D and B are the rough part of the world. And let's go, baby, life from the corner of Colfax in New York and downtown Denver, right about the DMDR bar. This is the draft pod. That intro just hits different when we're actually recapping a full week of college football. It's unbelievable. This is what I live for. It really is. Week 0, let's be honest. Let us know. It's week 0, man. It is. It's like opening the Christmas present on Christmas Eve. Like you're not going to apologize for opening a bad gift. You still got a trick. That's right. That's right. It is the PJs books of the college football season. Week 1, fine. I've got some stuff to talk about. Week 2 though already. Let's go, man. I mean, we start with the conference slate. Yeah. It's insane. Yep. Full cast. Full crew together again. Let's go. Look at you guys. We're done with your camp schedules.
And thus you can join me for the draft pod. Usual disclaimer. This is the draft pod. This doesn't interfere with any of your normally programmed Broncos content, buffs content, Rams content. That's all coming at your regular schedule time from these guys. Bless you. Bless you, Jake. But yes, we do this every week. So thank you for tuning in. Give us a like. Big hanky from the Broncos B and the Shwan man from the buff side with us. And yes, the man the myth, the legend Justin Michael joining us in the final segment to give us some picks as well. Let's start with your insights, Jake. You were at the game that kicked off week one. Yeah. It was a banker at least the end of the game was. It was pretty unremarkable. Guys who stood out from a pro standpoint as the buffs answered all the questions we had coming in. But raised some doubts on the one area we thought we were maybe covered.
So an interesting game as it all played out. Yeah, starting with NFL standouts. I think you got to go with the dude who blocked the kick boot Carter. That guy is different. Yep. Just moves different. He was starting out as a nickel at Colorado eventually. Coach Prime moves him to the outside. He needs to be better at tackling, I think. Sure. I think he led the team and missed tackles, which is unfortunate, but he obviously looks at. Ricky impact play where he just times the snap perfectly blocks the kick. He's just different, man. We might be able to see him at offense at some point, but. Yep. We'll see exactly where he lands at the end of the year. I mean, I'd be interested to see if he gets some snaps at nickel even this week against a much lesser team than Georgia Tech. But I think you start an end with Boo Carter, Brandon Fontanette in the second area as well. Yeah, he was all over. 6 to 220 pounds at safety. I mean, and just playing all over the field, he was like a fourth linebacker out there for them.
Yeah. And it's extremely impactful in the run game. It wasn't really tested too much in the back end, but had a solid performance overall. The linebackers as well for Colorado. I mean, nothing eye catching, but you got three, I think coach Prime called him future pros back there. And honestly, the most impressive guy. Yeah, I could see it. Most impressive guy I thought was someone who's not even draft eligible. It was Chancie Gooden who played both ways in the trenches. Yeah. Right guard and nose tackles. Is that right? Yes. Left guard. Yeah, that bus online showed me something. Yeah. That was... Jesus, I was trying to think about it. And obviously it's a weak one over reaction, but I don't think... I felt this good about a bus online. I mean, we might be going back to the early 2000s. I mean, it's probably my time. I mean, 2020 would have a case.
The Alamo bull year, that's when you had Jerk Brusard. Yeah. What do you have? 8.95 and six games, five games. Yeah. But I think that's the only... That was in the mix. Season where it felt like it was consistent all the way through. Yeah, the online and the rise season wasn't great as Seffo Lufal being knocked out of like five games that year may suggest. Right. Yeah. And yeah, then you're going back to like, oh, one. Right. So I mean, we might... No. It's... Right. I mean, you need to keep this going. Yeah. But no. Also, Lomont Lester. I mean, it's... I was expecting a Lomont Lester. Yeah. I was supremely impressed by Santana Hopper as well. Okay. Santana Hopper, right? Yes. Hopper is a game changer in the interiors. Part of why they were so good defensively in the Lomont Lester. I mean, in one game, Lomont Lester already has more sex than any other. There's more sex than any buffs player did last year. No. No. No. No.
No one had more than two and a half last year. No, no. Lading sat guy had two and a half sacks last year for the buffs. No. Things are different. No. Yeah. Impossible. Mathematically impossible. I wish I could tell you. That's crazy. Yeah. How many sacks have I have gotten? If I was on the offense. I have sat at the... I would have gotten close. Yeah. I would have gotten close. I mean, you saw Georgia Tech's left tackle. I think anyone was getting around him. Did Boo Carter have more sacks at Tennessee last year than any buffs, D-Liamen? Boo hardly played last year. One sack. Yeah. But for a half TFLs. Yeah. I mean, my top team... Hopper looked bigger than advertised, too. Yeah. I think he's put on some muscle this off season as well. I mean, he still, if you want to calm him, he is undersized for the position, for sure. Yeah. So you are going to be concerned about that moving forward. But LeMont LeStre is a 230 pound speed russure who's got a bag of moves already that he put on display. So this D-line is different, man.
I mean, we talked about it all off season. These trenches, they're actually doing something there. And it's actually iron sharpening iron in practice. And we saw that act out last Thursday night. No doubt. I think Bo Hewglied the left tackle is a real pro. Future pro. Yeah, man. I mean, the coach prime building the roster outside in us as a draft pod. And we always think of personnel and how you build a team. And that's always struck us as unique. I feel really good about both sides of the trenches this season. They had to change a lot. And I think it shows the emphasis that's been made. And I think it's really promising and encouraging. Yep. Did you have any ads to that, Hanky? No, I think that's pretty good. I mean, I would look it too early, but Alberto Mendoza looked good. He really did. Those were some incredible throws in there. Yeah. I think there's like, before Ju-ju kind of turned it on late.
There was like a little bit of difference when you're just watching the two of them. And it's Ju-ju out there. And then you see like Alberto just layering throws, overline backers into that next level. You've looked like a Mendoza, which still early we'll see how it all goes. Yeah, they didn't really run the ball. He didn't have a true rushing attempt in that game. Well, drive one. I was like, oh, but I just this hains of Alta Ghost. I am. And then they clamped them, put the clamps down. Yeah. Offensive side of the ball, too. I mean, Deandre Moore, there wasn't much receiving production, but I think he flashed. I think Ju-ju's just got to reel in some of those deep shots and you'll start to see some of those other guys ball out. And at right tackle, you have Leon Bell, who was at Cal last year. So he was actually the blindside protector for JKS last season. He's now at right tackle for the buffs. That right side of the offensive line. I love the way you were saying on the post game about that. Yeah. They were moving stuff, man. And the kid at right guard is not even draft eligible. He's a red shirt freshman, but that's probably what Leon Bell is the name to watch.
He's the biggest offensive lineman on the team. He is towering. I think I was less impressed by Mendoza than... What about anyone in the DNVR office? And then what's the first name of that tight end? Kyle, is it Kyle Williams? The Georgia Tech one? No, the buffs. Oh, Charlie Williams. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, boy, he looks the part. And that catch was impressive. Yeah. No, Mendoza, it's more like, I don't... Yes, there were a couple layered throws. I also thought, um, handling pressure, which maybe that... No. That looks like Mendoza, because that's what we were saying about Fernando. And a lot of it was just kind of like throwing open guys who had a cushion because they're playing against off coverage. Yeah. Like just taking what the defense gave you. But he'll be intriguing to watch throughout the ACC season. And honestly, it starts this week. They've got a big game against Tennessee where there are almost two touchdown underdogs at home.
And I'll be very intrigued. I think that'll be a great gauge of how good Georgia Tech really is. And Ectofacto. Sure. Some good indicator of how good the buffs are, you know? Transitive properties all we really have early on in this college football season. So, east of the all we had, period. Yeah. You know, it was a glorious thing. Um, I think, you know, in my younger years, I would have fought this. Now, I'm ready to embrace it. We want to overreact after a week, one. I'm not a man overreact. You go for it. And so, boys, you have the red carpet to overreact. Give me hot takes. Do the Twitter thing. Fall over yourself to, uh, to be first to have a stupid opinion. Then we'll remind you up for the next three months. We'll have fun with it. You know, um, I would start with an LSU overreaction. Okay. I like that one. Okay. Four realsies.
Cause my God, that was an impressive performance against Clemson. I'm just got distra like devil. It's over. It's over. Can we say Reston Pistadabbo, sweetie? We can. Reston Pistadabbo. RIP. But you know what the peace stands for, my boy? Um, leave us a like, that's, that's good stuff. Leave us a like. Okay, don't forget. Um, yeah. Yeah, LSU boys and maybe deeper into LSU Let Sam Levit ran it really well at quarterback is he your kind of NFL quarterback is he a guy you would know Well, the you nano as head shake. I love this Kip also what's going on? So I'm I am now convinced he's a good college quarterback Which I might I may have been one of the few like holdouts are like I don't I don't really know about this guy But no you do have to appreciate that a quarterback who's also half full back It's just it works it works as much as you hate it. We saw it with the GT quarterback last year
Haines King Haines King I was the justice Haines Haines King brother Oh, and they have Jamal Haynes was the running back last year. Yes, absolutely. It's got people in hell Tyler our accountant who's a big ol Miss fan was also a confusing, you know, I couldn't remember what was what yeah Yeah, so at some point you're gonna need to be able to throw the ball if you're LSU Like I know At some point that run game was in present at some point it may not be until late December But at some point you're going to need to be able to make some throws But yeah, the run game's awesome and part because of the quarterback the defense just looks ridiculous also Those They have Monamelic yep, yeah, thank Jordan Ross. Yeah, I enjoyed in Ross who had like a pick six and then another sack Yeah, that's a nice little edge combo. They've got out there Yeah, and then you got what weeks in the number seven now just yeah, yeah, carry on fire running around there I mean he's around every play, but yeah with Sam Levy it's
It's like the same thing. It's a lane kiffin quarterback, bro We've done this with Jackson Dart. We did this with who's the guy but Matt Keral like It's like these guys are a little bit reckless in that offense and it's the freedom that lane gives him right like He's gonna let them run around He's just about scoring points and picking up first downs really so let it for what it's worth He did have some nice passes Later in the game the touchdown that was wide open on the crosser was yes, I mean is on time He's off balance though like he's off his back foot gets it on time. Yeah, and it's easy cheese for 30 yards Exactly. Yes, it's it's wide open, but also easy cheese on time 30 yards. That's impressive exactly lane skamed it up But yeah, I thought he's he's a great college quarterback. This is what I saw from ASU when they were really good and You know, it's just as a pro prospect that's gonna be tough Especially when you look at the the slate of quarterbacks that we could potentially have in this class That is maybe my more overarching theme
Is that boy the depth at quarterback and edge in this class is just Wild mm-hmm. I'm I'm adding like five more guys to my list after week one and It's pretty crazy. Yeah, it's pretty crazy That LSU game the two pro prospects particularly with an eye to the Broncos that impressed me the most Were Tradez green the masses six seven tight end on the broadcast. They're talking about he added 20 pounds in the off season Which Hank when we were talking about him previewing we told you was like six seven, but like two thirty something and you were like jeez I can't get over that way Yeah, I think he's a list of that two forty two so it's not You know again if he was listed at put on another ten in your right right right still building but He just looks like a gigantic wide receiver out there and he runs so well with the ball
Because he's long glimmed and stuff. He's gonna struggle a little bit to get you know The quick twitch stuff to get open in the first five yards, you know at the top of your route is gonna be a little more complex for him but um the receiving talents obvious and then I just love the compete level um as a blocker and Jordan Ceyton just looks like a girl man now. Yeah, man. He was really impressive He looked really athletic and handled and I do think the Clemson defense does have quite a bit of talent still I don't know what they're doing on offense frankly, but Yeah, he played he played really well. So both I mean We're gonna talk about trade as green and Jamari Johnson for the Broncos We talked about him in the offseason. We're gonna talk about him after week one and I wouldn't be surprised if we're talking about one of them when we're doing our draft a recap
Yeah, and when we're talking about the latest mox the week of the draft like those are just names that will be on our radar all season Because they just have the tools So what you described to me about trade as green just sounded exactly like how we talked about Colston leveling to me He's got some Colston lump dude. I see him. He reminds me a lot of Graham Jimmy Graham. Yeah, all right like I think I think maybe Sean is over the Justin Jolie's and the Evan Ingrams and is ready to go back to the Jimmy grams the Shaukes Even Caleb loner like if you liked Caleb loner and we're willing to take a flyer on a basketball player who looks like that You're gonna love trade as green in the first round. You're gonna love that dude Will helps a nice edge rusher for Clemson He's a Purdue transfer at seven sacks last year at Clemson and Yeah, just a guy to keep an eye on for sure in that game
But LSU we are we are buying this early on yep, yeah, I am too They are for I picked him as my national title pick before the season wow Yeah Wow and could not have been more impressed honestly. No, Kenneth. That's a take in the preseason. Yeah, yeah with all the turmoil and stuff going around Um look late is just an unbelievable football coach You can say whatever you want about him, but his teams They come to play with a certain edge man. They are physical. They run the football and they are just He's scheming open touchdowns constantly. It's an unbelievable football coach, and I think he really feeds off being the big Perfect for the big bad evil bad guy on on the block You know like he can really lean into that. I don't know if you guys heard the leaked a half-time speech he gave yeah Incredible. Yeah, that's basically how I sound on our monthly meetings basically Yeah, that's it right there. There's a lot of efforts and
Just y'all and all the time love it Talking about how everyone hates us um Never been more true say stay staying with the quarterbacks Boy Dairy amensa in his Miami debut was impressive Against the Stanford defensive line that was in his face all lot And yet with pressure in his face he was threading the needle deep And was 27 of 30 for five tuts and 401 yards Two more touchdowns than he had in completions Um against a Stanford defensive front that kept Mark Fletcher in that Miami run game to a pretty modest alpha Also worth mentioning menza was taken out of the game halfway through the third. Yeah, so he put those numbers up and basically a half and God Malachi Tony's on Reyes. He's got some Travis Hunter too. How he moves he does
he does and Four months ago. I would have thought you Like your you should get a cat scan if you thought Malachi Tony was a contender for Best wide receiver in the country I would entertain that hot take now. There's just a game Well, it's unreal. You watch him So it's over and over again. He's just wide open. They hit him every part of the field Um, and he looks incredible and you're like okay He's the best receiver in the country and then you turn on the Ohio State game what the next day And that with the I think it was the first touchdown. Maybe the only touchdown. Yeah Um that the what's his name? Jeremiah Smith Jeremiah Smith yet the Jeremiah Smith pulls in the one hand and like holds the ball out as he's going to the ground There's like that's that's special stuff too like the receivers in this class and you forget I mean Even at Bama like Ryan Coleman Williams now we have an name in there. Thank you
You're well-controlled last year, but like you start to see him kind of bounce back Despite a quarterback who I think might just be terrible Well, I don't know if you guys saw in the rundown. I've got KJ Duff the massive 65 220-pound Rutgers wide receiver. He was doing stuff last year Oh, that was unbelievable. He had an unreal season and Rutgers gets upset by UMass That was like the upset of the weekend Which also tell see the state of college football we used to get much juicier. Well We could talk about But that was not an upset but KJ Duff was second only to Malachi Tony and receiving yards in week one he almost had 200 on the day and had three tuts He just uses that six five frames so well and is another guy who feels like Taylor made to be drafted by One Sean Payton If you just watched the KJ Duff highlights you would have thought that Rutgers beat UMass by 40 points
Yes, yes, he was just towering over he is it's we're bowling those DBs 100 percent 100 percent But yeah, that's just I mean it's crazy it took him that long to just like we're just gonna throw the ball up for this guy in that game Because all those highlights and stuff coming like the second half yeah I had he was their entire offense. Yeah crazy. Yeah, they kind of realized they couldn't bully UMass and the trenches so they were just like KJ Duff's down there somewhere find them throw it through. It's got to be such a tough realization No kidding They have not Rutgers has just not crack taking advantage of having that northeast pipeline to the big town. No Um Back to Mensa you guys were fairly lukewarm. Well you guys were anti-SAM levit and his pro prospects Mensa intrigued you guys more than that. Oh, yeah. Yeah, um, tell me more It's just the arm the touch the feel for throwing the ball the touch was really impressive man
Fethery Tyler Schuck like just like it's right such a catchable ball. Yep. Yeah, ball hardly hits the ground It's just he's got it you can move. He's avoiding pressure Oh, you're good. Yeah, no, I mean he's It's just sharp. I was dominant. I didn't miss any opportunities. Just hits every single throw Yes, like if there's a little more pressure, you know what happens Um, it is like boy against a real defense If that's how they're in pass pro they might be in trouble like commensa Mensa might go the way of cam ward where it's like This is by the second half of the season. It becomes a little too nutty. Yeah, their schedule is so easy this year though I mean talk to me You got Florida a&m this week you got wake forest and then central Michigan after that you got I guess I mean, I don't even know if we're calling this a tough road game at the beginning of October at Clemson You got Florida state after that Yeah, you know, Carolina then at Notre Dame first weekend of november
There you go Duke Virginia Tech Boston College Yeah, that's a really easy slay man In a down year for the league period if Clemson and Florida state are this bad I mean Clemson Florida state and Georgia Tech all looking that bad, you know losing week one is Really bad for the ACC. Yeah Not to mention the fact that Stanford still like At least a year away from where you'd where Andrew Luck would want them to be um Chamblist uh Yeah, Chamblist thoughts. Yeah, that was the the classic Trinidad experience. He's awesome man. He has That touchdown late in the game to rip it up the seam against that cover three That's where it's all about right there. They got a was his name do salisander that wider season. Yeah, he's a letric He is did it with all not much from uh Lacey as well Lacey left the game in the second half
Yeah, which is a bummer because I really liked how they were utilizing him to start the game I'm really like lacey. I hope he's okay. Yep Cham is he a little too wild for your uh taste tank? No, no, I mean Once it causes problems then yeah, then then I will adjust as of now he it's it's kind of chaotic But it generally works out for him um Yeah, I mean, I mean fringe pro prospect though Just because of some of the chaotic and the size some of that sort of stuff I did but I'm not the right leaf drafted guys like that exactly high in recent you and that's why I'm not I'm not ready to write him off yet I want to see it cause issues in college before I Start to worry he ran through the field in the playoff last year did sure did He was so clutch and was really clutching that Louisville late win 21-36 and it's so much backyard football
He did fade down the stretch though Like when uh Louisville started coming back. I think he just he wasn't as good as he was earlier in that game. Yeah Yeah, no doubt um Agreed. Yeah, there's just enough to make me be like Yeah, I get it Um, even though I mean coming into the end of last year I was ready he was my cubie one had he declared I think Which is crazy Jada my my off we now have two games dude 64 230 moves decently This if Lincoln Riley does it again. He did it. Yeah. No, he's for real man. He is They got a bounty of weapons there as well They do it was like it was almost like diet Caleb William stuff that he was doing He wasn't doing the crazy crossbody throws and you know running around for 10 seconds But he was extending some plays he was keeping his eyes down feel and he was making some impressive throws from different platforms
Yeah, yeah almost responsible Caleb Williams of sorts. Yeah, right. Yeah um Oregon based barely scrapes by Boise State Uh Do you guys that was going to be my over yet have Oregon concerns that was going to be my over reaction Shocked any hanky they just uh so if you want to give them the benefit of doubt you'd say early on There were a couple turnover on downs. Uh-huh like they they could have built that lead They were aggressive early and just didn't work out the moth pump by Evan stewart doesn't help right like I it was in some ways kind of fluky that it was that close Yes I thought they were just going to dominate and I think specifically the defense was going to be able to just handle that Boise State offense and maybe um Uh Maddox madz in the Boise State quarterback. Maybe I'm not giving him the respect that he deserves um, but I really thought that Oregon defense was going to be able to handle Boise and I think down the stretch maybe got a little bit better
Um, but those big guys in the trenches that we're excited about I came away just a little bit disappointed Yeah, I mean it was somewhat of an underwhelming performance into the context of the season. I'd really hope Honestly that Oregon doesn't get punished for this too much because you went out and actually played someone in week one like True, we got to stop doing this like You know talking shit about Kurt Signetti schedule and then when Oregon actually co-s and plays someone and they're in a game It's like oh well now we got to and then Oregon loses four spots in the AP poll. It's like right what are we doing man? Yeah so But uh they were impressive when I was watching it on like three screens at once. I was like oh man Oregon rewatching some of this stuff to prep for today My biggest takeaway was Boise really looked the part Like just those guys put them in a p4 jersey and you don't blink an eye right um and
The offense look good I think your defensive concerns might be legit Hank yeah um But offensively I would feel pretty good if I'm an Oregon fan Jamari Johnson with a great block on I believe it's the first touchdown down in the red zone Just clearing everything out catches a touchdown himself The air to Kenyansidek I think is gonna be a real factor Well season though base just off of week one might be more intrigued by trade-ows green Okay, like hot They feel a little Tyler Warren, Colston, Loveland. Yeah, you can see that like this We might have a two-headed monster in this tight end class, which is exciting Because when that's the case you Reept the benefits. Yeah, yeah Um The only other notes I had were um
Baw the Florida running back close rb1 Real rb1 I would not be shocked if we're sitting here I don't know post national title game everything's in the bag and he's still rb1. He's different though He I couldn't believe he's listed at 225 That was honestly my biggest concern was can he like move well? And does he have the speed to make it happen? He's so shifty. He's on he's unreal. Yeah. Yeah, he's a pro Contact balance power Shiftingness and like a really good downhill runner. Mm-hmm Um, yeah, no doubt and then camp cook West Virginia running back He had some big plays he opened the game with like an almost 80-order And then just like the way he was utilized both in the past game and unlike you know um Ladder or rons and jet sweeps and stuff like that Very very intriguing little running back. It's a running back class that sneaky has some juice Mm-hmm between lacey and Ahmed Hardy and um mark fletcher and I mean Isaac Brown at Louisville
Brown at Louisville. I know I'm blanking on a couple um, I'd still throw justice hands in there dude justice I can't I was really impressed by the opening stretch. Yeah He was kind of As advertised there, you know, and then the defense clamped them down and I didn't think the passing offense could make enough of the difference um on top of the fact that Maybe Georgia tech was a bit too stubborn in their approach Yeah, and just stuck to it. They were convinced they would break that buffs front sooner or later And they didn't and that Campbell came up Colorado for sure um That's really interesting that you're that high on ball. Yeah, no, I've seen enough It's also like Running backs have a short leash like if rj doesn't take that leap this year Hank. Yeah
You're already in the market for Just seeing what's out there, you know, definitely maybe you're not getting fully divorced but uh You're jumping on the the dating apps, you know, you're starting to swipe and stuff Second round pick. He's completely replaceable. Yeah, yeah, no no no um Any other standouts or things you wanted to talk about from week one Oh man um We can get into these mocks. I like the Louisville quarterback quite a bit too Uh Lincoln kind holds yeah, he was fun to watch good runner. Yep um also Ole Miss like they're fun I don't think that's a team that can sustain through an SEC season and win double digit games, right? They got issues defensively It's gonna be tough for them to make the playoffs and that's supposed to be what the head coach is calling card is indeed defense so that's concerning Um, I'm just scanning through you can go ahead if you want
Oh, yeah, we've got a few mocks the one that I think was most interesting was this Bleacher report mock that had Jeremiah Smith going first overall to the dolphins Which boy that'd be a choice um Bless you men's a going to the cards at number two Arch going number three to the jets, but what really stood out were some of the other picks that aren't the guys we were talking about as much in the preseason um Well for one C.J. Cargo and eighth overall to the Falcons. I thought he played well too. Yeah, I'm he's impressive. I like him um You had Ashden Hampton the Clemson corner going to the Giants at 11 He actually if I'm not mistaken had a he had to pick but it was okay. Right a weird the ball was Yeah, he was like a drop almost like he just threw it to the corner. It's not great coverage But he like took advantage of play that was there. He's physical. He looks the part. Um, you have
Notre Dame safety Bronte say that again. Bronte. Okay. I said Bronte Johnson Going 12 to the Steelers in their Scouting report it says physicality in size six to two hundred pounds in the run game paired with instinctual play on the back end Make Johnson a true impact player even as the classes number one safety the junior prospect So it's even more room for improvement this fall that Notre Dame defense has pros all over um Jaden ball goes 14 to the Vikings in this um mock So he is rb1 in this one um, so you're not that crazy. No with that take Um, and then Ellis Robinson the fourth the Georgia cornerback Going 16th to the bears um So just those were a few things that stood out to me Jordan seat net sick at 18 boy if he keeps up what we saw in week one. He's going like he's going way higher. Yeah
Um, Xavier Brown who we talked a little bit about Hank the Bama corner who's it feels very uh Very George Payt nesk right everything when stuff's in front of him he has great instincts and just jumps to the ball quickly And there's a reason I pointed out some of those risers are db's because that might be the Broncos biggest need Coming into the draft next year This mock did give the Broncos at pick 21 Nick comarge the 63210 pound wide receiver at Indiana he made a really nice one handed snag for a touchdown in week one he is Uh, Michigan state transfer um also prospects considered it had will help the Clemson edge I talked about Uh, Jerry Hill the Michigan corner and K1 Lacey I'd be shocked if they went wide receiver Think I'm leaning that way too, but I wouldn't be mad at it. Yeah, and there's just a lot of ways they put I mean if you get rid of court in the offseason then the doors open
So they're going to need to make some decisions like that to save money in the offseason. Um, yeah, you had a big extension coming up here soon. Right. So As it stands now know, but again like I would also say you don't need to tackle Other than the fact that you could move on to Mike McClendon you have to hear and all of a sudden like and somebody like that is likely gone Yeah, which would open the door Yeah, um There's a lot of receivers in this class though like I think that good wide receiver class You know, there's a possibility that you get to the end of the year and you're kind of in a similar state situation Especially if you're picking high where it's just like well There's five top 50 wide receivers on the board here still and Yeah, I know we could get a little cheaper at the position. So I know it's just They feel pretty loaded and young outside of the top two, you know, and even the top two aren't like Sure aging vets, you know, they're like in their in their prime. Um, I think there's gonna be lots of offensive line targets to
Just as we look at right now. I mean, it's obviously tough to get a tackle if you're picking high, but I think you could have some options. I do wonder about this tackle class a little bit after the top two guys and and goosby and um Seaton like, uh, you know next up would be Anthony Knapp Kind of an undersized uh Notre Dame tackle guard who I think would shift inside Trevor Locke from um the Iowa Hawkeyes as a guy who's got Some good hype, but probably projects more as someone who goes inside Carter Smith the Indiana left tackle Good moves well, but I think he's more He shifts inside or he's zone blocking only as a tackle uh, Nikki prongos has the the height of the Stanford left tackle, but I wonder if there's some measurement issues uh like france comp is borshard rhyman
Who uh had classically short arms Um, sirvolt the Ohio State offensive tackle. I see a lot of people putting him more at guard So yeah, it's just one of those classes where it's like the top two guys and then similar to last year Is it just a bunch of dudes who are just guards and not really tackles totally can absolutely be the case um Keep an eye on jacarious peak the South Carolina offensive tackle who has some really intriguing tools And I've seen some people are pretty high on but yeah um David Sanders at tennis the ESA former five star. He'd be someone to watch out for Mm-hmm. Yes, Texas tech has some guys too Right both those offensive tackles uh, we talked about that in the big 12. Yeah, prospects. We did last year last week Speaking of big 12 um drew master maker He was a ready bro. Yeah, terrible. He was awful. Yeah, and terrible against an opponent that
You should have handled at north Texas that they're in the same conference Yeah, so that's a bit of a shocker To think that organ's tough test was Boise State and they're just gonna Smoke Oklahoma state is kind of crazy. Yeah, 22 point favorites Yeah, um, he's not ready though He needs some time and I mean they brought in a lot of north Texas players they did they did on the offensive line at running back They didn't look like they were really ready. I mean that running back was okay. He had some time. Yeah some some plays but Yeah, I mean he had a bad American conference title game last year too. I don't know if people really remember that they played uh Oh god, who did they play? Can't remember but he did not look good in that game might have been too lame. Yeah as a pocket passer um He's really got a shine or else he's just got like Luke Falk stank on him y'all remember Luke Falk just Washington state. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, thanks Thanks Hank that really makes you feel good about a guy who at one point I think I had ranked like
30th on my board coming into the year. You know I'm done it all went south Um, I have to say the best of us. So yeah, I'm having a little like flashbacks true To To being too high on um Luke Falk back in the day And you know my concerns with the With the tackle class I think Um The other side of that coin is I probably as I'm starting to add names Feel better and better about this uh DB class KJ Bolton's a safety at Georgia who's uh, you know We I didn't bring up when I was talking about those risers. How about Leonard Moore Yeah, more as a freak with McKinney on the other side too. Yeah, I get ridiculous And then the safety there, right Leonard Moore's got some of the cleanest tape. I think I've seen so far. Yeah I think Notre Dame might finally actually be good The defense is super for real and you have the quarterback
Notre Dame Post Brian Kelly That old line pipeline has dried up a little bit Um, the Joe Alts and Mike McGlinchis aren't there right now and I do wonder Against a Miami in early November could that impact you, you know Yeah, cuz that's that's always my thought about Notre Dame or has been the last couple of years is like the defense is gonna be good The offense is just not gonna quite have enough like they're never gonna win a shootout Yeah, maybe that hasn't changed without the offensive line Um Kelly Jones corner from Mississippi state six three. He's awesome. His upside is through the roof um And nice to see some people in the chat asking about Drew Locke out playing Drake, Mayhanky. Yeah He did Was impressive feeling we're gonna be making some Seahawks bets Going forward those lines are gonna look a lot better with with through Out there instead of
Donald, I'm not sure the difference is that big yeah or how big it it is big I think it's pretty big I just to me it's not a Quarterback reliant team in any way. Yes, sure the big Unreal exactly and so you just put Drew out there and if he's actually hitting short passes like he did last night They're gonna be just fine. He was still able to feed JSN right like yeah I think that once they get a little bit more clarity and that running back for him and they I mean we'll see on that if they actually give Giderian price to football yeah, you look good. He did look good, but uh That's sharpen is coming back Sooner rather than later it sounds like so That would help a lot I think look Yeah, I can carry 52 yards for Giderian I brought he just looked good like he did the stats may not look great and I know fantasy managers are probably pissed about it because it was only like seven points or whatever But he looked good. He looked the part Um We've got Justin Michael on the line
Ringamanya talking some picks on the Xfinity call in line. What up Jay Mike? How are we doing brother? What up boys has everybody doing great to see you bro. We're doing great footballs back and it's fueling our souls Jay Mike um How about them Rams huh? Who are the top prospects to watch when we tune in on Saturdays to watch uh To watch the rammies As far as next year's draft goes I mean, it's kind of Impiguous in terms of who would realistically be declaring or not Yeah, the abilities just so wonky right now. You're telling me brother. Yeah, like you could come back You're I think they'll all be old enough But umar de amande at linebackers the stud He came over from Yukon. He was everywhere on Saturdays a great open field tackler highly athletic I actually had an interception with me. It was a ball that went right to him But nice to see him make that play he's a stud They've got a couple of guys that came over from Yukon that are pretty intriguing brand and Kelly
Who in their defense is classified as a jack, but it's kind of just like a At rusher defensive and basically a hybrid uh, he's he's got great size The statistical production is not there the past couple years. He was kind of in the You know, he was the next in line or whatever and came over you know with mora and he's somebody who I think definitely has NFL potential offensively uh juice for a unit tight end is a study's a great past catcher He was a four star guy coming out of high school was at NC state initially Really broke out for Yukon last year had a couple of Touchdowns in an upset over Duke and had a big game against Maryland as well if I remember Are the running backs are good Mel Brown to rel Robinson both those guys had power for interest Robinson was at Auburn last year But he got hurt Put up big stats a couple years ago. So those are those are the main ones that come to mind I mean hot hay needs a lot of fun to watch as far as his NFL potential goes. I don't know about that. He's he's a little bit undersized and
And all that but he's a beast of an athlete and he is probably one of the faster CSU players that I've gotten to cover So it's hopefully going to be a fun year. It's nice to cover a winning team going into week two Never been able to say that to as an employee of this company. So I'm gonna appreciate the moment while I can That's crazy um Do you monté especially? I think there might be an opening in a linebacker class uh That's not necessarily stellar as we kind of prepare going into this season Um that might be a guy to watch for sure Could be a bronca's guy too right just get I mean you got An aging core and who kind of knows what happens post this season. So it's somebody to keep an eye on Well, if he's a UDFA watch him in three years, you know He could be competing for a starting spot That's how they like to do things much the Jose chagrin right shout out Jose um Let's get into these picks man. Let's uh Let's start off with the banger
Ohio state at Texas When I checked last night Long corn's favored by one and a half Uh, all odds brought to you by the great Uh friends at drafting sports Who we got Uh, you know start us off take I'm taking Texas at home. I just think that like these are two of the best rosters in the country I just think I'm leaving out the home field advantage Yeah I just think Texas has more overall talent across the board Um, and I think that you know if it comes down to a gritty tight game They'll be able to run the ball with a little bit more success I think So I'm gonna take Texas Justin, what you got Hank and I need some guidance here I do like Texas to win this game at home as well I will say it's tough to go against Ohio state in the setting though they've won like 17 straight in september They've looked good, you know when these teams have played the past couple years
Yeah, I will say I do like the under in this game five straight Ohio state games have gone under when they played last fall It was you know only a 921 points So that that's kind of what I have my own But if you are going just straight up who wins this game? I I would lean Texas, but I wouldn't underestimate Ryan Day's ability to win the big game like I know he's had a couple of moments against michigan But don't feel great these past couple years, but Historically that's a guy that kind of tends to rise to the occasion Oh, man, it's so hard. I just have like massive deja vu like Texas is the more talented roster. They're at home But it's just every time we think Texas is gonna just like Take that definitive big dog step And I don't maybe that's not fair to Sark who's like had him as a top four team For like three years in the row and they've always made the playoffs basically under him and arch They stand to corner and six straight matchups when it's been both teams is top 10 Texas undersark
They have a covered in six straight of these these top 10 games so some to consider man if they won But didn't cover that would be oh just they win by one Oh happy with that would be incredible um So I don't know like based purely on vibes. I'm gonna go Ohio State. Yeah, I'd I'd Ohio State to me and they've got the Better receiver of either team Yeah, yeah, the better running back of every team and they've got the better quarterback of either team And I think that when you just look at those big-through unoffence. I just trust them A lot more than I trust the archmaning camcola and so I'm going that way Yeah, I think this game will tell us a lot about both those defenses and I like your pick on the under Justin but um The offenses are the more established NFL ready Talent-wise units for both teams, you know Totally it just feels like a classic everybody goes into this game Oh man archmaning we get to see this epic, you know quarterback battle and then you look up and it's a you know
17 13 game with five minutes left in the fourth. I mean, I'm seeing it at 49 and a half. I wouldn't Like I'd maybe buy that down and take under like 45, you know like get some extra juice Because I think you're spot on with that thinking The other big kind of marquee matchup as far as Name recognition programs. I think is Oklahoma At Michigan. This was a game we were over reacting to Left right and center last year um And I don't know if we'll be doing that this year. It's in the big house But Oklahoma's a five and a half point favorite Jamie let's start off with you on this one This might be the rare instance where if you're Michigan you would rather be going on the road this week just given the The pressure. I mean, this is after that debacle last week they have to show up and
Witting him is such a good coach that I have a hard time just seeing them be a mess this year and defensively They did a lot of things good in that game and westerns good like they'll be one of the The group of 16s that's in the combo for the CFP in November but That Oklahoma offense I'll be it you know against lesser competition looked pretty pretty explosive and Michigan You've got some serious quarterback questions right now. So I guess my question is Can Michigan move the ball with enough consistency and produce enough to outscore Oklahoma? Can they get that ground game going and then you know like How short at least do you have you know with underwood in the scenario because You do have a couple of guys, but it would be hilarious if Braden Fowler and Nicolose ended up in the game at some point Just to see how it plays out but it I lean Oklahoma pretty heavily in this one, but I do think that It would not be surprising at all when everybody buries a Kyle Wittingham team if he just you know
Punches back their touchdown dogs and like Michigan just wins this game With you know pure grit that that feels very winning him to me But I like that Oklahoma offense and it's got a lot of former CSU guys. So maybe that's that's part of it as well Yeah, and I like that Oklahoma defense too. I think that's the other pieces I just I struggle to see Michigan's offense after what we saw last week Do much at all against Oklahoma like if they get to 20, I'll be pretty surprised And for that reason it's Oklahoma to me Yeah, David Stone the defensive tackle is a A monster a little undersized, but I think he could wreck havoc Uh for that Michigan offense. He's a stud for the sooners former five star It's gross, but I think I'm taking Michigan in this. I think you've got to respond. I think this is You know, we've seen it all the time in college football where the last week just doesn't matter for some of these games I think that Tommy Carr is the player that you could see in place of Bryce under what is certain point is a blue chipper
True freshman in this last class He's C.J. Carr's younger brother. He they are both the grandson of Lloyd Carr uh Famous Michigan head coach, so um Look, I just think that's crazy. Yeah, I think this is just kind of a back against the wall like You could see it completely fired up different team or I look like an idiot in a couple days, but yeah I think what I'm hearing as we like the under 43 and a half seems a little high for these two teams. Yeah Um, I like Isaiah Satania the wide receiver Arkansas transfer who had a nice year For the sooners. I think he's a good guy to watch potential day two pick Man This is a big test for John Mateer on the road With how the second half of the year was for him You're really gonna need a bounce back in this one um So you're taking Michigan straight up not just again not just to cover the five and a half
I don't know about that. I'll take him against the spread I mean look Michigan allow a defense an offensive touchdown last week too like of all the things to complain about like They they did hold them when they mattered most and that's what kept them in the game is forcing fuel goes instead of allowing touchdown And winning hands never like he's so rarely is gonna be out of a game. Yes, like he's just he will have that They'll be sticking around and that's the Does Mateer make it you know done mistake late in the third you know early in the fourth Where you just hang around long enough and then you know you look up and they Skank out and ugly win like That that feels like you taught at that a thousand times under him over the last 15 years, but Oh, this was a very close game last year too and Bryce was he was struggling in that one as well I'm gonna take Michigan straight up. I've talked to myself in I Everybody else see Oklahoma put 70 on the board Michigan, you know, they're gonna be the team that everybody roots again because
Of how that whole situation played out. Mm-hmm. It just feels like classic dumb college football shit where you look up and they just went a really ugly game I love this I've heard you guys talk And I got too cutesy miss my picks and took too many underdogs versus the spread Last week, I'm not gonna overthink it. I'm just taking Oklahoma by five and a half Staying in the sooner state Oregon Oklahoma state in Stillwater as 23 and a half point favorites my God We're gonna start with you again, Jay-Mike because you can probably grant us more insights on How good or bad was that close scary win over Boise State for Oregon Boise is good man like They're great in the trenches
They didn't even run the ball well and they stayed in that game That's what I think should be really scary for like teams that are in the pack 12 is Oregon shut that run game down and two madson's credit and I am an infamous madson's skeptic You played a really solid game. I know I will say I know a mess-to-maker was bad in that last game. I gotta imagine it'll be a little bit better this week But you'd have to I think this game could get ugly. I just don't I don't think Oklahoma state as the guys And I think Oregon's gonna be pissed off Pist off Dan landing versus a desperate first year coach who's really gonna be you know as soon as it's 14-0 Five minutes in the game the the tension that's gonna be on that Oklahoma state sideline like I kind of think this is a just Uncompetitive one one side isn't a much different place and maybe he gets that program going a couple years from now But it reminds me of like a couple of those Jane or Val C SU teams trying to go play Texas or Michigan
Those got ugly Yep Yeah, I mean the Oklahoma state You you can't lose by 14 to Tulsa and convinced me that you're going to keep it within 25 against Oregon You just can't and as much as I agree with Jamie Mike. I'm not a madson fan Hover up ever than what we saw from mess-to-maker. So I I think that this has to be Oregon I think that game might have turned me into a madmax fan uh Give me the ducks by a million give me the over because they're winning by a million The only doubt I would have is that it's a 10 a.m. game and for a pacific team In you know the heat and humidity of Oklahoma you might feel that a little more Now you also might have an advantage that the game's a 10 a.m. instead of like the Peak hours of when the sun's out so Jake unanimous It's a massive number to be on the road though. It's a master. I mean you are in backdoor cover danger this entire game no matter
How big the lead is yes all that being said. I think J. Max right the talent on Oregon's overwhelming. I'm taking the ducks nice Arizona state at Texas a.m 14 and a half point favorites are the Aggies in college station Hard to say you were this is your conference though Arizona state is so yeah start us off Jake. I'm I think I'm gonna take the sun devils I think that Kenny Dillonham kind of proves that he's one of the better coaches overall in the sport Uh, in matchups like this. I think that you know, they're gonna be gritty. They're gonna you know I'm getting Marcel Reed on the other side like I think that's a type of quarterback that could give it away a time or two and Keep Arizona state in this game. So Arizona state was impressive. They did they played school of the deaf in the blind last week, but I think that they're gonna be tuned up for this game and I think that Marcel Reed just keeps him in it
Okay, I think they'll hang around man. I think they'll be in that game I don't know if they win it outright on the road, but I like them to cover two touchdowns Tough Tough tough tough, Hanky I'm leaning toward the cover I think the unders more tempting to me. I think there are a bunch of different paths to the under 50 and a half I like that quite a bit um and I think that what goes along with that is Yeah, I Texas a and I'm just not being able to put up enough points To cover that 14 like I think the very least Arizona state is gonna be within range of getting a lady score and getting it gained the backdoor cover And so I'll go Arizona state as well You guys have talked me into it though. I do the dilling cam respect as legit I would also think elco deserves a lot of respect Yes, I think we'll have that defense humming So I don't think this lines too far off, but
I think Arizona state can stay within two touchdowns. I like that you get that extra half point Yes, especially yes thousand percent yeah 10 10 to 13 and a half I think I'd be pretty like torn jay mike you suggested Memphis at Boise State with Boise State eight and a half point favorites talk to me about this one I think Boise is gonna roll this is a big game with big CFP implications Memphis is a really solid team they You know beat you and LV on the road who I honestly am kind of a skeptic of and I think everybody is bought in the little prematurely It's a fun story and they'll still be a decent team, but pump the brakes a little bit I just think Boise is in such a good spot coming Back home. They got to be feeling confident and like I said they only averaged like 2.6 yards per carry and that game against Oregon They have two tremendous running backs If Boise can run the football and Madsen even plays you know
Scratches the surface of what he did against that Oregon defense. I just don't see how you stop them Consistently and Boise's got a really great defense the other way. They've got a really stout defensive line They're fast in the secondary I don't love their corners, but that D line especially in their O line I just think it's such a huge advantage. So I think it's a fun game on paper But I kind of think this is another statement performance from Boise coming off of that Oregon game where they're like no We are the team to be when it comes to the CFP combo Eight and a half that'd be a statement for sure The only thing I'd counter with is Memphis has money. They built a very impressive roster for their level I did watch the first game against UNLV and they impressed me in that game But I think I'm going to side with Jay Mike here just I mean it's in Boise I think that what they showed last week was for real was replicable And I think that they you know as much as I like Memphis's roster They still are maybe a tick above the Tigers in terms of talent
I think it'll be a game for a while for the record like I'm not saying they just murder him I just think that Boise run game at home. It wears you down Yeah, I mean, I didn't have I'm taking two possessions. I think yep Memphis is intriguing to Their head coach might have some legs In the next couple years as kind of one of those next guys up coached under Sabin and stuff Um, that's the real deal Who I'm blanking who's the The like red shirt freshman running back for Boise who had a big run against Oregon boy He looks like Ily or Sire gains Sire gains looks the part. I think he was gains who had the big run. Yeah Um, I've got my eye on him. I don't think he's draft eligible, but I would be A very intrigued by him in a couple years um We've gone for the hour. Thanks got a Bronco show um Well, last note for Jay Mike. Please Southern Utah this week watch Floyd Chalk the running back. He's
Yeah, former KU and San Jose State guy. Yeah, I run in the hell out of the football. I'm a little uneasy Go into this and he's he's talking getting in guy's faces. I'd either he's gonna have a big game or he's gonna get himself thrown out That's that's my call my type of player. Yep. I like it Beautiful. Love it. Thanks for doing this Jay. Mike. This was a blast Yeah, anytime guys. It was fun to be back on the pod with you hell. Yeah That was just a Michael on the Xfinity call in line. Imagine that And that's gonna do it for us boys We're just gonna get keep talking ball for the rest of the season and then more in the off season and on and on and on We shall go. I love this time of year. Love chopping it up with these boys and uh, we'll catch you next week. Bye
