Way of the Rope - YouTube and for more specific online courses and/or ropes, his Rediscover Human website: Products – Way of the Rope (rdscvr.com)

This is a useful video guide to make your own ropes: RMT Rope Making Tutorial #ropeflow - YouTube

David Weck is the original rope flow teacher so well worth checking him out! WeckMethod

These two videos are from Weck Method and discuss in more detail their interpretation of spinal engine theory and a fundamental position to help you feel the it through ‘Coiling Core’: Weck Method The Royal Coil (Intro) - YouTube with a couple of follow up/useful rope flow videos: Weck Method RMT Ropes Part 1 (Intro) - YouTube and Weck Method RMT Ropes Part 2 (Intro) - YouTube

Other useful individuals and resources I discussed with people during the different workshops included:

Katy Bowman: Nutritious Movement - Movement is for EVERY Body

Rafe Kelley at EvolveMovePlay: Movement Training | Natural Parkour | Evolve Move Play

Claxton Intelligence in the Flesh: GUY CLAXTON - Intelligence in the Flesh: The Bodily Basis of Thinking - YouTube and Intelligence in the flesh - The British Psychological Society (bps.org.uk)

An Introduction to Biotensegrity: BIOTENSEGRITY & Dynamic Anatomy - YouTube and Biotensegrity Home

Enjoy your continued explorations, please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions or comments, or if you are interested in my on-going PhD work around physical intelligence and what it means to be physically educated!

Regards
