About this episode
Despite missing most of his time with the Cleveland Browns due to suspensions and injuries, Deshaun Watson is poised to secure the starting quarterback spot for the 2026 season. With impressive statistics and a reworked contract, Watson is a strong contender, although rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are also in the running. The Browns, coming off a disappointing 5-12 season, will be closely watching the quarterback battle as they prepare for the upcoming training camp.

On April 29th, Dishon Watson came out of the Cleveland Browns mini-camp, looking like the top pick for starting quarterback next year. Reports say he's got the edge for QB1 spot in 2026, even after missing most time with suspensions and injuries, just 19 games. Since joining the team, he's thrown for 3,365 yards and 19 touchdowns with Cleveland, but his total QBR sits at 33 point. 1. One of the league's lowest, overall in the NFL, the Clemson alum has nearly 18,000 yards and 123 touchdowns since being drafted 12th overall in 2017. The Browns also reworked Watson's deal this month, freeing up about $36 million in cap space after his 80 point 7 million hit. Loomed large, he sat out 2025 rehabbing and Achilles injury from the prior year. Rookie Shadour Sanders and Dylan Gabriel are in the mix too. Sanders threw for 1,400 yards with 7 touchdowns and 10 picks as a starter, going 3 and 4 while earning a pro bowl nod.
Gabriel managed 937 yards and 7 scores before getting benched at 1 and 5. With the team coming off of 5 and 12 season and new coach Todd Monkin taking over from Kevin's to Fanski, all eyes stay on that quarterback battle, heading into training camp.
