Warrior Poet Profiles: The Spartan King Leonidas

About this episode

Warrior Poet Profiles - Episode 2 - The Spartan King Leonidas and Dienekes, a historical look at these warriors from tactics and firearms instructor John Lovell. In 480 B.C, the Persian army under the command of King Xerxes laid siege to Greece at the hot gates of Thermopylae. A small force of 300 Spartans and a few thousand allied Greeks met the vast 2 million man Persian army to fight one of history's greatest battles. These warrior poets fought with brilliant skill and epic sacrifice, fueled by their love for country, and family. We are made stronger by their example. Many have discovered the Spartans through a movie with Gerard Butler called 300. 300 the movie omitted much of the warrior poet ethos and real history I cover in this video, but the movie was still a fun adaptation of the Spartan story.
