On March 6th, usage of the West Midlands bus on-demand service, which covers ring and ride, fell slightly in late 2025, between October and December. Riders took 54,500 trips, down 2.6% from 55,970, the year before. Driver shortages and heavier road congestion played a big role in the dip. Officials combined the old ring and ride and Coventry on-demand services into this single network last year to make things simpler. New operators took over, including via for Birmingham, Sallie Hall and Coventry, plus hates for the black country area. The slow down hit hardest in the first two months of the quarter, cutting reliability and trip availability. Still, passenger satisfaction stayed steady because rides are booked ahead of time, so most folks weren't left waiting on the spot. Starting December 1st, the new teams rode out upgrades like smaller, nimbler vehicles that let wheelchair users ride together more easily.

They also added fresh technology and tweaks to boost efficiency across the board. Now service availability sits at 100%, with early hiccups ironed out, setting the stage for smoother rides ahead.
