Warringah Freeway's new route confuses drivers

0:00After years of roadworks chaos, the Waringa Freeway upgrade is almost finished and a major new route change opened today. It's already causing confusion for some drivers, but the real test is still to come. Day one of the new Waringa Freeway, so how did commuters fare? The $2.2 billion works to upgrade one of Sydney's busiest thoroughfares now one step closer to completion. Today, mostly smooth sailing as the major road rearrange kicked in. So far, so good. But the real test is yet to come. Where everyone comes into the office or goes to work, that'll be the test from about seven in the morning, maybe the treaty rush before that. 1:00Around 300 metres after the Mila Street bridge is left for over the harbour, right for under us. This is now the last point at which commuters can decide between tunnel or bridge around a kilometre away. Once your decision is made, you're locked in. If you miss your lane, you still have to go through with it. Don't leave it to the last moment because that, get out of jail, little route we had before has disappeared. From Ernest Street, only the harbour tunnel is accessible. Drivers wanting the bridge will have to go around Mila Street. I trust that they're doing the right thing. Hopeful today isn't just the calm before a commuter storm. Traffic is still flowing smoothly tonight, but motorists can expect more disruptions from tomorrow morning. With up to 30,000 people set to run the Sydney half marathon, the Carl Expressway over circular key will be closed until around 1230 drivers are urged to plan their trips ahead.
