Sometimes my body floats after it. Yeah, you just like levitate through the air, suspended by an aroma stream,
or a little ribbon of scent. No, but like I'll picture a sandwich, like I'll just picture it sitting on a plate and a little starburst, just like a still life, but like a 50 style. You think it's an olive? Exactly, yeah. Yeah, I actually I guess it's more like ren and stimpy, but like that sort of like 50s style sandwich. Anyway, sandwich. Hi everyone. Hello everyone. That's sort of how I picture food in my mind. Same. So I finally went to my mind palace. My name is David Bell. My name is Tom Ryman. And we just watched best of the best two, the sandwich of films. We need to do one who did this. And then it is by you. You're an actor. Get it! Sevis of Sevisd. Before he gets started, Vincent is our Patreon producer.
They're to blame. Thank you. I assume you had us watch best of the best one, which we did. And thank you so much. In the order to watch. To watch best of the best two. That's the reason to watch best of the best one. There are many great reasons to watch best of the best. And I could have gone on the rest of my life. Just content with having watched best of the best and left it at that experience. Like I'm glad I saw that film. There's a lot of great ridiculous shit in it. Tremendous goofball, Eric Roberts, Chris Pine, top gun of karate. Love it. And then we get to watch best of the best two day. Did you see Chris Pine? Yeah, and I meant Chris Penn. Yeah. Yeah, all right. So my heart was too excited. I was too excited. Yeah, after watching this movie, I didn't need to watch the first movie. The problem. All right. So here's the puzzle. Is that you need to watch the flat.
I did. Yeah, like it's good to watch it to understand what this is. Yes. But like, if we were to throw this on on a Friday night, I wouldn't feel like the need to put on the first movie, I guess. I would. I would put both on. Okay. I'm not dissu- I'm not- to be clear, I'm not disagreeing that you can just start with best of the best two. You don't need to. It's not necessary to watch the first one in order to watch the second one, but there's- Yeah. There's enough great things. Like, the first 20 minutes of the- well, not even the first- it's throughout the entire film. Every time Eric Roberts mentions his son, he's like, oh, my beautiful son, Walter. Yeah. Everybody's like- It falls into a coma, Dave. I do. No, it's important for context, right? To know the importance of Chris Penn, to know who the eye patch guy is. Yeah, I think you have to know that eye patch guy. No, that eye patch guy is the man who ruthlessly killed Tommy's brother in the ring.
That's very important information. My first note was, man, what more are they gonna- like, what more do they have to say? And then it turns out the answer is a lot. They have a lot to say. This is the crocodile Dundee 2 of Best of the Best Tos. This movie fucking rules. I love this movie, Dave. I already texted you this before we recorded, but I almost watched this twice before we recorded. I almost watched this again. So this movie fucking rules. Best of the best the first movie, we've been watching it. It's Rocky with karate, right? It's karate. It's karate top gun. Yeah, it's an American team going to this championship. And this is important. This is important to describe. Eric Roberts, Chris Penn. I forget the actor's name, but he plays Tommy Lee. And they're all kind of competing with each other at first.
And then they all kind of unite. And the idea is that the characters, but none of them made it to the sequel anyway. Right. And the lesson is that big karate tournament. What is it? They're fighting South Korea. I think I'm gonna see, I believe so. The big reveal is that Tommy Lee is fighting the man who killed his brother in the ring. And she was not to kill him to get an extra or not to like be. I think not to kill him. Basically, he's doing the Mortal Kombat stagger and he's opened up for pretty much a free strike that would put him ahead on points and win him the match. But he's totally defenseless. So if he hits a meal, it'll be pretty bad. Yes. It's a victory in the end. Like they all, they give them their medals or some reason. It's a moral victory. It's a moral victory. Here, you really deserve this even though you lost. It's taking the high ground and basically choosing not to murder a man if it means winning that winning isn't everything.
And that we shouldn't, you know, this is important to set up. The killing is for all brothers. Brothers, karate. Revenge and killing is these are bad things. They're all my ideals to pursue. Best of the best two positive. What if it wasn't bad? What if it was good? What if revenge was awesome and great? Yeah. It's all the same. The first movie is like a drama with karate and like a martial arts drama. This is just an 80s action movie. Yeah. This is how it's the Rambu first blood part 2. Yes. Of best of the best 2s. So we open on an underground fighting coliseum run by Wayne Newton. Yeah. Wayne Newton. Wayne Newton is the villain. It's like a two tiered villain. Wayne Newton is the brains and then Ralph Miller from Gladiator is the brawn as breakfast.
What is named it's brocus. Yeah. So immediately this is insane. Wayne Newton. Wayne Newton. Wayne Newton. Wayne Newton. He should have played himself. For some reason he should have played. He basically is. I love how game he is to be a scumbag in these films like in license to kill. He's incredible. So yeah, we watch. We watch. Go to this like night club in Vegas. He gets out of a car. He goes to this night club. It's all the most 80s dancing night club. And then he goes into the secret room in the back. And there's there's the we get the villain reveal where he says does he say what did I say about guns? Guns are unmanned. Yeah. To one of his henchmen the guards. And then he goes into a secret fighting arena and then goes to a private area in the secret
area. The members only area of the secret area of the secret underground fight club. Yes. And the, it's like the arrested membership. Yes. It's, it's like the Mandalorian arena. Yeah. Like for people who need to picture this, it is a Colosseum arena. It's this brutalist, like, it looks like a parking garage. Yeah. They do steam and fire. Fire? Yeah. Looks like it looks like a stage and pit fighter. I would be in the audience and I'm ashamed to say this about myself of the Colosseum. Mm-hmm. No, I think I heard this on on my sleeve. Yeah. Yeah. The winner. Did I hear correctly? It's like 50k. I missed it. I was saved. It's not enough. It's, it's, it was a criminally low amount. I heard this criminal enterprise imagine that. Yeah. So this, what about me? I don't know if you've noticed Dave, sorry to interrupt you, but one of the henchmen, the bald henchmen is Polly from Dark Man.
Oh, fuck yeah. I mean, yeah, there was a lot of guys. There was a guy, it looks like Simon Pegg. There's a lot of guys. Yeah, that guy. Yeah, that guy. That guy later, he's like, don't touch me. Yeah. A lot of mullets and moustaches. You can, everybody can close their eyes and picture what these guys look like. I miss quoted him. Exactly. Is don't you ever touch me? Incredible. Here goes. So good. And so I have too many notes. I have so many notes. I know. I'm just starting from the top. Yeah, just go. I said, holy shit, Wayne Newton is here. Wayne Newton runs another grand boxing ring. Okay. We're caught up. There's these full-down cage doors. We're feeling crisp. And I was like, he's going to die. Like Chris Bend is, I'm like, that was my first note about him is he's a dead man. He's going to die. Yeah, he shouldn't. He was beer. He barely had any business being in like the, the strip mall points tournament in the
last film. This like underground death match, he should be anywhere near. It was great because this is perfect for his character. I was like, of course, this is the end. And he wins this fight to his credit. I was surprised he even had lines. I was like, wow, okay. So he's like, he's a substantial role. Yeah. I thought he was going to die the first scene. We get 20 minutes out of him. Yeah. He gets several scenes with the kid. They form a bond that they simply did not have in the last film. Yeah. Chris Bend is racist for most of the last film. I know. Now he's just there by the end. That's fine. It's fine. But like, sorry. I didn't watch this movie. This is where I walk in and I have to tell Hana about the movie. Should have dragged them into the room with you. I know. Hana was there for the first one. No, no, no. You need to watch this. Yeah. And I was like, okay. So Chris Penn's there. And Hana was like, is he racist still? I don't know. It may still be within his heart and mind.
I don't know. It doesn't come out of his face in this film. Sorry. But they go from Chris Penn fighting this underground arena. And we get Eric Roberts and Tommy Lee glamping together and watching their kid do karate. This is important because it doesn't actually matter. It's that between Chris Penn talking to Wayne Newton and he challenges Brackis and he's like, I'm going to take on Brackis. It was like, okay, now you're going to die. Yeah. This is, it's a real, it's a real reacher scene because Brackis, if Ralph Vuller is just to, he's the German dude from Gladiator. He's a gigantic fucking German guy. He's terrifying. And Chris Penn is Chris Penn. And he doesn't even have Chris Penn's size yet at this point. He's just, he's a, so Chris Penn's a talk. Anyway, it's like Art Lee in fighting Gore. Like never has it been more clear that you are calling out your own demise.
Like it's a rabbit walking up to a bow of constructor and going, you don't look so tough. Yeah. It's like, oh, Chris Penn, what are you doing, man? Come outside, Jack Reacher. He's just going to eat you. No Chris Penn. We have Karate match where Chris Penn is the coach. He's the son's coach. He's like, I'll coach, I think. And Tommy and Eric Roberts are the judge. You know, I was like, that's a conflict of interest because their son is trying out and he can't break a concrete block. He washes out of us, of this tri-out that his dad's the judge of. It's their school. They've opened the school. We get that in a little title card at the beginning. Okay. None of this is going to matter. Not really. It's art does not matter. Not really. They're just trying to, all this is for is to establish that the kid will be sad when
Chris Penn gets beat to death by brackets. Yes. Meg Foster's there. She is. I couldn't remember. I have that written down in my notes. Holy shit. It was Meg Foster in the last one. He mentions in a toast that the kid's mother passed away. Was that in the first one or are they just killing her between films? They're killing her in between films. That's so funny because they literally have them like in a toast like, so ever since his mom died and that's it. At least I'm fairly, I don't, sorry, best heads. I don't want to, my besties out there, but I'm pretty sure the mom was in the last, they were estranged, but I'm pretty sure the mom was in the last one. Right. I don't know why they dealt with any of this because Meg Foster is barely in the movie and also doesn't matter. She doesn't do anything. She has like three scenes. Not really. No, she really doesn't do anything. She's not even really as a functional love interest. She's not in the movie enough. Mark Roberts just shames her for not investigating the under the, yeah, yeah, for not covering
his friend's murder. Like his friend got murdered at a CD underground fight club that nobody made him join. Right. And they found his friend's body and like this, it, it, it, the basin at the bottom of the Hoover Dam. And he's like, I need you to report this on the 19 news. And she's like, I'm a sports reporter. We don't just sit, we, we get, we get the news to report. And he's like, disgusted with her. And it was like Eric Roberts, you know who you're not going to about this? The police. The police, man. Yeah, they even say at one point they say like we should go to the cops and he's like, and say what? Our friend is missing. And it's like, yes. I have that in mind. That's what you do. We should go to the police and tell them what we can't find our friend. Yes, Eric. That's what you tell them. He's missing. That's what happens. It gets to a point where it is wildly irresponsible that they don't go to the cops. There's a point where the cops are investigating. They must be. Yeah. And they're not going to the cops.
They have no reason not to. They are. Okay. I want to talk about the speech that Eric Roberts gives at dinner about how proud he is of his son for disappointing him. Yes. That's that like that was I could just talk about that. That could be the whole show. Yeah. It's really this kid has a bad start to this. The concrete block and then like this dinner to celebrate. The worst possible toast your father could give after you failed. He was like, today, earlier today, all I wanted was for you to get you a belt. So I could think about you getting your belt. That's what would make you become a man. Well, seeing the way you handled that disappointment, I knew that you'd finally become a man. And I couldn't be more proud. It's like after fucking blowing your belt test, this is the last speech you want your dad to give stand up a little, clink his glass in the middle of the Olive Garden and make this speech. Yeah. Oh, correction. It was a casino Mexican restaurant.
I noted that. Even better. Yeah. Even better. Yeah. Do not do this. It was a, yeah, it's a humiliation. Listen, this kid gets a rad scene later. So he makes up for it. He gets several rad scenes. He does. I guess that's what they're setting up. Yeah. Watching this, this would be my argument for watching the first one before you watch this one. You need seeing this scene with the full context of my beautiful boy Walter, Walter by son. He was in a coma of the first film really, really drives this one home. He's just like, I love watching you fail to get your belt, son. My beautiful Walter. He's such a sissy. He can't break these bricks. I love him so. Oh, Eric Roberts of all people given this what a nightmare. The kid is all fucking confidence after this. They're not singing out playing Tetris. And he's like, I called the babysitter. I canceled. And it was like number one bad babysitter.
If the child you're supposed to babysit calls you and cancels, what you say is put your dad on your own. Yeah, put your folks on. And he's like, I don't need a babysitter. I can fight intruders. And it's like kid, you fail to test. Yeah. Yeah. So he, I know your dad told you it was the same as passing, but it's not. Yeah, it's not. It really is. It's too far for a super block kid. You couldn't test your might. A burglar's just going to murder you with a knife. Yeah. But it's all setting stuff up. So he goes with Chris Penn to go bowling. So he thinks Chris Ken, world's worst guardian of a child goes, no, no, no, no, no. We're going somewhere else. I'm taking you to an underground death match fighting tournament in a casino run by
skeezy guys to come watch me get murdered. Not even well at first. No, it wasn't even come watch me at first. He was like, I'm going to leave you in the car at this car. You will wait in the car, but don't worry. He says, I shouldn't, this shouldn't take me longer than a couple hours. Yeah. Holy shit. You're going to leave this kid in the car of a parking lot Vegas, the deathmatch parking lot. Perfect. Who do you suppose is leaving flyers in the deathmatch parking lot? Yeah. I saw myself in Chris Penn because I was like, this is the kind of uncle I want to be. It was wrong to buck energy. Yeah. All I could think is, well, he's going to die. So how is this kid going to get a ride home? I couldn't help but to keep thinking about like, this kid is going to need a ride home soon. He super does. And they address that. They do. They do address that instantly. The kid sneaks in and gets high above the arena with like this skeezy stagehand.
Like really, it felt like a life. It doesn't sneak in. Oh, yeah. They just let him. Yeah. Chris Penn, basically he convinces Chris Penn to let him watch. So he's going to leave him upstairs with this skeezy guy up in the rigging because there's no, he couldn't get him inside the arena proper because I guess Wayne does have some rules. I got like last action hero vibe. Oh, yeah. I want him to befriend the stagehand, this magical stagehand or something. Yeah. And going to adventure. They go on a whole separate adventure. It's all to say that like Wayne Newton, a lot of these bouncers, they know what's going to happen or they know what probably is going to happen. It's all to say that they should go like no, there's no fucking way a kid comes in here. Right? Like, you know what you're bringing this kid to go watch, right? You know that if you don't leave, neither does the kid. Right. Like, that's the whole thing. Like, they're like, wow, he's like deathmatch. No rules.
And it gets like, wow, no rules. It's like, think about it. Think about it. Think about it. Please give that 60 seconds of thought. You are at the mercy of not whatever rules you choose to break, whatever rules the maniac you're fighting will choose to break. Yeah. You don't know who you're going to fight. And this is an underground deathmatch. It's the most come back, Uncle. It's basically going, hey kid, come watch me play Russian roulette. Yes. You could be fighting a guy with a mouth full of razors. Yeah. You don't know what you're going to take. You're going to draw. I like this later. They say the one rule is there's no rules. And I was like, bring a gun. Bring a gun then. Fuck it. Yeah. One of the shadow box and crap. I'm bringing a baseball bat. Yeah. There's no reason you can't. Yeah. There's no rules. No rules. The audience heckles the shit out of Chris Penn. They hate him. Uh, wait. They really bought a shaman too. They're like. Yeah. And like I mentioned, he's not even, he's not even like bulked up Chris Penn.
He's just, you know, no, he's just Chris Penn. He's just like little guy. Fairly, fairly normal sized Chris Penn. Right. He's not in the movie much. He didn't bulk up for this. No, no, no. But I mean, like later in his career, he gained considerable weight. He was a heavy said actor. But um, like this is not at this period. Like in reservoir dogs, he's much, much heavier. Like this is a, yeah. He's a PIP squeak. Yeah. Comparatively. I think it's that they're like ripping on him for being fat. And it's like, dude, he's not really funny. Anyway, I agree. He has no business in an underground fighter arena, but it's not by the shame, the man. Practice begins to murder him. Like beat the crap out of him immediately. He has no chance at any point. Does he had, he never melted one minute of offense. Sorry. It's amazing because it's perfect. It's like, it's exactly what you expect to happen. I thought he might get a little bit, because like even Artlene kicks Gora. Or once, I mean, it's got that energy of Apollo Creed doing that song and dance, get beaten
to death. Oh, yeah. Like it's that vibe where Chris Penn was talking up such a big game. He's dressed like an asshole. He's dressed like a street fighter. He's dressed like Ken Masters. Yeah. Yeah. The kid just looks embarrassed at first. Like the kid is like, ah, no, because he's just asked kicked it first. Right. And the kid is very used to seeing like mentors and older adults in his life get in being. Yeah. And then he's still not clicking with him that this is not this. There's a rules. So he's still not clicking. I don't know why it's not clicking. There's a man. You are. Look where you are. Wayne Noons on a throne. He's wearing most of a white sofa. Yeah. It makes me think that they've gone to a lot of scheezy underground things. Mm-hmm. You probably have to, I mean, look at Eric Roberts has. He probably went through a period from when this kid was like seven to 12 when Eric Robberts' income was barfights.
Yeah. God, yeah. Just going. Yeah. Cruising around the barfights circuit and Ontario. Pick it up 200 bucks here and there. What are we, are we like 15 minutes of this movie? Maybe. We're not 20 minutes yet. Oh, God. Because I think Chris Penn is dead at 20 minutes. I checked. I was like, this is efficient. Yes. Near the end, I started noting the structure because I was blinded to even thinking about the story of movies. The story of movies. Yeah. It's a brisk 90 minutes. Sorry. It is. We're making it seem like it's, we're going to make it seem like this movie is 18 hours long because that's the movie we want. Yes. This should have been a mini series. You're right. I guess the good news is you can just watch it as many times as you want to within how that block of time, like the mini series block of. You can watch it on a litle. Eight hours. Just watch it. However many times you can in eight hours. It's like a mini series. Watch it. Spend up so you can get more showings in. Yeah. You know, you can spend up.
The kids like you got to stop the fight. The stage hand goes, take an easy kid. It's all part of the show. He's right. It is all part of the show in the sense that the show is to kill him. They do this really creepy thing is that Chris Penn is staggering. He closed the curtains on the general audience and the very rich audience stands up and he's like, all right, folks, does he live or die and like the Coliseum, all the privileged people vote on Chris Penn's. They don't like him. They vote him to die and Brackis breaks his neck while the kid watches. It's really cool. It's really rare. Then the kid has to escape. We cut, it's a hard cut. We cut from the kid witnessing Chris Penn's murder to him fleeing the club. Yes. I wrote down what's going to happen now, kid. Then it was hard cut to him running.
I was like, oh, I see. My notes are chasing after him. They're going to kill him. Yes, they are. Did you notice who was chasing him? No. I wrote in my notes, fleeing the club being chased by what appears to be Kane Hodder. Sure enough. It's Kane Hodder. I think he was. He was the first one too. He might be. We see him again later when they return to this place. He gets kicked or something. Somebody takes it. They were going to kill him because we learned later that they see. Yes, he was a witness. They have like you said, like you said up top, like if he doesn't leave, neither can the kids. Yes. And they know that and they try to kill him. He gets away. He stage Chris Penn's death and fake a drowning in the Hoover Dam. Who would have been there? Yeah. He crashes his car. That kid would have been there next to him in that car. Yeah, they caught him. Yep. Floats sticks to a cowboy hat. Yeah.
That's the end of Walter. That's the end of my beautiful sweet boy, Walter. It's fucking dark. It is. Instead, we get a kid having like a fan-releasing moment. It really took this kid into something terrible, sorry. I know. No, they get this fear and loathing freak out on the streets of Vegas where the lens warps and the kids like traumatize and he's like, oh, oh, oh. That's right. He runs into a classic Vegas pedophile. He runs into a pedophile, like instantly, immediately. Yeah. Like a shark. This pedophile emerges. What's a man a kid need to ride somewhere? This is one of my favorite, like 80s 90s trope, which is a little kid in a place that he shouldn't be and all the adults, a leader in bully the kid. Like what's a man? He needs your mommy where it's like, like whenever there's like a kid at like a trucker bar or something in a movie, they all like heckle the kid for being a kid lost. That is weird.
But his kids fucked. I thought he was fucked like mentally after this. I didn't. He were very fast. Oh, yeah. It's like when they montage through his coma in the previous film, like his dad bounces back with it. I'm sorry, coach. I need like an afternoon to go 10 to my comatoes. Son. Yeah. It's a family that it's a family that bounces back really quickly. Really? Hard cut to Eric Roberts slow dancing. Yeah. Eric Roberts and Tommy are having a sad or a G at home is what I wrote. Yes. That is what that is, right? That's all that could be. Yeah. Tommy's on the couch with a girl with a woman. Eric's dancing with a woman. It's real. It's a real weird energy in the room. They don't yet know about Chris Penn's death. I'm going to call him Chris Pine again before the end of the episode. Of course. It would have been cool if it was Chris Pine. It's the fact that they needed a babysitter to do this says to me, yes, they are going to fuck. Yeah.
Like to go have a date and someone's living room. Yeah. Yeah. This is a key party. Yeah. Uh, this is the, it's the invite. It's the exact same situation as the invite. Me too. I'm in there too. All right. This is where they, they hand wave calling the cops go to the fighting arena. And they, the, the, the fighting arena way Newton is just like, hey, your buddy left here. He was really drunk. He had some flusies. That's when they find his body in the river and they show back up. And this is where it's like, call the cops definitely. Well, and this is where we learn another thing about underground, no rules fighting is Eric Roberts. When they return after they find Chris Penn's body in the river, he's like, bullshit. My son saw it. My beautiful son Walter. Yeah. He saw it. He saw you murder him. And then wait. It's like, listen, buddy.
We have 20 witnesses who say Chris Penn walked out of here. Now you, you see the folly and walking into a fucking underground thing. Right. Dude, don't bring it into this, Chris Penn. He running, he goes into the underground deathmatch. And he's like, my son, Walter witnessed the whole thing. His name is Walter. Here's a picture of him. He witnessed the whole thing. You're right. He's a real loose end. My son. Look very next seen is Walter gets chased by people in the car. They need to be very next seen, but it happens shortly. Sorry. He keeps endangering family in this. They love endangering family for this movie. This is eyes wide shut shit. Like these are like billionaires betting high, this is high stakes gambling on what is essentially human trafficking. Like you can't, you can't walk in and be like, this is bullshit. Unless you are prepared to throw some dope spin kicks, which they are, which they are.
And this is a big note is that they kick the crap out of everybody right here. Yeah. Even Brackets. Even Brackets gets the fucking shit beat out of him. He gets the kick everyone's ass. Right. Which I was after this, I was like, what is the problem? Like they, they, they start like training later. And I was like, for what? You're fine. You, you kick their asses. So they get kicked out. They go to the funeral with eye patch, brother killer. There's a fascinating help collection of people at this funeral. There's one wing of it looked like it was reserved for carnies. Yeah. Just like people from the free town. Yeah. And the ex files. It's Chris Penn. It makes sense. True. Yeah. You've seen the way he lives. Another section just for cowboy hats. Yeah. Lot of cowboy hats. And yeah, we have brother killer. So the one I'd guy who killed Tommy's brother in a fight pledged his service to them. He's like, let me repay you for killing your brother.
Let me help you track down Brackets. I will, I will kill Brackets for you. This is how I can repay the debt that I owe you for killing your brother. Like I did. And Tommy says, no, no, I can't ask you to do that. And I'm like, yes, you can. You can't ask the guy who killed your brother to repay the debt by getting you back in a fight for your murdered friend. Like this is the exact situation in which you ask for help from the guy who killed your brother. Like this is what he's for. Yeah. Like he's happy that this such like he's like, oh boy, I get to I get to work off this terrible deed that I did. Like like he's excited to do this. Let him help you. And spoiler see does let him later. Yeah, he does let him later. Well Eric Roberts says, but this this is the thing is the movie kind of tap dances in terms of characters. Yeah, because again, they just won against them. All they have to do is go from this funeral to the underground arena and kill everyone. And kill everybody else. They can just kick everyone to death. And let's somebody bring Susie's and then they might have trouble.
Right. Or call the cops, but they have to tap dance for a lot of this movie. I don't mind because the movie chooses a hell of a way to tap dance. So it's great. He goes air. Robert's yells at his girlfriend for not investigating the murder. Yep. He yells at Meg Foster. The kid is just going to school. He's he has not occurred to anyone. The level of shit they've stepped in. Yeah. Like this is where they kind of month. You're fucking with the level of money where they will send people to your house to kill you. Yeah. And this is where they chase him. If they try to run him down car first, they try to run down this kid. And yes, they have guns. And then they chase him into an airport. I love this scene because there. He's like having an ET just peddling his bike. Yeah. With his little hair. And then the car shows up and chases him and he runs inside to to Eric Roberts and Tommy.
So you think, oh, shit man, he's safe. And then nope, that's been immediately started. He keeps going. Blast in the house part and they have to die fine furniture and shit. Well, they don't even do that. So I love I love this to the pacing because they were like, you think that's it? No, but he goes into the airport, right? And these scumbags keep pulled over by the cops. Oh, that's right. And the kid rides away. That's right. So you think it's definitely over also how what a low point to be pulled over in an airport for trying to run over a child with his bike. And again, the cops are involved. The cops. They're about to leave a huge trail for the cops. And then the kid runs in and like you, I was I relaxed. I was like, okay, so that was the big action scene. Got it. And then yeah, they just start lighting up the fucking house. I have for a champion karate fighter, Eric Roberts is struggling with this henchman a bit. I have that written down because Tommy's just fucking dudes up in this scene. Right. Like he breaks that one.
Dude's arm disgustingly like in a heinous way. Like he accordion breaks it. This is where the violence really sits in. They push aside all the lessons from the previous. They sure do. I wrote down that none of these henchmen could decide on what gun to buy. There's an oozy. There's a machine gun. There's a snub nose revolver like a really fit. And I was like, guys, pick a gun. They're also going on. They're also each wearing like different windbreakers. They each have a different version like a different palette swap of Darryl. Oh, is it Oat? Is Oat's name Darryl? Anyway, it's Oat's from Hollin's. Like they can't, they're, they each have sort of a perm and mustache going on. Yeah. Like they're all from a different movie. Yeah. And then yeah, Tommy just grabs this one dude's arm and just crushes it like an aluminum can. It's fucking gnarly. It's crazy. All of the lessons from the first film about like violence is not the answer.
Yes, it is. Yeah. When it's in their defense, in their defense, their lives are at stake. These guys can't be their house with guns to shoot, to shoot their beautiful sweet boy Walter. You deserve to get your arm crushed like a Budweiser can. Right. The filmmakers, they read the room of the first one. They're like, you know, it'd be cooler if they had to deal with like machine guns. They're like, you know, we would be like ninja this up a bit. You know, like ninja it up. Yeah. So then they hit the road. They're like, I know they've been visiting our house, our kids. Let's go visit grandma. Yeah. Also, I don't know. This is neither here nor there. I just have this in my notes. They filmed this in Bakersfield or something. Oh, this has Bakersfield energy. This has Bakersfield energy. Sorry. No, they, so they visit grandma, Tommy's grandma, Native American grandma. They make a joke of it where he's like, don't worry about it or something. And I'm like, yeah, I'm not, I'm not worried about it. You know why? Because this gives us a chance. I think to meet James.
It does. It does. I think they just wanted us to know that they weren't trying to tell us that all non-white people are the same. Yeah. They were like, listen, we know we know that this Korean man and this Native American woman are not the same. And again, just go with us because we need to meet James. Tommy's uncle brother friend. What is their relation? Uncle. Uncle. Uncle. Uncle. Great uncle, I guess, because he's his grandma's brother. Right. She's been fucking. Yeah. Because he's not, I don't know. She's, what, in his 20s in this? Sunny land them. It's sunny land them. Yeah. Oh, he looked in this. Oh, man. No, he's like, he's like 40s in this. This is after predators. So she's still fucking late. She's still fucking. Yeah. Good for her. It's fine. Yeah. There may be, I don't know, maybe 10, 15 years apart, maybe. She's clear the older sister, but not by that much.
I don't know. Grandma looked old. It doesn't matter. Anyway. It's fucking, it's Billy. It's Billy from Predator. It's Sunny Land them. Real life. Sunny land them. Sunny land them. Yes. And movie medium. First meet him sleeping on a smashed car. And I was like, did he fall on it from the sky? Is that why it's like that? Did he attack it for sustenance? Did he fuck it to death? All of these are possibilities. Yeah. He wakes up. Swigs whiskey and vomits in his own mouth. Yeah. Like disgusting. He's doing. Like, he really masters the nasty vomit in this movie. He does it more than once. It's gross. It's gross. Sorry. He looks and sounds like Michael Madsen and Kill Bill. Like he's got, he's doing an accent or something. He screams at them. He says, I'll rip your fucking ears right off your goddamn head. And he starts fighting them immediately, fighting and vomiting.
Yeah. He makes the fight of. This is by the tribe. The cactus skeleton or whatever. And it's just vomiting. It's amazing because the movie is like, we need to introduce this character, but it has to be awesome. So what if they're vomit fighting? He's like, he beats Eric Roberts down to the ground. Oh, yeah. He's just. He's just, that's great. Right. He's a terrifying mess. Grandma watches and smiles proudly. Oh, that's my James. Yep. We get a garage cleaning training montage with chains. So this is where they're like, we have to work out to fight this man that we already beat up once. Yeah. We get the bad guy also training, right? Yeah. He's just beating dudes up at Wayne Newton's cliff side of the state. It's pretty rad. Again, they could just call the cops.
He owns the caps. Grandma tells James that he's a disgrace to his people. And he has to help Tommy go kill him and or he has pack his bags. So grandma's just like all in, right or die. Yeah. She really cared about Chris Penn. Yeah. We learn that we learn that James fought. Brackess. Right. He says, I can train you to beat him and he shows him like scars and he's like, that's from Brackess. I think so. I believe that's right. They fight with sticks. We get more training montages. We get a sweat lodge. A sweat lodge scene where they have visions of explosions and fighting. This is where he's telling you. This where he tells them the white men call them hallucinations. Yeah. They just see a bunch of bombs and stuff.
Yeah. You ever do a sweat lodge? I didn't sweat lodge. No, no, I've never done one. It's just a spa. You're just in a spa. That's the more or less. It's delightful. But yeah, it's just, yeah, fire and like clips from the first movie I want to say. Yeah. More montages. They stand on a big rock. I think that's it. I think they have like a vision of Chris Penn's death thrown in there. Tommy definitely sees his brother's death, I think, from the first movie. Like you said, anyway, it's not important. Yeah. It's just for this part, it's like 10 minutes of montage. It's training montage. It's cleaning every training trope, martial arts training trope. You can think of crammed into this montage. Again, not sure why they need to train again, because they've already beaten everybody at Wayne Newton's club. Yeah. I guess this will help them get around the guns. I guess it does not help sunny land him get around the guns.
No spoilers. They wake up to, so this whole time, Brack is, it was like, I want to fight Tommy Lee, because he gave me the scar. That's his whole thing. So he's like, go get them. Basically, they wake up to Andy Garcia and the intouchables and Simon Pegg holding guns to them. Yeah, they're getting Ken F. They're going to destroy him. Right. Excuse me, is that the guy henchman wielding machine guns from the future? Like one of them straight up, there's this chrome gun that looks like a laser. Yeah, yes. They helicopter in. They're mistake you're right, they're just buying their own guns. I don't know. This one look kind of neat. Hey man, Ted's got a silver gun. Silver gun. Silver gun, at this point it occurred to me that everybody wants the same thing, meaning that Brack is in Tommy Lee, both want to fight each other. fight each other. Yeah, so just let it happen. Exactly. Like the villains come in there like, ha, we're going to make you fight brackets. And he's like, yeah, that's what I want. Cool. That's what I want. Yeah. But instead they have a fucking shootout. Uh,
sunny gets annihilated, but not before killing a guy. Yeah, he stabs the guy. the they blow off his fingers. I want to say they do. They blast half of his hand apart. He gets shot so many times they put him down like a bear. Like it's like a rampaging bear. Yeah, yeah. He manages to after they tear him with bullets, he manages to stab a man in the gut. Leave across the hood of a car. Yes. I'm so glad he's in this movie, even though it's for 20 minutes at tops. And he dies because they have to walk right up to him and shoot him in the head twice with a revolver. Yes. As sure he's already been shot like no shit 15 times. It's fucking incredible. It's like a bear. Yeah, it's probably the reason he agreed to be in this. Yeah, is that you got to shoot me a lot. Yeah, then they burn the kidnap Tommy and they blow
up the house. Yeah, it explodes like the whole property. They do a they do an aerial shot of the explosion. It's so big that they have to shoot it from a helicopter. And this is where this is where the one. Yeah, the one big guy, um, he goes and pokes the other henchmen. And this is where he says don't you ever touch me. And then he tosses a cigarette under the fuel line and it ignites the thing and the explosion catches him. And they're like, yeah, they make some joke about smoke and it'll kill you or something and then they fly. Yeah, they don't care about their own people. No, the kid also saves aircroppers in the rest by smacking a guy's gun, I believe, or distracting guy aircroppers grabs the gun almost executes the henchmen. Thinks better of it. And then fires dummy shots to make it sound like they've all been executed for the villains. Yes, before they blow up the house. Correct. Yeah, there's still like 30 minutes left of this movie at this point.
I can't stress how different this is at this point than the first one, right? Yeah. They blow a fucking house. What a film. Grandma. They blow up grandma's house. Yes, the film could have ended here. I was like, I don't need that you've done enough and you're going to give us so much more. Yeah, they got to go fight in the underground layer. Yeah. Tommy Lee is kidnapped. They send them they send them to the tournament and they they weigh new and it's like you have to work your way up to Bracus in the tournament. I was like, I thought there were no rules. Like just fight. Well, he wants to like he wants to weaken him up a bunch and then make him fight Bracus to guarantee that Bracus will win. I guess so. But I would need this curtain champion on top still, man. That's true. And I always really get some cool new fights. Yeah, we can annihilate the first guy. Yeah. Yeah. Same with the second guy. A lot of sickening bone breaks in
this. There really is. He flies at the second guy and annihilates him. And then there's Nunchucks. Yeah, this guy with Nunchucks. Yeah. Yeah. That guy's pretty sweet. That goes on for a while. He uses his hair to whip him. Yeah. That was a tough fight. That guy would have probably given Bracus a run for his money. Yeah. Tommy Lee kicks him so hard he has a back flip and then he snaps his arm. And again, really grotesquely. Why not bring us soared? This guy brought Nunchucks. Yes. Bracus sword. Again, again, again, or a sword. The audience now loves Tommy Lee, which is important. This is that's the point of this part is like this is the thing. Wayne Newton knows that it doesn't matter who wins because he wins, right? That's the point. Yeah. Yeah. He just wants his guys to fight. He wants a good show. Yeah. Aircropper does finally the thing he should have done a long time ago and drops his kid off with his girlfriend and goes, maybe you
should have the kid. And she apologizes to him. I know it's wild. Yeah. For not for not defying her boss. Yeah. For not reporting. And for the skeezy friends skeezy murder during the wild world of sports. Again, they could call the cops, but they don't. Now we get a training montage. And this is why because they start training right before the fight. And I was like, do people normally do this? Like, save your energy. You're about to fight. What more? This isn't like cramming before a test, right? You do a warm up by assume, but not like hardcore training. Brack is just having people hit him with logs. And I'm like, dude, no, you want to be fresh, man. Yeah. Like they're doing really intense training. It's like you guys are going to be exhausted before you get in the ring. We meet the crowd. Vegas cowboy disco party. Tell you, Tommy shows up surrounded by
arm guards like he's a philosopher. There's like 20 guys. Yeah. Listen, they beat up. They've I think he single handedly beat up like four or five of them the last time they were here. So they need they need to be surrounded at all times in this building. It's understandable. I wrote down Brack is says to Tommy Lee, I have waited a long time for this Tommy Lee. And I wrote, have you? How many days has it been? All right. It's been like maybe a week, a wild fucking week. Maybe. But Brack is he I'm surprised Brack is even knows his name. Like it's they're not so aren't enemies. Like when you're at when you're in the middle of watching a show as it airs like that seven day wait for the next episode does feel internally long. That's true. So he's just been he's just been waiting to punch this dude ever since Tommy Lee game a little scar on his face. Yeah. Four days ago. Eric Robert stabs the door man's hand. Yep, it's Kane Hodder. He
stakes him to the door. Okay. Real real Eric Roberts move. I feel like that's it feels very Eric Roberts. That feels like a move in his repertoire. Yeah. He just goes into the club, meets his dudes, I patch and they just start kicking the crap out of it. They start fucking people rinsing dudes. It's great. It's amazing. The kick a guy off a balcony into a table. Yeah. Boy, it's awesome. Yeah, we get that intercut with Tommy Lee fighting Brackis. With staffs at one point to make it sparks thoroughly kicking his ass. But yeah, they're sparking like special he man toys. It's rad. It's rad. Meanwhile, Eric Roberts is wasting just like security guys like mullets. There's he's he's punches a guy's bald head through a window. Nobody he's fighting is equipped to fight him. That's just a very dark man. Oh, okay. His bald head goes right through that window. This is where the arena is like fire and speed. Yeah, it's rad. Boy,
this movie is awesome. Eric Roberts runs into my favorite henchman. A skinny, a single skinny guy alone. And he says the bookstubs here. And I was like, does it? Yeah, he just beat. I don't know. 30 guys. Are you the this is right hand guy, right? This is that don't ever touch me, you guys. Yes. Yeah. They don't even show it. He just gets hurled into the arena by air. A glass door window. Yeah. A ghost could have done that. Yes. And then so we find out what Eric Roberts is here to do. What he has beaten a horde of men to do, which is to get on the sidelines of the arena match and watch. He is just there to watch. I assume he was just they were there to take out the guards, right? So they can't ever interfere. Oh, you're right. That's true. It's just such a funny thing for him. It's bad ass. Don't get me wrong. He beat up all these
guys to stop and go like, okay, right, right, right. Get him. Tommy Lee sits down. You got this popcorn. Yeah. Yeah. Me and the guy who killed your brother, rooting for you up here. Yeah. Tommy Lee. You're right. It though. It does. It really does emphasize that they could have done this at any point. Just marched back here. All right. There was nothing stopping them. I don't know why because this is a way new and he goes from happy to sad to happy. Like when he starts beating brackets, when he's like, oh, and I'm like, aren't you happy? Like isn't this you winning? Well, yeah, because he does attempt to buy Tommy at the end of it. He's like, hey, you can stay on be the champion. It's a lot of money. You're not going to wait for him. So I think you're right. He's just like, oh, fuck my guy is losing that sucks. And then he's happy again. He's like, oh, new opportunity. Maybe I can just buy this guy. It'll be a new champion, new excitement, new blood, which means that the moral of the movie should have been that they refuse to fight in the tournament. Correct. Much like the ending of the first one, they should
have been like, I'm not participating because also they show people betting against, betting against Tommy. And so way Newton is making a lot of money right now because practice is losing. Yeah. Like the whole thing is that the house is cleaning up on this fight. I don't know why he's pissed. Exactly. Like the ending should be them going like, we're not fighting brackets. Like we're not playing this game. I don't know what he's the ending certainly shouldn't have been at least thematically. He certainly shouldn't kill brackets. While Eric Roberts cheers him on, which is how it ends, which is how it ends. Tommy, Tommy Lee heroically breaks brackets his neck while he's defenseless while Eric Roberts heroically watches. Yeah. He doesn't get like he gets him up in like the crucifix and like breaks his neck and back. I genuinely thought this was like a Darth Vader turn. I was like, Oh, it's Tommy Lee can be the villain in the freaking place like a snarl like
a dragon when he does right. And I thought like is Eric Roberts going to be like, no, but no, Eric Roberts is like, I'm fine with this. This is cool. He deserved it. He killed Chris Penn. Yeah. According to the rules of the death match tournament of which Chris Penn was aware. I'm not saying I'm not trying to victim blame Chris Penn. But also the victim. Yeah. You knew this was a death match and you lost that death match. Yeah. And then Tommy Lee just participates in the death match. The crazy thing about this movie is that in the end, they don't have any moral problems with the death match. Right. They're just giving the bloodthirsty crowd what it wanted. Yes. That's what's like. How is it any different from breakfast, kill and Chris Penn? It's like if the Hunger Games movies never address the Hunger Games. Yeah. It's that it's like if there are like, well, the Hunger Games are great. We're just trying to win. Like that's what's happening in this. Like it's a rich
person arena. And Tommy Lee is just like, yeah, this is this is fine. Like I'm going to kill him. Like he killed my friend. Revenge is good. Actually, the blood sport is fine. Yeah, that's fine. And then they revenge is fine. What it's for me. Right. Sorry. How they do punch when you're new. And it's great. They say the Coliseum is closed. And it's like, no, it's not. You didn't do anything. Wayne Newton says you'll be back. They say don't bet on it. A weird way to the movie with the weird. Yeah. A power ballot titled the best of the best. Yes. About no one can hold you down the fire in your eyes. Like, oh, yeah, we did it. It didn't shut him down, Dave. They do not shut him down. He's still feeding fighters to this machine. Yes. I legitimately I seriously thought that they were setting up a dark, you know, the way the
fucking empire happens. Like a dark second movie to set up the third one of like, oh my god, Tommy Lee, he's lost his he's morally bankrupt. Yeah, his fucking his dear friend, the guy who killed his brother is going to have to talk him back to the side of justice. Yes. That was the whole fucking deal with the best movie. Yeah. And he just kills brackets and everybody goes, yay. All the rich people in the front who bet on him killing brackets are like, you just made that guy a billion dollars. He's going to take that money, that billion dollars, you just made him and he used it to traffic more people. Yeah. There's like four Epstein's in the audience, you know, at least that's a conservative guess. And they're like, yeah, we are your little fighter puppets. End of movie. I mean, I'd start there. It's 90% Epstein's. Yeah. Yeah. In this audience, yeah, there was an instant pedophile when that child wandered out into the street.
Yes. Instant. He was building a truck. He was building a track. It was like he went right to the kid. Like the kid's father could have been near him. Like that pedophile was reckless. It's like a pigeon in New York. I know. Gold pedophile. Jesus. This movie rules. I know. It's so good. What the fuck? I love this movie. How? I just, I can't stress enough that they looked at their first movie and they were like, okay, we had a great time making that. We said what we wanted to say. Let's just give the audience what they want. Yeah. That's ultimately a lot. Let's just, yeah. We said what we wanted to say as clumsily and hilariously as they did it. This time, let's just eat popcorn and have fun. Let's just be big and loud. Like this is like genuinely, it's after they made first blood.
Being like, well, what if we got to see all the cool stuff that Rambo did, though? Yeah. Wouldn't that be cool? They knew. Best of the best three is titled Best of Best Three No Turning Back. And I'm like, this is turning back. This movie was turning back. Murdering a man is from several wealthy witnesses. That's not a no turning back point because you realize they all own you now. Yeah. That movie also has Gina Kershaw and Christopher McDonald, which means that this movie, yes. Yeah. They, they, this movie they clearly got enough people interested with are like, oh, absolutely. We'll give you money for a third. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. This was amazing. I can't wait to watch Best of the Best Two again. Yes. I sat down to this movie because Best of the Best One was fun, but it wasn't fun enough for me. So when I sat down to watch this, I was like, okay, you know, it was a little bit of a
slog. I mean, it was hilarious in a grand old time, but there are slow parts in the first one. Yeah, for sure. I didn't need to, I didn't need to see that again. So I was like, another tournament like who gives a shit. And this movie was like, I see you. I hear you. And I will, we will fix that. What if we just stand on the gas the entire time and never get off? Yes. What if every scene was amazing? Every scene is awesome. Every scene is awesome. Oh my God. This movie. It's so fucking good. What if every scene, even if it's just exposition between characters, what if one of them was drunk and vomiting and trying to fight that trying to hit you with sticks? Yeah. What a great movie. This is a classic. We need some we need somebody to dispense some fatherly wisdom in this scene. How can we spice it up? Well, they could beat the shit out of Eric Roberts before they say it. Yeah. Let's do it. Do it. Perfect. Is he throwing up on himself? Uh huh. That wouldn't even in the script. That was just
sunny. Whoever made this movie should feel deeply proud. I think they do. I hope they do. They should. They really should. Yeah. By the way, there's a best of the best for. I'd be disappointed if they weren't. Yeah. I would honestly, if there's less than seven, I'll be a little sad. Do you want to guess who's in best of the best for? Michael Dutacoff. Yeah. You got the right idea. Um, it is definitely guys that would be the best for Ernie Hudson. Oh, okay. It's a different director. Tobin Bell. Oh, yeah. Bit of a different direction. I guess I should have anticipated it though, because Eric Roberts is not a karateman. Yeah. Um, the plot is when a girl fleeing Russian mobsters plants a stolen computer disk on Tommy Lee, the martial arts expert finds himself unwittingly thrust into the most harrowing adventure ever. So it's hackers this time. Enemy of the state.
Yeah, you're right. It's enemies. We did enemy of the state come out. North by Northwest. 1998. Oh, the same year. Same year is best and the best for. Oh, rad. Okay. Yeah. That's awesome. I'm so happy. I'm excited for us, because I feel like we're probably going to be commanded to watch those. Yeah, I mean, we fucking better. As long as it's available, by the way, this is available on YouTube. Yeah, this was a little tricky to find. Yeah. A little bit tragically. I had a, yeah, yeah. But yeah, should be, let me hold on. Is there a blue rate? You should get every, every household should have a best of the best to and a best of the best to in every pot. Right. This needs to be preserved. This should be in the bill of rights. Yes. Okay. There's a blue ray and DVD of this. Oh, sick. Okay. That's great. That's great news. I wonder if, oh, there's a four movie collection. What's the, yes.
Oh, DVD box set. Best of the best one through four. Oh, Dave. Now we can be the best of the best. Yeah. Consider yourself purchased for movie collection. DVD box set.
