The Italians, the undefeated Italians who were nearly two to one underdogs in this game. They're nearly halfway there to setting up a rematch with Team USA in the championship game in Miami tomorrow. But right now, Venezuela's got the momentum. So we've been, I've had an eye on this game for most of the show so far. And that bottom of the second inning was really the opportunity for Italy. They knocked. Then as well, a starting pitcher, Cydermontero, out of the game in the bottom of the second. He had a descenzo single and then he walked three straight

5:17guys to bring in a run, keep the bases loaded. And Omar Lopez ends up being a brilliant move, doesn't mess around. Yanks is starting pitcher out of the game, brings in Ricardo Sanchez, who had a six ERA in the Mexican league last year. He hasn't pitched an age really baseball and I think like three or four years. And he gives up a run on a field. There's choice. But then he gets Antonucci to ground out with runners on second and third. Another hit there could have made it a four-nothing game, could have put Italy out to a massive lead early. Instead, it stayed to nothing. And then Venezuela finally got to Aaron Nola, Ayuhanio Suarez, Geni Suarez with a home run to left center field, two to one. And now that is where we stand. And it looks like Italy just got out of a jam, but Michael Lorenzan coming into pitch. He was initially supposed to be the starter. And then Francisco severely changed it to go to Aaron Nola. Nola comes out after his four innings and Lorenzan

6:22gave up a lead off walk, which the Cardinal Sin. Cardinal Sin. But he ends up getting out of it. Michael Garcia just grounded out to short to end the inning. So we go to the bottom of the fifth. Italy leads Venezuela, two to one. I thought there would be a lot of offense in this. And maybe there will be now that we've gotten to both both pens here. But so far, it's turned into a couple of, you know, a couple of jams that the pitching staffs have gotten their way out of here. Italy holding on leading Venezuela, two to one, bottom five, the winner plays team USA in the championship game tomorrow. And I just got some thoughts on that USA game yesterday because it was incredible. It was incredible. It was everything you want to see in a high profile game like that. Two juggernauts, the USA and the Dominican Republic going at it. You got a couple of home runs in the fourth inning, Roman Anthony, Gunner Henderson and Roman Anthony, you know, go deep

7:22off of Severino and Soto. After junior, junior commonero launches one off of Paul Skins in the second inning. And when junior commonero hit that home run, I was like, oh boy, I was like, is the great, untouchable Paul Skins about to get lit up here. And you know, Paul Skins didn't have his best stuff last night. Again, I get it. It's essentially spring training. These guys aren't even fully warmed up. They're not pitching more than 70, 75 pitches. But Paul Skins showed you why. He's a Saiyong award winner. Paul Skins showed you why he's a top three pitcher on the planet. I still think Tarek Skubel, he's won back the back Saiyong's. He deserves the nomenclature of best pitcher on the planet right now. But Paul Skins is right there with him. And maybe if he wasn't pitcher for the pirates and we got to see him pitching the postseason, maybe we would be thinking we might I would be saying otherwise. But you know, even on a nice where Paul Skins didn't have his best stuff, you know, you struggling with his

8:23fastball command for a little bit. He gave up six hits. He only had two strikeouts. He still only gave up that one run. The one mistake, the common arrow. That was it. And so that was huge. For him to not get rattled by that moment, you know, in Miami, and you got half the crowds split between the USA and the Dominican Republic, that was great. You know, the bullpen comes out and just does a bang up job. Robbers, jacks, bad dog, getting out of that chame in the seventh inning was monstrous. And then Whitlock and then Miller are closing it down. That was great. That was everything you wanted to see from team USA. You know, you get great plays in the field by Harper, great plays in the field, Judge gunning down Tatees. That third base was awesome. And it just sucks that you have a great game like that. And it gets determined by human error. It gets determined by human error. Mason Miller's slider on that pitch, the heraldopardoma was nowhere close. Absolutely nowhere close. As slider,

9:24it was well below the knees. And I know that, you know, nowadays we all were all umpires at home when we see it out of the zone. We're like, there was out of their little box. They painted on my TV. And sometimes these pitches have so much movement that they actually cross as a strike. And that's why I like when think, you know, places do the 3D strike zone and everything. Even then some of that stuff's not perfect. That was clearly clearly not a strike, not even close. And we're about to go into a new era of baseball where we're going to have the ABS automated ball strike system. And we're going to have teams be able to use two challenges a game. That or gets, you know, just like last night, heraldopardoma thinks he gets jobbed by a slider below the knees. He taps the helmet, umpire checks right away. The automated ball strike system tells us whether or not it was a ball or a strike. It would have told us it was a ball. It would have said, okay, that's actually a ball. It's not strike three game continues. And I think it was a full count.

10:26I think off top of my head or it was to two county who have been a walk or the game would have continued. Rightfully so. Pitcher throws a fastball right on the corner. Doesn't get the call. They tap their hat. They can challenge. Catcher can do it as well. And so there we go. But you only get two of those per game. And and I get where we're at in society, right? I know that there's a lot of people that are rightfully worried about the future of AI and how many jobs it's going to take over and what's going to happen to us and what's going to happen to our economy. And we're relying so heavily already, you know, not to get political. Like we're relying on heavily right now on a stock market that is completely cropped up by an AI technological market. I don't I don't I don't want to get replaced by robots. All right. I don't think any of us do. But when it's something that is so simple where we can protect ourselves from the human element of the game, we can protect ourselves from terrible umpiring, terrible officiating,

11:30just flat out getting calls wrong. I mean, Armando Gala Raga's perfect game got ruined by Jim Joyce because he literally was staring right at the most obvious call in the history of baseball and ruined a perfect game. Like last night that game shouldn't have been decided by that. It was a great game. We shouldn't be remembering it because of a terrible called strike three at the end of the game. It should not have been ruined by human error. ABS not only needs to be in major league baseball this year. Forget about two challenges. I don't know what the right number is and that again, I don't I don't want umpires to be fully eliminated, but maybe maybe that's what it should be. Maybe we should just fast forward the 2028 or 2029 when ABS is fully implemented and we don't have human element dictating baseball games on a daily basis.

12:31Because if you watch baseball, you see it. You see it every day. Terrible calls. Terrible calls dictating at bats, dictating innings, dictating games. Why should that continue to be a thing in a game that's played every single day for six months? Why can't we just have an umpire back there that has the system strapped up to a little watch on his wrist? And if the call if the if the pitch is a strike, it beeps, he calls it a strike. Why like why can't we just get there in the sport of baseball already? Why do we still have to have games like last night ruined by a pitch that's nowhere close near the zone? And if you think two challenges that that's like that's going to help things, like you could have two challenges and one at bat because there's times where umpires miss calls twice and one at bat. Not often, but it can happen.

13:33Big playoff game this year, later this year, two borderline pitches that the umpire misses by, I mean, let's not say like he misses it by, you know, a sliver. Let's say he misses it by like a half an inch. Like it was a good frame job, but the pitch is not close to the strike zone. You could have two of those in one at bat. Oh, hey, sorry, you only get two challenges. All right, I know you get one back if you get it right, but like we're talking about maybe a maximum of three challenges here in a game. You shouldn't have to challenge strikes or ball calls if they're if they're wrong. And then, you know, because you're actually like you you you go two for three or you go one for two and all of a sudden in the ninth inning and there's a pitch that again dictates the game. We're going to be having the same conversation in a year from now. Oh, the Red Sox lost in game three in the wild card because they were at a challenges and umpire blew two terrible calls in the same inning. I don't know, I'm just I I've been watching sports.

14:37You know, when I was 17, when I was 19, I was 21, it was like, Oh, that's just part of the game, right? I've been watching sports now for 20, 25, 30 years. Uh, let's get the thoughts from our video producer Monty and our producer Brandon Combs because Monty says the human error that determined the game was the Dominican Republic's inability to score with runners on base many times before. That's true. That is true, Monty. But also they then you know like that that shouldn't be a reason to say, well, hey, we don't need ABS. Umpire should remain because you know what the DR should have scored before that. Okay, but they didn't they had to run around third. That shouldn't have been strike three on Perdomo. He should have gotten another chance to be able to single that

15:40run home and tie the game or it should have gone to the next batter. Our producer Brandon Combs says in our show chat a thousand percent, but also the automated zones are long overdue bad zones change at bats and approaches throughout the game. Monty said just don't be saying it cost them the game because it can't be boiled down to just that. And our producer Brandon Combs said it cost them the opportunity to make up for failing the rest of the game. True. That's true because that's a lot of you know, I took in a lot of social media today and a lot of people that were, you know, tweeting about the game and all this and all the DR they should have scored. Oh, they shouldn't ran themselves out of the inning. So they should have, you know, did this. Okay, but that doesn't mean that they deserve they get a terrible strike three called on them. That's just me. Anyway, this tournament's been a smashing success here. World baseball classic attendance growth in 2006 total attendance was under 750,000, 2009 it was over 800,000, 2013, slight dip,

16:41then 2017, 973,000, 2023 over 1.1 million and so far this year with still two games left, total attendance over 1.35 million people. And you're going to have, I imagine it's probably a close to a sold out crowd tonight in Miami and you're going to have a sold out crowd tomorrow night in Miami. So tremendous, tremendous, it's been a tremendous tournament.
