Westminster's Political Shift: Red to Blue?

0:00On April 7th, Westminster sits right in the heart of Central London, hugging the River Thames and spots like Brent and Camden. It's the political core of the UK, packed with icons from the Palace of Westminster, to Hyde Park, Westminster Abbey, and Oxford Street. Home to about 210,000 people, it's super diverse, over half white, with big Asian, black and other groups, and folks speaking, 85 languages, a quarter not mainly English. These areas got sky-high living costs, average house hits 888,000 pounds, monthly run around 3,100, 81 pounds, and BAN-D council tax at 147 pounds for next year. History wise, it kicked off with Anglo-Saxon routes in the 5th century, grew around Edward the confessor's Abbey in Palace, and got city status from, Henry VIII in 1540. For decades, Westminster City Council stayed conservative turf since 1965, but labor flipped in 2022, their first win.

1:01Ever, grabbing 31 seats to the Tories 23 after boundary tweaks, cut total seats to 54. Turnout was just 31.9% with a swing toward labor. Since then, things shifted. One labor defector to conservatives, two Tories to reform UK, and Tories snagged two by elections from labor. Even expert Tony Travers from the London School of Economics says labor's battling hard amid tough national policies, greens might snag a seat, but conservatives look set to reclaim control.
